[Q] Wild child recovery updated now wifi doesnt turn on - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

alright so my htc vivid has the wildchild recovery but is not rooted (i really dont know why but it says it isnt on root checker) and ever since my phone randomly updated its recovery my wifi won't turn on. Im thinking of going completely back to stock and see if it fixes it. Do you guys know any other way?

install superuser app and see if root works after. and you most likely need to flash a kernel through recovery to fix the wifi

Don't listen to him ^^ WildChild's site will give you the best help there.. but you did something wrong... on his site download the instructions and follow them everything works fine.

What? Obviously he is missing the files that flashes with the kernel if it's not working and yes if he followed the guide everything would have worked

can one of you send me a link to the WildChild site because as of right now my browser cannot find it at all. Also i already installed superuser but nothing has changed.

We cannot post the link just google wcx vivid

To the OP what are you trying to do? Please elaborate more. Did you flash a rom and only flashed the WCX recovery? Wildchild always provides the boot.img with his roms that need to be flashed via fastboot regardless if you are S-Off. Are you rooted? I would not flash a recovery until you can confirm root.

Incredible S Root?

I spent literally 7 hours trying to root my phone. I tried Alpha revX, the new superoneclick and this other method. I cant seem to get it. Maybe because I am just really tired but this is getting really frustrating. I managed to get my phone to S-OFF with Alpha rev but nothing else. Anyone have any successful attemps .. please tell me I am dying over here
Thanks!!

AlphaRevX only gives you S-OFF and I believe can now install ClockworkMod. To actually root your existing ROM, use need to flash rmk-superuser-v1.0.0.zip using ClockworkMod.
Ok so not to sound stupid but what do they mean by flash it to your phnne?

In this particular case, Flash = Use ClockworkMod to install a zip file that you have copied to your SD card.
So the order here is install clockwork mode first in order to root.my phone ?

Sorry, I thought the current version of the AlphaRevX software allowed you to install ClockworkMod, too. If you didn't install ClockworkMod during the AlphaRevX S-OFF process, then yes you need to install ClockworkMod Recovery in order to install the rmk-superuser zip file.
Yeah I can't believe I pressed.no when it asked me to download it. Would have saved me a lot of trouble .. now i am downloading the Android ask and avd manager to door my phone.

I'm not sure it will let you get that far. AlphaRevX will detect that you are already S-OFF and exit the program from what I understand.
Why on earth is it so difficult to download recovery and root the phone. Ive been at this for another 3 hours and got nowhere. I am not a total noob but I am following Alphas instructions and it is saying that my recovery image isnt there when I boot in fastboot mode. Arrrghhhh!
Any other suggestions?

OK, here is a thread that should be able to help you:

If you notice, the OP of this thread attn1 has an IRC chat room where you can get help and assistance. It is definitely quicker than posting in the forum.

You aren't the first that I've heard of this problem. What CWM are you using? The one I posted earlier today in the superguide (VER2) or the one that was in there before?

slap, there hasnt been another recovery released that i am aware of.
ver 2 of my CWM root was only to root via CWM, it doesnt replace recovery.
This is my first htc and Im not even sure how to flash anything using fastboot. Im so used to booting into cwm recovery and flashing from that. I know there isn't a recovery already built for the vivid but if someone could point me to the right thread on how to get into the recovery Im accustomed to Im sure I could figure the rest out

Ah you are correct, my apologies. Or maybe he's using the other CWM apparently floating around that doesn't have the battery indicator issues .
But my fault, I forgot what I wrote in my own thread! imitenotbecrazy, go to the thread that Pirateghost specified, read up on everything. Also, I have written down some things just in case you have that backup issue. Try this...
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.

Try re flashing the recovery. Find the file somewhere and in fast boot usb in the bootloader flash it with a command prompt. You can find more precise instructions around the forums, but if you can get into recovery you can flash another ROM and should be okay from there. I had a bunch of problems with holics too.
Edit: you might be semi-screwed though. If you can't get it usable through re flashing the recovery you might have to re-lock the bootloader and run an RUU.

I believe i tried to do that. I tried Clockwork recovery and also some i had laying around my computer. I actually re-locked the bootloader then unlocked it again. Im not quite sure what the RUU is, maybe I'm just spacing it out. Anyways, I'm sure somewhere I've miss stepped and could have fixed it. I don't care if i lose data, id just like to use my phone again
Try flashing wcx's recovery. CWM gave me nothing but problems.
The RUU is the factory image that the phone shops with. Just google "xda forums vivid RUU" and you should be able to find it from there. Just follow he instructions in the post and that'll return you to stock. Then you can re unlock and re root from there.

Especially since the thermal daemon doesn't seem to work on these phones, or at least with some of the custom ROMs, so it's possible that if you overclock and overheat, the phone won't protect itself. Just something to consider.
I think if you remove the underclock (these phone come stock running at 1.2GHZ, but it's a 1.5GHZ processor! You can safely run at 1.5 all day long no sweat. I've been running it at 1.5 since day one. Things are plenty snappy at 1.5 in my opinion. YMMV.

It's mostly the handful of sensation ports floating around that have that issue IIRC. The ones based off of the holiday framework are usually okay.
Is there something specific you've gotta do to remove the underclock or is it just setting the kernel to what you want it in the setup?
And yeah, at 1.5 this phone is an absolute beast.

I am pretty sure there are changes in the kernal code that need to be made to allow you to set the CPU speed. I believe the min-max limits are established in the kernel code, and then the running freq is determined by config file(s).
That's why with some kernels you are stuck with one freq, while others are variable between different ranges. I think the kangbang kernel is 2.0GHZ, while some others are 1.8 or 1.7.
It would make sense for the thermald problem to only be happens on Sensation ports, as the thermald.conf still has a note in it about being from the sensation (and modded by good ol' mike1986 himself). I think the problem must extend past the conf file though, because the only difference is in thermal thresholds (mike's version allows the phone to run a bit hotter).
I gotta remember one of these days to replace the thermald exe with the one from the stock rom and see if it will then work...
When it's not working, it constantly polls and poops junk out to the log, and eats up battery like it's going out of style.
what ROM did you flash

Fastboot erase cache command should fix your problem. After that you should be able to boot into recovery after flashing a new recovery.

WIfi not working with Custom roms?

I tried a number of different custom roms now and my wifi doesnt seem to be working with any of them. So i decided to restore my stock rom just to make sure wifi worked at all. It worked fine then, So i tried another MIUI rom and it did work again.
Any help would be great thanks.
Is your device S-Off or on?
If it is S-on you will need to flash the kernel using fastboot commands.
You could also use the <fastboot boot (recovery name)> command as well.

And I would have to do this for every Rom?

Yes its the boot.img, and yes you will have to do it everytime you flash a new ROM as it doesnt flash when you have S-ON. As esloan said, using <fastboot boot (recovery name)> will work. Read the stickies, they will help you figure out all you need. You need the ADB environment setup and such, then just drop the boot.img into the platform-tools (adb root working folder) folder and running that command will make it flash (after being in the bootloader with fastboot usb being active). If this is confusing, just read the stickies . They helped us all once.
Download an app called flash image GUI from the play store. It flashes the boot. IMG on S-on devices without the need for a computer. I've used it a bunch with ease. What you do is DL the new ROM to your phone, find the kernels boot.img with this app and the app will flash it. Then dismiss the app's request to regular reboot. Reboot into recovery and install the new ROM. I've done it many times without an issue. Hope this helps.

For me, Wifi issue with Vivid is something more than rom or kernel version
In "all ics roms" with "all kernels" wifi doesn't work for me. sometimes freezes on turning on and sometime doesn't show available networks
in my previous htc phones like sensation and one V, I had similar problems but it totally fixed with "Wifix" app
but on vivid, there is only one way to make wifi works:
make sure wifi is off
restart the phone
install and activate wifix
restart
and then I can use wifi. but if I restart the phone "while wifi is on", the issue reveres and I have to uninstall wifix and do all above again. so I always have to turn off wifi before any kind of restart or turning off. which is kinda hard. sometimes you forget or some crash happens
I search a lot but others people never report any wifi problem like myself. maybe there is something related to country code or... although we know that htc really messed up wifi with it's ics roms on many phones
anyway, just wanted to share my experience, maybe helpful for others
Thanks for all your help guys I really appreciate it.
I hope I don't hardware issuses but on my stock Rom which is ics it works just fine.
P.s. I just noticed I started this topic under my friends account and not mine whoops.
