I ordered this vehicle dock from B&H photos for 11.99 plus shipping. It works with cases and in landscaped mode and with my budget.

The thing I like most about it is that it doesn't impede my view at all. Even though this is by far the biggest device I've own. It also fits with car and it's adjustable for even wider phones (Galaxy Note 3).
You can find it with product codeAPHU on B&H website & Amazon sells the holder too. (I would have added links but my account is restricted until i make 10 posts).
I add a NFC sticker to activate Car Dock settings and automatically open the Ultra Car Home app (by far the best car dock app I've seen). I purchased the stickers on ebay for 6 bucks for 5 from a guy in Cali.

I would recommend against the NFC sticker on the dock itself. For some reason, the phone will randomly detect the NFC tag while docked, and give it's NFC bleep bleep sound. It will stop music, switch to the handset speaker, bleep, then go back to bluetooth or aux out.
I ended up going with something similar, but it mounts in the CD slot, getting it off the dash and out of the view of the road. Works great!

That's a cool layout. How are you sharing the phones display with your car without having cables attached?
The CD mount won't work for my car because it would block the LCD display for my radio.

You have a link you point us in the direction of that? Thought the concept was ridiculous but seeing it actually in use it looks brilliant.
The myford touch radio allows me to install background pics from USB, along with contact photos.
Heres the link to my vehicle mount.

This looks awesome...I guess depends on the price compared to the hdmi dock from Dell.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Would have been good if it had hdmi out, unless it could be modified somehow?
Hi yosemite_sam,
Is that the one from Mobile Fun? personally i decided i really don't need HDMI out and as don't really connect my Streak to my computer that often so not sure i need one at all. What i have gone for so far is one of those Car Dashboard Silicone stand things that i found whilst going through E-Bay i think it was i n the iPhone4 section and also works as a desk top stand. It works like the Clingo thing but isn't as large or ugly IMO it is made of black metal with two large silicone pads one to fix it to the surface of the desk top or car dashboard and the other that the Streak fixes to on the stand . All i have to do is change the angle slightly to fit the charging sync cable in the Streak and so far I'm happy with how it works plus it was cheap to think it was only £7 or £8 delivered.
Marc
Hi Dogmann
can you provide a link to your car kit, I please? Was thinking of Clingo but no available date yet
thanks
AJed
Hi ajed
This is it and i was wrong it was even cheaper then i thought at just £6.05 delivered
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-DASH-STAN...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item1c136f9612
The large rubber pads although they attract dust can just be cleaned under running water and remain really stick. As i said its black metal with two large rubber pads and far lees intrusive then some of the other stands I've seen. Although i should mention i do only use it in Landscape on both my Desk and in car so it may not suit you if you want your Streak in Portrait.
Marc
Hi Dogmann can you show a photo of your streak on the stand that you posted?
Seems to have dropped in price already to £5.65.... thanks
This would work for me, as I don't need HDMI out, and I'm not ready to pay for Dell's high markup on their home dock.
Thanks for the link Dogmann. Looks perfect for dashboard or desk. I'm getting one
This is perfect. i need 3 of them. I didn't want to pay the high price and have no need for the HDMI out.
does this use a standard mini usb cable, or does it require the Dell streak cable?
the site was confusing.
any other desktop options?
As far as I can tell, it only uses the mini USB for syncing. There is a separate round pin socket for charging. There are also HDMI and line out sockets on the dock.
Has anyone actually got one of these Docks from Superetrader? It isn't clear whether it is actually available?
If so, what's it like?
This dock would be great if someone would please enable the full HDMI for Dell Streak.
Here is the dock I made. Does anyone know if there is a magnet on the dell to dell if it is in a car dock? I would like to add that to my dock if possible.
I built my own car dock to mount in what used to be a coin tray on my 06 F150. Could be a little higher maybe but I had a spot I never used so I thought I would take advantage of it.

and here it is in the truck
Nicely done!
Which cable are you using there?
I might sugguest for the next time that you take apart a Home Dock (since it includes both power and line-out from the PDMI connector on the Streak) and use that so you can have permanently mounted power/audio out going into the truck's audio system.
Superb! You should sell your design to one of the accessories companies!
What I like about it is it looks really un-cluttered and the device is not swamped by the cradle.
Also, it looks like there's probably no 'wobble'. Which is good.
Not sure about the magnet, but what a superb design.
That is pretty cool Kevin! I don't think the Dell has a car dock mode so I doubt there would be any magnets. (I could be wrong though)

I am using the normal pdmi to usb cable. There is a usb hook up on my stereo so it charges and I can play music through it.

I know they offer a car kit but I can not see any spot that looks like it houses a magnet and I have run a magnet around the back of the phone.. no luck.
holy crap this is pimpin
My dell streak came with the clear hard shell protector that covers the sides and back, so I am working on permanently connecting that to the inside of my 4Runner.. we'll see how that goes
Nice job. It looks awesome. Is it made out of plastic or aluminum?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Absolutely stunning! Didn't quite understand how you get audio through usb though...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
erm, i don't think he DOES get audio through USB.
I'm guessing it mounts the streak as a removable storage device so the head unit can access the mp3 files on it....
I connect to my Pioneer unit via bluetooth and I gotta say the Streak's BT audio streaming is awesome! Really clear and powerful.
I'm after a car phone holder with a USB connection built in. Has anyone come across one for a sensible price?
All I can find is the official HTC one which is over £50!! I've toyed with the idea of using a desk dock (£12), however I'm not sure whether this is a good plan as the phone's USB port will be put under some strain from the vibration of the vehicle which could lead to it being damaged.
EViS try ebay I got mine from there about a year or so ago, don't use it now (ebay that is )
I use this one in my car:
dealextreme.com/p/usb-ac-battery-charging-dock-cradle-for-htc-hd2-100-240v-44622
Works fine, connected both usb-connections to chargers... also charges extra battery.
Just attached with some welcro to the underside and the dash.....

Will that fit the TMOUS HD2?
I know a USB connection was required, but those are hard to find for a car cradle. I just got one of these for $7.50 on Amazon.

Card Cradle on Amazon
Works great. Sticks to my windshield and holds on. Pefect fit for my TMOUS HD2 in the holder with no lame thick padding. Camera functions also via an opening for it in the holder. Turns many ways for custom angles. I'm buying a second for my desk at work because I'm just that geeky.
Does that one shake while you driving?
I've got me self something like this but when i'm using it with eg. alaprecoreder app i cant get decent video....

It does just a little bit. I didn't think about that and video. I'll do a test video when I head out for lunch later.
*Edit*
I ran some video tests and was impressed with the results. If your car rides smooth, the holder should stay still. My truck does not ride smoothly but most of the time it worked and the video was very watchable. I only had issues with bumpy road spots, shifting, or when I got over 70 mph (112 kph). Not an issue with the holder, just my truck shaking some.
I made a cheap mount for my nexus 7 today because I was tired of laying my tablet in my center console while it streamed music via Bluetooth. My truck is a 2003 f150 lightning with a double din Panasonic DVD player in the dash.
All I used were two angle brackets that a held a plywood box together for shipping. I took one bracket and bent a lip in the bottom and zip tied it to the other bracket. I then shoved the bracket into a narrow slot above my radio.

To hold the tablet to the bracket I used double sided foam squares that are made to hold mirrors to the wall and stuck a thick magnet to them.
Its not pretty but it is functional. I have some small neodymium magnets coming from amazon that I will glue to a case to clean up the look. Here is a picture in the mount
I ran my charger behind the dash and out the front so I can plug it in with minimal wires. I use tasker to open car home ultra, turn on music, set the screen to always on, and turn off WiFi when Bluetooth connects. I also use tasker to close car home, turn on WiFi, and turn the screen off when I cut the truck off and power stops feeding the charger. I plan to plasti-dip the bracket to make it less likely to scratch. What do you think?

Mad props
I was expecting lots of duct tape lol...btw what app is that
Wow great and simple install
Plastidipping the plate will look nice!
I opened up the back on my Nex7 and put in a thin piece of steel in the center of the NFC antenna and another one in the opposite end, the tablet is then mounted to the dash via strong neodynium magnets behind a plastic plate on the dash.

and this is how my dash looked before hand
now my current/previous set up was a modded head unit with pre outs to a pre amp which in the picture is above the HU- (that is now underneath the HU) then that to my amp for my speakers and my sub
so it fits pretty nicely inside but
-I want it to be removable
-and there is no space at the side for headphone jack or USB....
anyway, got the facia and fitted
and am now thinking of just getting a plastic case and glueing it to the front and so my nexus can snap in and out
but that means I will have wires hanging out the edge which I will have to connect every time- not the end of the world though.....
so just waiting for this case to turn up and an OTG connector and I can get it in and working
I will use the voulme controls on the pre amp/graphics EQ to control the volume so not too worried about that and tasker to control display
which leads me onto a question about tasker- I only really got it last night so havent had much time to play with it....
but I would like to set up the following
when plugged in: screen on all the time, between 7am and 8pm screen on max, between 8pm and 7am screen on lowest
and on auto brightness when not plugged in
as I want to use this day to day so will be removable so dont want the brightness changing if im using it in the house...
or the other way is use the users and have one for house and one mode for car?
so I need a little bit of help with tasker? thoughts?
once thats all sorted I will be looking into adding a Freeview USB dongle and using a kernal which supports it so I can listen to DAB
I left a long walkthrough on how to do what you want with tasker, including airplane mode here:

Take a look at usbfirewire.com (if available in the UK). I had the same issue with next to no space for headphone jack or USB, they sell a downward facing micro USB extension. Worked perfectly for me in the minimal space I had, also look into adding a USB-DAC as that then cuts out having to run the headphone cable.
Do you have some sort of custom made facing for the nexus? It looks like it in the last pic.
