Hi all,
I'm a little scared because I wanted to install a new ROM this morning.
I've done as usual by making a backup etc. .. When making a factory wipe, the phone restart and nothing since. Unable to start, impossible to put a ROM via ODIN (it stuck on <ID:0/006> factoryfs.img
<ID:0/006> NAND Write Start! )
I do not know what to do. I feel like I have no partition system. Is it possible?
Thanks for your response
what rom were you on, what kernel. how did you start the install?

I was on N7000XXLRT version. No specific Kernel wich i take here
does that mean you did not have a safe kernel?
how did you wipe?

It's possible you're bricked as you were on stock ics kernel. Flash gb rom using pc odin see how it goes and report any errors.

When i flashed via ODIN, it still blocked on NAN Write and nothing appears..
I hope the NOTE is not brick

No the Note was rooted, it's sure . I brought to pass it as collateral
just wanted to know if the CWM was built in the kernel or was it a CWM.zip file. if it was the zip file, most probably the phone is bricked

Hi,
So I've recently tried to root my Note and put it on PA0.5 ROM and it gets stuck on splash screen. Dr.Ketan told me to use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763151 and I've followed it completely. But as soon as I get to install via recovery it gets stuck. I've read threads like this but most people loose recovery and get stuck but mines stuck w/ recovery. So please someone help me!
Thanks
Weeo
P.s. As soon as I get this fixed I can start making my LGUI3.0 ROM

In what situation you are in now ? Are you trying to flash ICS stock rom now ? If it so I would recommend to stop it and flash GB Rom using PC Odin.
I was on stock ICS originally, followed that guide to get on GB+ROOT. Flashed PA in recovery and it doesnt fail, it 'installs' and then i reboot and it doesmt work.. Also o did wipe everything
Back on stocl ICS

Don't worry, if you don't know what it is then you didn't repartition. Do you know what version of cwm recovery you have? Press and hold power, home and volume up till it reboots into cwm.

Yes... I did it..
N nothing brick issues..
ICS rom is safe..
which makes the brick is the stock ICS kernel...
So do not do the wipe when you're still using the stock kernel..
Flash Abyss kernel first..
N then do the wipe using abyss kernel..

Hi there...
1st of all...thank for the existence of the most helping forum for android community. Thank you to all developers.
Last week I've flashed PhilZ kernel ver 2.5 for my GNote N7000 with PDA-DXLR5, I got rooted and it's works great!
For current PhilZ released the newer version which is 2.7. My question is, may I just flash the new kernel directly from ext. sdcard thru recovery mode? Without changing to stock kernel first. Thank you.

Ok. If I want the phone back to factory setting I need to downgrade to GB flash using pc odin n do wipe. Then upgrade to ICS (either OTA or flash thru pc odin).
Otherwise, (2) I can flash stock ICS thru pc odin without downgrade to GB but I cant do wipe in ICS is it?
No (2) will maintain setting and it's contents?
Thank you.

1. If you are on a safe kernel, you can do wipe without going back to GB.
2. Never wipe on stock kernel, only on stock safe kernels like Philz.
3. If you do factory wipe, you lose everything. Apps need to be reinstalled. Your "contents" such as images, mp3 and such will remain until such time you format the USB storage.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Factory reset will not erase the internal SD card. u have to manually do it from mounts and storage or format it using PC
Hi so i just moved from my iphone to the note so im a little nooby with andriod again, im trying to root and install a new rom but half the stuff im reading is all gibberish LOL. For instance what is GB, JB etc its all confusing at the moment
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Man now i sound silly, gb is gingerbread and jb is jelly bean. What is xxsl7 though?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
You're right on the first two... As one that came from an iPhone, i know how confusing it can be...
When people mention xxls7 or something like that it's usually rom related. Take the first two letters, xx gives you location, not 100 percent sure but think that's open europe, then the last three are the important ones, that's rom version.
It's incremental so a before b numbers higher than letters. So lc1 is earlier than ld1 or lc2 or lcz. They range amongst overall versions, so gb has its on range, ics (ice cream sandwich) has its own, and now onto jelly bean with the lsx range.
Get my drift?
There's also kernels which are the package that performs connections with the hardware, same deal, later generally better.
On ics, Stock kernels are dangerous and can brick your device instantly, read stickies about that, so we usually flash a safe kernel if we're on stock ics. There's hydracore or phillz amongst others. Each have their own benefits/drawbacks.
Hope that helps, read all the stickies initially, it'll help alot, especially on ics kernels and bricks as we have a lot of people skipping that and coming here complaining of a dead phone after first flash.

Thanks for an awsome reply! It makes alot more scense now lol. Your saying when rooting on 4.0.1(ics i think) i need to also flash a safe kernal so that a rom can be installed?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
all stock ICS kernels are unsafe for WIPE as when installing a new ROM you need to do a factory reset and wipe cache/dalvik cache ( Clockworkmod recovery terminology)
thats why spyde adviced you to install a safe kernel before going to install a new rom..
---------- Post added at 06:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:51 PM ----------
its very simple to root a 4.0.4 these days and safe as well..
check you rom build number and download the kernel corresponding to your rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1901191
then place the zip file in the ext SD.. boot into recovery and update from external SD and point to the Zip file.. install and done..
Rooted, safe kernel and CWM for installing new roms as well...

Yeah. Coming from Iphone is like wow damn! xD
Just take a time to understand the importance of the kernel and the process to root via odin and then flash a rom via recovery.
Be patience and read before flash or wipe something.

hi,
i currently have cognition 4.5.3 (Firmware Version 2.2)
can i upgrade to CyanogenMod 10.1 without upgrading bootloaders/kernels.
i do have ClockWorkMod installed and the phone is rooted.
the reason i'm asking is my phone usb doesn't seem to work and it seems that's the only way we can upgrade bootloaders.
thanks
Not sure i would chance it, because if something goes wrong and u get stuck in a bootloop or whatever, then u would maybe need to get into download mode and reflash stock...which u would not be able to do in ur situation. Imho.

There are some specific instructions and cm7 isn't part of it.
Best way from Froyo is Odin kk4 with bootloaders, flash corn kernel with Odin 1.85, flash CM9 and then CM10 twice (cause it has to rebuild its partition).

After the wipe...it began bootloop so I reinstalled clockwork mod and now whenever I try wipe anything or try mount a storage I get the message " unknown volume for path " and that comes up quite a few lines. I'm guessing my partition has been wiped etc so I need to flash a new rom on here. Phone doesn't boot into anything apart from recovery. Any idea's how?

Other pption is to apply dbdata.rfs.tar through odin..this method is also temporary..phone will work but when u shutdown it and restart after 1 to 2 minutes cwm bootloop again comes..

Hi mate , I found a solution to our problems. Easiest way to sort it out is basically download Gingerbread for the i9000 , then flash over the phone using Odin. Once that's done , install Clockworkmod recovery. This install a custom rom such as MIUI or CM10. I'd say MIUI is the easiest rom that works straight away. Or you can keep gingerbread.
Hope I helped

you need 2.3.6 bootloader to get jelly bean working, so visit My Android Collections and use the JVU 2.3. 6 ROM with 512 PIT , root and CWM kernel as your base to upgrade from rescue and recovery kits section ...upgrade to ICS first than to a Jelly Bean ROM. But First backup your efs folder
your problem is due to wrong version of CWM used in 2.3.5
Ok thnx very much for your help...
