Need a bit help on custom time installing for note ics - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to all expertise,
I currently have a note with stock ics 4.0.4,
it use to be on gb 2.3.6,
I use Dr ketan method (thanks) to upgrade to ics 4.0.4,
by stock gb > install custom kernel to get cwm > wipe data > wipe cache > wipe del cache > install stock ics using odin > install cwm.zip at stock ics recovery > install super user to root
Now,
I heard that if u wipe data, wipe cache, wipe delcache on stock ics will brick your phone,
so,
I can't use cwm.zip to install custom rom,
am I right?
Can teach what way should I use to install a custom rom for ics?
Thanks in advance.

Stock gb > Use PC Odin to install stock ics > install custom kernel for ICS like Philz or hydracore using PC Odin (you will get CWM & root)
Once you instal custom kernel for ICS like Philz or hydracore, you are safe to wipe since these have the eMMC_CAP_ERASE disabled.

Restrict the use of CWM.zip.
if you are not rooted, use the Philz kernel, and install from stock recovery. It will autoroot your phone and its a safe kernel and has best CWM ever built

I did a root using the cwm.zip last time till now, can i direct use the method u said or do I need to do something else 1st? And after the kernel flash by ur method, I can direct flash custom time like cm 9, right?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

i guess you are rooted as of today. Right ?
if yes what kernel are you on ? In on stock, immediately move to Philz kernel. you can use Mobile Odin to flash the kernel if rooted. if not then use the stock recovery.
After installing this kernel, you can directly flash any ROM you want

I'm still under root today, since that day using cwm.zip to root it.
My kernel is on stock ics LR2.
Baseband is LR1.
Can I direct use the stock recovery method to install this kernel u said, without unhooking the previous root?
Oh, and I didn't install mobile Odin since the day I rooted my note, just for reference.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

you can use recovery as well as mobile odin
whats your rom build... use it to find your kernel...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191

Is dxlr2, right?

I have downloaded this from the link u guys shown,
PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR2-OLB-v2.7.signed.zip
Is the the correct kernel I need?
And so, I will following the step bellows even though I have done the root by using CWM.zip till now:
1.put the signed zip file to the root of extenal sd card.
2.go to stock recovery, not cwm.zip recovery.
3.flash safe kernel zip.
4.reboot.
5.all set to flash custom time.
Correct me if I'm wrong, tq .

right.

Thanks for all the help to you all, better start the steps now.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

Yeah. U shld.
As long as philz kernel zip, and u download the correct kernel for ur built in, there shld be no problem in flashing philz from stock recovery.
Hipe to hear good mews from u. ^_^

backing up now, quite a while, is it due to too much apps i installed?
can i put the power core in while it is backing up?

how to prevent your note from hardbricked

Dears
when you flash any new rom you are taking a risk to cause EMMC Bricke, so the solution for this is before you flash any rom you have to keep a copy of Abyss Note kernel on your external memory card, then restart your phone in recovery mod and flash the kernel after that make reboot in recovery mod again then follow the new rom flash instructions
Note:
1- when you flash the Abyss Note kernel you have to be sure that really you want to flash a new rom other wise your phone it will not work until you flash the new rom
2- no need to flash this kernel if you need only to update your currant rom

This is only applicable to stock ics roms and custom roms using stock ics kernel (don't think there are any anymore). Emmc is not triggered by flashing but by wiping which is done in menu, dialler, recovery, by changing csc or flashing a full wipe ics rom.
All gb kernels are safe from emmc, abyss is a gb kernel, so the same goes for any gb kernel.
Just to clarify.

Use CWM to flash zips.
Use pc odin to flash tar files... Just wipe cache and flash it..
Using jbroid kernel script before flashing is perfect in CWM.

Depends on the kernel..Don't wipe with stock kernels which comes from Samsung officially...Flash a safe kernel first then Do wipes...
so flashing to the abyss is the safest way to upgrade then....great

Hi, you should have choosen CF_Root kernel at the time of installation, instead of speedmod or notecore. CF_root kernel is fully rooted. Once installed, you can check if you got full root. Then you can simply flash either sppedmod or notecore whichever you like. Kingdroid 6.0 is coming in a day or two. when you go for it, you can take care of above.(seems KD6.0 itself is fully rooted. you get almost all details in kingdroid thread in development section. good luck.

I suggest you may downgrade to GB first, then go for the flashing Custom Roms (safe way).
i did choose CF kernel in aroma. but after that we have to download SuperSU from market and busybox and install it to xbin and then reboot and then update binaries of SuperSU ....phew !!
that was hard work !! :victory:
i hope the un installing and installing of busybox is safe from the ics kernel

Retain full root ( credit and thanks to grgsiocl guide)
1. Make sure you flash any GB rom and root it or else flash any pre rooted GB rom using PC ODIN
2. let the phone boot and after that check the USB debugging
3. Download the mobile ODIN from market and make sure you have some ICS stock rom to flash
4. Push the ICS stock ROM to your internal / external SD card
5. Open MOBILE ODIN and select the ICS stock ROM (there is no need for any ics custom kernel here)
6. select wipe data, cache and dalvik and also select everroot and inject supersu
7. flash firmware
8. Let the phone boot
9. Once the phone is booted, make sure you update SU binaries before you start using the phone
10. Select and flash any ICS kernel, preferably CF root so that it gives the recovery for the ICS ROM
11. Enter in to recovery and then flash any custom ROM including Classic ROM without wiping anything
12. Let the phone boot and update the binaries of SU...this way your phone is fully rooted

how to revert back to gb

im on criseklo rom and on notecore 10.6 kernel, and i did this without uaing a bloody pc nor a wifi, i wanna try cm9 since its highly customizable, is there any possibility i can revert to gb rom and kernel to flash cm9 roms without a pc,

As you are on a safe kernel just download cm9 and gapps put it into your sd card, reboot to recovery (cwn) wipe data/cache /dalvik cache flash cm9, then go to advanced options and reboot recovery once rebooted flash gapps and reboot system.. That's it no need to go back to gb

You can use Mobile ODIN Pro for the same. It does the job and doesn't cause Triangle on boot and doesn't cause count.
Just download GB Rom from dr ketans thread or www.sammobile.com and put it in your SD Card.
Open Mobile Odin.
Select the file in the column Open the file.
And Start Flashing. Remember to check for md5 checksum before flashing if it asks and Wipe Dalvik/Cache.
Done
Now you have Stock GB Rom on your Note.
Or
You can use Abyss Redpill Recovery Original Logo.(Reboot into CWM and flash Abyss 4.2)
Reboot Recovery
Now Full Wipe.
Flash cm9
Flash Gapps
Reboot System

Since you are on Custom ICS Rom its safe to wipe but Using Abyss 4.2 is the best way to install cm9. I have installed cm9 from safe kernel with ICS but does not recommend you as this will mess up (probably) .
Read if this can help you
For switching your existing ROM to GB ROM
here some modification
Download Prerooted ROM
and flash using Movile odin Pro
Here is guide how to use Mobile odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816158
Note : You need not to change kernel in step mentioned above guide
Go directly from where you are without doing anything.
At end you will have Rooted GB ROM + CWM without using PC Odin.

Last week I've been running Crash v8.2, it's a nice rom. This is the way I installed it:
1. Download Abyss4.2 kernel and save on sd
2. Download Crash rom file and save on sd
3. Boot in recovery mode(home+pwr+volup)
4. Install Abyss 4.2 kernel
5. Advanced > reboot recovery
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Install rom file
8. Reboot system
After step 3 its a good idea to do a backup(nandroid) in cwm recovery if you haven't already.
After step 7 you can install HydraCore 3.5 again if you want it back, it works fine with Crash. Im actually using 3.5oc on it.

You can probably do the steps without flashing Abyss4.2 Just telling how I did it. I've made it a habit to flash Abyss4.2 before wipe since it's proved to be safe with wipes and stable with installations over a long time.

I have read here at xda, in description for HydraCore 3.5, that it should be safe to wipe (data/dalvik/cache) on this kernel. But thats all I know =) I would like to believe it's safe when they say so. But I have not tried myself yet.

Rooted (but haven't flashed any custom ROM) - ok to factory reset /good for warranty?

Hey guys,
I have rooted the GNote N7000 using CWM but haven't flashed any custom room. Still on official 4.0.4 rom. (Rooted as I wanted to put a ported Google Now app on it).
Now I want to do a factory reset. Is it safe to do so? Do I need to unroot it first?
Second, If i take it to samsung for repair under warranty, can i take the phone back in its current rooted (with official rom) status? Or do i have to unroot it first?
Many thanks,
B.
Root breaks your warranty. You have to unroot the note.
Btw you should move (or ask to some moderator) this topic in q/a section, or in general.
Dev section is only for custom roms, kernels and mods

You say you are rooted.. What kernel are you on ? if its the stock ICS kernel then its not safe at all to do a factory reset. First flash a safe kernel and then do a factory reset and then unroot by flashing the stock rom again to remove all traces of rooting for warranty
also as we dont know what method you used to root : go into download mode and check the binary counter if its 0 for warranty

Hi - when I purchased the Note (N7000) it's on stock 2.3 rom, then I updated it to ICS 4.0.4 via Kies (hence stock rom) and then rooted by going into CWM mode and flashed CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip.
All I did was rooting the phone using CWM, and I've never used Odin and flashed any custom ROM. I suppose I am on official Kernel? In the phone setting > about phone: it says baseband version: N7000XXLRB, Kernel: 3.0.15-N7000ZSLPM-CL901577
1. How do I flash a safe kernel if that is required?
2. How do I go to download mode to check the binary counter?
3. Do I have to flash stock rom to unroot? (I am not on any custom rom). If not, how do I unroot?
Thanks guys for your help! I got nexus 4 and am trying to reset this phone to then give my mom for xmas! Your urgent help is much appreciated!:laugh::laugh::laugh:
1. To flash a safe kernel you can either install using mobile odin or the Philz kernel zip file from stock recovery. This will be needed if you want to reset your phone as doing wipe of stock ics kernel is unsafe.
2. Vol down + power + home then Vol up to continue
3.to un root you can flash the whole Rom again using pc odin.

Thanks nokiamodeln91. So what i need to do now, is to flash a safe kernel, then reset the phone (by going to settings > backup and reset > factory data reset), then flash the whole stock rom to the phone to bring it back to unroot, correct?
2 more questions:
1. Where can I find this safe kernel to flash? Is it an official kernel? If it's not official, would that be an issue when the handset is set for warranty later down the road with an unofficial kernel?
2. Will flashing the stock rom back raise any flash counter? I will just use the latest stock rom from sammobile?
Thanks!
Once you flash a safe kernel boot into into recovery and do a wipe data factory reset.
Safe kernel ex. Philz, hydracore.. Look in the android original Dev section. You will find them
There are custom safe kernel and cannot be there on phone for warranty.
For warranty, you will need to flash the stock Rom using odin and will remove all the root add stock kernel back.
Will not raise counter.

Just wondering, if I have to flash the stock rom which will overwrite everything on the phone including the kernel anyway, could I not just skip the first step: (flashing a safe (unofficial) kernel to factory reset the phone),
and just do the flashing stock rom using odin which will just bring everything back to stock (including wiping everything out)?
No. Installing new Rom will not wipe everything unless you install a wipe Rom. And doing a faculty reset is not safe on stock ics kernels.

I am actually not very good at this and am worried i may brick the device. Can I just use the superuser app's 'fully unroot' option to unroot the Note, then take it back to samsung service centre for them to fully wipe my device and also load the latest rom for me? (They confirm that can do it for free for my note which is still under warranty)
Only concern for me is that, after i use 'fully unroot' feature in superuser, will samsung still be able to tell this rom has been modified and refuse to service it? I can confirm that on my device current flash counter is 0 (no), and it is showing as official samsung rom.
Uninstall apps that need root access and delete their folders before unrooting through superuser app.
