Hi, what exactly should i do to be able to play videos you say? I have MX player with its codec and still are videos often out of sync even with lower quality videos (480x272 25fps and about 300 bitrate)
I have android 2.3.5 CM7 on my X8.
Than you for any help.

Convert the video with "Freemake Video Converter" to android 320x480..than play the movie with video player or mxplayer

Because not all downloadable videos are in that excat format.

I used 480x268, bitrate 258 and it's still stuttering a bit. It's not out of sync though. Is it normal for X8?

Used handbrake with the option....
480x320 (with force scale)
x264
bitrate 800
additional option: cabac=0 / ref=12 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x1:0x131 / me=esa / subme=10 / psy=1 / psy_rd=2.00:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=32 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=0 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=1 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=3 / sliced_threads=0 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / interlaced=0 / bluray_compat=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=0 / weightp=0 / keyint=300 / keyint_min=30 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=10 / rc=2pass / mbtree=1 / bitrate=800 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=3 / qpmax=69 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00
Doesn't lag or shutter abit:victory:
But it takes a long time to convert :silly:

hd movies 720p,1080p are imbossible on x8,because hd videos need armv7 soc ,x8 have a armv6 7x27 soc who have only 600mhz.

I have found out that if i use MPEG4 instead of x264 or H.264 (dont know the difference) it's smooth now. Shame it makes bigger file for same quality.

x264 has many "compression" function than mpeg is, but with the cpu usage differences...
try find the function deblocking and disable it.... Deblocking uses more cpu to decode

MoboPlayer updated with Tegra 2 support

I haven't tried it yet but a new version of MoboPlayer is available with added Tegra 2 support:
http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
yup, works great. Gotta get the codec (but you have no choice, when you open the app it tells you you need it and gives you market link, so you can't miss it!)
This has quickly become my video player of choice; however I'm honestly amazed that it doesn't play *.divx files like VLC does.
Is there any better playback for MKV?
Hmm I just re-downloaded Moboplayer with the codec it recommended from the market and now sound isn't working on anything...
I haven' tried a MKV yet but I will in a few, the market download gave me the same issue with no sound so I uninstalled everything and did a manual codec install from within mobo ... working perfect now
just tried with a downloaded MKV of a TV show...

I think this is an Android limitation rather than a Tegra 2 issue. Either way its hit and miss for me. One enccoder works flawlessly at 4500 while anything encoded by handbrake at that bit rate is choppy.

I thinking the "base only" profile was an h.264 limit...
and got a little confused by the CODEC ID: V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC thinking it was MP4, not x264 inside...
Funny the video plays fine, but the audio doesn't.
The ones I've run through Handbrake to turn into MP4's play a little smoother, at least on the Xoom's screen... HDMI out to my TV is still a little jerky
Can someone mirror the codec file please? I can't seem to hit their site.

I also have this problem when playing h.264 MKV files. However, there is a work around.
Within Mobo Setting, there is an option called "Default using soft-decoding" under Playback section.
The video will have audio playback, but it might be jerky or there is lag between video and audio depend on video file.
Glad I stumped into the Moto forum. The player works good with my Iconia A500 with RMVB files.!
I'd guess the audio doesn't play because it doesn't support hardware AC3 (DD) decoding?

This works for me, but I don't really understand why it's necessary. I have an mkv file with mpga audio and it plays the video just fine, but no audio. Isn't there a way to play the audio without taking the performance hit?
Yeh the lack of hardware audio decode is a real shame, means we have to switch to soft decode to get audio, hopefully there is something the mobo player team can do about it, maybe we should try get in contact with them?

Just to clarify, this does _not_ use Tegra hardware acceleration, its just optimized for the ARM core (Like using an SSE optimised binary on a PC)
The _only_ way we will get usable 720p+ h.264 (main profile) and/or use an MKV container is if the _platform_ gets updated with support for the MKV container and Nvidia update their OMXs for the platform.
No app will improve of the default playback

Didn't work for me...
I don't get very good performance with this player when streaming from a network drive. Personally I prefer VPlayer (search on the market)
My Samsung Galaxy s2 Stock Media Player dosent play ac3 Audi files or Mp4 FIles with Ac3 audio decoded. I was able to play those using Dice player or rockplayer.
The official Samsung Site or other specification says this (This is from Wikipedia)
For audio it supports (FLAC, WAV, Vorbis, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, MID, AC3, XMF). For video formats and codecs it supports (MPEG-4, H.264, H.263, DivX HD/XviD, VC-1) and video formats (3GP (MPEG-4), WMV (ASF) as well as AVI (DivX)).
Issues:
1. Stock Media Player dosent play ac3 Audi files or Mp4 FIles with Ac3 audio decoded (Stock Media Player gives the Option 5.1 to be enabled but ac3 not playing)
2. Other players play it Under software decoding, But main Problem is 5.1 isn't working with Head phones
I googled and found some Users were able to Play it with stock media Players. Read something like "I dont have any problem playing those files, I just copy and play them"

Anyone know why the full version is now available and how to install the app having paid for it when it was available?

This is the only video player I found that could playback 720p mkv through dnla on my Samsung Galaxy S. Here's my setup.
Samsung Galaxy S / Skifta / Diceplayer (Full purchased off the market in Nov 2011)
Server running Serviio dnla server
1080p stutters but I think that is down to the single core in the Galxy S. 720p smooooth.
I paid £3.35 in Nov for the full version of Diceplayer from the market but I now need to reistall since changing rom but can't download from the market?
I didn't backup my apps with titanium before doing the upgrade or I could restore app only.
Any ideas?
I have emailed the developer with my receipt but have received no reply.
cheers
for me RockPlayer Lite is the best deal out there. plays most of the formats.
no problems till now

1.1.0 update solve that AVI Shutter problem.
Just installed and tried 1.1.0, still not as smooth as mobo, for example: when the camera is moved in any direction, there will be stutter.
could you give me information about that avi files?
I sure could:
1325 kbps
704x400
If you want any other information, just say so.
Hey, the player still can't handle the FLAC audio quite too well yet and one of my AAC audio files causes the player to crash. Here's some information:
-Video File 1-
Width: 1280
Height: 720
FPS: 23.97
Video Codec: h.264
Audio Codec: FLAC, 5.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs)
Audio Bitrate: 48000
Audio Channel Count: 6
Data Size: 2.49 gb
-Video File 2-
Width: 1280
Height: 720
FPS: 23.98
Video Codec: h.264
Audio Codec: AAC, 5.1 (C L R Ls Rs LFE)
Audio Bitrate: 48000
Audio Channel Count: Not sure
Data Size: 2.16 gb
Also, when I tried playing a file with an AAC codec it caused an error stating "W/AACDecoder( 856): AAC decoder returned error 30, substituting silence". I attached a logcat if you want to look at it.
AAC codec is not our code. it is google's codec.
we can fix it to change system aac decoder to ffmpeg's aac decoder.

We finally fix avi XVID problem.
check update.
Doesn't work on the Nexus Sense ROM, may not be something big at the moments, but when all the quirks are figured out a lot more are going to use it.
Anyway, when you say you've fixed the problem do you imply you're going to update the player in the near future, or was that included in 1.1.0? If that's the case, it isn't fixed, since the presence of the stuttering became clear as soon as the camera was moved in any angle.

Width: 704
Height: 400

Audio bitrate: 128 kbps

or
install apache or something in your pc
share your movie folder to web. you can play them through browser.

it is not HW video decoder. it is SIMD instructions like MMX,SSE.

Is there a video player for our device that can play 720p mkv files without a hitch. Playing 720p mkv videos often have "patches" or "blotch" Here is an example. I'm using MX Player with Neon codec.

MX player with HW+ setting enabled for local files plays them without a problem you don't need a neon codec also just enable that.

What player do you use? 720p or 1080p mp4 plays well on my phone though. Its just 720p mkv just doesn't do good.

you are right, vlc hangs on this file.
i dled it myself to confirm that.
the built-in player plays it without lags, if you install an app like AnTuTu CPU Master (free) and change the governor to "performance", but there are small color bugs whenever the subtitles change.
i guess this results from the video file not being encoded correctly for our devices.
the corresponding message on the pc when playing with mplayer is:"Could not find matching colorspace"
so the file is encoded with the wrong colorspace.
i guess your best choice would be to download correctly encoded files, since the converting of the color space eats up some cpu time, even when the color sorrection works as expected. there are plenty of mkv encodings of "one piece", so that shouldnt really be a problem

MX plays without lags but the discoloration and "patches" still is present . I don't have the stock player since I'm using CustoNexus. This is evident on all 720p anime downloaded directly from subbers... I think this is a limitation on all android phones...

How about the preinstalled video-player?
Try Dice Player.......i van play 1080p without lags...for me it is the best tried...
im using MXPLAY.it s good.

diceplayer or mxplayer

this problem is not about the resolution of the file nor the container... it's because of the bits of the video... it happens because your episode is encoded in 10bits... the one that works best for me is MXPlayer... there's no video player (that I know of) for android that can perfectly decode 10bit videos :/ but if the encode isn't in 10 bits, all the mkv files play smoothly...

I'm already using MX Player as said on first line of the post... HW/HW+/SW modes were tested...
