I was holding back buying the Asus travel cover as months ago there were leaks showing a premium cover from Asus. But after that there wasn't any mention of that cover anymore...will we ever see that emerge or is it dead?
The funny thing is that there are already Chinese copies to be found on eBay which have exactly the same design, but I'm not going to buy a cheap case anymore, after I bought the smart case ultra slim cover which just started to fall apart today. Literally. And it never fell on the ground.
All other leather cases are too fat, and ugly. So does anybody know if the premium cover will be released soon? Otherwise I'm going to get an Asus travel cover.
BTW: what is the slimmest available nexus cover? Besides the smart cover that is. I'm not going to buy that again.
I would look into the Speck FitFolio case. I have always been impressed with Specks quality and the customer service.
Personal experience with the FitFolio: great fit with all the features you would want and none of the bulk.

Thanks for the link, the case really looks pretty nice. But as I want minimal weight I went for the Asus travel case. I want the slimmest design and it doesn't have to provide the biggest safety as I won't be taking it much outside anyway. I only want it to keep it safe from scratches.
But is really a shame that the premium cover never happened.
I also really wonder why no third party just took the travel case concept and put a magnet in. This would be the perfect case for me. Slimmest fit and magnet, but no additional bulk at all.

Like this? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Purple-Ul..._MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item4d08a7e3fe
That's the 'Ebay case' with a magnet that everyone on here raves about, it only lasted me a few months before the plastic started to crack, I wouldn't suggest getting the above unless you fancy getting 3-4 and swapping them when they break

I see, I have one similar to that already, when someone said about copying the design and it being Chinese I figured it would have the nexus logo on the back. I love the functionality of my case which stands in landscape mode up right or flat I was just hoping for some thing that fits more snug around the edges with the nexus in side it, there's a few mm spare room.

I think an excellent option is this combo:
Genuine leather case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008A1XN28/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
With a TPU case stuck inside instead of sticking the Nexus directly to the case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008LJKPHK/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i01
Any TPU case will do I just put that link in to have both items links to products at Amazon.

Not sure if this is correct as GameStop.com is listing the premium covers on their site for release on the 3rd September. Quite a while away. I'll just be getting a cheap case in the meantime.

Agreed. Looks like something for an old Nokia.
Sorry guys, but is it just me or does everyone in this forum have horrible taste? Every case I see is uglier than the next. This is no exception. Why would you want to add so much bulk? The leather and details look cheap.

I would prefer one like the ipad covers. A simple, classy flap across the screen to protect it from the contents of my backpack, briefcase, laptop bag, or pocket. The brushed aluminum sides and plastic-rubber back don't need anything and look premium on their own. Bonus points if it can be rolled up into a stand like the ipad covers.
I'd prefer a good quality plastic case over the PU 'leather' ones. Though there's a thin amount of split hide sandwiched in there somewhere, the textured polyurethane outer coating doesn't look or feel like real leather to me. I think it turns a nice looking device into something that looks chunky and ugly. Also, the PU covers won't wear like leather (which looks better over time). Instead they are likely to delaminate, have the coating flake off, and look crappy.
+1000, those cases that completely cover it in fuax leather. yuk...
I'm waiting for the Asus case because nothing beats OEM. I think my beautiful Nexus 7 deserves something that enchances its looks and not ruins it. I wouldn't mind a leather or faux leather Asus built case either. I think in the time to come we will be seen a lot of accessories everywhere for our device. Don't rush and buy junk.
Both the black leather Apple smart Cover and the Blackberry Playbook Convertible cases are superb IMO.

I actually owned the Playbook and the Convertible case from Blackberry. It was an awesome case and very well made. That's the reason why I prefer OEM. It's always better.

Its an accessories related question and i hope its ok to ask here. I just received my Nexus 7 32GB and loving it! As what i would do usually, I immediately started looking for back cases / covers / pouches for this lovely device and then I tought, does it really need one? The material at the back doesnt look like the one that could easily be scratched. But then I see so many cases around and people using them. Maybe to better protect the device when/if it falls? I dont like folio cases anyway and only buying a back case looks like a waste.
Any suggestions?

It can get scratched. I have mine in a case almost all the time and I found a scratch on mine somehow
While it's not essential, I'd still go with a case, because you just never know what may befall your new shiny tablet. Since a lot of cases on the market appear to be cheap and ugly, buy something that is well built and from quality materials. This may set you back $50 or more, but trust me, it's well worth it. The tablet will just feel better in your hand, more secure, and you won't have to worry about the screen being scratched or it getting dinged on the side.
Ever since I got my Norever leather case I like the way my N7 feels way more than it does without it.
If you're only interested in a "back case" then I would consider the Incipio Feather. Here's my review. The Feather did come with a screen protector, but I'm with the others in this thread and I would just go with a full case to protect the whole thing.
FULL DISCLOSURE: The Feather was provided to me by Incipio for the purpose of review. I do not receive any compensation for my reviews.
Protection required
I would have to agree that i enjoy having my nexus out of a case . I like the feel of the back and for me it would not get scratched as im careful.. But I use it while im out and about all the time.. I have almost dropped it a few times.I think if you drop this device and it hits the edge of bezel The screen will crack. So i recommend having a nice case . For me i have the bobjgear silicone case . It does add bulk and the nice look of the device . But it provices alot of protection.

Well, having dropped my N7 twice, I can attest to getting a case for the Nexus lol. Both drops were from at least 3 feet and the first one went down rolling to the sidewalk from my truck in my Treegloo case. The N7 came unscathed but the Treegloo had an indentation that could barely notice. The second fall was in the garage cement floor. This time the fall was straight down back side down and went SPLAT. I freaked!:silly: and immediately took it out and found it turned on fine and the glass was uncracked. So I went inside and put the N7 down but noticed the cover didn't sit flush like it normally did, so I took the N7 out of the case and saw the backing corners were coming undone and I had to press down to re-snap them back into the corners again.
Now the treelgoo has been semi-retired now that I have the Seidio Active case on. It works because I now also use the Kropsson Aero modded universal car mount and using the treegloo wouldn't work in that case.
Simply... Yes
as in the title yes, I have had a couple of small falls and one or two larger ones, and having the stock official ASUS ones may have saved it a lot of times, so getting any that will have some bump protection is a definite go ahead
call it insurance
I like the naked feel of the N7 in my hand. It's just right. The options available are all over the map. Those folding contraptions remind me of the old paper maps that I could never get right. The armored ones look like two handers and you are going to drop test it because it's a job just to handle all that bulk. I'm going with a leather YooMee pouch [correction: they call it a sleeve] for transport purposes and working the N7 raw.
Noticed Otterbox just announced the Defender series for the N7.
I like Otterbox but $70 is too expensive for a plastic case. Hell, you get a hand made leather Noreve case for $72.

You're right about that. I figure once things settle down they'll run in the $50 neighborhood. Still, as much as I love Otterbox, I'm afraid it will add too much bulk and that's entirely too much for a stand.
I've had all sorts of adventures with my nexus 7, and to be honest back plate is as good as new, the silver border however is a different story.
I went with a Cruzerlite TPU case $19 doesn't add any bulk really comes in all colors with cool design on the back (they are the androids)
I was looking at the 'Nexus 10 Accessories' website and discovered they had found a Folding Smart Cover case. It is one of those generic ones from China, but they seemed quite happy with it.
You can find it on Ebay by searching "HardBack PU Leather Case With Folding Smart Cover for Google Nexus 10"
I would post the link to both but I do not have the permission to post links yet on XDA!

it's exactly the same product but with more colors choices. The only problem is, you have to buy 1 lot.US $219.70 / lot, 25 pieces / lot , $8.79 / piece

It does look very similar to the Ipad one, so similar I am sure they will be receiving a letter from Apple's lawyers at some point, maybe not, but with Apples track record regarding litigation anything is possible.
Anyways, I ordered mine in black and it shipped this week. I should have it in the next 10-15 business days. I will post my impressions of it when I get it.

If you can make a video it would be cool. I think it looks nice but what about quality? I'm thinking about getting one of this cases.
I have 2 concerns about this case.
#1 landscape using the stand, will the flap hang down over the screen or will it stay back behind the tab?
#2 when holding the tab with the front cover folded behind it, will that flap get in the way of your hands in portrait mode and again, will it interfere with the screen in landscape?

#1 If you fold the flap backwards often enough, you can make it sort of stay upright without it falling over the front while in landscape mode. The flap is soft after all.
#2 The flap is magnetic, you can actually fold it backwards and it will magnetically snap onto the folded front cover, since the front cover has its own internal magnets.
Here are some pics of mine to illustrate.
These look cool, but I really want a smart cover that attaches directly to the back of the Nexus 10 rather than wrapping around the sides...

I think we need to protect the device as soon as possible, so I ordered one of this cases yesterday because we don't know when Google or Samsung are going to launch an official smart cover for the N10. If they release an official case soon I'm going to buy it, just if it looks nice and the price is good.
Also, advantages I see on this case is that covering the N10's back you're avoiding:
- Fingerprints
- Attract dust
- Back creaking
I received mine the other day. I must say I am not a big fan of it.
The back holds the device very well, but the front cover just does not feel optimized for the tablet.
It slides around and does not grip the screen very well.
Additionally, if you peel back the screen cover and use the magnet to attach it at the back it won't work on portrait mode. The magnet on the back does something to the magnet unlock and it turns off the screen.
It is a case you could use at home, but I would be wary of taking it out into public, or even tossing it into your bag as the front cover does move a bit and could leave the screen vulnerable.
I have the blurex case as well and I will be sticking with that one from now on.

+1 for the Blurex Case. Minimal, yet gives good protection!
I wonder how this compares to the Slimline that just started shipping. Since these are both intended as front-folding (like the iPad's) and thin covers - which is actually thinner?
http://www.amazon.ca/Blurex-Ultra-G...YQ86/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1355674844&sr=8-3
Does anyone have any impressions of this case, or other cases by this company? Build quality? Thinness?
I am quite happy with this case. Don't get me wrong, it is the same case, sold by various companies from the same Chinese manufacturer, but it is very light, thin, and looks quite good. Can't be beat for the money. I liked so much, that I ordered the same basic case for both my Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Note 10.1
It adds very little heft to the tablet, and holds the tablet very securely

It's a simple case, doesn't obstruct anything. It has 2 levels of stand and I would recommend it if you think you are going to drop and scratch your brand new N10 like I did...
Awesome. I ordered one yesterday with one day shipping. Need it for travelling this Christmas.
Mine doesn't seem to grip the tablet on the two bottom holders.
Anyone else ? A little hard to get on too.
Anyone able to post a video review? Please and thanks!

This looks just like the Poetic case that I got.
If my case didn't actually have "Poetic" branded into the case, I'd think it was all the same company with 1 item under different names.
I have it. Its perfect.. None of the ports (including pogo) are blocked. Does not add any bulk. Has a convenient strap into which you can slide your palm when case is open, allowing single handed operation. Wake/sleep works as advertised. Very easy to convert into stand

I bought itand it makes the tablet that much better, the tablet does slip out if the grooves a little but it hasnt bothered me at all. I just put it back in without even thinking about it. the material feels good in my hands too. Does a great job protecting the tab.
Owned this case for my OG Transformer, got it again for my Transformer Pad, and am buying it again for my new Nexus 10. Love this case.
Hi all
I just ordered a Note 2 and, by all the comments on cases around here, I wonder if I should hurry to also get a case.
But the point is: is it really necessary?
- A case makes this big phone even bulkier.
- A case can compromise ports access, external audio quality and the gps/nfc/... receptions
- A good case can cost a lot of money
- I won't find a case around the corner (at least, here in Brazil). I must buy it online, maybe pay for shipping and wait for like a month for it to come to me.
Hey, I don't want to be critical to the ones who feel important to use a case. Just want to start some discussion here
My point of view:
I'm retiring an old Motorola Defy. It has never used any kind of case or screen protector and its condition is quite good. It is always in my pocket (a lot of times sharing the space with a bunch of keys) and it has fallen to the ground some times, from like the pocket height for instance.
I know the Note 2 is a different phone, so thats the point of the question. I've never had another Samsung phone, so I may not have the right idea about the durability of it.
So, I'm looking forward to your thoughts and experiences on using (or not using) protective cases for the Note 2.
I would prefer not to have one, but I would mostly get one if this really happens that Samsung did a fragile phone and it is important to get external protection.
100% need a case. I got my note 2 weeks ago and bought a genuine Samsung case which is skim anyway. Protects the screen and back from scratches. Plus no case makes it slippery and one drop will mean destroyed phone. Good luck mate!

Hi Brayden87, thanks for the reply.
I've seen the samsung case on the Note 1. It really is slim.
It actually is so slim I wonder it really does protect the phone. Would you say it can make the difference upon a drop?
This is one I would like to get... probably easier to find too.

Very interesting experience. It seems that this phone is really more fragile than my Defy. I don't doubt that, it is so much larger and thinner, it looks like it may brake easily. Its just that Samsung should be salling a phone that is fairly resistant to the day-to-day misshapenings...
But these otterbox are very expensive and would have to find a retailer that ships to Brazil. Can I trust Ebay sellers?
Isn't it too bulky?
What are the least requirements for a good protective case?
Note 2 size is big so I do not want case for it. Only a carbon back cover for better handling and protect camera. When bezel is scratched, I replace it for 5$. Perfect way for me .

You can purchase knock-off Otterbox cases from eBay, as well as others such as the Griffin Survivor case (fake, but still provides great protection) Casemate Tough and the Urban Armor Gear Note 2 case, etc.
Above-mentioned cases have been thoroughly reviewed by the one and only Vectron, and are viewable here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333
I got the body glove tpu... slim and sexy. Dropped my phone about 4ft high and didn't get any damage. Of course could be just luck. Phone is big and slick without a case. I would get a slim tpu type of case if you are worried about bulk. It gives a little more protection than naked.

Hi all
I just ordered a Note 2 and, by all the comments on cases around here, I wonder if I should hurry to also get a case.

For the love of all that is good and holy, get a case. And you don't need to go crazy buying an expensive one or waiting forever for a HK distributor. I own a bunch of cases because I love to swap 'em out, but my go-to case (and one of the least expensive cases I've bought is the Duzign Sentinel from from eBay that I got for $7.00 from a seller named senyx. The auctions are non-stop and I often see them ending at the opening bid of $7.00, like when I got mine. Shipping is free and the seller is in CA, so you get it quickly:

It's been discussed on other threads, but this one has a cool H.R. Giger alien look to it, offers awesome protection, and it has, in my opinion, the best TPU inner layer of any case (it's got a nice thick lip to protect the screen of your Note 2 in case of an unlucky fall). Heck the TPU is a great case by itself, and the outer shell comes with a kickstand for horizontal viewing. the Sentinel is identical to the Cruzer Lite Spi-Force case which sells for about $20. Just don't get the black/white as the white does get dirty pretty quickly. Mine is black on black and besides my UAG and bamboo cases, it easily gets the most compliments.
That is my .02 . . . hope it helps.
Not that it's particularly delicate, but it is particularly expensive.
If you don't buy a case, I expect the first bit of damage to trigger a new thread "Scratched by $600 phone! Damn!"
Hi everybody.
Thanks for all the opinions. These Duzign Sentinel do seem quite robust and not that bulky. The looks are quite odd (comparing to the original sober looks of the phone) but are not that bad...
That is the kind of price I would pay without feeling that I am paying a lot to have a bulkier phone.
I wont bother much if the bezel gets scratched. My main concern is the screen integrity.
I do have one year warranty (which I do not know if covers external damage :/) and, if something happen, I could always go DIY to try to fix it. The biggest problem would be the phone become useless for weeks :/
I do agree that it is important to feel safer with such expensive phone.
At the other hand, is hard to believe that Samsung, which is leading against Apple in such quality fight, still delivers such a fragile gadget and even dont provide a reasonable protection option as an accessory. That is very awkward.
Case-mate Tough seems very nice and is found at US$ 10.99 on Amazon. Too bad it doesn't ship to Brazil.

Any other suggestion of worldwide retailers? Ebay?

Haha . . so true. I know it's dorky, but I remember my grandmother always telling me: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Well, in this case, a $10 case is worth a $100 deductible.

Actually cheaper through Case-Mate because shipping is free if you have Amazon Prime. This other seller requires a $3.99 surcharge. Still, $14.64 is a good deal. Returns or problems would probably be handled much better through original retailer, as well.

Good question. I had the flip case but it sucks and I dropped my phone twice and got two nice dents. I ordered a simple case for like 5 bucks just so the back doesn't feel slippery and what not. I do not use a screen protector, it'll be fine.
I bought the seidio active case and a glass screen protector before I even bought the note ii. This is a very expensive phone, I wouldn't use it and not buy some kind of protection. Seidio has an updated case call surface case but it didn't work with the glass screen protector cause the inside hard case would rub against the screen protector and push it up.The active case work great it's very slim and has a holster. Well long story short, I dropped my phone many times and nothing has broke or cracked. My job is physically demanding and its easy to bump or drop. Alot of my coworkers has cracked screens or has broken there phone.

Hi Brayden87, thanks for the reply.
I've seen the samsung case on the Note 1. It really is slim.
It actually is so slim I wonder it really does protect the phone. Would you say it can make the difference upon a drop?
This is one I would like to get... probably easier to find too.

I think you're confused with another case, I have the protective cover+ and it's probably 2-3mm thick. Adds barely any thickness to the note 2 and looks awesome. Cost me $30. I didn't want a big case and this one is perfect for me. Covers everything you want covered.

just confused with Samsung original cover (which I have seen only on the Note 1)
do you have any link or photos of yours?
Thanks!

It's a nice real world example.

Very interesting indeed. And very nice looking bumper btw. This metallic bumper wouldn`t interfere on the device antennas?
I will consider these as well... I wonder how they compare to full body cases such as Duzign Sentinel, Speck Candyshell or Case-mate Tough.
I didn't feel like I needed a case at all. Till I dropped it. Twice. The rear cover went flying and so did the battery. Phone held up flawlessly, but i didn't like the flying parts. So I bought a cute Incipio case from androidcentral.com
