How to enable camera widget on 4.2 - Nexus 7 General

Simply change the DPI to 210 and voila you got the camera if you swipe to the right from the lockscreen.... you also have to deal with the phone ui then... not something I would do because of that... just making you know....
Very interesting that Google simply lock the functions that are already on the system... why? At least we should have widgets on the right then...
Other annoying thing is that if you change the DPI everything go smaller but you don't get the tablet UK.....

If you mean that you don't get the tablet ui even if you go down to 160 or so, then that might be expected as it seems google is wanting to do away with the so called "tablet UI"...evident since even nexus 10 has phablet ui.

Yep, but then why keep the phone ui in the same as the phablet? and why hide the camera? is not that it isnt installed, is just hiden....

It's possible that they are intentionally not enabling the camera on the Nexus 7 because it doesn't have a rear facing camera. Just a guess but it makes sense. The camera can be integrated into applications that make proper use of the front facing camera (skype, etc...) but it's not real practical to use a front facing camera on a tablet to snap photos of anything other than yourself and Google might not want to imply that it is.

Ok , but why don't they take it off the system instead of hiding it? Seems to me that the software is the same as the n4... gives the impression to me that they are just lazy to not create its own software for the n7...

The camera app is there, but hidden. I noticed this in Evernote when I went to create a picture note it asked if I wanted to use "Camera" or another camera app I have installed. I chose Camera and it opened the new camera app, minus the video/photosphere toggle.

They make the camera app available for programmatic use by third party apps. An app can turn it on and take a photo or video. In other words developers don't have to write their own interfaces to the camera. I am actually a developer and just checked out the API calls that do this. This is exactly what the apps we use to turn it on do.

[Q] Front Facing Camera Upside Down/Inverted

I'm having an issue with my Nexus 6 Front Camera inverting while in certain 3rd party Apps. Works well with the Stock Android Camera App but when I download certain 3rd party apps the picture is upside down. Even while using Google Hangouts video call and other video messaging apps the camera is inverted. It's not limited to just camera apps when I use anything with attach a photo/take a photo the camera is upside down any way of fixing this.

Same here. I use a 3rd party app called Battlecam and it uses front and rear camera's. The rear cam is just fine but the front facing cam is upside down everytime. I have a Nexus 7 with android 5.0 and it works fine on that device. I'm thinking this is nexus 6 strictly.
Anyone else?

I got my Nexus 6 a couple days ago, and have noticed that on Snapchat and Hangouts the front-facing camera shows upside down. On Snapchat, it even utilizes the accelerometer to ensure that no matter the rotation, my face is always hanging down from the sky. Very annoying.
Anyone figure this out? I plan on factory resetting my phone later today and starting from scratch to see if it's a problem incorporating settings from my old phone.

Hey please let us know if performing a factory reset did anything to fix the problem because like you I'm annoyed with having my front camera face upside down. All apps should work properly front camera or not this is disappointing because this is a new device and this should not be happening.

These type of issues usually occur with new devices running the new OS - aka 'initial bugs'
El Goog will get these sorted out (make sure you put in a bug report)

Factory reset fixed the issues I mentioned in my post. I suspect they were caused by importing data/settings from my previous device, which had a different version of the OS.
I'm having this issue, and I didn't import any settings from a previous phone. Is this a software or hardware problem?

Nexus 6 portrait orientation is 270 instead of 90
The developers of these apps assume that the orientation for portrait mode is 90 degrees. From some reason on Nexus 6 it should be 270 degrees. Developers of camera apps should follow the code example at: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.html#setDisplayOrientation(int)
Yup, for the most part - it isn't your phone, its the app in question.

I use an app called Open Camera, and have no issues.
I "fixed" this problem by uninstalling the updates on my Google Camera app. I guess something in one of the updates inverts the pics taken. At least, this was the "solution" on my Nexus 6. I re-installed the latest update to the camera and the problem came back.

HDR+ port by defcomk
Here is something that works for me:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4UT4dU4LpjJZFZnbGJ1TXVJN2c/view?usp=sharing
Make sure CAM2 API is enabled.
If you are on stock ROM it can be done by adding this line to build.prop:
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
If on a custom nougat ROM use this module: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4UT4dU4LpjJRWY1dzBBUTdHbm8
If on Oreo custom ROM, cam2 is enabled by default.
To use the camera it follow these steps:
1) Open the app, change video resolution of back camera to 4K (VERY IMPORTANT, else there will be FC)
2) On the camera menu you'll notice it's not focusing, so switch to video mode by swiping left on the screen.
3) In video mode tap on the subject you are shooting to focus on it. ( May need to be tapped more than once, Zooming in with two swipe finger gesture helps to get perfect focus)
4) After you are happy with the focus switch to photo mode by swiping right, this will maintain the focus that was set in video mode, if not repeat step 3.
5) Do NOT press shutter yet. Lock AE/AF before taking shot by long pressing on the finger to form a circle on the screen. (VERY IMPORTANT, else there will be FC)
6) After you have long pressed, take the photo. A circle will be shown which takes 30 shots in one second.
7) Shutter will be grayed out until the photo is processed which happens in the background, you can check progress by taping the thumbnail.
8) You can take as many shots you like with the present focus lock, also repeat the from step 3 for changing focus.
That's it

WOW!! I thought the Google camera HDR+ was all hype. I had HDR+ on my Nexus 5 but apparently that was the old version not using the new API. I thought that took pretty good pictures but this new one on this phone is incredible. Every single thing I tried, every camera mod I could find, on any ROM other than stock, every picture looked over softened and blurry, or super grainy and still kind of blurry. Now it looks better than stock, impressively so. The color balance, focus, and sharpness is top notch. Amazing what a change in software can do to a piece of hardware.
A quick tip for people, the camera opens up with the focus set at infinite so if you take a picture of something 5ft+ away, there's no need to swipe to the video to focus. Just open the camera, long press to hold focus, and snap the picture. The camera also works in 16:9 if that's your thing.
Edit: open camera is finicky for videos, giving me reboots. Use Footej camera for quick non HD photos and videos.
Edit2: After messing around with it a bit more, it's not the just HDR+ that makes the pictures so much better, it's the new camera API. Install and use it with any camera app supporting camera2 API and the photos are much better all around.
Thanks a ton for posting this, both you, and OP.

wide-angle camera switch

Hey,
feeling pretty dumb right now but how the hell am I supposed to switch between the two cameras on the back?
I can switch between front and back camera but how do I switch between wide-angle and normal angle?
?
When you open the camera app, you should see a little "1,0x". Press ist and the camera will change.
Nope, I tried by blocking one camera with a paper and if I press the button it still displays. It seems that will just software zoom.
I managed to find out that only Bokeh mode uses the lower camera.
Tried it in "normal mode" in the nokia camera app. The tele camera is active when zoom 2x is choosen. Blocked top and lower tele camera to confirm. Do you use an alternative camera software?

Yes this looks like the preinstalled camera app.
In normal "PHOTO" mode, the lower tele camera works here as intended. Guess some weird SW bug/setting is causing you trouble.
Below is the interface screenshot, because the Appstore picture looks slightly different.

Exactly the same, also bought in Germany.
Maybe another picture related app on your phone, blocks the tele camera in normal foto mode.
As far as camera apps goes, I'm running the Pixel3Mod wo interference (this Gcam mod can obviously not use the tele camera at all), everything else is more or less stock.
I really wonder what is blocking, if that's the case.
I already restarted several times and opened the app right after it.
Doesn't work. Hrm...
Guess I'll see what HMD has to say.

Weird indeed.
As a last straw, did you try to reset the camera app settings and reopen the app afterwards?
Yep tried that too. Also tried to force stop all app that might use the camera.
Maybe it is just broken and there is a fallback to the working camera?
Edit: ah no wait it is working in bokeh mode so I guess the camera works ?
a bit worrying
That's normal
The telephoto lens only work if there is a good lighting condition, if it is a little dark environment then the normal lens only work with digital zoom because it has bigger sensor size so it give better photo
I got a message from Nokia stating that the change between the two cameras is done automatically.
I can confirm this, as suddenly it worked today in ONE instance.
Since then I couldn't confirm it again.
This automatism seems to work in like 5% of all times.
At least for me it is totally unclear when to expect the second camera to work.
Also how can I tell the second camera was used? So far pictures seem exactly the same.
Also on the display I couldn't see any difference when the second camera was actually working to the main camera using digital zoom.
It feels like I paid a lot more money for a useless gimmick for now.
If so, that's disappointing.
This is how all phones with dual camera work, if light is not enough then the phone automatically switch to the main camera.
Look at the different between the details of these photos
is there a way to have a bigger wide-angle? I am a bit disappointed because i thought with the second camera there would be some kind of a wide-angle option like action cameras have.
So there is really no way to switch manually?
Is there another camera app/mod which can give this functionality?
Use Live Bokeh mode, that's only way i got now...
I got another message from Nokia to reset the app and try again. Seems that might have resolved the issue partially as it seems to use the second camera more often. But I find it rather random still. I tested it on vacation for 3 weeks.
Often I can see a sudden switch of the camera even though the lightning situation is the same.
There is no wide-angle camera in Nokia 7 Plus mate

Nokia 7 Plus, A few Questions

Hi All,
Newbie here so please be gentle with me, love the look of this fourm so thought I would join in!
I purchased the Nokia 7 Plus here in the UK (TA-1055 model) about a week ago and I am very happy with it, I do have a few questions tho...
What does it mean by unlocking the bootloader? what does this do and what can you do once you have done this?
Is it really worth using the google camera app instead of the stock Nokia camera app?
Other tips on getting more battery life (not that I run out, just curious as to what settings you can change)
Also I am not getting the notification dots come up on any apps and the notification dot settings is set to on
Look forward to hearing your wise words!
I have the same model.
Unlocking bootloader is necessary to make root access workable and change ROMs etc. If you don't know what that means then don't bother with it
Yes it's really worth to use Google Camera app for normal photos (not videos). The difference is unbelievable. Use APK and settings from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76834155&postcount=267
Don't know how you can improve battery life (never bother with this, Android does this automatically) and get your notification dots working (notification dots need special permissions if you use another launcher).

Hi mate,
Thanks for your reply, dont think I will bother with the bootloader stuff as sounds too complicated for me lol.
Ok thats great will try that camera app! and how come dont use it for videos? I have just upgraded to this phone from a Moto G4+ and was seriously considering swapping this for a Moto G6 plus but really want to give this phone a chance! as i do like it!
And as for notification dots I managed to sort that in the special permissions settings by turning on launcher 3!
Video will not work well with Pixel camera because mainly of sound. The Nokia uses a special sound system with several mics called Ozo Sound. So it's best to use it with the Nokia camera itself.
Ok thanks, and is the sound quality noticeable when playing the video back on the phone or on a pc?
And not sure if this is something I can change in settings but the gcam won't zoom in when I want to take a photo is this right?
I think noticeable on both.
There is no good zoom in gcam because there is no Google phone camera with an optical zoom or second lens (so no support for second lens).

Question Is the Camera hardcoded to only work with Google Photos?

Hey all,
So I've decided I want to use a different gallery app instead of the Google Photos.
However, after disabling Photos and expecting to get the choice of how to open it from the camera app, it specifically tells me to install Google Photos.
Am I correct to assume it's a hardcoded link?
If so. Is anybody aware of a way around this?
Thing is, I do like the Camera, just not Google Photos..
Try
Gcam mod
It is Google Camera app modded to enable additional features
It has option to use third party gallery apps, although I haven't used that setting.
Try 8.6.xx versions
For me 8.7.xx versions dont work on P7
Yes, camera is HARD CODED to only load that crappy gallery that uploads all your data to gooble.
If you were running a google-free OS, I'd suggest using https://github.com/lukaspieper/Gcam-Services-Provider/releases
Well, that's something...
How stable are those gcam mods?
I mean, I'll give it a go, but it looks like it's supporting up to android 11.
edit:
So I installed a gcam mod, but I can't seem to configure the gallery app to use with it.
Could you point me in the right direction @utk_spartan ?

Android 11 is the minimum version supported not the max.
I can't comment on stability, I don't use Camera much.
See the attached screenshots for enabling 3rd party gallery support in Settings.
Also for versions 8.6.x set interface to P6pro
Wel, it's still asking Google Photos for me, exactly what version are you on?

Strange how I have no issues disabling Google Photo, and then are able to use the camera in any 3rd party gallery-app downloaded from the store.
F-Stop and Piktures works without issues on my Panther.
"Hard coded" as you put it might mean something different for you than others I guess.

That's not what OP is talking about. When you take a picture with the camera, you see the little circular preview? If you tap that, it will load the picture in gooble photos. Not some other application, JUST that one. That connection is hardcoded. The only ways to break it is to either hack the camera application, or create a request forwarder that pretends to be gooble photos.

That was what I assumed he was talking about.
The 'circle' works fine here without Google Photo, but if one want to click the 'Google Photo'-button up top to the left, that doesn't work (since its for.. Google Photo).
Meaning preview should work regardless of device (I'm on Pixel 7, just for clarity).
GCam have however enabled this in the settings, so with GCam downloaded and installed - even the Google Photo-button can be swapped out.
It's funny, it does only work (the mod) when Google Photos is installed.
So that's sub-optimal...
But not the original one @dmbardal , I suspect you're using a mod too. If not, can you show where you set this?
