For those of you that don't know Bedside,
It is a night clock that turns off all notifications while it's opened. However, if somebody calls you, it will ring/vibrate, or whatever ring mode you had before you opened it. For example:
- You set the phone to vibrate
- Open Bedside
- You get any notification, sms, email, other app, etc.. it wont vibrate or sound, nothing.
- You get a call, it will vibrate.
It has features like:
- TTS (Text-to-Speech), long press anywhere on the screen, and Bedside will say the time. You can enable/disable this on the preferences.
- Swipe Up/Down for Brightness Control.
- Battery Status
- Option not to turn off sounds (Clock Only).
- Ability to Keep Screen On, or just let it off along with your Display Timeout setting (Bedside will keep running).
- 24 Hours Format (TTS will say time in 24 hours as well)
- Text Colors
- Text Fonts (only for the time)
- Subtle Background (optional since it doesn't help with Brightness)
- Flashlight (on the menu, or also you can enable the Show Lightbulb option on preferences and a small lightbulb will show up on the top left corner for easy flashlight access)
As you can see, this app is very customizable and useful. It's $1.49 and available in the market right now.
There's a "Lite" version as well but it's missing many features that the regular version has.

I'd like that. Also (not my idea, saw it elsewhere on the forums), notification icons would be nice. Just little discrete email & SMS icons in the corner, so you can see if something's come in.

that was exactly my idea, i've been implementing sms support in order for me to do whitelists, since i have that I could also put ex "2 unread SMS", however I don't think I can access the gmail unread messages and such programatically, I'll look into that.
Are you the developer? Anyway, be nice to see those features.
I tried all the 'bedside' style clocks awhile back, including paid.. this ones the best.
Yes, I'm the developer
Thanks, I've got some of those features almost done, I'm doing some fine tuning and internal testing before releasing, I don't want any issues like I've had before when releasing "untested" versions....
BTW, this features (and any other new feature) are going to be release only for the paid version... sorry for those that have the lite version, and thank you for those that have the paid one
Need a beta tester, I'm in.
Paid, BTW. I used to really hunt around for the free apps, but seriously.. Few bucks are easily worth a good app.

Thank you for supporting, i know people complain "why a dollar? why not free?", cheap.. lol they spend more buying a coke...
anyways, i've got enough beta tester, like my whole family owns a g1, even my mother, she's become so techy lately its funny. Thank you for the offer though, I'll keep you in mind if i need something.
Status: I did have some problems with the whitelist, I'm showing sms counts and such but when receiving sms's it wasn't very consistent. Still fixing. Will keep you posted
Thanks
Well, I finally made the switch from iOS to Android. But there are a few things I miss about it, albeit little things.
I have no idea what's good and what's bad in the Play Store, what to avoid etc.
I'm used to having notifications on the lockscreen. Yes, I've realised I can pull down the notification bar when on the lockscreen, but AFAIK that's only if you don't have a password/pattern/face-recog.
I've also tried the 'Productivity', that doesn't show Skype messages, Tweets, WhatsApp messages and stuff like that.
I also have a 4-digit pin for my lockscreen, I'm used to typing in the PIN then it'll automatically unlock.
But on Android (or on Sense, anyway) I have to type it in, then press enter.
Like I said, they're little things. But things I miss nonetheless.
So! Is there anything I can do/change or anything I can install to 'fix' these things?

I understand that you're missing the things you've been used to for a long time but at the end of the day this phone isn't an iphone and it's not pretending to be either.
For me if i want to know who's contacted me i unlock my phone and check, it's that simple. In all fairness, if a lockscreen can give away information then it's a lockscreen that's not doing it's job, i want my info to be private until i want to use my phone, otherwise anyone could just open it and take a look.
I'm sure that you'll find that after a while you'll see why people use android over ios and if you ever make the switch back to ios you will miss android so much it'll just make the iphone look stupid.
As a rule of thumb i always go for paid versions of apps and avoid any with aggressive ads, so anything that installs something else with it has to go, If anything has notifying ads then again it has to go.
Generally speaking that's about it with the apps, just go nuts.
There are tonnes of "Best app" threads on XDA and majority of them are in the top 100 apps on the play store anyway.
Afaik there isn't a way to have iphone style scrolling of your notifications.
You do get missed calls and texts on your lockscreen though (the productivity switch is probably the place to go to turn most of these on)
It can be done goto your messages go to settings it will be in there something like display message on screen same for WhatsApp and so on
Exact same problem over here. Coming from iOS and being used to get everything I need to know right there on the lockscreen.
There are some apps on the Playstore that you can use as a workaround though.
First, don't hesitate to use Notifypro, it will send you a little notification like you could get on iPhone. Notification will appear everywhere, in a game, a video, etc etc. Easily configurable and useful. Plus it's free !
Next, I tried it but didn't like it that much, it's Notification LockScreen Widget. I'm not really fond of it, there must anoter app doing it better...but I can't try anothere one since my phone has been shipped for warranty.
There are 2 settings on the security section in settings, one to show message notification preview and one to show phone notification on the lock screen. Try those...

I've just realised how true this is now.
I've had to resort back to my iP4 while my One gets replaced, it's only been gone a few hours and I'm missing it already!
Same thing here. Was an ios user since iPhone 2g (the most beautiful one imho). This is my first Android phone after getting a nexus 7 last summer.
For me there's just some handiness in some of the functionality built into ios. What I "missed" was the batt status in percentages, volume control from headset and also the notifications.
Found these three apps:
Notification toggle
Can put a batt percentage in the statusbar. And also some very handy quicklaunch buttons in the notification tray like android 4.2.2. and touch wizz.
Jays headset control
The name says it all and it gets the job done.
LockerPro
It's a locks screen replacement which also shows notifications like ios.

Thanks for this info. I'm coming from a jailbroken iPhone 5 and I want the quick settings toggles on the lockscreen.

cheers KH_; can I ask, is it stable for you? lots of reviewers saying it crashes quite often?
Apologies for the late reply mate.
Locker pro works really well! It's great being able to see ur notifications and actually read the content from the lockscreen! The app has a shortcut and widget panel accessible from the lockscreen too.
Jays headset control didn't work at all on my device so deleted it. I got the HTC metal three button headset. Good price, sound at least as good as headset supplied with the phone, skip tracks and volume control!

Hi,
I've just installed PAC-MAN's 4.2.2. Really good ROM and I spotted a little third icon in the notification center.
Then I tapped on that, suddenly a little circle popped up on my screen and just sticked to the left. Then things becomes really annoying, because this little thing just does not go away. I went into the settings - ROM Control - Ribbons, and tried menu - reset ribbons again and again. Still can't get rid of this. Can somebody please tell me how to make this little circle thing disappear?
This little circle thing is really annoying. I'm not sure if this is the official feature of Android, or is it just the dev team's work? It takes the job of Notification center and pops out every single time I get new push notifications. I already see what the notification is from the status bar, and can easily deal with it in the dropdown notification center, so I do not need this thing to tell me again! What's worse, this thing takes up screen space, considering Galaxy Exhibit's screen is already a tiny one. And now I just don't know how to deal with it, letting it sitting there popping up randomly and I just can't turn the thing off.
Then I see that maybe the dev team has brought the idea of Ubuntu's idea. The point is, Ubuntu's idea is just a vertical dock, and the dock idea is not only Mac OS X's, but also Android's - look at the "phone" "contact" and "app drawer" icons at the bottom of the screen! I can't say this is a bad idea, but, please, give me the option to disable it.
Double tap and drag to the x. I think.
OMG it magically worked...
Thanks a lot!!!

Its a new app called halo me and jaws talked about it in the PAC thread.
Hello!
I know there are some Threads about it already.
I've been searching the web (and xda) about hiding those Nexus navigation buttons in apps but with no success of what I want.
I have already posted this in Q&A but with no success.
REQUEST:
I want my navigation buttons to be ACTIVE on some apps, while I want those button to hide on the other apps with !!POSSIBILITY!! to activate them (indefinite, not only for some seconds) and deactivate when needed.
I don't want them to appear "above" everything like some apps and ways to do this offer. I want it stock, the way android 4.4 does this (eg. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...go-truly-full-screen-hide-the-navigation-bar/)
With the latter I meant when on Home Screen - there should be transparent Button Bar (like stock 4.4) Not like apps that only offer full black
Do you think it is possible? Or maybe modified ROM could offer tweaked and improved android 4.4 "Full-screen Immersive mode" HERE.

Well considering the rom scene has yet to start up for cm or any other rom for that matter, I wouldn't hold your breath. I am sure it is possible, but I don't know if someone will make it, seeing as there isn't a huge demand for this. Roms like AOKP have features like autohide nav bar and swipe up to reveal but nobody has what you want (that I know of) and I don't think it will happen.

Maybe you are right, but still I hope for a solution that would extend that Immersive mode to all apps.
I already found a similar solution app called Full!Screen. It does almost what I want with one exception - I want it to activate with a Gesture - Like swipe down with 2 fingers? and deactivate with swipe up from the bottom
I don't like any notification bar toggles
Maybe I can get it to work
Hi all
I've my phone since two days and I have to say, I deeply dislike MIUI.
The most annoying thing for me is the status bar. I have apps open all day long (for work) with action buttons in the notifications.
If I pull down the status bar, it always opens the second (right) screen, and not the left one with all the notifications. Further, after closing status bar and reopening again (for clicking the action buttons), the notification is not expanded anymore. It does not save, that I've expandet it allready. In these cases, you always have to use two fingers, to expand the notification again. Really annoying! Every other *normal* Android system I had, has behaviour like this...
I don't want to flash RR or CM, there always are bugs and features not working...
The person who can point me to the right direction for addressing these bugs is my hero!
Thanks for all your replies in advance!

Hi,
you provide no information about what rom or what version of miui you are using. This makes it a bit hard to help. My Mi5 runs the xiaomi.eu dev version 6.7.21. The bug you describe is not present on that version. I just tried the "two sided" notification bar and it always expands to the notification side and not to the shortcuts side. But I prefere to use the "one sided" notification bar, which is more comfortable for me. Everything is on one side and the shortcuts are located above.
cheers

Hi Greg
Thanks for your reply. Oops, stupid me.
I'm running MIUI 7 Global 6.5.30 on my Mi 5 Pro.
Maybe they changed this behaviour for the global release.
You mentioned "I just tried the "two sided" notification bar [...snip...]". Are those "one side" notification bars in every MIUI (v7) or do you have some special build? I can't find it in my settings...
Hi,
honestly, I tested miui v7 just for one or two days, then miui v8 came out and I switched directly to this new version. So, i really do not know, if the "two sided" notification bar was firstly introduced in the v8 or if it was a part of the v7 already. Is there something holding you back from flashing the new miui v8? I would do a nandroid backup and test the v8. But don't forget to update your twrp accordingly.
cheers
