Android Open Kang Project - galaxysmtd - Build 34. One of the best ICS roms. Stable with a good battery life. Have been using it for a few weeks now and haven't faced an issue yet.
I can recommend Team ICSSGS RC4.2 because I've been using it for a while without any bugs. I flashed MINCS 190 kernel and everything seems OK till now.
You may also try Slim ICS. A friend has been using it and he says it's rocking stable!
thankyou
alright thanks i will try them
INFINITUM. great ! But try not to use themes.

Been using AOKP build 34 as well and I can't really fault it in anyway.
I would also recommend Slim ICS, Dark Knight V5.5 or INFINITUM

Hello
I am trying to flash an stable ICS rom for my brothers phone but I really can't find anyone without major bugs. CM9 = to much bugs, Nyx RC 5.0 is just pure ****, Slim ICS (what the **** is wrong with the font?) So can someone recommend me a nice and clean ICS rom that is stable enough for daily use?
I just installed CM9 today and it works pretty good despite the camera and the radio (and now there are alternatives to avoid those bugs too).

CM9 is sluggish as hell so I wouldn't recommend that either. However I don't really understand your font issue with Slim ICS. It does only have 5 system languages but you can install additional fonts to display languages via the "Updater" app included.
In your case as you've eliminated Slim ICS, I guess ICS333 (Team 3xtr3m3) is probably the best one out there. AOSP based with toggles from AOKP and offers a good balance between performance and battery life, with no bugs I can really tell.
Team-Nyx (RC5) yet the most stable rom for me on ics and its pure AOSP

Actually I find cm9 to be the fastest. I've gotten the highest benchmarks compared to slim ics, aokp, etc. Plus I have a bit more trust on cyanogenmod than aokp. Team nyx is pure ics stock but its really slow. Cm9 all the way for me always.

Hi !
Unfortunately, though ICS is extremely good the Custom ICS has it's quirks !
This is because they are developed without source codes from Samsung and no matter how good they are, at a certain point they show their lack of support which they never received from the manufacturer in the first place and therefore after a few days ( or if lucky, weeks) things don't work properly and needs reboots frequently.
Having ICS is like having a short love affair.
Use Gingerbread or change phones.
Sad fact, but true.
Look at the custom ICS camera and look at the original ICS camera. Do you think that we are going to get all the goodies in the SGS ?
Similarly, there are many great features of ICS which the developers cannot give us.
Time to move on.
Take care.

Stable ROM
Hello the most stable ROM was RC4.2 with semaphore 1.1.1
Now I am on RC5 from Team Nyx. It's stable. The only thing that doesn't work is YouTube. Flashing another kernel from Devil (2_0.94) will help.

Hi.
Can you please stop posting these opinions as facts, when the "problems" can easily be fixed. This is a development forum, at least it used to be, and you cannot expect everything to work right out of the box like official stock firmware (even though it does most of the time). It's not like you've been scammed by a car salesman selling you a car without an engine.
No offense intended, but please stop it.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
My apologies.
U r correct . In fact, perhaps I might go back to ICS again cause in reality, Gingerbread is not user friendly....there I go again...
Regards.

i have tried almost all of ics roms but always got back to Elite roms for the stability, smoothnes and battery life
Rom: Elite RC v1.3
Kernel: midnight 202L
Launcher: Apex Launcher with sense4.0 dock
Theme:Sense 4.0 for EliteRom
I can highly recommend ICS333 2.0.1 with Semaphore kernel. Perfectly stable, not one reboot so far. It's fast, simple and works well in every way.
It's all just opinions, try them out

Everybody has his own taste, some people like AOSP, some people like AOKP, some people like CM9 while some people like slim ROM regardless with few bugs ... also there are people here in this forum (like you) who install ROMs incorrectly n find it **** (yes i am pointing to Team Nyx's ROM). When you have tried some of the ROMs, why don't you try all of the ROMs?
p.s. Team Nyx's AOSP is the only ICS ROM I found stable and less battery consuming after slim, this is only my point of view.

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, will we ever get Jellybean ported to the Captivate? If so how long does this process normally take?
Sorry I have no idea how these things work, not being impatient, just wondering.
Thanks
If you want it that bad, the TAJB port for I9000 works fine on our phone with the latest Devil Kernel
It's a slightly long process to get everything(SMS+phone) to work
1: clear dalvik, normal cache, and wipe data
2: flash TAJB .45
3: flash devil Kernel
4: search through thread and flash test modem for phone calls and SMS
5: place the audio_policy.conf from the nexus s port into the system/etc/ folder

There's another thread discussing Jelly Bean for Captivate. You might want to check that one. It doesn't have any firm timeframes for any of the ROMs to release a 4.1 version, but it does confirm that they're working on it.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775373, it works fine for me. Only things that do not work - Camera and Sound notifications. Otherwise, it is pretty awesome.

Just flashed it using the directions posted.
Can't seem to get my Data to connect. Won't save any apn's I add to it to connect. The phone can locate the appropriate Network Operator (CAN Rogers Wireless Inc.), but data will not connect. Also, when I go to the Data Usage tab, it doesn't show a tab that lets you see Data na dWireless usage like it did in ICS.
Any ideas on how to fix?? JellyBean is wicked smooth for such an ealy release and I'd hate to revert back to CM9 (it was not cooperating with my cappy!)

Same here, just installed it last night and it's smoother than any rom I've EVER used! That project butter google built for jb is crazy smooth
Funny thing guys, Project butter hasn't been incorporated into the kernels yet. The v-sync and timings have to be messed with. So if you think it's smooth now, wait until project butter is actually running

That's ridiculous. I noticed an amazing jump in smoothness from the latest CM9 nightly to the V2 of the Jelly Bean ROM and if it's only gonna get better, I can't wait to see how fast it gets. Still very, very minor bugs that barely affect functionality at all, but man is it fast!
ya i noticed it was crazy smooth as well. but couldn't live w/o camera. so i went back to remics-ux. which is almost identically smooth imo. cant wait util we actually get project butter and a fully functional jb rom

You ought to relook the JB ROMs. I'm using DerTeufel's, and haven't had any problems with any component in the last three releases.
cbalt and dave have stripped down versions of DerTeufel's port, and by all reports, they're worth of being your daily driver, too.

I used to have stock Gingerbread on my SGS I9000. Then I switched to DarkyROM ICS, which was okay. After a while I came across the SlimRoms website, which was still developing Slim ICS at the time, so I flashed ICS, which was brilliant. Shortly after the Slim team started working on SlimBean, and after reaching a stable version I tried it for myself, a decision I am glad I made.
SlimBean is by far the lightest, fastest ROM I've used so far. Give it a try for yourself and you'll see how amazing, lag-free it is. I'm using version 3.1 with the Semaphore kernel version 2.6.2s.
Hi,
I've flashed many roms on my i9000 : Miui, cyanogen 7, Cyanogen 9, Jelly Bean, ICs..... but for me the best one is the JW8 SAUROM.
Stable, fast, GS3 Theme and a very good battery life !!
Since i am on this rom i don't want to flash another one !
Slim 3.1 with semaphore 2.6
If someone help me i definitely HIT THANKS....
Your question must be more specific, and I'll try to explain...
In my opininon the are only 2 developers team which should be considered, first CyanogeneMod which leads because of it's bigger number of devs (so more supported devices). 2nd is AOKP, which I personally prefer because it's more designale and more good looking, but also very stable. I've tested hardly both, but 5th build from AOKP has best battery life, so I'm never going back to CM, only for new tests, making new statistics etc.
Hope I helped, greetings

But not alll stock rom 2.3.x can be flash with semaphore.. and not all i9000 can be flash with the same s/rom. But still semaphore 2.7.4 is the best way to get cwm. If flashi v semaphore causing boot failure, try to flash with other s/rom and re-flash semaphore.

The idea of two developers was what I was thinking as well when I was making a decision either to stay on stock 2.3.6 or flash something new. CM9 is more "readable" for me in terms of numbering and Stable/Nightly/Experimental. Even tough I do not understand how come there is a stable version followed by nightly builds.
When watching some videos and screens of AOKP I felt it might be even better but I got confused in the numbering (which of the builds is the most stable as I need a working phone not a phone to be flashed twice a week).

C-Rom Mix V9 here - it's a near perfect ROM. Stable, everything is where it supposed to be. Very smooth operating. My last phone - XPERIA ARC S was destroyed (and its hardware is superior to that of i9000) - Galaxy - being slower by half is faster when speaking about this system operation. There are some hiccups with number recognition sometimes (like 1/10 phone calls and only till i pick up - so no showstopper for sure ). The camera is limited to just basic functions - but is working perfectly fine. The calendar is more basic than in ICS modded ROM for ARC S. The battery last for a day or less - but here i cannot say if the battery in my phone is just old or is this ROM (i got the phone used and the battery is 2,5 yo). And these are my only complaints - not much I have MUUUUUUUCH more complaints on every other stock/modded rom for Galaxy & ARC S
It's my daily ROM more than a week now.

Stock android usually is quicker (something like CM but if you want a different look there're always themes)

using the [ROM][DEV][JB][4.2.2] AOKP for Passion Unofficial Nightlies
I'm using the [ROM][DEV][JB][4.2.2] AOKP for Passion Unofficial Nightlies
even donated to the developer, impressive.
can even be patched using autopatcher to support pdroid,
The GB ROMS such as CM 7.2, MIUI 2.3.30 are very smooth and stable. MIUI especially offers a degree of customization not seen in most other ROMs. However, my only problem with these ROMs is the slow Write speed they've got - copying files to the SD card is a drag even if you have a class 10.
The JB ROMs (esp. 4.2.1 VJ) are very smooth and almost stable ( Camcorder, Tethering, Faulty 3G), but they kernel is optimized for faster transfers. If you can live with the niggles I mentioned, JB ROMs are the way to go.
