Hi all anyone else noticed that the 4.2 update seems to make the N7 worse not better compared to 4.1.2. To me it feels like a step back compared to the speed of Jelly Bean 4.1. It's like project Butter never happened to my device
I've seen a few scattered reports wondering if everyone is seeing this, for instance start up NFS:MW then switch to say Gmail or any other app, the entire thing starts to crawl for me. Problem wasn't present in 4.1.2
Considering reflashing but cant see that making a massive difference I did a full wipe before upgrading.
Thoughts all?
I am still on 4.1 with paranoid..will wait about a few weeks to read how is working..i am happy with curent setup so dont see to rush something "unknown" ..and i see that Bluetooth native tethering does not work which i use for connecting with my phone internet.

Same to me.
Updated via OTA on a rooted device with bootloader relocked. Enabled a second user.
OTA and no problems.
What made you think loading the factory image was the correct thing to do? Surely letting the device deal with it is the best route...

AHH now then, I've got 2 additional user accounts setup, 3 in total.. Could that be the issue, android is monitoring these other accounts even when not in use. I have two accounts with full access and another account sat at welcome.
Anyone else confirm that if you have multiple user accounts the N7 becomes sluggish switching apps?

I'll go out on a sturdy limb here and say.. Because it's the factory image provided by manufacture of the OS? That would seem like a right thing to do huh? Just like when you want to start fresh with Windows you wipe your drive and install via the factory image (DVD in Windows case).. It's 100% of the time a sure fire method the installation you have is the installation the manufacture intended.. Sometimes updates don't turn out all peachy and full of rainbows like they are intended to be.. So, some people take this into consideration and opt for a fresh install instead.

for me it was like that until I updated supersu to the latest version which is adressing this issues, since then, no slowdown or strange behaviour whatsoever. So if you a rooted wonder no more :good:

And there is nothing wrong with that. I agree with you.. 4.2 is a step backwards in Android development by a lot.. 4.2 spent 30 entire minutes on my device before I re-partitioned it back to a 4.1.2 file system (getting rid of the user account folder tree) and put 4.1.2 back on it and it'll stay that way until development catches up.

yup i like playing NS:MW and last night after the update the game slowed and stuttered like i was playing resident evil 4 on windows 95.
i think everyone soon will stop making ways to get to 4.2 and start concentrating on a guide for reverting back to 4.1 lmao
4.2 things i dont think i like:
the "edit" look lockscreen with 1 clock number bigger
the effects on games
no otg usb yet
the double notications windows
the update stole my working video cam effects and added a non-working photo-sphere mode....great

Agreed it does feel a bit slower. Opening apps and transitions don't feel as smooth as 4.1

Yeah it is a bit slower, no doubt. It's not just you. Hopefully 4.2.1 brings back the speed.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
4.2 certainly "feels" slower to me. The transition on the running apps seems different but I can't tell if it has been updated or is just happening fractionally slower so I'm noticing the transition more. I notice that you get the screenshot and then fractionally later the icon slides in from the left. Has this always happened?
Certainly when tapping the power button to turn off the screen it seems to fade slower and the click noise happens fractionally later than I would expect, which suggests it is just a performance issue.
I have added one new user profile account which I suspect is part of the issue. Pretty happy with the update but roll on 4.2.1

It is definitely slower while the screen is turning off. I suspect adding another user has got something to do with the performance degradation. I really hope 4.2.1 solves these issues.

Had to sort out my Brothers HTC Desire last night, reinstalling everything after a repair.
It was embarrassing seeing how fast installations were.
Apps downloaded, installed and the phone was instantly ready to go.
My O2x on the other hand grinds to a halt when installing anything. I updated 4 apps last night and my phone was pretty much unusable during the downloads and installation.
After the apps were installed it still sat there for a good 30secs at 99-100% CPU usage.
The phone was stuttering and unusable until the Processor settled down.
I remember when I got this phone I was telling my brother about the Dual core processor etc. This may sound good but it's useless if it falls over when doing the most simple of tasks and gets outperformed by something running half the power
yes, a very annoying bug, welknown by everyone - except LG
very embarrising for LG
Yep, a pretty good cockup by LG. Custom ROMs don't have this 'feature' though.
is there any way to sort this without resorting to a custom ROM?
No, you'd need to wait for LG to sort it.

The fix will be out before end of March next year, maby. As soon as we (LG) sorted the reboot and BSOD issue we (LG) will start working on your problem.
So in two weeks a year from now we promise you there will be a solution, if not sometime in spring 2013 for sure.
Althou we (LG) can't promise anything.
If you buy your telephone after summer 2013 you will be able to upgrade it to Gingerbread straight out of the box. Congrats!

There is a patch that Paul has made a week after the phones release.
r2-stock-performance-pack
And here is the explanation why this happens.
Explanation
Note the date of the post and mind that the phone was released In Europe In the last May weeks / begin of April.
If only every Android phone manufacturer gave their phones to Paul before release.

I looked at that but had also heard it didn't fix the lag.
My other concern was would Flashing CWM Recovery affect getting official updates OTA
I'm sure someone has said before that LG updates fail if you have a custom recovery
If they're a standard update.zip then they should still install on ClockworkMod recovery.
i dont get it, am i the only one without any sort of lag when dling/installing apps ? it just does it, and pretty darn fast too.
what the hell. and im on STOCK, no performance patches or nothing, only rooted and some stuff frozen. v10B
I have a lag as well. Like you just rooted with some apps uninstalled.
I kinda accept it though. My thoughts are that FSecure is scanning the install and therefore that's what's causing the problem. It's worse if you update say 4-5 apps at once.
TBH I'm not worried. I'm the kinda guy who just leaves a PC installing and hass a cup of tea. Same difference here really isn't it?
It's not F-Secure, it does it with that removed.

Hey, just a heads up on my experience with JB/UltimateN7000. My advice is don't do it..
I had the latest ICS stock German version with root, and mostly everything was acceptable. Default Samsung home screen was very smooth at first, but as I install apps (about 20 apps, no games) and use it more, it gets slow after about a week. Then I install Nova Launcher, and it's much better (smoother and responsive) than the Samsung launcher, but it feels slow time by time as if the device is already showing it's age. (I bought this for $600 in April 2012, and it already has 3 tiny cracks on the thin rim that wraps the screen, never been dropped, no scratches anywhere.)
I keep hearing about how JellyBean is wonderful and all, the awesome project Butter, and that it's going to be the true cure to make everything fast and smooth, competitive enough against Windows Phone and iPhone.
This is the same promise that ICS had when we were on Gingerbread. Lack of hardware acceleration on the graphics was the explanation back then. Even after ICS, it's still not as smooth as the competitors even with superior hardware.
I installed this XXLSC based Ultimate N7000 (had stock leaked JelleyBean for couple days before), I'm sorry to say this, but the performance really sucks. I understand that it could be due to this being a leaked ROM, but I'm kind of worried about this device's future. I wonder how are you guys are using your devices with leaked JellyBean.
What's with the lock screen, the overwhelming ink drop effect? The hardware is clearly lacking, but why are they (Samsung) trying to shove stuff in?
What's with the the pull down (notification) menus' small buttons on the top - springing back every single time wasting CPU cycles?
The dialer still takes 2-3 seconds to pull up. Opening contacts, or switching to recent call history tab makes me hesitate because it takes so damn long. This was a problem also in ICS.
Did you guys try the Camera app? Try taking a picture, and then try to review the picture you just taken. How long does it take? Mine takes about 30 seconds, and it lags horribly while doing all that. Now try that on a iPhone, it takes less than 10 seconds, and no stutter at all. (No, I hate iPhone's closed eco system so no thanks.)
It's like playing a FPS shooter game with high quality graphics/every effect enabled but only at 15 FPS, when it could play 30 FPS with lower graphics quality/effects. (I would much prefer at least 60 FPS though.)
I'm going back to my ICS stock backup for now, and maybe later on when Samsung releases JellyBean, and some developer makes a lean version, or do it myself, and I'll try it again.
It's just sad to see that a relatively powerful dual core phone is too slow to function satisfactory these days.
Lastly, thanks to the developers, and sorry for the vent. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to mock you or anything. I really do appreciate you and every other developers out there.

Hi all,
I've had my tab 8.9 WiFi from the beginning and have never really been a big fan because of the lag it produces. It has been laying on a shelf for a long time, but this week I decided to look on xda and maybe make this thing workable again.
I have tried CM 10.2 / 11 and the nameless ROM, but this thing keeps lagging!
Opening chrome takes 2 to 3 seconds, scrolling is not smooth everywhere. It's just not funny anymore. Even clash of clans or boom beach is lagging so much that it is unplayable.
When installing the ROM I wiped dalvik, cash and do several factory resets. Even changed dalvik to art, but also no luck. Locked the CPU at 1400 MHz, still not working.
How do I get an smooth tab 8.9????

Tough luck. Lagging was the #1 reason I sold my 7310. Watching devices as old as the Galaxy S1 managing HD videos without hiccups, and then watching the tablet struggle even with YouTube HD videos was a revelation that I made an error trusting a nVidia SoC...again. It was a real shame as I loved the screen size. I hope you find either a solution and/or eventually a better device.

I haven't been using the tab that much and the time I did the 'lag' was noticable, but hell... i bought it for a real good price at the time. So I said to myself, you can't have it all
After laying on a shelf for quite some time I wanted to start using it again, now kitkat is out for this device. But being used to a Nexus 5 I started to really get annoyed by the lag. Tried several roms, clearing cash and formatting things, ramped up the cpu to 1400 and now it is bearable but still noticable some times. A game like Boom Beach is still very slow, while the requirements of the game are the same as the tab.
After reading the faq of lagfix I ran a benchmark. These are the results, and I have a feeling I found the problem:
Is it me or is this just way too slow?

It is very hard to say. Have you checked (searched) the thread for brick reports?
Hmm...have a nandroid backup ready, then flash this and test.
What is that? This (quote grabbed from here):
*snip*...a completely different, lightweight and efficient random number generator called Havege . This sharply reduces cpu consumption and corresponding battery life loss compared to Seeder. It also does a better job at keeping entropy levels high hence your device is more responsive. It doesn't run in a CPU intensive loop either.

Not one brick report, but BrickBug says the chip inside is KNOWN to brick. There is just one mention (see my previous post) of the p7310/p7300.
Edit:
Okay, flashed the zip and installed the app:
Current Random Entropy Value = 4090
Not really sure what that means?

I guesse that's it? 'This eMMC chip is *known* to have the brick bug!' means it's probably 100% sure I'll brick my tab when running Lagfix?

More like their old devices. At least my GS3 has gone strong, but their latest products...eh. Sorry I can't be of any further help.
I too experience bad lag with jelly bean custom roms. Honestly I gave up and went back to ICS. I am using the "ultra" stock based ROM and it performs pretty well.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Free mobile app
You won't brick the tab using lagfix. Trim is not supported on our device. Our tab is affected by the brickbug but it's already patched by Samsung with the rollout of official ICS packages. I have done several factory resets using the stock recovery.
IMHO, all post-ICS roms are laggy and buggy. I never had problems with stock ICS. Just put the right combination of tweaks in there and it will be buttery smooth even w/out overclocking.

I totally agree. Our tab does not support trim and brickbug has been fixed. Currently using stock ics ultra by OmarEinea and works perfectly. I disabled animations and use nova launcher with all animations set to lightning fast and I have no problems. Few glitches here and there but its expected.

Quite sad things did not get better after I sold the device. I still remember that ICS ROM by motley and Team Galaxian Soup, it was the best running ROM for my P7310 back when. Also it's quite sad the NAND in these doesn't support trimming as that would have given it a serious boost in smoothness.

Yes, that's the bad part about it, tab has no TRIM support. In any case, I usually get around this limitation by using the stock recovery's format function (factory reset) as it wipes the device clean.

Sorry for bursting your bubble but that's not a replacement for trimming, we're talking about flash memory "defragmentation" and that doesn't go away with any formatting. Otherwise my other devices would still be running like new and the LagFix app would've done nothing to speed things up in the I/O department.
Hi, I'm new here, but I've been around for awhile, trying to find someone who has been going through the same stuff as me, and I finally have. My dilemma is this. I just got my nexus 2 days ago, upgrading from the n5. After installing 5.1, rebooting and restoring my apps I began to notice some lag. Like touchwiz type lag I had on my old note 2. And for the life of me I can't find any info on wtf is going wrong. It's the little things that I definitely expect a brand new phone to not do. For instance, when I swipe away running apps, they hang and freeze on the side of the screen. Play music routinely freezes when I try to play an album. Whenever I go from chrome to messenger, or close the app drawer, it lags. To the point that I don't even want to let people check my phone out. It is noticeable. I went back to T-Mobile and they said their diagnostic couldn't find anything, and maybe I was just too critical, but I'm not happy with this performance. I'm not rooted, just running apex launcher, animations turned down, no 3rd party apps, and it's not right. My question is, what do I do? I've got a week left on my grace period, does this sound like a faulty phone? Please help. I honestly don't want a different phone, just a "blazing fast, lag free nexus" as so many of you declare you have. I'm probably gonna have to shell out 50 more dollars for a restocking fee, and if I do and find that this is just the performance I can expect from the nexus I'm gonna be screwed. I hope you guys can point me in e right direction, because it seems like for most everyone 5.1 addressed all the encryption lag and stuff. Yet my fresh out the box device is as bad as my n5 was. Thanks in advance.
I also notice the lag when closing running apps and also in Play Music but not when closing the app drawer. My nexus 6 also gets pretty warm.
I think its an issue with android 5.1 and will be fixed in the next update hopefully.

I can't say I've noticed any lag or freezing, but there again I've been running a custom rom/kernel since day one. I suppose you could scale down animations to help any lag.
My phone only gets hot when turbo charging, as does every turbo charge phone.
Yeah the heat issue is not a big worry for me, but I'm just trying to figure out if my expectations were inflated or if there is something wrong with my device. As it stands now, I could not in good conscience pay 700 bucks for this device. I am a mailman, so I use my phone all day for music, directions, calls etc. And I'm out there moving quickly, I can't spend the time standing around waiting for maps to load, or play music to load up the beast mode playlist And what not. With my n5, OK Google and wired skullcandys I had full command until lollipop screwed it up. When you guys say you see No lag, do you seriously mean when you swipe away apps they just fly off the screen full speed and liquid smooth? I wish

try factory resetting from the stock recovery.
I have had my Nexus 6 from Verizon for a month. I am stock with Nova launcher. No lag anywhere at all... I use play music all day at work and I swipe the apps to close the programs a few times a day. Never have I seen them stick to the side for a moment. I have have my phone seem to lockup a few times but a reset always makes everything okay again.

Kill the 3rd party launcher, that can definitely be a source of problems like you are describing.
Second, root, kill the encryption, format data partition (to actually remove the crypto), restart. The encryption in 5.1 is *STILL* swcrypto, and will definitely cause slowdowns, increases memory consumption, and is just downright miserable.
you got to try things out. different software is not all the same.
Do any of your apps have accessbility access? I have been experiencing similar symptoms to yours, there's a video showing what it does to animations in the thread I made asking if anyone else experiences this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/ui-stuttering-caused-accessibility-t3088343
Try turning off all accessibility access permissions and see if it goes away.

Man I wish it was as simple as you make it seem. To me that sounded like if I said I want an 11 second car, and you're like, well just swap in an rb, port and polish, bigger turbo's, etc. Haha its not that easy I think. I've always wanted to try root, but I was afraid to brick it up. If I've decided to pay the restocking fee anyway to get a new nexus, would it be unwise to try rooting now?
So I'm still having this problem, and unfortunately I have been unable to find any explanation for why this micro stutter exists. I think I have to return this phone but tomorrow might or forever hold my peace. I'D really appreciate any insight available as to why a brand new flagship caliber nexus would have micro stutter that I can't fix.
Thanks guys
.just bummed cause there is no other worthy phone at the right size besides the nexus. But I can't pay for a glitchy device.
Sad but hopefully an update will fix it soon

If you havent traded it in yet... did you try the factory reset? Definitely remove apex, try the phone with stock launcher, then with nova. If that doesnt work for you, I would root (make sure you study and learn) and install a custom ROM. I'm currently running AISP, its the best ROM Ive ran so far on my nexus 6 Good Luck bud.
As soon as I got mine, I turned off encryption and minimized animations and had no problems. Now I'm running a custom rom, and still no problems. Fast as #&%@.
encryption is not the issue

I wanted to thank all you guys that posted, I appreciate it. So I went ahead and restarted in safe mode and realized the problem lay with one of my apps, or running alot of zooper widgets and not factoring that into account when judging the speed of animations. Anyhow, I havent identified a particular app that was causing the problem, but it has gotten better now that Ive cooled it with zooper. Still love this phone, glad I didnt trade it in for a smaller s6 or old g3, next step, learning what im supposed to do once Ive rooted this phone.

Use Samsung Kies
good question on the counter, I have restarted my phone and have not seen it, Buuut I did freeze knox though. As far as updating Use Kies took about 10 mins
USB audio?
I got the Lollipop update this morning through T-mobile. It was smooth to update, and I haven't noticed battery issues or anything others had reporter.
However, I was super-excited for Lollipop, because it allows for USB microphones. And I've tried all 5 of the ones I own without success. I tried Samsung support, which was useless. They weren't even aware of the feature.
Do you think it's possible that Samsung or T-mobile bypassed this native feature to Lollipop? I was connecting via OTG cable. I haven't tried mic to powered hub to OTG yet, because I've seen Nexus owners on Lollypop just connect USB microphones via OTG.
I'd be grateful for any advice any of you gurus have out there. I am not rooted or running anything custom. I've been fairly happy with stock. But, like I started with, I was all the while looking forward to this Lollypop update for portable recording via USB. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.
Downloading as I type...I'm sure I am wasting my time since I been rocking BeanStalk 5.0.2, but my curiosity is making me just give it a look and see how it works. It'll be nice to use the S-Pen features again, but Lollipop without all the bs that samsung and tmo put on there has been nothing short of amazing.
Why have the note 4 when you can have PURE android just like you want with the new 6 inch moto. But whatever guess I will never understand why people will buy a car. Strip it off its goods (rims/system/under the hood upgrades) just to have a classic stripped stock vehicle? I mean already having the features why give then away? I will never understand

Assuming that you're talking about the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro, there's no need to debate/discuss why I would want TouchWiz on ANY level, which is why I was close to buying a Nexus 6. Honestly though, for me, while the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro isn't a bad phone(they're both really great phones), they lost me with no way to add extra storage or remove your battery if needed. In addition, while I have been running Beanstalk for the last few weeks, I still think the S-Pen is a really great feature to have on the Note 4. There's really no need to go into details about which phone is better, because it will always come down to preference, but in regards to your comment, it's not as stripped down as you present it to be.

Can I ask how you did that? I upgraded from BeanStalk to stock Lollipop via Kies, but I'm getting force closes on gapps services. Can barely use the phone they are coming in so frequently. What did you do to uninstall gapps and how did you get the correct version installed?

No attitude here, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am certainly not hating on you for what you're saying and personally, in many(maybe most) aspects, those are flat out better phones than the Note 4. I just installed this bs lollipop so now as I type, I am flashing back to BeanStalk. The lack of a removable battery i could live with, but the expandable storage is a necessity for me, the only reason I am staying with the Note 4 since most phones that are coming out are converting to that style.

You do not need to install gapps on stock ROMs. They are included. Installing them as a zip will break them. So, factory reset (or fresh install), and don't flash gapps.

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I actually didn't install gapps over the stock ROM. Not sure what it didn't like installing over Beanstalk. I did a wipe before I installed via kies. Anyway, I resolved by doing a factory reset, like you said. Did two actually. All is well now, thanks.
