Unlocking bootloaders and S-Off are different. Unlocking the bootloader just gives you some access to the boot partition, whereas S-Off means you have access to ALL partitions. Unlocking the bootloader is the first step.
With it unlocked, it will say UNLOCKED, and if you lock it back, it will say RE-LOCKED. With proper S-Off, you can downgrade the HBOOT so it will say LOCKED for warranty purposes. S-Off is not yet available for this phone

THANKS for your direction pointing!
your reply solved most of mysteries about this subject in my head.now i had a general understanding of what these "terms" mean, just too many of them and causes me a headache...
ok, 1st step, i am doing this!:good::laugh:
Just be careful, check your phone for AL defects before unlocking your bootloader. Warranty is void when you do, unless you can prove whatever defect you send the phone in for is not a result of unlocking, and even then...

You will get the update but not be able to install it if you run a rooted stock rom. You won't be able to flash it unless you unroot and put the stock recovery on. This can be done with a ruu

Read Mikes topic in Android development, I'd recommend reading about it before you touch any of this. Wait for the 4.2.2 update to see if it solves your problem, it should be out soon. If not then I'd say go and root.

Hello guys,
Samsung has officially released the souce code of the SGS4A-Kernel.
I hope that can help us for building a Kernel.

SGH-I537_ATT is up as well. downloading it now.
Please tell me this helps us in some way towards getting ROMs on this phone.
Not sure if one could make a One Click Odin from this. :fingers-crossed:
You've got to be kidding me! Wow. Just wow.

@thatbigmoose do you know if this will help anything? Or just for the future of development?
Does anyone have a config file for this kernel ? or know where I can get one ?
Been rooting and downloading mods for a while. Im eagerly awaiting for atts active to be unlocked. Does this increase the chances of having custom roms? If anyone knows input would be greatly appreciated becuase this thread is kind of dead with little else info.

Your problem is that the american ATT version of the SGS4A has a locked bootloader. The kernel source code is not going to help you there, unfortunately.

Sorry, but there seems to be a new post every other day about people borking their Sprint phones because they flash a Rom from the "HTC One" forum.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
-------------------------------------
ROMS from the international forums WILL mess up your phone and you will be lucky to fix it after that! I get you want the shiny new 4.2.2 but those ROMS will not --I repeat-- WILL NOT WORK ON THE SPRINT HTC ONE.
Sure, they used to, but once they moved onto 4.2.2 they will not flash.
I feel this should be sticky in every thread on the Sprint HTC One forum.

Would this be helpful to anyone? It's kind of on/off topic... A direct link to HTC's copy of the HTC One update for Europe?
And by a direct link, I mean an HTC URL?
I mean, the proof is in the pudding...by which I mean the constant stream of "bricked plz help" threads.
So all of these stupid people that aren't reading prior to flashing and you think they are going to magically read this? I really hope this prevents a few but I doubt it.

From what I've seen all the major ROM's say in some fashion or another that it won't work for Sprint so it's mostly people just not reading. Maybe they could make the font about it possibly destroying phones if you are on Sprint bigger...and flashing...surrounded by naked women. Then maybe people will see it.
Unless your a Dev or know what your doing I wouldn't flash non sprint things... I know the partition labels and boot.IMG stuff so I have gotten things to work but not for a noobie

I have never seen so many people flashing the wrong roms as I have seen with the HTC One...If people would read then they wouldn't have these issues but we all know they won't read this either. You bought a Sprint HTC ONE, why would you not come to the SPRINT HTC ONE Development section to find a rom???

No no no... You don't want to do that! First. Go to Apple.com, that part is right, but you have to download their Symbian Factory ROM. Then put your phone into DFU mode open ChevronWP7, and while holding shift select the .ipsw file you just downloaded and you'll be up and running with the latest version of WebOS in no time!!

Hello. I am new here, Ive rooted, flashed, modded, all that jazz. Ive always found my answers on XDA here, but I cannot seem to be able to find anything so far. I will keep looking, but I am having some troubles with my virgin mobile HTC desire 510.
I was attempting something with a smart watch, which honestly has nothing to do with this, and I tried flashing the incorrect kernel. It was for cricket. I had a small moment where I didnt read carefully enough, and now I am stuck on the htc boot screen, and I cannot get it to boot regardless of what I do. I can get to fastboot, and recovery. Any help would REALLY be appreciated in this matter, I dont care if I have to return to stock.
Then reflash the correct kernel? You got into fastboot... So flash the kernel through fastboot

I may have figured it out. I had thought my backup was gone, I may be fine. I will try a restore.
