[Q] adding a usb touch panel ? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
Is there a chance one could add an additional touch panel via USB (eg ebay item 170879442843),
there seems to be open source drivers for this touch panel controller available (apparently it uses usbtouchscreen.ko), but maybe some patching of the source code (like disabling multi-touch) would be necessary .. could you please advice if one can compile the kernel and the driver with some of the custom roms available here? I could perhaps do it myself if there is a how-to, but in general do you think it would it be possible to get it working? it can replace the native touch screen if it makes any difference...
the reason is I would like to attach this touch panel over my built-in LCD screen in my car, and use the Tab as a car pc basically, or am I dreaming....
many thanks!!!

A Program that proves Diamond has Multi Touch Screen!!

Here we go... A nice program... Just put more than one finger on the screen... it recognize them all!! (it does not create a swirl for each finger, but it takes the average of coordinates and locate the center of swirl there)
It means that diamond screen can recognize more than one point simultaneously... (i wish i am not wrong)
Wasn't that behaviour always the case for single-touch devices?
Yes, that's not multitouch. Average of all touch is the default behavior for many touch devices including touchpads at laptops.
If they had really put a Multi touch Screen into the Diamond so why isn´t it in use????

Not a good argumentation. They've put a lot of HW in the diamond that we'll probably never use (heat-sensitive buttons, accelerated 3d graphic i.e.)
what are you talking about...first of all OS has to support multitouch...its the same as you cannot use HW when you havent SW support = drivers...
....but if its multitouch or not I ll try it in the evening...
Is it NOT Multitouch. It's a simple Resistive Touch Display.
This is how it works... it measures the resistance between two layers, if you connect the two layers at multiple points, the result is a point in the middle of the connection points.

How to enable multi touch?

How to enable multi touch?
same question!
The Diamond doesnt support MultiTouch because it has a resistive display.

well, the touch diamond DOES have kinda multi-touch^^
the control panel placed right under the screen (where you're hw buttons are). This panel is a capacitive touch panel, which can be enabled with a few apps like gScroll or this app shown on youtube:

i don't know it's name but i guess it's free and googable...
i googled a bit and found a thread on xda:

and here is the main article on wmpoweruser.com which also includes the video from above:

i'll give it a try

Screen Rotation (Original Settings)

I have, in the past, installed various utilities to make my screen rotate automatically, but none of them worked as great as I wanted them to work (nothing managed to enable BubbleBreaker to run in Landscape mode, the Manila never rotated properly, etc.) so I ended up deleting them and putting newer ones and they didnt do what I wanted either.
recently my sms and browsers stopped rotating too and sometimes when i manage to make them rotate, they wont go back to the original (portrait mode) and everything just messes up.
I know that I can hard reset my phone and revert back to the original settings, but then I've got loads of apps installed and stuff customized the way I like.
I was wondering if they is any thing I can do to revert all the settings (for the screen rotation) back to the original values without losing any information, apps, other stuff I have on my phone.
Thanks
P.S. please provide a list (if possible links) of the apps I will need to use too.
P.P.S if possible I would like to know how to set other things too, like how to change the position of the start menu to make them come on the bottom bar instead of on top, how to use manila in landscape mode, how to keep the music player on while I turn on the camera (I could do this on my BlueAngel)
Here's what I would do;
Install TD2 Tools which has a rotation manager.
Then install Topaz Keyboard Controller and map one of your hardware keys to rotate your screen.
To get bottom bar start menu would require flashing a custom ROM as WM 6.5.x is not available stock on Topaz but has been ported from other devices.
Music palyer while camera is on seems would be a memory resource issue.
thanks
but im still curious about the cam and the media player
since you could do it with older slower devices running WM2003 but now the new ones which are supposed to be faster (more mem) won't allow you

As devices have improved, so have the cameras, but they have always been resource hogs.

[Q] Notification LED

Hello everyone,
writing from Italy, where this smartphone should arrive in these days. I already pre-ordered it, but I'd like to know if there is any kind of notification led on board (like the one that Nokia 5800 XM has - sorry for this link but it's my phone at the moment and I find the notification light very comfortable) or if perhaps there is a way to access the softkey buttons so that I can command them to light on if any notification is available.
Thanks in advance and have a good evening
In a nutshell, no notification light and no application for the button lights yet.
Thanks well, do anyone know the object I shall refere to access those lights? I really hope they are objects and not just "part of the screen"...
If I recall correctly, someone did actually mod the softkey buttons on the Galaxy S for notification purposes. If it was done there, why not on the 2X?
Edit:
There it was: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772672
Now all we need is CWM and a custom kernel with this thing implemented.
What I can say from inspecting the service manual so far is some bad news sadly:
All leds connect to the same source.
This means, the LEDs cannot be illuminated individually, only together.
I'll dig into it some more. Maybe I can find out something more.
Edit: Alright, here's some more.
The power source for the LEDs is realized by the LXW and/or FBW outputs of the MAX8907C which seems to be a power IC for the platform (it provides possibly all major voltage flavors inside the assembly)
The device is controlled via one of the I²C buses of the AP20 chip (PWR_I2C_SDA and PWR_I2C_SCL) but sadly, I couldn't get a hold of any datasheet for this chip, so further progress is work for those who can dig deep enough into the OS and kernel to control the appropriate outputs.
What if we inspect the source of the software coded for the Nexus S so that we can actually change the parameters and make it work on the 2x?
Well, since the "Hidden Menu" has an option for dimming the light on those buttons, shouldn't it be posible to use the same functionality to make notification light out of it?
This "Hidden Menu" must be some apk or something?

Nexus S is a completely different platform. I think starting from scratch would be just as hard than tweaking the Nexus S code.
Searching the APK of the Hidden Menu could be more promising.
I'll start digging as soon as I get my phone... it's taking ages to arrive here in Italy ::facepalm::

USE OF CAPACITIVE BUTONS

Mod Android Auto GUI to show large clock on bottom command bar

I own a Mazda CX-5 and recently paid for the upgrade of the infotainment to add Android Auto.
The main issue is that once AA is running the clock becomes almost unreadable! it's too small an overlaid on the app (mostly Waze for my purposes).
I would like to be able to move the clock to the bottom bar of AA in order to ensure it's always there and way bigger then now.
I started by decompiling the AA APK etc... but then come to the conclusion that probably someone else already tried something like that and that in general here in the forum there will surely be some kind of guide on how to decompile/repackage the AA and which layouts/bundles to edit for which result: unfortunately I didn't find any such guide
So my questions:
1 - is already out there any AA rebuild which puts a large clock in the bottom bar?
2 - if not: is there any guide on how to open and repackage AA and which are the main requirements to make it work again after repackaging?
3 - if not: at least some steps on how to mod some layouts and repackage in a way which allows it to work?
4 - if not: anyone willing to share suggestions on issues I'll meet (i.e. google signature required for AA, special permissions etc...) ?
5 - if not: anyone out there who already tried (and failed) willing to share his experience so that I don't start the try-fail process from scratch?
thanks everyone for helping!
p.s.: no Xposed at current stage since I'm using the company's phone and I'm not willing to root it, thanks!
Hi, i know this a old post and i'm sorry if my English is a little bad. You resolve the clock problem? I buy a CX 5 too and have same problem and question.
There's an option to do just so with Substratum and the theme Extras For AA
Having the same problem I made a small application which gives the time all the time:
[CLOCK] 0.2 Always displayed
-Some car radios do not display the time when an app is in full screen (waze). So I developed a small application that displays the time permanently. Usage: install the app and start. The position can be modified by sliding, it will be memorized...
