Ah crap. Black dots under screen. - Nexus 4 General

Didn't notice it until I turned up the brightness (I just bragged about having a flawless device less than a minute ago) and I noticed dark spots in the screen.
I'm going to call them up and see what they say. Sucks. It doesn't look like much, but it's very obvious when scrolling since it doesn't move with the rest of the screen. Only the circled area is affected. It looks like a dead pixel at first, but it's much bigger and has a "blur" around it.

Pics?

I'm on hold waiting for them to answer, I'll post a pic of it in a few minutes. It's right in the middle of the screen too.

added pic. It's much bigger than the picture lets on, and has a liquid looking blur around it.

No black dots on mine. 16GB received today. Strangely enough, mine had no plastic covering on the bezel, while my friend's 8GB model did (4 small strips, one for each side).

Mine didn't have them either. I was wondering about that when I opened it.
I've been on hold for 30 minutes already.

Got the RMA, I get to keep my phone until the new one arrives, so I am happy. Turnaround should be less than a week to receive the replacement. I wonder if it's going to be backordered...lol

Through Google directly. They are handling the devices themselves for the time being. Not like with the SGN and Nexus 7 devices, where you had to go through Samsung or Asus directly.

Google is probably handling RMA's for now, but later on it will be handed over to LG With crappy support, and they will ask you to pay shipping.

I thought RMA's for Nexus devices were always done by Google?

The RMA process with Google is very good. I had to send two Nexus 7s back and it was an easy process. The only issue I had was that I didn't receive a TNT shipping label with my first replacement so I actually had 3 devices for 2 days while I waited for the shipping label.

You need to return it in "good" condition (scratches are fine, but no cracks). Software wise, mess with it all you want, then
Code:
fastboot -w update "Devices Image from Google"
fastboot oem lock

I don't mean to be an ass but Google better get all those backordered phones out to us before sending out your (or anyone else's) RMA'd phones.

What about the much bigger blurry spot to the right of your circle? Closer to the right edge of the picture. That looks considerably worse to me.

so about my screen...

So pretty much I ordered my nexus 7 right when it was announced, and due to a shipping error Google wanted another 8 weeks to get it to me from release so I canceled my order. Being the impatient idiot that I am I went and bought a new one off eBay. I am aware of the screen separation issue and it seems that it is affecting my unit on the left side of the screen. It annoys me a bit but I'll live. But my question is will the screen separation slowly get worse and spread? I haven't found a very clear answer.
I would say yes. Mine was 100% fine when I got it, 11 days ago and now has lift and creaking. Seems not as responsive. Sounds like bad first batch

Hmm I really hope that isn't the case with mine because I don't think I'll be able to get Google to replace it because I bought it from eBay. I haven't noticed much of change with mine from day one, but it'd be nice to hear responses from a few other people so I know how screwed I am hahahaha

I got 2 defective N7's....returned them. My plan is to wait until the 2nd "batch" with no defects. Maybe in few months, I will try again.
You should probably return and do what I (and many others), are doing. Wait.
My thinking was, I paid $275 for this, and its defective. Did I come looking for a perfect tablet? Yes. Not a defective one. Its really your call, but I can tell you the problem won't get any better.
Cheers
Mine was just noticeable on day one, within days the screen was visibly moving just by handling the tablet.
So there is every chance it will get worse so I would say get it replaced.
By the same token, there is every chance a replacement will have the same problem and just as much chance that you will get a perfect unit that develops a fault later on.
Suppose it's down to what yo are prepared to put up with.
Personally, if it turned out every unit in the world had a problem I would live with it and just try to find a fix but knowing that there ARE perfeclt good units out there makes it harder to live with.
I'm planning on getting a warranty from squaretrade for the tablet. Mine is fine but just in case something develops down the line I like to have peace of mind
Eh. $40 for a $200 device seems a little much.
kinda off topic but
my screen started something very strange today..
it has these little lines about 1/2 inch long running up and down it at random locations. It looks kinda like some type of render tearing. When you twist the tablet from side to side they kinda glow then go away. They look off shades of the colors being produced by those pixels.. I just noticed this thread and thought i would post here instead of starting another Thread.. Hope you do not mind.
Its so faint i cant get a picture of it at all. Sorry about this.. My question is has anyone ever seen anything like this.. It reminds me of the grid if code on matrix but its not that bad . its always at the same position until you power off then they are right back but different / random locations. They are not lined up in any way except it runs same directing. vertically

HTC One with major light-bleed ...

Just got in my dev edition M7 earlier today (04-22-13).
Phone is very beautiful, well built and almost seem perfect until a few minutes ago whiles I was laying in bed playing around with it, when I notice the long light-bleed coming from the lower right corner.
I was like NOO this is not happening!!! After having waited for so long.
It is really annoying because of the length and brightness of the bleed.
Tomorrow I will definitely call up HTC or LetsTalk for a replacement.
See pics.
Hope no one else has had this major defect.

i just checked mine and i do not have any bleed. I also played the HD dark knight trailer and no bleed confirmed. *phew* ....
Did you drop it or bang it against something. In that last picture I can't tell if that's a smudge or a chip in the glass on the edge of the display in the area.
No. All I did was unbox the phone, took some photos of the phone to post online. Then I immediately put it inside a clear case. Next I went through the setup and only when I was passed that I noticed the light from the corner.
It was handled like a new born baby from the moment it came out from the box .

Def get it replaced that's not normal at all there should be no light bleed at all. What is your batch # build date? Should be like FA345 or like SH etc it's on the box that the unit came in on the bottom part.

Time will tell; it looks like more and more people are complaining about case separation issues as they use them for a few days/weeks.
I'll tell you what I saw: a demo at a store that had been handled a lot (no scratches or dents, so probably not abused), but it looked like hell -- the case was coming apart all around the seams!!
HTC has compromised a lot of things in the last couple of years, and I think they have really compromised build quality now. It might look good brand new, but they don't seem to hold up under normal use like their earlier phones did.
We'll see.
Well I got a prepaid RMA from letstalk and it left this morning for Thursday delivery. Lets see how long the wait will be for a replacement to get out and if an RMA depends on preorders vs stock availability.

I did a cross shipment this morning too. Did you get your shipping e-mail? I was told that they wouldn't know when they would ship mine out.
I don't know what a cross shipment is, but the phone was sent back to letstalk today. Process the RMA directly from their website. It's due for arrival on Thursday. Guess until then I wouldn't be hearing from them. But I will call once I know they receive the defective phone.
Just got off the phone with them after waiting over an hour, they made the shipping label yesterday and will be shipping overnight today. So I should have the replacement by tomorrow.
Called a few minutes ago and the lady said they would have to charge me again if they did a cross shipment. In any case there isn't any phones available until Friday she informed me.
Update: 04-26-2013
Was on a chat with rep from letstalk about my RMA, and was told the following ...
Candra: The exchange order will be processed after the rest of the preorders are being fulfilled once the phones are in stock.
Bernard: serious? that's not fair. I had my pre-order from the 6th ... now I must wait much longer because I received a defective phone?
Candra: We still have orders from the 5th that haven't been fulfilled. I do apologize but these orders do need to be processed first.
Well, from the looks of things, it seems like I might get my replacement in a few weeks!

Just got a refurbished HTC One. Everything is great but...

I just noticed I can see PM up on the top right side of the screen and some notifications in the top left corner during full screen apps, especially with a full grey screen. I didn't see those a couple hours ago when I got it.
Did I seriously just burn in my screen already? Is this normal for a "new" One? Or should I be freaking out?
I did nothing out of the ordinary since I got it. Just rooted it, restored apps, put it on the charger for a bit. That's all.
I see 127 views and no replies. No one wants to touch this one lol! I'm taking it back to Sprint in the morning. I shouldn't be getting burn in less than 24 hours into using any phone, refurbished or not.

Yea,i agree, take it back and make them replace it,it should last longer than 24 hours, wether you flash it or not,im upgrading to this from the EVO 4G,in 2 months, but it will be a new one, hahaha,i just cant wait,so i can start to dev for the One now and maybe port over my 4 kornerz rom.
I would take it back as well.
Also, pay attention to the screen. In my One, the speakers busted (same as my OG Evo, Evo 3D and Hero. Htc makes ****ty speakers) I also have a dead pixel so I filed an insurance claim. Today I received the new One and the display is garbage. The whites look dingy and yellow like a cheaper version. It doesn't compare at all to my current One.
I'm gonna send it back and try my luck again =\

Nope. You're lucky then because HTC speakers are cheap and it isn't just me who says so. Here is a quick google search but you can dig deeper and see for yourself. I never really cared because replacing the speaker was easy...but with the HTC One it is a repair nightmare.

I'll halfway attempt to break it down, but I doubt you'll understand.
There are people who break down how difficult it would be for the average consumer to do things such as repairs for these phones (hint:ifixit). The average consumer isn't gonna own all the tools/equipment or possess the knowledge/skill as a professional. This is true in probably everything you'll ever get repaired, otherwise mechanics have been ripping people off for years.
This phone scores as low as possible when it comes to repairs. It doesn't mean that professionals can't repair it. Ifixit isn't gonna breakdown how easy it is for HTC or other phone repair people, why the *@*! would anyone care about that? They are breaking it down for the not so skilled.

I got my phone replaced once already as well, but Sprint said they DO NOT use refurbished phones as replacements until the phone has been released for 6 months.
But what was odd is that my replacement phone didn't come with a box, so I dialed ##786# and checked the "reconditioned status" which stated "none." I wonder if this replacement is not a refurb, then why did it come with no box?

Sprint doesn't handle it, Asurion does. They'll tell you it could be new or refurbished. It all depends on what they have. Both of mine came with a box, but that doesn't mean they're new.

To update, my 2nd refurb seemed nice enough. But after having it a couple days, I've noticed the screen colors are pretty blown out and definitely not like it should be. Colors are as funky as they can be, and the screen itself is way too bright. And for insult to injury, the phone is unable to connect to 4G LTE. So back to Sprint I go!

man... to be honest... I completely understand your felling and frustration... even a small imperfection like this can make me crazy too. And if I buy at a store, it has to be the same type store, meaning if I bought at a corporate store, I have to go another corporate store.
UPDATE: Ok they had to reorder me a new phone (black). It wasn't out of stock so they are going to ship it to me overnight at no charge and will get it on Wednesday. As usual, they are charging me for the new one and will refund the charges on the 1st phone when they receive it back.

Beautiful. So you get a second phone before I even get my first? Sounds good.
They need to make orders upgradeable mid shipment.

I guess I got lucky the 2nd time around.
Not quite sure how UPS works but with FedEx ground it cannot be changed either once it ships. If it was express then they can switch between next day, 2nd and 3 days.

Got my replacement today and I'm happy to report that it doesn't have the same issue. And is perfectly flushed against the glass.

Nexus 6 broken

I'm in bad need of a phone. I dropped my nexus and it killed the screen and the digitizer. It fell from high up probably 7 or 8 feet and landed screen down. It hit on rock's. The device isn't made very well in my opinion. Do not drop it,lol. I called VZW and had them add insurance 'thought I already had it'. I was gonna make a claim but found out that iv gotta wait 30 days before a claim can be made. I looked into Motorola exchange program, but you have to have 500$ so they can hold it untill they receive the damaged device and I don't have 500$ right now so that's a problem. I don't know if I can wait a month on a new device or not. Is there any other options for me to get my device replaced and avoid all this money and waiting? Thanks for any help

You can buy a mint, used one on Swappa for about $270.
You dropped it 8 feet on to rocks, are surprised it doesn't work, and that's why its not made well?
What phones have you had success with in that situation?

Good advice, I'm gonna see if I can go the repair route first then keep swappa open as my last resort.

I have a galaxy note 2 that's been through hell and back and it still works great but the SIM card slot is damaged. The digitizer on the note 2 is exposed but still works great. When I dropped my N6 the rock's were pea gravel not great big rock's. Before I dropped the N6 the usb port was very loose.

Doesn't Motorola have a fixed rate of 175$ or something like that to fix your phone out of warranty? That's still way cheaper than buying 2nd hand...

I was looking on the Motorola website, and they have 2 options for replacing a damaged device. 1st one is the standard exchange were you send in you're damaged device first then they will mail out a like new replacement but it doesn't say anything about being charged a fee. The 2nd one is secured standard exchange, were you provide them with you're credit card info and then pay a $24.99 fee then they put a $500 tax hold on you're card, then they mail out the like new device. Then you have 5 days after receiving you're like new device to mail them the damaged device. Once they receive the damaged device then they release the $500 tax hold on you're card. I like option 1 best. Due to the holidays I'll have to wait untill Monday the 30th before I can contact Motorola about my options.

Wow you drop any phone from that high and about 99% of device will be broken beyond repair. To be honest from your posts it just sounds like you need to be more careful with your devices. I have dropped my device maybe 3 times and not even a scratch. With the right case you should be ok from a height of about 3 feet or so.
Try not to leave your phone in your pocket when you go up on the roof to clean the gutters.
