PURPOSE
The purpose of this thread is to provide XT925 owners with links and instructions on how to install the TWRP v2.2.2.1 custom recovery (touch version).
CREDITS
I take absolutely no credits at all for this. I don't know who ported TWRP for the XT925. All links and instructions come from this post from m.pierce. Many thanks to him/her.
REQUIREMENTS
- A Motorola RAZR HD XT925 with an unlocked bootloader
- Fastboot command line executables for Windows, Linux and Mac
- The TWRP recovery image
- [Optional] The Root.zip package (i.e install this package through the recovery to root your device)
INSTRUCTIONS
1/ Boot up your device in Fastboot Mode (while your device is on, hold Vol-/Vol+/Power buttons for a few seconds until the screen turns black, then release Power. Another few seconds later comes up the boot menu. Release Vol-/Vol+, then quickly press Vol- a few times to highlight "Fastboot" then Vol+ to trigger it).
2/ Back to your computer, make sure your fastboot files and the recovery image are in the same directory in order to proceed with the flashing, then run the fastboot command from a console/terminal:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-hdrecovery.img
That's it, you're done! From then on, you can use the custom recovery to make nandroid backups, install zipped package files, install custom ROMs, ...
For instance, if you want to root the currently installed ROM, you would install the Root.zip package.
HOW TO SWITCH TO THE CUSTOM RECOVERY?
While your device is on, hold Vol-/Vol+/Power buttons for a few seconds until the screen turns black, then release Power. Another few seconds later comes up the boot menu. Release Vol-/Vol+, then quickly press Vol- a few times to highlight "Recovery" then Vol+ to trigger it.
Enjoy!

Maybe you could try to apply CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip. It was reported to work on the official JB OTA.
I love Twrp.
I encountered an error trying to flash cm10 by epinter, but I got a problem " assert error getprop status 7" or something like that. Any idea on what should I do? I Googled and all the answers were "use cwm", but I hate it.
Thanks in advance!

I get the Droid with a red exclamation mark when trying to boot this. I followed the prompts exactly as required.
I have an XT925 running 4.1.2.
Thoughts?

This version does seem to work properly on my unlocked 926: http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/vanquish/twrp-2.4.4.0-recovery-vanquish.img
It can consistently reboot to recovery now without the droid guy and without having to reflash TWRP. It even works with the Quick Boot apk.
For newly unlocked VZW Droid RAZR HD folks (xt926):
I've added the motorola specific fastboot binaries to my goo.im area:
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/vanquish/fastboot
Pick your OS and download the files to somewhere that you can run them from. Then place the recovery file in that same dir. Run the fastboot flash from a command window cd'd to that dir.
Also for XT926 users: I added a new build of TWRP 2.5.0.0 in the main folder for vanquish:
http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/vanquish/
Enjoy.

Hi Hashcode. The 2.5.0.0 does not have the ability to use External SD for backup storage as the 2.4.4.0 does.
EDIT: Sorry, I stand corrected.
2.5.0.0 does have the option to backup to external SD. It's toward the bottom. It's a grey bar that says "Storage: Internal Storage." You tap that and you can switch it to Micro SD card."
THANKS for your support for the XT926 now that we're unlocked!
Additional: I was successful on my unlocked XT926 using 2.4.4.0 to backup existing stock rom, flash a different rom, then restore the original stock rom. I would use 2.5.0.0. but as I said it does not seem to support the External SD card. Also, when flashing the new rom I had to mount /system by checking in off in the settings. I was mistaken. 2.5.0.0 is fine. It does have the Ext SD option.

ensure you have a working fastboot
you should fastboot boot it first prior to flashing/replacing.
you do not need to root your device to use this. if you are using this on the 'v', then you must unlock your bootloader prior.

Hey guys,
Before I get flame at, let me point out a few things
1.) I've been searching throughout the forum in and out to find the answer to my question but I have failed so.
2.) I'm using a custom firmware by nikhil007mmus Jelly Bean 4.1 on my HTC Incredible S
3.) Recently I was curious about new firmware from PACman. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105869
Hence my question is,
I'm using the original ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0, and I found out PACman firmware need to be flash using 4EXT recovery.
I've tried to install 4EXT Recovery, followed ALL the steps provided by alot of people, but everytime after finished installing all the settings and configuration, when I boot up my recovery it is still on ClockworkMod
Why is this so? What did I do wrong? D:

You need to have adb and fastboot installed in your computer.. if you are using windows you need the htc usb drivers as well
are you on windows?
Just install the 4EXT recovery app from the play store. Follow the steps and it will flash it for you.
Is your device unlocked?

Download the recovery zip file.
extract the recovery.img file and place it in C:\android-sdk\platform-tools\recovery.img
Open up command prompt and type:
cd \android-sdk\platform-tools
Now, make sure it detects your android:
fastboot devices
You'll see a line with a serial number, you're good to go (remember you need to be in fastboot mode while you do all of this, Vol. Up + Power while off)
Now, just flash the recovery.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Would this work on the inspire 4g. IV tried flashing it from the app didn't work so now I'm here using the search button. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply again lol,
and yeah I've flashed it to a custom rom lol.
By downloading recovery zip file you mean going into 4EXT website and download it down?
Once I extract it out, I need to put inside my phone's SD card right? I'm pretty lost at this part now.
I got how you mean by doing all this in the fastboot mode (The white screen with lines of words and THREE androids below the screen, correct?)
And I'm not sure about flashing the recovery.img, oh god..

In the bootloader go fastboot USB, I think you need debugging on but not certain. Then your ready to type command.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Connect your phone to your computer via usb (Make sure usb debugging is checked on the phone)
Open a command prompt window
type the following
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Oh okay sweet, so I still need to go to 4EXT to download the file first before proceeding right?
No need am attaching the latest 4EXT TOUCH Recovery Zip file
Extract and follow instructions above.
Also dont forget to check the md5 of the .img file. You brick your device if you flash a corrupt recovery
If it works click "Thanks"
Please report if it works and if it does..please edit the title of your thread and added a '[Solved]' to it in the begining

These steps are manual steps on how to do them and if u just want 4EXT Recovery, then you can download the 4EXT Recovery App. The app will download the proper files as well as flash the recovery once the download is finished.
OUYA Safe Recovery v1.0.0
Because the OUYA lacks a hardware recovery button combination.Purpose
To create a safe environment where the end user can flash their OUYA with confidence.
How This is Achieved
By switching the roles of the boot image and the recovery image, the user is presented with a customized recovery before entering the actual ROM. This gives the user a failsafe before they start to flash their OUYA. This way if something were to go wrong in the flashing process, the recovery image is still in tact and the system can be restored to a working state.
Features
Custom font size that looks better on HDTV's.
Custom color scheme that matches that of the OUYA theming.
Custom reboot options.
Installation Methods
Method 1 - Computer
Simply download the archieve containing a script that will flash your OUYA. Follow the on-screen directions based on the OS your computer is running.
Method 2 - Recovery
This method is a little more dangerous, but if you already have Clockworkmod Recovery installed on your OUYA you can flash the specified zip to install OUYA Safe Recovery.
Downloads
Computer Method: Ouya Safe Recovery Installer v1.0.0.zip - 16.08 MB
Recovery Method: update_v1.0.0.zip - 6.93 MB
Source and GPL
The source for this project is quite simple, but will continue to evolve over time. If you are interested in taking a look at the required source code or compiling your own Safe Recovery binary, you can find the requested material here.
Credits
Credit to koush for maintaining ClockworkMod Recovery which this recovery is built and compiled from, and to mybook4 for the original CWM port to the OUYA.

If you like the work that I am doing and would like to send a donation my way, please feel free to do so, even though it is not required. Every dollar is appreciated, and will go towards future development costs.

Will we be able to install Cyanogenmod 10 with this recovery? Or will we need to replace the boot.Img in the zip so it will gflash correctly without having to use fastboot?
Edit: Where are my manners, AWESOME! Thanks for the recovery! I remember you talking about it in the Cyanogenmod Thread and I didn't expect it to be made so fast!

So I'm guessing all of the roms need to be updated to install to the recovery partition instead of the boot partition?
Hi, you have done A Great Job, i flashed (via CWM) the recovery and Its working, i also flashed boot image (via Fastboot) and its booting.. Everything is working, we are safe Now!!! Finally!!!! Thanks to you!!!
This should be in Xda Portal!!!!
Only one thing remains what should we choose when we are asked to disable recovery flash... ?
Tried the installer from windows and it reset the ouya and booted back into the ouya launcher? Am I doing something wrong? So far im rooted and adb is working as its sending the files to my internal SD Card. Driver is installed correctly on the pc. Im running Windows 7 (x86).

Does this have any passthrough mode? I mean, is there any functionality to make it automatically boot into the rom by default, and only show the recovery screen if you are holding the power button or some key on the usb keyboard?

The updated fstab should allow for the existing ROMs to flash the boot image to the recovery partition granted developers are writing the image the correct way.

It should work. I don't see why it wouldn't if adb is working correctly.
Maybe a bad download is to blame?

I believe that for koush bootstrap recovery what it does is puts a certain file /system/etc on successful shut down and when it restarts the recovery checks first if the file is there and it moves into normal boot and after that it destroys the file to be rebuilt on successful shutdown.
But if the file is not found it goes into recovery mode

If you still need help, I wrote this guide for you and anyone else who is confused.
Now that you have unlocked the bootloader follow these steps.
1. Boot into the bootloader by pressing volume down + power.
2. Press the power button to enter fastboot.
3. Make sure that beneath the first few lines on the top of the screen it says fastboot usb highlighted in red.
4. Find a version of TWRP, WCX, or whatever recovery image you are going to use and then extract it into the folder on your computer.
5. In CMD, type this:
fastboot flash recovery "name of the file.img"
6. Press [bootloader] to go back to the main menu (without the brackets).
7. Scroll down with the volume button to recovery.
8. Boot into recovery.
If your recovery works, do this to use a custom rom.
9. Go back into the bootloader by turning your phone off and then using power + volume down.
10. Download a custom rom and open up the .zip file. Then, extract the file named boot.img and extract it into the folder on your computer.
11. Enter fastboot and type this into CMD:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
12. Go back into your recovery (following the steps above from 6-8). Mount your internal SD card and put on the file of the custom rom you wish to use onto your storage. Be sure to copy the file in .zip format, not after it has been extracted.
If your custom rom needs Google Apps, then download the correct file which should be specified in the download area of your rom's post.
13. Go back into the main menu of your recovery and then choose the option to flash the file.
14. Choose the file that you have just loaded onto your storage.
15. Flash Google Apps if you need it.
16. Thank me if it worked
works like a charm:laugh:

Yes... But since vivid users are notoriously bad at using the search feature on the website... Or in tapatalk...
We have to have 10000 of the same goddamn thread...

Notes
- The recovery cannot boot if flashed to the recovery partition instead it must be booted via fastboot using:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
- The reason it cannot be flashed is that the bootloader is signature checking the flashed image against Amazon's RSA keys.
- External sdcard is not accessible from the recovery at the moment - will fix
- The touchscreen panel is not usable at the moment - instead use the volume up/down keys to navigate and power button to select
- The volume up/down keys are swapped - will fix this
- Apply update from internal memory and sideload are working.
- This is a basic recovery - it has no backup or restore function
- This does the job until TWRP is available

So what can we sideload and cannot? And the amzn rsa is located in /system/vendor/data. Now I'm wondering if someone still has the rsa bug from the hdx the old one and we can replace that with that file and try unlocking the bootloader.

- Pretty much anything we want to sideload, we can
- I have sideloaded:
Official Amazon Firmware
SuperSU.zip
Modified Gapps Package.zip
Xposed- CVE-2014-0973 (the vulnerability which was exploited on the HDX) is patched in the Fire's bootloader

And the bootloader won't recognise the different Rom? I have heard on some devices if you install a different ROM then it doesn't go past the bootloader.

- The bootloader has no knowledge of the Android ROM AFAIK
- We have to bear in mind that we are limited to the stock boot.img therefore
- Any rom we produce should be based off the stock boot.img
- If we did base the ROM off a custom kernel then we would have to "fastboot boot" the custom_boot.img each boot or reboot - so this is not feasible in terms of user experience.
- On the HDX, when it was a locked device I was able to boot AOSP in this manner

I'm actually interested in that modified gapps package... I'd like to keep the gapps as system apps properly.
Do you mind sharing which gapps package did you use and what modification you did?

- Yes, I'll post it shortly
- I have only flashed it so far with no testing
- My Fire hasn't been online yet because I haven't blocked OTA updates yet
- Will test and provide a link for download
EDIT: Good news the Gapps package works with full play store functionality
I'll upload it and post a link in the General Section

- I started investigating this and Safestrap may not be possible
- Safestrap is usually for locked devices granted, however...
- Even if it were possible our kernel doesn't have kexec capabilities
- As with other amazon devices we really need a way to unlock the bootloader.

you need adb and fastboot files
several options there are some basic information in my Amazon Fire Index
Fire Index: Which Amazon (Kindle) Fire Do I have?
once you have adb setup
boot Fire into fastboot mode: power off, Hold volume down, power on
if it boots to recovery select bootloader
once in fastboot mode check device manager Fire should be listed as Android adb interface
If so you should test fastboot commands with
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
should get this back
Code:
ford
if so
place recovery.img in the same location as listed in command prompt
then boot recovery.img with
Code:
fastboot boot 2015-11-04-cm-12-recovery.img
