[Q] Having trouble unlocking boot loader. - HTC Sensation XL

Hello,
I want to root my HTC Sensation XL, but i am having trouble unlocking my boot loader.
I choose all of supported models HTCdev, I have gone through the the steps, but when i reach step 5 and 6 is when i start having trouble.
I do not have the files that they show in the steps - Programs Files > Android > Android-sdk.
I downloaded the sdk zip provided on HTCdev, but still having no luck, If someone could helpo me i would really appreciate it.

Hi,
Bumping this as I have a similar problem and can see you guys dont like noobs making new threads (going by the welcome video) :silly:
I have a HTC Sensation XL on Three (uk), everything is stock as far as I'm aware.
Today I had to reset my phone, once I done this it brought up the boot menu instead of starting up which reads
LOCKED
RUNNYMEDE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOY-1.20.0006
RADIO-3831.16.00.16_M
EMMC-BOOT
APR 24 2012 18:59:39
HBOOT
Now i can move to select fastboot, recovery etc but pushing power does nothing? There is nothing wrong with the power button as it works ok to swtch it on. When I connect the phone to the computer Htc sync does not see it, neither does the computer.
Any ideas???
I have searched high and low for the past 4.5 hours and tried all similar problems fixes to no avail. Really want to sort this as I love this phone and have pictures on it which I cant get back either!
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!!!

Ps
Forgot to mention that when I try to unlock the bootloader it just says waiting on device instead of giving me the big list of text. Dont know if unlocking it would actually help me but just trying anything!!!

Would be grateful to anyone who could point me in the right direction here

Start phone in bootloader, go to fastboot and press one time on powerbutton. Download the tool lexmazter made xl tool I think, start it and unlock bootloader. Then flash a recovery with same tool but be aware that touch recovery for hboot 1.28 also ics hboot in that you can't mount as card on computer. Then go to recovery and wipe all and mount as card for pc and move Rom in it and flash Rom from ad card

Hi,
I've partially figured out what the problem is.
Before my phone locked me out I noticed the volume down button wasnt working. Putting two and two together I figured that this must be causing it to enter the boot menu when I push the power button to bring it on.
Held down the power up button as I switched it on and voila, phone comes on...only in safe mode.
So now the problem is how do I exit safe mode without switching my phone on and off? Obviously when I switch it on without holding volume up it just goes to bootloader where Im unable to select anything via power (guessing because volume down is stopping it).
Thanks for the reply!!!!:good:

[Q] No Recovery + Bootloop + hboot 1.47.000 + S-ON

Ok... I'm having quite an issue here and i'm not sure what to do next. I've been looking over the forums and I cant seem to find anything that helps.
I have a Sprint HTC Hero CDMA. The device just hangs at the white HTC screen when booted normally.
When booting into recovery, the only option is to delete user data.
I've tried flashing with hboot, I've tried using RUU's.. I cant seem to get anything to get this phone to boot.
Fastboot info:

MICROP-0110
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104

**Additional Notes**
This phone does not boot. So anything required to be done from within android will not work.
ADB does not connect.
Fastboot - REMOTE NOT ALLOW.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out. Anyone able to offer any help?
I'm assuming you've tried deleting user data?
You've tried ruuing with a HERCIMG.zip? (http://www.mediafire.com/?m6x4sr682ruk027)
And after all that it's just looping?
So since ADB isn't connecting, you can't run a logcat to see where it might be hanging?
I probably can't offer much help and late Friday night is a quite time here.
Yes.. have tried deleting user data.. and have flashed several of those packages. I'll try the one you posted and see.

That's from this post if you are wondering
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9944755&postcount=9
Installed that manually from hboot by moving it to sd, renaming it, and updating. It went through the whole update, said it completed, rebooted.. and same as always.. sitting at a white screen with HTC in green.

Sounds like it's bricked to me. I don't know what else to tell you, sorry.
are u sure not pressing home+back instead of home+power because thatll go to clear storage and it drives me crazy because i always do it by accident due to big thumbs lol
Me agrees with Bierce, you also can try volume down+power then press home to get to recovery that way. Alternative install htc sync and D/l an ruu from htc site connect phone and start the process all over .I know it's long but the eng-spl is reversible when you unroot but the unrevoked s-off, isn't it's at a different level, and they haven't created an s-on for the Hero that I know of. Good Luck we are here to help
EDIT: If you are s-on you can't use the HERCIMG.zip's. AFAIK but I might be mistakin.

Cannot get to recovery from hboot. Option is selected, but it just hangs at white screen with HTC in green.
I took your advice, about the fat fingers lol and used a screw driver to press the power button to make sure I wasn't hitting the back. It just displays the same white screen.. I'm beginning to think this phone does not have a valid recovery partition.
I've tried running multiple RUU's. It take me into bootloader, uploads, flashes, says it completes, but then just hangs at the same white screen after reboot.
if it dosnt have a recovery itll just go to the bootloader just try an ruu thats probably your best option at this point.
Yeah make sure you very gingerly and accurately press the proper buttons.

hey guys,
thanks for the post and the info. I am hoping I can get some help. I recently upgraded to a new ATT - HTC Vivid. I guess I was impatient in wanting to root and flash ROM so I used the [TOOL] HTC Vivid All-In-One Toolkit V2.2 to "un-lock bootloader" and get root. Afterwards I realized the phone had/has old software/rom (no ICS beats audio etc) - I tried updating the software manually and it would not take - kept getting error messege. Then I got notification that ATT/HTC was trying to "push" the update to my phone but when I tried to install the update it would not work. I keep getting what looks like a dead android with chest open with red exclamation point. I tried a few times and still nothing. so after some research I came across this thread. I am still a "noob" at this I guess so I could really use some help, please. I believe I have to "re-lock bootlaoder" but I am confused as to how to go about this. for example, how do you, "TRY FLASHING THE WCXRECOVERY.IMG USING FASTBOOT FIRST?" - please help! lol like I said - I'm still a noob I guess
I tried the video but it only further confused me

please help!!!! I really need it. I tried using your tutorial to re-lock my Vivid and update ROM to ICS. I got through the first part where I re-locked the phone ut when I got to the part to "unlock" again before flashing recovery I get the "Unlock bootloader" screen and I use volume button to select yes and hit power button but that's it - it's stuck at that scree and will not go further. now my phone won't start normally if I try etc and I even got a red exclamation etc - Please help, I dont know what I did wrong but now I have no phone!!!!!
Thanks a bunch for any and all help
This should probably be in the General forum, not development...
If you pull your battery, then put it back in, then hold VOLDOWN button and the POWER button, do you get into Bootloader mode?
If you can, choose Fastboot mode, and then connect your phone to the PC. (I'm assuming you have the right driver(s) installed so you can issue Fastboot commands to the phone?)
If you've gotten that far, and want to re-lock your bootloader using fastboot, the fastboot command is:
"fastboot oem lock"
Run that in a command prompt window. Make sure you have navigated to the folder that has fastboot.exe, of course. Are you familiar with using command prompt?
Once your bootloader is relocked, you can re-start your phone into bootloader mode, and then flash your stock carrier's RUU using your PC... I hope this helps.

thanks a bunch!!! I'm still a "noob" I guess and I will re-post in General. In the meantime, I can get into Bootloader mode but I am already "Relocked" - from what I understand at this point I was supposed to "Unlock" again and flash recovery using "unlock bin" but at the unlock bootloader screen on my phone after I select yes and press power button nothing happens. my phone freezes at that ponit. I dont know what to do now. any help is greatly appreciated.

I wonder (since you are already re-locked), if you should consider flashing your phones stock RUU (so the phone will be back to stock).
Then unlock your bootloader via HTCDEV again...
Then you can flash a custom recovery, then you can do a nandroid backup of your phone... then you can do your wipes and install a rom?
thanks again for responding, much appreciated. I wish I knew how to flash back to stock. I'm at a loss or stuck right now.I just found the stock RUU and I'm trying to download it but once I get it how do I flash it back to stock? That is actually what Ive been trying to do. You see I recently upgraded to the Vivid and "unlocked bootloader" and "rooted" before I realized I had old software (no ICS - beats audio etc). So after some research I read that I had to "re-lock" so that is what I was trying to do before I got stuck. what do you think I should do fromhere? I'd really like to at least get my phone working again with stock even, just working.
thanks again,
Rafael

OK. So since you are relocked, you should be able to flash your stock RUU.
The RUU is an EXE file. Just run it on your PC (with your phone, in fastboot mode, connected to the PC). It will detect the phone and perform the flashes and when it's finished, your phone will be like stock again.
Yeah...just use ruu like you would any other pc program...it will walk you through the steps in the program...
As for beats...I had beats audio on stock gingerbread? Confused why you don't...I only had gingerbread for a couple days before upgrading but I remember seeing the beats icon in notification...

I tried what you said and I got an error message (error 104) and it would not update/flash the ROM. I am stuck.
and when my phone restarted I ended up with the red exclamation point in a triangle again. any more ideas? I hope I did not "brick" my phone.

What is the exact file name of the RUU you are using?
Also, when your phone was working, what was the stock base that it had? Was it Gingerbread? or ICS?
From a quick google search, it seems Error 104 is "wrong hboot version". Interesting... I remember mine said that when I was trying to flash the old GB on my phone which had already been upgraded to ICS.

I tried the old ATT RUU without ICS which is what I had originally and it did not take. I got an error message (error 104). I also did not have beats audio surprisingly enough when I first got the phone which is how I realized I did not have the new/current ATT ROM ICS.

name of RUU I tried: RUU_Holiday_Cingular_US_1.63.502.4_Radio_1.11.1020.03_30.77.551061.02L_release_221238_signed.exe

thanks guys
We really need a mod to move this to the "Q&A" section...
Anyways assuming your on completely stock gingerbread you can call this number *#*#682#*#* that will do a force update...vant be root tho, and can't have an unlocked bootloader
Edit...discard this post just read above about the red exclamation mark...can you still get to hboot? If you can...can you verify that it says "re-locked" at the top?

All that you need to do it boot n hboot then select fast boot and when you plug it in the pc it should say USB next to fast boot then just run the ruu file and it should hook you up with stock ics

I tried running the RUU and it got stuck at 34% for a while. I unplugged the phone to attempt running the RUU again and now all I can get is black screen with HTC and 4 exclamation points in the corners of the screen - please help!!!
please dont tell me I "bricked" my phone.
Can you still get into hboot ? I wouldn't unplug the phone while its doing stuff I had that issue and just stopped the program and tried again , it takes some time to finish approximately 10 min so just let it do its thing . Just fyi

Pull the battery and try again . If that don't work then hopefully some of the more experienced guys can help.

That may help
The exclamation marks are a failed ruu...try running the ruu again...it should still work (I think) if not then try pulling the battery and trying again...
Yeah...next time do not pull the plug, I'm sure its still saveable tho..I've had failed ruu flashes before and it mentions something about exclamation marks in the corners, so Im pretty sure the ruu has a fix for it...if I get time ill see if I can get that info from a ruu...

[Q] Bricked HTC ONE 802w, hope not?

... well this is what I think. But I am newbie.
I bought this one in China due to double sim card and micro SD memory slot.
but as in Chinese (Weibo form China Unicom, please correct me if not..), I wanted to root it and install Google Play things because I can't read Chinese even in HTC Market, and customize the blink feed etc.
I read and read and found a way to make it happen, with Moonrise.
After unlocking from HTC dev, I realized it was not S-off.
So no way to install whatever even through TRWP or CWM.
So back to step 1 for starting up again, regarding S-OFF.
Launching distiller.exe (from Mooshine), all passed more or less ok with some reboots and suddenly a "press ENTER" with a warning not to drink.
Drink?...
Er... Well, OK, this maybe some local humour... (I am French (...nobody's perfect) and I may have not catch this.
But now i am stuck on 1st screen showing the Weibo Logo (Orange logo on white screen), not moving and no chance to load anything,
Try to reboot:
POWER + VOL.DOWN just makes blink the 2 logos down on screen ('<' and 'home' or 'house' logo... even holding for many seconds
(and seconds are long in France...).
I just can see phone starts to be hot when touching it, and me too, feeling hotly... stupid!!!..
This was working not so bad finally and I think I just screwed it...
Really ?
It there someone here that feels that I am just missing a small tiny little step to move forward?
Maybe should i have had checked this could work with Chinese phone...
Anyway, any help for beginner is very welcome then.
It's the wrong thread. This thread is for the Sprint version. I'm not even sure if your phone is a genuine or a fake. You should try some other forum. The only advice I can give you is to try keeping pressed the power button with some bright light in front of the light sensor. This should reboot the phone. If you can get in bootloadet your phone is not bricked

No offense... it is just that I succeed to be under the HBOOT. But before I get stuck again I'd like an advice.
Because it is just like I was waiting for 3 days until I could make it and patience is not really a 2nd name...
I can read :
HBOOT (selected)
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY (selected)
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
IMAGE CRC (???)
SHOW BARCODE
Looking forward to reading you.
Thanks anyway.

I am not sure what you device is. You should tell me what your device model. It's written in bootloader before the hboot version. Or you could just take a picture of it and post it here. I don't know why moonshine didn't work for you, but it could be that it wasn't for your phone model or your hboot. Can you go to recovery(just use the volume buttons to move and select it with power button)?

I had put a picture in attachment.
Follwing your instruction, it just displayed "entering recovery" and I have new screen, with menus and so on...
and it says this is TRWP!!!!! :highfive:
Waow ! So great! I hope I can continue but I prefer to wait your advice...

You can try if your device boots to system. Select reboot than system in recovery.
If it gets stuck on the boot logo again: I found a custom ROM for your device http://llabtoofer.com/2013/07/23/htc-one-dual-sim-maximushd/
You have to sideload it. Here's a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317989

Hello elvisypi,
YOU JUST ROCK!!!! I followed your instructions regarding custom ROM and sideloading and now the phone works just great.
I can have it all in French for all menus (international languages can be selected).
A 1000 of thanks for your great help as phone is working perfectly and! :victory:
A question btw:
Phone tells me there is an update from MaximusHD 1.0.0 to 1.0.1.
So I downloaded it but when mobile reboots it goes into TRWP...
So I am not so sure of the procedure to follow regarding the update...
Maybe should require not to update? or either select other menu than fastboot?
Or let it in the state of the art as working perfectly (homoeostasis attitude...:cyclops
I am glad I helped. I saw on the thread:
After installation you will get 1.0.1 OTA update. It will be downloaded in download folder at internal storage. You have to install it manually!
So selsect install from sd card and than go to downloaded folder. Flash the file
Please post in ROM thread or in the One general if you have further questions, cause this thread is only for Sprint

Need some help with my HTC One

Hey guys,
Long time lurker and only been doing the whole rom thing since I bought my HTC One last year.
I've been happy and enjoyed the phone.
Through a drunken stupor last night I made some mistakes and need to get the phone back in action.
I don't believe that what I've done to it has bricked it.
However, it is currently inoperable.
I'll try and break down exactly what happened and what I've done in the past few days that have caused this mess.
Thanks for your patience and understanding and most of all help up front, it's much appreciated.
So here we go!
I've been running an antiquated version of Viper ROM for the majority of the last year.
At this point I'm not even sure the exact release, though I believe it to be 5.6 or 5.7...
Having said that I went and updated finally and was able to successfully flash 6.20, and the OTA that followed.
My phone was running fantastic at that point and was super happy at the new features, etc.
Silly me, I had to believe that USB Fast Charge was not only a privilege but a necessity.
In my hazy recollection of mishaps I went ahead and tried to boot into recovery and flash ElementalX .17 on top of Viper.
Flashed with v2.6.3.3 of TWRP and things went smoothly or so I thought.
After successfully flashing upon booting I was hit with a black screen and only the capacitive buttons being lit.
In my rage and frustration I tried several things and it wouldn't boot.
Stuck in a loop.
So I did the stupid mistake up restoring a super old back up on my phone...
On top of that I messed around and thought I could some how bring it back to the dead.
It was my original Viper installation from all that time ago and this time there was absolutely no connection to WIFI.
The 6.20 version had been cleaned off the phone and now I'm sitting here at TWRP v2.6.3.3 wondering what to do next.
ADB is responsive, but drag and dropping files into the HTC One on my Windows Explorer has proven unsuccessful.
I'm going to post my basic related stuff below.
Let me know if any type of picture upload or what not will help in the process.
Thanks for being there XDA!!!

Please post a fastboot getvar all (except imei and serialno). That way we can take a look and see if there is a RUU available, that will reset you back to stock.

Turn phone completely off. Then press and hold the PWR button + Vol Down button, it should boot into bootloader. Select Fastboot the screen should change to FASTBOOT USB, now try the commands.

Ouch, maybe I did brick it after all.
I'm doing as much research as possible from my end.
Thanks for being patient with me.
Hopefully I haven't bricked this thing.
I've added my thanks to your posts thus far for your assistance!
Cheers and a few more energy drinks and maybe we can get this thing going again, lol!

Here is an AT&T RUU 4.18.502.7. In order to run it you will need to lock your bootloader with the command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Are you using Win 8.1? If so, fastboot will not work with a hboot 1.44. You need Win 7 or Ubuntu/Linux. You can run Ubuntu on a USB FAQ Q#5 and you would not have to install it on your computer.

Will I still be able to lock my bootloader with it being unrecognized?
It's worth a shot!

If you use Ubuntu, you just need it to lock the bootloader. You will need go back to Win 8.1 to run the RUU.exe. Ubuntu can not run .exe files.

This is a long shot, but run the RUU anyway. It should fail but it might reset some things to allow the PC to recognize the phone.

How can I get the RUU on the phone though since it's unresponsive.
Do I need to push it somehow, or sideload...
What would be the best method to approach doing that?

With the phone connected to the PC. Double click the RUU file. It will start and walk you through the process. Some people have found that the file should be in the adb folder.

Device is recognized again - went ahead and dragged and dropped Viper Rom 6.0 onto it.
Right now it's flashing it and looks to be working smoothly thus far.
Fingers crossed!

Hboot usb plug

Hello everyone! I would like to chnage the rom on my device, and for that I need to flash the kernel via fastboot/bootloader.
I have a problem. Windows sees my device as an unrecognized device. I don't think that the problem is in drivers because other devices such as Nexus 7 2012 and Xiaomi mi pad 2 work.
When I connect it to the PC on the phone's screen shows hboot usb plug but after several seconds windows says that this device is a unrecognized one and on the phone's screen it is hboot again.
Please help me
P.S unlocked, s-off, cwm recovery, ADB is working fine.
p.p.s I think the probleam appeared after I did the s-off thing
Are you sure your phone is HTC Desire C ?!?!?!
How did you S-OFF it?
If you have access to another computer/laptop, can you install drivers from scratch in there? I guess it's a driver issue (for this specific phone not your other phones!)

What I normally do (if you are on Windows), using System Restore, restore your computer back to a date before this happened. Then I connect my phone and let Windows come up asking for driver, go to Device Manager and choose the folder for generic adb drivers. What I have found working best for me is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790

The problem is that I have changed my pc since this happened. I have a fresh windows install, so this is also a reason that tells me the problem is not in the drivers.
Good news. I have installed lubuntu on a usb flash drive and booted from it. There i installed adb and fastboot drivers, and guess what? it started to work)) finally
I am glad to hear that.
