Hey guys, I just bought a Galaxy S 3 SCL21 here in Japan from AU KDDI. It is the 4G LTE, 2GB RAM variant.
So far I have not been able to find a rooting method for this phone. It is currently running ICS 4.0.4 build number IMM76D.SCL21KDALJD.
Any help is appreciated.
I think that's not i9305!

Hello,
I'm with you in the "SCL21, I need help" department. Some info for you though, the international versions are in fact, very different. and the docomo version is too. DON'T use the docomo root method, it will brick your phone.
you can, however use the TeamEpic CWM recovery method. or the Mskip's Toolkit method. I've used both, and it flashes just fine. The problem I run into, is when I try to boot into recovery...the phone doesn't load. It gets stuck with an upside down SGS III logo. It will load into the normal android though. good luck. and if I come across a good method, I'll let you know. you're not alone.

Yup, I'm there, too. If there's anybody out there with the Japanese AU version that hasn't already made this mistake, it would be great if they could pull the stock recovery from it with Odin... maybe if we had that, we could revive ours. I can still get to download mode, so there's still hope, right?

You might try the following links to restore your phone. I am looking at getting the same phone this month or next, so very curious if anyone succeeds in restoring.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23188887&postcount=1
The second link requires an unmodified phone, so you might have to ask around your network and see if anyone can help. Good luck!

If you happen to be able to restore your phone and wanna give it another crack. Maybe try the CWM all variants tar and see if it gets you any further. Unfortunately I can't post outside links yet, so you'll have to google for it!
Make sure to follow the directions! ;-D
If you guys are wanting to try other cwm root methods, I would choose one of the Qualcomm S4 root methods, namely either the Verizon, Us Cellular or Sprint as those would be the closest to this model. I would certainly doublecheck the partition table first though.
Oh, and if/when you guys do get root, would any of you mind pulling your radio partition? I'm curious about something with it.
Edit: Scratch that. I'm heading over to Samfirmware.com for the files, if you need to ODIN to stock, head over there and you can pull the files to restore your device.
SCL21 Conflicting reports :/
Hi everyone,
I just got the SCL21 about two weeks ago. I think it's really strange that even on the Japanese forums, there is very little info on rooting this model. From everything I've found, some Japanese sites also both say it's OKAY to root using the Docomo SC-06D recovery and Superuser zip while others say that it's NOT safe to use that same method and it will result in a bricked phone. Really odd, conflicting messages!
I know that some people successfully rooted by flashing the SC-06D custom recovery and then Superuser zip. But, it it also seems like many have ended up with a bricked phone while using this "Docomo method". I tried Bin4ry’s Root and Restore v30 but no luck installing Superuser after the ADB push from the Windows command prompt completed.
I just found the Team Epic CWM recovery method but according to Bopatriot, it flashes fine and then won't boot into recovery. Anyone have any ideas why this model phone is so difficult to root successfully?
Thanks guys!
Any Luck?
I was able to find a post somewhere about the stock rom for it that works with the SCL21 phone but, it was still 4.0.4(epic fail). Anyone have any luck finding 4.1+?
Repeat this is I9305 forum no information on other phones .
Try sammobile.com
4.1.2 was officially released for this phone just this week. Grab it OTA or from SamMobile and flash it.
If you need to root, the SC-06D method works fine.

I have the S3 Mini for Verizon (SM-G730V)
I rooted my phone a while back but my phone updated this month and it automatically unrooted. I tried using Kingo to root it because it had worked previously but I got an error saying "NEEDROOT"
I've been searching for a program ever since, but every one I've tried doesn't work. One even hard reset my phone
Does anyone know a root method that works for my phone??

why not just flash a custom rom with odin? you could try cyanogenmod though the 11 version maybe has hard battery drain. carbon should be fine though! then you also have kitkat 4,4,2

Flashing ROMs thought Odin is inconvenient, I'd prefer to just root the phone for ease of use.
I think I found the source of the problem:
When I was using vRoot, it said that I didn't have 'root permission' and gave me a how-to in order to solve that problem. However it was in Chinese so I couldn't figure it out. Is it possible that I just need to find a way to get root permission for my phone? How do I get permission?

The English version is a little broken, not all of it is in English. I'm talking about the app they have for the phone. I downloaded it and it said it couldn't root my phone (at least that's what I think it said it was all Chinese) and it gave me a list of instructions I couldn't understand. I already tried the English vRoot and it didn't work.
IMHO best way how to root your phone is by flashing custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) via Odin and then by flashing root binaries from recovery.

Can you explain how to do that? Or provide a link that does?
I've updated my previous post. Download some custom recovery and flash it as pda, then reboot into it by pressing vol. up + home + power and finally flash zip with root from recovery.
and after you have custom recovery it's also super easy to flash .zip files with recovery only (not odin) so then you can flash custom roms .zip's

Try using Unified Android Toolkit and simply following the on screen instructions.
I am having the same issue with my wife's phone. Rooted once with Kingo but she accidentally accepted an OTA update and we lost root. Now Kingo just says "Root failed."
Verizon has locked the bootloader on these phones so that it is, AFAIK, not possible at all to flash a custom recovery. I have plenty of experience with CWM and TWRP from my own two previous sammys (Epic 4G and Galaxy S4, both on Sprint). If someone here (with a VZW model) has experience otherwise, I'd love to hear about it and how you got around the lock.
Downloading Unified Android Toolkit now and we'll see how it goes, but it is not looking good.

Well, that lead me nowhere. It comes up with a list of S3 Mini model numbers that does not include Verizon's. On top of that, AVG said one of the executables was infected with a virus (a warning which I bypassed in order to test).
Any other suggestions?

Trying now, but it doesn't look good. It's been stuck on "Testing adb usability" for ten minutes or so.
So I am now noticing that any time I plug this phone in, during the "Found new hardware" for the ADB interface it is telling me that my new hardware "might not work." This does not happen when I plug in my S4. I'm wondering if VZW has done something to block ADB access...
I've backed the phone up with Kies and now I am thinking about a factory reset before trying again. I just don't want to make things any worse, knowing I can't simply Odin the stock image on this phone.
Any other recommendations?

Update: on retry, I got past this spot, but ultimately the root failed and it told me the model was not supported.
Kingo gets further than anything else I've tried, but eventually fails with the error "NeedRoot." Ironically.
I'm going to try a factory reset. I am wondering if the fact that SuperSu is still in ROM is what's tripping Kingo up. I can force stop it and "turn it off" but, of course, without root I can't actually remove it from the ROM.

That sounds plausible, factory reset might help avoid the issue, but if SuperSu is installed as system app (normally the case), it might in some cases still be there after a factory reset.
I'm having the same issues. I have tried with three different cables, using three different programs. Do you think it's because I don't have three original cable I only have moto ones? I can reset using kries so it's not like the computer doesn't see it

Okay, so I finally decided to ditch AT&T and go full Paranoid (This is not my first flashing attempt with Android devices). Got the latest version, etc. Load into BootStrap and wipe everything. Go to install PA and for some reason I had neglected to tell my build.prop (ro.product.device/name) is supposed to be "jactivelteatt"/"jactivelteuc" and not "SN-M9009". So when I started the flash process, immediate error and now I'm stuck with a phone with no OS or bootloader and can not, for the life of me, find a ROM to flash with .MD5 or .TAR that will work with ODIN. I did find "Oneclick_I537UCUAMF1" that gets all the way to the end and fails. Tried multiple times with multiple cables.
Please if anyone has any idea's, please help.

Oh god are you on the US version (SGH-I537)? If you're on the international version (I9295) ignore this post but otherwise, you need to read and take in my short rant. Trust me I wish this weren't the case, but it is, and it's important:
The Galaxy S4 Active i537 has a locked bootloader. There is no way around this, no ifs ands or buts. You simply cannot flash custom ROMs or recoveries. That's it, end of story as far as CM, CWM, AOSP and such things are concerned. That being said there is a sort of recovery called SafeStrap which you can use to make nandroid backups, flash mods and STOCK-BASED roms, but it's not a true custom recovery in the sense that we had been used to, because of this locked bootloader nightmare.
OK so I think you're gonna want to check out this thread. It's all about how to install any firmware from download mode, I think you're gonna have to go with NE3 or NH3.
Let me reiterate. NO CUSTOM ROMS. NO CWM. No Paranoid, no cyanogenmod, no AOSP, no crossing go before going directly to jail. Sorry for the stupid joke but seriously, you have got to keep your phone on stock-based roms (of which there are unfortunately few).

Okay guys, I just got a brand new tmobile note 4. Tried rooting it but something went wrong...
Didnt make a backup either so hopefully you guys can help me.
I installed twrp successfully...but after installing supersu...kept getting the boot loop.
Decided to give up rooting and go back to stock.
Downloaded the latest 5.0.1 stock firmware for my phone but after running it through odin, it keeps failing.
I don't know what to do.
I didn't hard brick it since i can still boot into download mode and twrp recovery. But i already wiped system so i don't have any OS on it now.
Should i just chance it and try and send it back to tmobile for a replacement?
Any feedback would be much appreciated!

so extracted the zip and put ap in Odin and it worked. but I have no cell signal no lte or anything. it shows att but nadda. did I do some wrong? should I have put all 4 files in the spots in odin?
also I found there is now an oem unlock. does that mean I can unlock this bootloader or get perm root? or twrp?
thanks
You need to flash all of them in the appropriate slots, but you probably can get away with just the modem. That should get your signal back.
Enable OEM unlock before rooting with Kingroot again.
You can't install twrp or supersu as you still have a locked bootloader.

Thanks my friend, you really do help, not only me but a lot of ppl!
I just did all 4 anyways....
Tried king root 4.8.0 and it put a different kind of warring on screen (blue screen over entire tab that read unauthorized software install, go to an at&t store now, or something) that also tripped Knox to = 1 (yes I had oem unlocked).
So at this point I will try anything.......Goin to try king root 4.8.2!
Thanks

I sent my tablet to Samsung Repair a few weeks ago (they replaced the battery and LCD due to overheating /freezing up), and just got it back today in the mail. It had Android Marshmallow 6.0 on it when I sent it to them, when I got it back today it has Lollipop 5.1. I tried to update through system update, and when it restarted to flash the update, it failed.
So I tried to reset it back to stock in the Backup/Reset option in settings and when it restarted to reset to Factory, I got this message :
"dm-verity verification failed...
need to check drk"
So I flashed this stock ROM you provided here, hoping a clean slate would fix the problem, and it flashed perfectly in ODIN. Then I tried to update to Marshmallow again, and after it downloaded and restarted to update it said "FAILED"
I have no idea how to update now.
How in the world does Samsung repair then send back a tablet that can't update!
Can you please help in any way?
I really don't want to send my tablet back for a third time and wait 2-3 more weeks, especially after the Samsung Note 7 recall, probably take months to get back. My wife is still waiting for her Note 5 screen to be replaced and they have had her phone almost a month now.

thx,i update my s2,it's free download.
This worked for me as well; was able to go straight from 5.1.1 (OH2) to 7.0 (QE2) via the link above and Odin 3.12.7. Didn't need to flash any intermediate versions.

Try this
https://firmware.gem-flash.com/index.php?a=browse&b=file-info&id=28744
It's the same firmware as Colins'
I Downloaded The Fw From Sammobile, Yes Its Was Very Slow, Thats Why I Re-upped It Untouched To Androidfilehost, Much Faster To Dl For Others.
Only For Snapdragon Variants, Its The Universal Firmware, Its Free Of Carrier Bloat But Has Some Samsung Useless Apps.
Not For Exynos Variants Like The Sm-g935f, Etc.
MORE ABOUT UNIVERSAL FW READ THIS
The Zip Has The Att Extension But All Universal Snapdragon Fw Are The Same Afaik, It Does Not Install Anything Specific For Att,
Im On Telus/koodo Using The Sm-g935a Without Issues, Shows Lte Signal When On Data Mode.
Idk If Auto Updates Work, Although Update Options Are Available From The System Menu
Instructions:
Dl Zip, Extract Zip, Put Phone In Dl/odin Mode. Run Odin As Admin, And Load Each Cp, Ap, Bl And Csc(Dont Use The Home Csc As I Read Its Fracks Things Up), Just Use "Csc_oym" File In Odin
Fyi. I Used Princes Odin But Failed, Used Untouched Odin And It Flashed Successfully. Was On Nougat 7.0 Sim Unlocked SM-G935A At&t Branded Stock Fw. I Included Both For Your Pleasure.
Afaik It Will Wipe Your Phone, Do A Backup As Needed
make a backup by using adb, search for this method, and a twrp nandroid
always make a backup, and never just one, and save them somewhere safe in multiple locations and clouds, hard drives die all the time

Hi Vincom, yes i have already read the article. the main reason im flashing the rom is because of the hidden DATA icon in the toggle screen. and also i want my phone to have the OREO update as well. this is my first samsung phone. i have experience in flashing ROMs in my xiaomi redmi 1s phone. so im a bit skeptical if i can do this on my own. this odin process is very new to me. so what is the worst thing that can happen it i brick my phone? can i do a hard reset and will it default to the stock AT&T ROM if ever?

odin is as easy as it gets, its made for samsung phones.
safe is to do nothing if ur happy as is.
NEVER EVER USE THE "PIT" OPTION UNLESS DIRECTIONS SAY SO IN XDA FORUM ONLY
read/watch vids on using odin
make a backup by using adb, search for this method, and a twrp nandroid

yes and no, csc controls what bloatware and which settings are setup by default dependant on carrier and country, hence why this is a universal fw and not dependant on original csc files.
if u truly have the att s7edge g935a, which is what i had, then yes.

i finally finished downloading the zip file earlier. i will flash it later after i go home from work. and one other thing i need to make sure. with this Oreo rom, the DATA connection icon will be available in the toggle screen right?
@vincom, this Oreo rom has already the DATA icon to be toggled on/off right? this is one of the reason i want to flash the att rom as well.

I did read all of it but your description was vague on the att part so I didnt know if you modified it which it sounds like its just the 935u firmware and Im not a newb n00b
@vincom, initially got an error sha256 when i started to flash it. and my phone started to boot loop after i use a different odin, the prince odin. but after some searching. i fount out i just need to use the newer patch version of odin - Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD and now im running Oreo on my s7 edge. hopefully this can help others too.

yup i tried that one the first time. thats when it gave me the error message sha256. then i tried the prince odin that gave me the error mmc something.
The author claims performance and battery improvements but has anyone that switched over really noticed that big of a improvement?
I mean i already disabled all the carrier bloat with adhell isn't that basically the same as installing this rom? Does the universal maybe have a different kernal/different system level tweaks?
Bro , what will happen if my unlocked at&t s7edge installing this ? Is there sim will be locked again or not ? Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english...

will not change your current sim lock status, no fw exists that would change it
Thanks
Thanks a lot, this firmware works for me with the 3b patched odin on the first try.
