[Q]Restoring via CWM from GB to ICS - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I'm right now on an cm7.2 rom and I'm going to shift to waylands cm 9. I made a nandroid backup on my cm7. Now when I restore the backup on my cm9, will I face any consequences as I restored a CM7.2 backup or will I not face any problems? I basically just want to restore my apps. Titanium backup is too tiring for me.
Thanks!

Iv been lukin around 4 n easy way 2 restore apps 2...n dis s what i found...
If u hv titanium pro,den ders an option dat allows u 2 auto install batch of apps without prompting u evrytym with d permissions window...
Or u can download dis app i jz found cald app2zip...its on d market...it creates a flashable zip containing d selected apps...so u can jz flash it in cmw recovery aftr installing a new rom...but i hvnt tried out dis method yet...so dunno hw well dis works...Il let u knw ven i switch roms again...

Question : restoring data after flashing roms

First of all,hi all, newbies here.. Bought my O2X for about a month n flashed a few custom roms..question is,i read somewhere that 'restoring data' after flashing roms can cause battery drain issue,is that mean restoring thru recovery or titanium backup? I always use titanium backup n restore app only, afraid of the batt drain issue, but it gets annoying coz i need to set up everything again.(account login, settings).

Only restore "user apps", not system data when coming from another rom.
Sometimes restoring user apps WITH data can cause problems, like batterydrain. For example when going from froyo to gingerbread.

not really, when staying on froyo rom (MCR Kitchen for example), just flash over new rom, you will keep your data ...
when flashing new baseband -> also just restore backup in CWM
when changing to CM, i would recommend using titanium or mybackup pro to restore your apps (exclude system apps in backup, cause they are different !)
but when you´re staying on CM , just flash new rom, you will keep your data !

yes !!
i came from fr14 to fr18b2 without wiping anything !
i would only wipe once when you plan to move to cm, but when you stay on MCR based roms, just reflash rom and enjoy !

Fear, BlazingDragon, they are all based on MCR, so it shouldn´t be a problem ...
just try out, in worst case, when facing a bootloop or some other problems, you can wipe anyway afterwards ...
so it´s good to have a "titanium" or "mybackuppro" backup for worst case
Ok thanks dude!

ClockworkMod Recovery

I am installing it, but the progress bar hasn't moved for a few mins, in fact it's not even filled up at all. I have used this before on the same phone and it flew, but I had to factory reset (kids messed up the phone) and now it just sits here. Not sure what else to do, any ideas?
Yes I cleared cache facory reset before installation.
if you are installing from recovery then install it from Odin it shall work

Odin saved the day and I was able to get both CWM and Cyanogen 10 working
CWM
:angel:Hey Guys,
I installed CWM 5.2.7 in my galaxy pop 2.3.6
i tried to make a backup file with Nandroid (cwm)
after backing up process is finished i only see 2 files in my sdcard
1. Boot.img
2. Recovery.img
size of both are only 8 MB
is backup is done properly ?? 0_o
i mean gingerbread file is approx 90 MB
and Nandroid give me 2 files of 8 MB each? what about installed/downloaded apps ?
what if i restore from this backup?
would all apps came back??
plz reply guys:angel::angel:
I think you are ruining stock Samsung firmware
and it cannot be backed up
Stock firmware ? U mean official firmware ?
If this is what u mean then Yes, im using it and i have CWM 5.2.7
i tried nandroid backup and it gives me what i mentioned above .
And what is the point of backing up if u cannot backup on official firmware along with all downloaded app?
I thought Nandroid give me a full backup image which shall contain all settings and apps . In short, just the way it is right now!
And all i need to do a flash restore through this CWM thing....

No, Official Firmware can't backed up cause incompatible settings with NANDROID.
Okay,
Thnx

But i really want to backup my gingerbread along with all apps
..
When i open CWM in my galaxy pop and trying to backing up It shows some error..
E:\recovery log cannt found ....something like that
Any solution for this?
And if u r a galaxy pop user too ...plz suggest a good custom rom. I dont want complicated stuff like theme manager or rom manager or terminal emulator. Most of roms come with those app
Plz suggest a good rom for me.....any rom which is similar to officials....

use titanium backup
or create a recovery yourself
E: cannot mount/cache/recovery/command
E: cannot mount/cache/recovery/log
E: cannot open/cache/recovery/log
These error showing when i reboot in recovery mode!
And will titanium make image of my current firmware? Or i have to install apps one by one ?
If i have to install individually im doing it ! Its time consuming and annoying
(Setting up every thing every time i flash with custom roms )
I need nandroid

Restoring a whole bunch of apps 2 a new rom

Hey i needed 2 knw if ders a way 2 create a .zip consisting of my user apps n data so dat i can jz flash it after i install a new rom...i switch roms very often n its very time consuming n irritating 2 restore evry app frm titanium one by one...plzz help me out...!!!
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
in titanium you can batch restore apps.
Select the box with a check mark on it in upper right corner of the app and in there look for an option to restore
If you have full version of Titanium it's more convinient because it auto-installs apps when restoring
Yeah...dats what i usually do...but its much easier ven u hv a zip 2 flash along vit d rom...so dat ven i reboot,Il hv all dat i need...especially in some roms which don't hv a file manager inbuilt...so strictly i ws lukin 4 a .zip maker...
But thanx neways...

what you want is possible if you do nandroid backup ... but pratically its not very reliable and efficient coz while changing roms you may shift from 2.3 to 4.1 and nandroid restore may give force closes/... titanium backup is a more reliable way.. and you can always use the batch restore function... its more reliable !! and with batch restore you can restore almost 100 apps within 15 min..
press thanks if i helped !!!
Titanium Backup Pro has a batch restore function (App+Data)

If you dont want to pay for Titanuim backup then you can always use App Backup Restore!
It works really well otherwise use the cracked apk for Titanium backup
Titanium Backup also backups the market link of apps so upon restoring, the apps will automatically be linked to the market ensuring further updates..
