Cheap dock with USB audio out - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I have this item and can confirm it works.
EZOPower Dock Cradle
The phone does not sit in it super snug, but it is tight enough on a solid surface. I wouldn't try it in a car!
The charging plug in the bottom of the base is adjustable, and should allow usage with most cases.
Make sure you go to Settings/Accessory and click on 'Audio output mode' to enable the audio out of USB.
I have this on my nightstand and it is connected to my stereo clock radio. The audio is good with the volume all the way up on the phone, otherwise there is some static that comes through the speakers.

Interesting I didn't know android supports audio out with microusb

This is just what I was looking for but it probably won't fit with my Defender case. Anyone know otherwise?

Unless the case is very thick on the USB end, it should fit. The USB connector on the dock slides a good 1/4" or more from front to back.

Well, the Defender does have a large bottom But, I'm pretty sure an exact knife/dremel and some plastic welding should be able to accommodate. Looks like the USB plug is pretty flush and I'd need it to stick out 1/4”-3/16” to make a solid connection. Unfortunately, this dock seems like the only one that is open enough to run larger vases. At least it's cheap enough to try out

Well, for $20 I wouldn't call it cheap enough just to try it out if you are not sure if it's going to work I prefer $3 ebay cases to go under dremel surgery (like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Dock-...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item5af01ebc65) although I had to make an excuse with that other $15 charger/dock from tmart for ZL9300.
But this particular EZOPower dock looks very good with plenty of room and that padding in the back can always be removed (I assume) to give extra room for a case. Regarding Defender there is another problem. The micro usb port cover is very thick and might be in the way when you flip it backward to fit inside of any cradle/dock. I read somewhere of people actually complaining that even a pressure of that port cover on the usb charging cable loosens up micro-usb connector on the phone. So, unless you cut off that port cover, I'm not sure how it's going to work with Defender case.

Oh yeah, I cut that thing off as soon as it came out of the package. Makes it much easier to dock in my car with my ProClip.
Also, that eBay dock you linked doesn't have 3.5mm audio out. That's what I'm after with a desk dock.

OP stated that you can enable audio out of USB, just need an adapter/splitter I guess? At least that's how I understood his post cause that dock doesn't have audio out and he suggested its not for the car.
Btw, I don't think I came across cables with micro-usb going to the phone and usb/audio out splitter on the other side. Does it exists? Also, do you need to use OTG adapter for N2 to be a host or not?
To OP, how do you connect it to your radio?

Yes, iBolt's xprodock now ships with one, which should supposedly be available separately in about 4 weeks, and there are cheap ones on eBay which apparently don't work on aosp/cm based roms but are fine on Samsung based roms

I ended up getting an Amzer Piano Dock. It looks like the same dock as this, except the description states that it works with most cases whereas this dock's description says it works with thin cases only. I'll report back later today if it works with the defender case
-edit- the Amzer works with a Defender if your happy to take a dremel to your new $30 dock and like plastic welding or hot glue lol.

Personal review of the Nexus S KiDiGi Desktop Dock

KiDiGi dock
I got tired of samsung taking forever to release a desktop dock, so I went and bought the kidigi and have been using it for a week now. I have to say the dock is amazing . It fits the phone perfectly and holds it in tight . My test for a good dock is if i can place the phone to charge when im drunk, and i have to say its a good dock. . I had a seidio and it was a pain getting the micro usb to line up.
maybe a few picture of the dock?

Sorry cant show you phone on the dock, i dont have a camera besides my phone.
Does the dock fit the phone very tightly or would there be room for a silicone case?
Looks good though. I wondered about mounting one of these permenantly in the car instead of using a brodit active holder

This fits really tight and no room for case. Would be a really good car mount, the phone doesn't move at all, but don't know about permanently mounting something to a car.

using this as a car mount is actually a good idea, just use some strong velcrow. but the downside is that you wouldnt be able to the 3.5mm headphone jack due to the design. what a pitty for people like me who use aux for audio
Does this dock cause the Nexus S to go into dock mode?
I have dock from Odds and Pods.
It looks exactly the same as one described in this thread but no KiDiGi label on it.
Few things which might be helpful for some.
Mine phone did not went into dock mode until I modified dock:

Dock working fine with Best Skin Ever attached - so there is some room for protection also.
I would not recommend this dock to use it in the car. Not in the place where I live.
If you have only smooth roads, no bumps at all - then yes - maybe. But your phone is not hold in docking station by anything but small USB plug.
Imagine what will happen with this on some bumps.
Consider buying this one for car instead:

http://www.4u-mobi.com/onlineshop/online_shop_detail.php?pid=5694
Also I have a question to thread author.
Does your dock working OK in USB transfer mode?
Mine just showed up and I was pleasantly suprised of the build quality. Fits perfect.
I got the one with the spare battery compartment.
Best part about it is that it charges the phone, syncs usb, and charges the spare all at the same time rather than one at a time like some of my older versions i've bought.
If it only had an audio out jack in the back it would be the ultimate.
Ordered it here but can be found cheaper with some research: http://www.4u-mobi.com/onlineshop/online_shop_detail.php?pid=5692 showed up in 10 days

So the usb sync works, transfer files, on the one you got? Just want to make sure since the other person said it only charged his phone (unless I read it wrong).
Works perfectly fine.... They ship it with 2 different cables, 1 is obviously for data transfer and the other is for charging... you can tell because one is thick vs the other very skinny... so I hope whoever said it didn't work didn't get their wires crossed up!

Could you please tell us where you could find it cheaper ? Because, personally, I find that is has a very nice design compared to other alternatives, so I would really like to buy it. Preferably cheaper than 27$. So, again, please tell us where to find it cheaper. Thanks !
Also, on their site, it says that under DC and USB charging, the output is 500mAh. My Nexus S DC charger says 700 mAh. How is that going to affect the charging time ? Almost +1/3 of what it is right now ?
I also understood from other sources, that USB can only give a max output of 500 mAh, is that true ? So the only down-side for this dock is the 500 mAh DC output... it would've been better if it had 1A.

Bump. Does the phone enter dock mode?
Does this fit with the I9023 also?
So, where do you find it cheaper ?
Anyway, I found it on shop.brando.com (I think it's a replica of the KiDiGi model). Unfortunately, I can't post links here, so if you want to find it, do a search for "Google Nexus S USB Cradle" on their site. It's 18$ only for charging the phone and 25$ with a slot for charging the battery. That's compared to 27$ and 31$ respectively for those 2 from KiDiGi.
Also, apart from the KiDiGi models and these replicas, I've also found the chinese ones on eBay. Those are around 10$ each, but I don't quite recommend those. They also come with a 500 mA DC charger each, so there's nothing good here, opposed to the 1A charger that comes with the KiDiGi and those replicas on brando shop.
Hope this helps somebody.

No, it does not enter dock mode. Tested on both ports.

Verizon Xperia PLAY case means it won't fit in the Verizon dock.

Why am I not surprised that Verizon would produce two main staple products and not make them work with each other?
The Xperia PLAY case makes it so that it's just a tad too thick to properly dock, shame because the Verizon case is actually amazing (and the design chosen for the back just kicks outstanding amounts of ass). Anyone tried sanding away enough of the dock so that the protected Xperia PLAY will fit?
I could understand if these weren't Verizon-branded products, because expecting a third party case to fit with another dock would be absurd... but these are both Verizon branded products.

So you are upset that Sony Ericsson didn't keep in mind that people would want to put a case on their phone when they packaged their product into a verizon wireless box? umm... Thats every multimedia dock and car docking station, not just the Xperia's.
Verizon simply repackages accessory products. They didn't make the case and they didn't make the dock.
Just because this is a common issue doesn't mean it's not a legitimate complaint. Docks should compensate for cases with adjustable-length usb connectors, etc.

No one is saying that it's not a legitimate complaint. We're saying that he needs to complain to Sony Ericsson for making the dock that way. It's like complaining that the official Apple iPhone 4 dock doesn't fit the iPhone 4 or 4S with the official iPhone bumpber case (it doesn't) but directing your complaint to Verizon just because you bought it there and the package said "Verizon" on it. Verizon has always resold official accessories with their own packaging.
Remember I did this and it still doesn't work. From what I can see the only part stopping it is the corners so ill try to sand them down and see what happens. I'm almost at the base of the usb connector so I don't have much more I can sand if this doesn't work

Wow. I'd find some kind of generic device dock and add a magnet to trigger dock mode before resorting to that. Even salvaging the original dock, it seems that you could use a jack extender intended for an original iPhone to extend the audio jack and a microUSB cable adapter to extend the other. Good luck!
I should point out that the audio cable that Sony Ericsson sometimes bundles with it can't be plugged in at the same time as the microUSB cable because it is a right-angle plug and the cavity only allows it to lay toward the USB port when the dock is sitting flat on a surface. My solution is to buy a different cable. Let's see your solution!
It is my expectation that premium cases should come with their own line of compatible accessories from the case manufacturer. I'm surprised that Otterbox doesn't make cases AND docks meant to fit devices with their case on it. They could even use some cross-device designs to make some docks that fit several of their cases. That said, I'm triple-surprised that even Apple doesn't make a dock or something to fit their iPhone 4 or 4S with the official bumper case installed. I have several universal dock adapters made to fit it with the case on but they are made by someone else and they only fit "universal" docks (not the iPhone 4-specific dock).
I bought it for $5 from Clearence at the local vzw store and never used it so destorying it to get doesn't really bother me, atleast I know it wouldn't work.

I had a hard case but hated it, it would push the screen protector off when clipped onto the front half, was so thick/chunky, and it made the volume buttons harder to press and of coarse couldn't use the SE DK300 dock. I went to using a pouch made for the XP and can't be happier, "naked" the phone feels and looks good and the pouch provides protection when in pocket/not in use

Is it the official Sony Ericsson one that has the pull tab that pulls the phone from the pouch? I started using that but I dropped my phone while watching a Youtube video and cracked the touchscreen. It was a cheap and easy fix but the case is still chipped and cracking in places. I'll probably switch housings sometime in the future but there aren't any Stealth Blue ones available. There are no salvageable housing parts on the cheap dummy model either.

Galaxy Note 2 Car Mount ? W/Electronics?

Hello all,
I know, not another car mount thread.... Well here's the scoop, like a good boy I read through every other thread I could find and it seems like there really isn't a good car mount that can hold the Galaxy Note 2, nor are there any that have charging cables or stereo out cables.
Is this true or is there a mount that can truly hold the GN2 (even with a case?) that might have charging / audio out capabilities? I just am looking for something rock solid that at least holds the darn phone in place on my dash.
I know that there are 2 mounts - one out there by Samsung (and their distributor) as well as the Iottie (link below) but both have a lot of reviews claiming that the phone really doesn't fit and isn't held in well by the mounts.

Well, for suction cradle I went for the Exogear Exomount 2.
For stand-plug cradle I went for Capdase RacerMount.
Both hold my Note2 with case snugly.
I can even find interesting friction mounts for up to 7".
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
i honestly love the iottie one, even with the folio flip cover from samsung. phone is held nice and snug, and the suction cup on it is none like I've ever seen. so god damn sticky that its like its 'glued' on but not. grips to any surface
I have the iottie and I think its awsome. The suction cup is amazing and will stick to pretty much anything, dash, console, wall of living room. Its impressive. Alittle 2 sticky when your trying to move it. It is also very flexable to the positoning that is available. It also will hold the device with any case or shell you can put on it. And the quick latch function is nice also... I highly recomend and like this mount
I have iOtttie as well. Yes, it's a real PITA get off the dash or windowshield. It's open enough that you have full access to all the ports. I've even recorded video with GN2 while in the dock.
Here's a crap video I shot with the GN2 in the iOttie dock:
you can see the section cup holder for the dock in the bottom right corner. The other upper left suction cup holds the satellite radio dock. Everyone wants to listen to NFL radio, LOL. Too bad I had the flash on, might have been able to see the van laying on it's side.
Does the Iottie allow for too much stress on the charging port?

Hey guys, has anyone tried the Proclip car dock for this phone? I'm trying to figure out if it's USB 4 or 5 pin, so as to support audio and charging on one cable, I figured I just find an OTG cable to then plug into that and go from there.

Well, a little late to this thread but I just got the ProClip unit for the Note 2 that works with the Otterbox Defender case. This is the second ProClip unit I've had. The first being for the EVO 4G. The phone fits into the holder perfectly but you might have to wiggle it around to get it to sit right.
The unit that holds the phone without a case may fit easier.
The one thing with the unit for the EVO 4G was it didn't put it into car mode. I found the unit for the Note 2 also doesn't go into car mode but I have been reading where that might be a problem with phone itself.

Car mounts - any available?

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

Yup, right here:

But the thing is, Verizon units are thicker with wireless charging capabilities. Thus, this holder may not work for other variants..

I'd rather have a couple hunred more mah battery if it got thicker anyways.

It's not an official car holder, it's a universal one. But I've been so impressed with it on all my phones, it's worth a shot. Fits the g2 nicely and doesn't cover the bezel. Great customer service too.

I'm also hoping for a car mount real quick, as I'm going on vacation in a week and a half, and barring any sudden change, will be using my LG G2 (come on, Tuesday...) to nav. Worse comes to worse, I'll get a universal one. For my GS II, I'm using one made for, I think, the Motorola Atrix. A couple of years ago, AT&T had this great deal where you buy the desktop dock for 16 bucks and get the car mount for a penny.
Would really be nice if they put the wireless charger in the car mount.. then no wires that you have to fool with hooking up once you put it in there...
Surely I can't be the only person that can think of these things..

Yup, right here:

But the thing is, Verizon units are thicker with wireless charging capabilities. Thus, this holder may not work for other variants..

That mount doesn't charge the phone. I got a car mount with Qi wireless charging and it works great for my G2. I can give people the link if they want.
Edit:
Here's what I got. It works great and it doesn't cover the screen. The 2 grips don't bend in that much so it doesn't block the screen.

mount for G2
Hi found some mounts for g2 :
Check out them may be you find something interesting there....
Radio Transmitter car mount for G2
Car mount with charger for G2
Thanks
Now the wireless car dock actually sounds useful. Too bad I have att: ( otherwise I don't see the big deal in putting your phone on a large pad that takes up space and has to be plugged in anyway. Now if they can build it into the arm of my couch or surface of my desk we got something good. Wireless furniture chargers.

I'm a little partial to the big, clunky mounts with beanbag bases, so this caught my eye. It's looks more like a general mount, even though the site mentions the G2 in the product title. Considering I really need one for vacation, I may go with this. http://www.shopandroid.com/arkon-we...ash-mount-and-slim-grip-holder/3A78A10703.htm
If anyone has any other ideas or found a more specific solution, I'm definitely listening.

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

The G2 fits very nicely. You must press it firmly onto the USB connector (on right in picture) or you will get an error that says the phone cannot be charged.

I happen to find this particular one at my local tech mall:
http://shipi.com/easy-one-touch-car-mount-universal-car-mount-fits-most-smartphones.html
The claws are thin enough not to cover the screen and the one touch function is awesome. I just need to "drop" my device into the mount and it will clip itself as there's a button that will trigger the claws to snap. :good:
I went by a local VZ store yesterday to check if they had the official dock. They did not. However, I did find that the Samsung Universal Navigation Mount holds the phone quite nicely and still allows access to the USB & headphone jacks as well as the camera out above the mount. At $30 online, I think that's the way I'll go.

Now this looks interesting. Does the phone still slow charge? Have you tried it with GPS running or music running with the screen on? Does it drain faster than it charges?
Thank for any answers you can provide!
Does the back come off? Haven't gotten mine yet.
I'd like to use one of these, but don't want to stick anything on the outside of the case.

External Qi Charging Coil

Has anyone tried one of these?

I'd be curious to hear your experience, I wonder how thick or fragile it is. I'd buy one to test but I am not in the US and would have to import it.
I ordered one a week or two ago. One of my wireless charging pads (which I didn't have any of, so I had to order a couple) arrived yesterday, but still waiting for the receiver coil. Hopefully any day now.
Edit: bah, I forgot, it's being shipped from HK; it'll be a while yet (the pads came from the US).

Awesome, I look foward to hearing your thoughts on it when you get it
They are pretty thin. I've never use one quite like that, but I used the external pads for the Note 2 that I retro fitted into my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus... and it worked extremely well.
I ended up hooking it up to the POGO pins and taping it onto the battery I had to do a little case modding to make it all fit in a normal Incipio Feather case (basically cut a back plate in half, but I had like 5 of them).
So it works really well. The problem I see here though is you are eating up the USB port all the time. With the thin profile cable, I wouldn't attempt to unplug it many times. Just leave it and forget it. Fortunately the G2 has a great battery. My Verizon G2 has this built in, and I Qi Wireless Charge every night.
The Coils are thin, but thick enough to forbid the use of a thin case like a Incipio Feather. If you use this, you are best off using a TPU case that is flexible.
player911 has nailed the situation. My plan is to 'switch over' entirely to wireless charging for the most part, and wifi file transfers -- I don't want to be unplugging/plugging the usb connector in at all. I figure one more charging pad (total 3) should do it... 1 at work, 2 at home kinda thing.
The eBay version of the amazon listing linked seems to suggest it will come with a case (the one pictured). I can't imagine why I would be asked to pick a colour otherwise black or white, when ordering. Yet both listings state "1 piece", so who knows. Will report what I end up with when it arrives. My S3 had the pogo pins so that you could use wireless or usb for charging but I never went that route at the time. The use of the usb port on the G2 did give me pause but I'm going to give it a go.
I would give it a go too. Perhaps temporarily until a internal solution pops up (bound to happen). Even if it doesn't come with a case, TPU cases are a dime a dozen.

I just bought one of these, when I get it in over 2 weeks I'll make a review of it since no one else buying these has still.

Interesting. I look forward to hearing how these work.
I've received my coil from ebay, and "installed" it.
It is working fine, however my battery is almost full, so I can't test now the current. I'll do it later.

Awesome, thanks for the pics! BTW, what charging pad is it that you have there, with the green and red lights?
How thick is the coil? Do you think it is possible to fit it under the back cover? Because I'm planning to do that and run the cable through a hole I want to cut in the back cover so that I can plug it in the usb connector.
Eh that isn't too bad. Looks fine IMO. Besides you don't really need to use the USB port with the Wireless Storage option (awesome feature) and Qi Charging.
So if the port is unused, the also acts like a port saver to keep dirt and lent out.
If you feel lucky and want to further reduce thickness, you can open that package up and remove just the coil. The packaging is basically a thick plastic sticky back that is folded over. Removing the outer plastic housing will cut down 1-2mm. Inside the hard plastic cover, there is the actual coil that is in a black square sticker. The Coil itself is round. On mine, I removed the outer shell and trimmed the unused outside area around the coil. Creates a smaller footprint and gets even thinner.
My goal with my Galaxy Nexus was to fit it in a hard Incipio Feather Slim Case. As it is, any TPU case should work though.

it is thin, but I don't if there is enough space under the backcover, I've never removed it.
I'm still testing it, if my readings are correct it is charging the G2 with at least 400 mA.
Now I've moved it to check how much does the positioning matter.
I've charged it from 50% to 100% using this stuff, it was charging with ~450 mA
Qi is a slow charge. I use mine for my desk and nighttime charging.

fine
400-450 mA charging current.
I've ordered two different kinds, one is the same as Wizard7 that purports 500 mA output and the other purports 750 mA output. I've received neither one yet although according to tracking, the 750 mA one is finally slated for delivery today. But it has a longer cable that I'll figure out how to fold or contend with.
While I fully expected qi charging to be slower, I have to admit I hoped it would be faster than PC USB at least. It would have been a decent solution if I didn't "lose" use of the usb ports but I guess as long as it charges overnight, I can't complain.
Sooo which qi chargers do you guys recommend?
I also bought the charging coil ;D
