[Q] A couple questions about O2X - LG Optimus 2x

So bascially last night i installed Rom manager for my phone. From Rom manager I installed CWM
I made a backup in recovery.
I restored my backup( might have no wiped dalvik or cache)
now i am stuck with the lg logo flashing on and off. however i can still boot into recovery.
I dont know if the problem was caused by flashing the wrong recovery or because i didnt wipe the cache
Can someone please tell me the version number of the right CWM for OPTIMUS 2X.
i have 2 backups which are on the memory of the phone not on my sd card.
I need to know how to get back to stock. Thank you.

OK
here is how to:
http://www.modaco.com/topic/335494-...aseband-release-103521-20110725-v20l-version/
When you have smartflashed this old stock ROM, you can use the LG Update tool to get to the latest ROM available to you.
Or you can root your phone again via NVFlash and go back into the Flashing circus.
Always carefully study, what the devs write about their ROMs and how to flash them, there are a lot of different ways to make the ROMs behave.

LG optimus 2x bootloop after failed cyanogen mod

Hello!
Today, i decided to install cyanogemmod on my 2x. So i downloaded ROM manager and downloaded cyanogenmod. everything went fine until i was going to boot for the first time. I got into a bootloop. so i tried taking out the battery and all that stuff but it still would't work. So i tried to recover the phone. I recovered it to a month old backup (I could not find the one i made in ROM manager before i installed cyanogenmod) The recovery went fine. But, when i rebooted it got into a loop on the lg logo! (the one without the loading bar) it would just load the lg logo, be there for like 10sec, then it would do the same. I tried recovering one more time, but it didn't work. The same thing happend. What should i do? :S Should i wipe data/factory reset?
EDIT: My phone was on android 2.3.4 before i download cyanogenmod.
BTW before i installed cyanogenmod, i forgot to clear cache and data. I was in a hurry so i did't notice the screen popping up, I automatically pressed "ok" without selecting anything.
Thanks for the help

Different partitions... Look for something called backtoext3 in the dev section (or somewhere else) The problem is that when you flash a custom rom like CM you convert your filesystem to EXT4, while stock is EXT3.
So basically what you have to do is:
1) Reboot into recovery
2) Wipe everything
3) Flash Backtoext3 zip
4) Restore Nandroid.
This should work. this will take you back to stock.
So i have to restart the phone, Choose wipe data/factory reset, then flash backtoext3 (how do i do it? lol) then restore nandroid (the backup i just tried to restore twice?)

Yes
Flashing backtoext3 is just flashing the zip file you put on the sd card. (and then install zip from SD ) an then restore your nandroid stock backup and you're back on stock.
But you said you wanted to try CM right? In that case, wipe everything (factory reset/data + cache + dalvik) and then flash the CM7 rom and you have CM! Don't worry about backtoext3, your partitions are already on EXT4, because of your prior CM flash.
Ohh! Thanks Can you send the files for cm (2.3.4)? I've found some, but im not sure if my phone is compitable with them :S im really afraid to mess something up again
My. Signature. (CM7 temasek's KANG = the best CM7 at the moment )
I did everything and i got into a bootloop at the skating andriod screen again
OK, restored my phone back... Now it wont connect to the network and the battery has a question mark inside it. It also says the battery level is 999% heelp
Nvm, got my phone back to normal still dont understand why cm wont work...
You need cwm5 to flash cm.
I have a G2x, which is basically the same phone. But anyway, I would recommend nvflashing CWM and not getting it from ROM Manager.
CWM 5.0.2.0 will do just fine, but it is indeed old...
Anyway, are you sure you waited long enough on the CM boot screen? The first boot might take a couple of minutes. (4 or 5)

[Q] Brick GT-i9000, Can't flash rom using CWM

Hi all,
I've searched most forums and google and nothing found that I can use to revive my GT-I9000.
For background, I just rooted my galaxy using
* SuperOneClick and install TB, etc
* Install CWM by using CF-Root (I prev. have Android System Recovery (3e) and so need to follow addictivetips how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000)
* Take Nandroid backup of original firmware
* Flashed CM7 and CM9 back and forth with no issue.
My problem started when I thought I could just use the nandroid backup of original firmware and remove the bloatware, because CM9 is not on stable version yet.
The nandroid backup can’t boot up, so I goto recovery mode and try to reflash CM7 and CM9. The CWM from CF-Root can’t mount the SD card anymore, thus can’t flash the ROM.
I flash the “hardcore-speedmod.tar” from Full_Update_Guide using ODIN and got to the CWM 2.5.1.0 and can see the SD card, but when I try to flash CM7 or CM9, it says “assert failed: getprop (“ro.product.device”) == “galaxys” and a whole bunch of getprop with Status 7 and installation aborted at the end.
This is the same CM7 and CM9 that I used many times before and still in my internal SD card.
I've tried wipe data and cache but doesn't work. Going to Download mode or Recovery mode is not and issue though
I could try restore all from the nandroid backup but it says be carefull, so i hesitate as not want to make it worse. This nandroid backup is also created from diffrerent recovery (created using 3e and now CWM 2.5.1.0 that's running) - Update: took my chance but didn't work as can't mount
I’m not sure how I can copy other files into the internal SD card as well (in Windows).
I’m at my wits end and have search a lot and tried many things.
Please help
Cheers.
John
Try flashing some older stock android version over ODIN first, than root etc all over again. I had a similar problem just weeks ago and it did work for me, after screwing with it for 3 hours... Will search for some links and post them here, if I find them..
Go look in ask me anything I have the answer, there's a basic guide to save your phone, I have used it a few times and I have saved my phone from the situation u are in.
If you like my posts hit thanks
Last post before I go to sleep with a smile on my face.
For those who might have the same problem, below is what I did.
Did the "[ROM][ODIN]noobfriendly stock jvt firmware (root included)" thread to the T and works the 2nd time. 1st try almost killed the phone with BSOD appearring though.
Thanks for the tip jerdms.
IT'S ALIVEEEE.

First of all,u can't be sure not to semi-brick yr phone again and yes u can flash any ICS roms..
But always read the OP(first post's) and last 3 pages in the thread of the ROM u want to flash, first to ensure how to flash without problems and last to read if any bugs is current in the ROM u are about to flash..
ALWAYS have nandroid backup(cwm) and backup your EFS folder(imei)using eg.EFS-pro or nitrality app(save this to your pc or dropbox) from market.
PS..always flash with a full battery
My phone is up now.
i understand i need to install CWM recovery, but last time i got bricked, can you please tell me what to do if i want say this rom:

Read the first post in the thread. It's all there for you. If your phone is rooted and you have CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery) installed, then do this (which is from the first post in that thread):
Reboot into Recovery using 3-button-combo
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition + format /system)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon
WIPE again or Calendar Sync will not work.

cynogen not showin on external SD!!

Hey I have an optimus 2x.
i was running stock gingerbread on my rooted device. the other night i installed rom manger and downloaded CWM straight from there for my phone. it was version 6. something. i booted into recovery. made a nandroid backup(into the external memory of the phone) . then awhile later for some small reason i restored that same backup, which restored but it sent my phone into boot loop. the lg logo just flashes on and off.
i then heard that i may have installed the wrong CWM so i put another version of recovery onto an sd card and flashed it onto my phone.
cwm-based recovery v5.0.2.7
Now i have this recovery but when i try to restore that same backup it restores it really quickly and says it cant find a bunch of stuff.
i tried to put cynogenmod on the sd card but my phone doesnt give me the option anymore to install zip from external sd.
i have been reading and reading. currently i am on your thread called full brick repair.
i just dont know which way to go. i cant even find a stock ROM. the links i found are broken. I am in canada. its a fido phone.
i have tried A lot.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED . Thank you.
Now you have older version, when backup have been made by newer version. You have to flash newer version of CWM and then wipe data, system and restore backup. It will work
If you want to back to stock, use nvflash toolkits that are floating around here.

The reason i installed the older CWM is because my phone kept bootlooping after restoring the backups
ANYWAYS, i manged to flash the latest cm10 andGapps on my phone. its a bit laggy
what i am trying to do tho is use setDNS an app. to change my dns settings in order to get the american content from netflix.
setdns has superuser permisions and all but i still get the canadian version of netflix.
i think its because of CM10, what should i do?

CWM Recovery Won't Install

I'm following this tutorial on how to root my Orange UK GT-I9305 LTE Unlocked phone running 4.1.2.
Everything goes fine with Odin the phone reboots, then I unplug and turn off my phone, and boot into recovery mode only to find it hasn't installed and Android system recovery 3e is still there.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Try another recovery.

I did follow them to the letter, does installing CWM Recovery actually root the phone or is "rooting" the phone a different process entirely that's required for installing CWM Recovery?.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE
Model Number: GT-I9305
Build Number: JZO54K.I9305XXBMF1

All depends upon the package but most CWM are root and recovery .
TRYhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953
Ended up using Auto-Root which seemed to work no problem.

I initially had a rooted stock ROM that i was using for ages then upgraded to a custome ROM but for personal reasons decided to go back to stock.
Loaded stock ROM with intention of rooting only to get rid of bloatware, but not one of the ODIN Flash recoveries work at all, not one, so like you ended up using CF Auto and that worked but now im still stuck with Stock Recovery. I dont understand why none of the recoveries flash when they did before.
Cheers
trouble with cwm/ twrp
Hi all. Yes I'm a noob and I wouldn't ask If hadn't tried a plethora of ways to install either cwm or twrp.
It took me a good hour to find this thread so hope I'm in the right place.
Ok I used odin to root and cwm didn't stick so still on stock rec. However I used framaroot to get super su working and titanium says I'm all rooted up. Other apps only for root also work.
I've since tried using goo manager and Rom manager to install cwm or twrp and both say unsupported.
I've searched these here threads and found a few with same problem namely when using odin cwm wont stick and android reinstalls stock recovery.
So I'm a bit stuck, I'm rooted but have no cwm or twrp.
Any help would he much appreciated.
Try Philz recovery .
I have never used a custom recovery on this phone but i think i read somewhere that when flashing by odin the thing to do is not let odin reboot the phone. untick the reboot option. then when odin is done flashing and says pass shut down the phone . dont let it boot up.once phone is off you can boot into recovery by vol up+hom+power Here is the tricky part. as soon as you see the white samsung start to load aka bootloader screen release the power button but continue to press volume up and home. you should see the circle with the hat symbol. and enter into clockworkmod once in clockwork mod you will need to wipe data cache and dalvick DO NOT WIPE SYSTEM then flash a custom rom zip that you have previously copied to either your extsdcard or sdcard0 at the same time you probably will want to flash gapps as well. the thing is if you boot up before entering recovery . the default native recovery from samsung will take its place back. maybe it is easier to just flash rom manager in the play store. flash clockworkmod and then boot into recovery from the app itself. I9300 is supported . dont know about I9305
thanks !

Thats exactly how I understood the cwm not sticking problem. I have tried rom manager and said not compatable with my device as did goo manager for twrp. I think odin is the only way I get it to stick. So il flash in odin and il try to get into cwm as it boots and wipe those two files you mentioned.
But then can I just boot up as normal ? or will android try to reflash its stock rom ? Damn my phone for being so difficult
I only ask because I haven't decided what CR to use yet (or even looked for any). I was gonna get it all ready first then learn how to install a CR - 1 thing at a time i thought.
Anyway thanks for your help :good:
JJEgan I found Philz thread to be helpful but something I feel Im just not ready for. Im new to this and although the updated cwm looked cool there were just to much going on, maybe for a later day.
Thanks all the same :good:
wiping data plus cache plus dalvick cache is done to prepare your phone for the custom rom that you are going to flash. the wiping is to clean those partitions because if they are not erased you will have problems. especially if you go from one android version to another or touchwiz to aosp. it is done so you get a clean install with minimal issues. if it is not done you will most likely bootloop. effectively it is a factory reset. all of your apps and app data will be gone so you do not want to do that unless you have backed up your apps . however sometimes google automatically installs them after you sign in.
I am not sure why clockwork mod does not stick but if you copy the rom you want to your phone install clockworkmod with odin and then use clockwork mod to flas the rom and gapps package then factory reset you will not have the stock recovery anymore. but this has to be done without booting into android stock . PLEASE FOLLOW THE FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. AND UNDERSTAND ANYTIME YOU FLASH OR MODIFY YOUR PHONE YOU VOID YOUR WARRANTY AND POSSIBLY CAN CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE. BEST OF LUCK!

Also philz recovery is highly recommended
HERE IS SOME VERY GOOD READING http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362743&highlight=philz+recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344125
think I got it lol
Ok that's sounds good. However I've just read the threads you linked and now I've got to back up my imei and NV files first or il loose them when flashing. The procedure is all there and seems doable for a noob but i read some peeps are having trouble just doing that. I really wanted to root/install a CR regardless of the troubles cos I want full access and more importantly want to learn all the ins and outs so I can get the best use from my phone so glad I found this forum cause I'm sure I would have bricked my phone otherwise.
Might I ask if I've got this right tho?
1: backup imei/NV files
2: use odin to get cwm to stick using your method
3: boot into cwm to wipe data/dalvick cache and gapps
4:use cwm to flash a CR
5:factory reset
I think that's right?

4 IN CWM RECOVERY WIPE DATA, CACHE , AND DALVIK CACHE
5 IN CWM RECOVERY FLASH ZIP FOR ROM AND FLASH ZIP FOR GAPPS "GOOGLE APPS"

7 IF PHONE DOES NOT BOOT THEN IN RECOVERY WIPE DATA AND CACHE AND DALVIK AGAIN
8 STILL NOT BOOTING FLASH ROM ANG GAPPS AGAIN
NOT BOOTING? RESTORE NANDROID
FACTORY RESET=WIPE DATA AND CACHE
DONT EVER WIPE SYSTEM UNLESS YOU HAVE A RECENT NANDROID. NANDROID IS GOOD BUT THE OLDER IT IS THE MORE LIKELY IT IS TO GET CORRUPTED
ALSO IF YOU GET FORCE CLOSES FIXING PERMISSIONS USUALLY WORKS FOR THAT.
SOME ROMS ARE FLASHED IN DIFFERENT WAYS .ALWAYS FOLLOW THE DEVELOPERS INSTRUCTIONS
i had the same Problem before.
I Just disassembled the battery after a full-wipe for few minutes and it works... i don't know y, but that was the only way... ?!
brilliant thanks!

Thank-you for all that,I really appreciate it.
Can I ask the difference between the apps nandroid manager and titanium? I've backed up with both and wondered if i really needed to? The nandroid backup was nearly 3gb!
Also I was gona backup with qpst for imei and NV files but then read its only for US versions? Will the backup of efs folder include those?
honestly i really dont know what the differences are. l do not use custom recoveries or custom roms. i dont use titanium backup .Any rom I flash i get from sammobile.com. one reason i do not use custom roms is that none can support mhl. I use a monitor and bluetooth mouse and keyboard . without mhl I cant mirror my screen so i always stay with stock roms. i use Xposed framework for modifications.
