Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I should do about this error which appears after restoring a Nandroid backup? The phone seems to be working ok so far. I've done Nandroid backup and restore several times without errors before but obviously something has changed.
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I cannot see any file called "recovery log" in the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder. There is a file called "recovery-update.zip".
I tried uninstalling/re-installing ROM Manager and then making and restoring a new nandroid backup but the result was the same. The backups are to the internal sd card.
I'd be grateful for any advice. I tried trawling around the forums for some hours as this seems to be a widely discussed issue but cannot find any clear explaination of the cause or fix.

do you use an external sd?
check if there is a clockworkmod folder in that.
Yes, there is a Clockworkmod folder on my ext/sd card. I wanted to do Nandroid backups there but the option to Use External Storage is greyed out on the settings page.
Right now, the only Nandroid backup I have in on the int/sd card

which settings page ?
in CWM you need to go to backup & restore and choose backup (this will backup to external SD).. there is another option to select backup to internal SD
I'm using ROM Manager (Premium) and under the settings there's an option to use external sd card but it's greyed out.

Use CWM directly to make backups to your desired storage
Can you tell me where to get CWM? I can only see ROM Manager on the Google Play site. I understand that RM is really just a front end for CWM but I'd have assumed the functinality would be the same.
Thanks again for the reply
if you are having hydracore the cwm will be already there. It's a recovery. you need to boot into recovery mode.
vol up + power + home

When you backup via nandroid (on Amon), what do you select?
I just left it on defaults but haven't had to do a restore yet so wondering.
From memory I think the following options are UNticked by default
- recovery - I assume this is Amon_RA itself, and I would never need this unless I totally screw it and have to manually push the nandroid backup from adb including the recovery image?
- sd ext - I assume its just the rest of the SD card = doesn't matter?
- .androidsecure - I assume its apps2sd, since I use titanium for that = doesn't matter?
Any experts advice appreciated, cheers
1. You don't need to check 'recovery'.
2. If you're using any custom ROM that can move your installed applications to Ext partition, it should be checked for backup. Otherwise, you may have problem when restoring it.
3. .android_secure is where the application goes when you move it to SD card. I recommend it to be checked if you moved any one to SD card, to reduce the chance to be screwed when you restore your backup.
Thanks I'll try again
I'm trying to backup my current ROM
I tried this http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...nandroid-backup-and-clockworkmod-rom-manager/ and it looks like it went through, but when I double checked and went back into Manage and Restore Backups there was nothing there. Then I went through Recovery into the advanced option and I got a message saying that there were no files there either. So It seems like if I follow the steps I don't get a backup file made. For the record I have no problems with Titanium Backup.
Have you tried do a backup directly through CWM, not the ROM Manager?
Via file explorer you should find your backup on your internal sd in clockworkmod/backup/

I did it directly and that seemed to work. After I did it that way there was a file in that backup folder.
I get this error while backing up using CWM
Error: Ext sd cannot be backed up, your device may not support backup of Ext sd!!!
And when restoring i get
Error: Ext sd cannot be found.
Why does these errors occur?
At a guess you are on an ics ROM?
Why do you want to bloat a nandroid with a back up of an external sd?, just copy contents to pc if you want to format it

came back to stock GB Rom. Some apps were FCing so decided to reset.
Missing Ext_Sd didn't cause any trouble.
All went well now need to check if those app work or or not.
But one question:
I have a really nice backup with all the installed apps and there data but couldn't restore it correctly as i forgot the kernel that i flashed with CWM using odin.
The backup file looks like a CWM 2 & i remember it was green CWM, but when i use any other kernel with CWM 2 other than the one used to back it up the files isn't restored properly. But i restored it once properly but forgot to see which kernel it was.
Is there any way to find out the kernel & CWM and restore it back properly?
How to find the real CWM used to backup those file?
In as few words as I can muster.
I recently tried to back up my current ROM CheckRomV6 using CWM. In attempting so the following occurs.

I need to get this fixed so that I can begin the progress change my rom. What is causing this? I'm thinking it's the kernel, but to be frank I really am at a loss. I'm still rather inexperienced with all this. Any suggestions? (I have searched.
You're probably using CWM or a ROM manager to do a backup
Try rebooting in recovery and use the option (Backup & Restore) to do a backup, use .tar format if available in the menu
Backing up the ROM doesn't require a safe kernel, but restoring a backup does
Best of luck

I just tryed that. Not. Good. This has officially gone over my current know how.
CWM won't let me select anything. Regardless if I scroll up or down ( to try to select Backup & Restore) The cursor moves... then the screen "blinks" black... and then my cursor is back where it originally was at (reboot). I need to make sure that this isn't a deeper problem before I flash something.
I am open for suggestions.
whats the kernel you on?

I can't seem to restore my backup back to my phone...
My backup files are inside both the internal and the external SD cards. In both cards there's a folder named clockworkmod, which has a folder named backup inside, which has a folder named with the timestamp (Apr-19-Fri.19.44 for me). In the timestamp folder there are the backup files.
But, it says that no backup files are found when I tried to recover using ROM Manager, the S3 Mini Toolkit, and from the TWRP recovery.
Am I doing something wrong?
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

You are obviously using CWM to make that backup. TWRP will never restore it. Just re-flash CWM and you are good to go
I made it with the toolkit... So I'll just flash the CWM 6.x.x.x recovery to my phone and restore from my phone's recovery mode?
