As the title says, I've started deleting bloatware from zipped roms by deleting all the .apks I don't want.
Haven't had any related issues yet, but I'm wondering if it is possible I could run into one ...
So is this a reasonably safe process or not?
What do you think?

You mean, you deleted the apks aftr unzipping the rom & again zipped the rom file back & flashed? If yes, then I dont think you will run into problems..in one of the JB thread someone asked "how about making a light version of this rom with aroma installer?" & OP replied saying "unzip the rom, remove the apks which you dont want & zip it back, then flash"..I tried searching for that thread, but coudnt find it
No, I didn't bother to unzip it, if by that you mean extracting it to my desktop. I just opened it up with winrar, took a look around, deleted what I didn't want, and closed it up again. No problems so far but it actually isn't any faster than uninstalling the apks once the rom is installed ...
Don't you feel risking a possible brick

Agreed..plus you even took the time to check the box saying it was a question?????? then you could have taken the time to see the STICKY THREAD saying post questions in the right section.
second off if you dont know what your deleting before you delete it then you shouldnt be deleting stuff from your phone. Do some research before you start deleting items. PLUS do some research about pushing an item. quit being lazy.
Go to the market and get an app called system app remover(it works wonders)!

how do you add different icons into the status bar
Use an app called metamorph. You can modify the framework...and that's the status bar icons
Tbolt meatclaws via talkatap
Go to uot.dakra.lt/kitchen and make one for yourself. You can edit the colors and much more. All you need is your ROMs framework-res.apk.
Get the framework.apk from the rom your using (/system/framework/framework-res.apk) and from the theme that has the icons you want, then use 7-zip to get into the framework res apk / drawable (drawable-hdpi) folder and swap out the .png files that you want to change. Make sure the new file has the same name as the one you are replacing.
You'll have to copy the .png files onto your desktop to view them and get familiar with the apk folders, it's not difficult.
Close the framework-res.apk in 7-zip, no need to re-sign it, and push it back onto your phone.
reboot.

Thanks very much!
do you have to be rooted to use this
OK I just tried this. After I flashed the .zip I got a TON of force closes from various places. Browser, google search, some others, right when the phone booted. I followed the directions and extracted and uploaded my ROM. the only options I wanted to flash were the circle battery and the bootanimation. The bootanimation and circle battery did show up, but after it booted there were just way too many force closes.
Can anyone help on what I need to do?
First thing I always do out of habit is go into CW, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, then reinstall my zip. Takes care of most FC issues.

I want to try the UOT Kitchen but I can't confirm if the stock TB rom is odexed or deodexed. I am a newb, been looking for an answer, but I can't find one.
**UPDATE** So I been browsing my rom files and ive seen some .odex files. I think this means its an odexed rom and can't be used with the kitchen. Is that correct?
all confusing to me! haha
I have done quite a few mods to the graphics in the Framework, including the battery one here. My question is that every time I push the framework back and reboot. I have to re-setup a few things (i.e. passwords) and clear contacts and resync. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help anyone may have.
Stock rom is odex. You can download plainjane rom that is deodex stock and rooted.

Hello, all,
I haven't been able to find an answer to this on my own, so I thought I'd just ask. In the MaxQ rom KK2 version, some -not all, but some- of my apps I restore with Titanium disappear after reboot. Their com.whatever names still show in the app drawer, but they all are uninstalled. The same apps restore fine in Pinnacle 1.3.
Anyone have any idea?
Your best bet would be to post your question in the MaxQ thread . You also should look in the Illuminance KK2 and the Serenity KK2 thread where it's been covered.
Edit: my bad, you don't have enough posts to ask in the devs section, You can still go read in the other 2 roms I metioned, they have been covering this same problem.
Check and make sure tibu is installing them to the phone abs not the sdcard.
if they are being installed to phone see if In the offending ROM, open it up, is there a data folder?
If so take all the apps from /data/app
Move them to /system/app. Then open illuminance and take the meta-INF folder from it and put it in the other ROM, overwriting the original. Then flash that.

Thanks, I didn't realize this was happening across multiple roms. I've been on Pinnacle for quite some time, so I haven't kept up with the latest happenings. I figured I was just doing something stupid.

Thanks. The first thing I do when I install Titanium is to make sure it's restoring to the phone's internal memory.
Tried the meta-INF thing. Didn't change anything.
I guess I'll stick with Pinnacle. I just wanted to change to something with a different theme. Oh well.
Thanks again to both of you.
So after rooting my phone, my gallery has been crashing every time I try to open it.
I rooted with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701
I tried clearing the data and clearing the cache and it didn't work.
I tried going in from my computer and copying out the data and deleting it so that I can restart with a new DCIM folder, but it's written protected... =/
Ideas anyone?
How do you mean password protected? Never seen that on an Android folder. Shouldnt you just remove this lock to help your app?

Sorry didn't mean to say password protected. I misspoke and meant to say written protection. I can't delete the files or edit it, but I can copy it.
Ok So it's slightly different from flashing a phone like my galaxy S2 I9100.
On my phone I should flash a ROM and a .zip package of gapps (google apps) among which is the gallery app.
Since you don't have to flash such a package I wonder whether you came from a KK ROM.
You said you rooted it like this. So I assume you came from stock KK ROM which comes with your AT&T Note 3, which should be no fine. But you can check that though.
Further ideas;
it could be a corrupt file somewhere on your device. You're gallery app will try to show it or make a thumbnail out of something which will result in a crash. For this you can try other gallery apps (I liked quickpic) and see if they crash.
Maybe you can unprotect the folder/files simply by:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5059293_rid-write-protection-file.html
On this thread it appeared to be an old SD card so that could be the problem as well.

Lol sorry for the misunderstanding. Just to clarify, yes I flashed it with the KK ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701
and rooted with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
Yeah I've tried to unprotect it, but the options were grayed out. It won't let me click on them or unclick them.
When I access my DCIM folder it looks like this. The folder would contain my pictures and a bunch of other files that I don't recognize. I'm not sure whether it was from the ROM or the root.....
and with Quickpic it worked... ish~ I was able to open the app with a long loading time...and it also contains the other files that I don't recognize as well....
ugh i ended up just reformatting my SD card, i just wanted to get rid of the problem.
oh well. thanks for the help really appreciate it.
If you accidentally deleted an application that you wanted later or just simply desire the files for development of custom TouchWiz based roms (or any other reason) and don't want to fish for them on a stock device, then here they are
These files are from the unmodified but rooted NG2 software. The only modification was that the device was rooted, so obviously @Chainfire's supersu is not part of the original files.

Yes I did. I simply took them from a stock rom. Which I'm sure anyone could do - just I know I never thought to until i'm at a point where I have no choice but to flash back to stock. So now everyone has them handy.
They are simple file copies. It's not a flashable zip. Extract and use adb to push or simply copy to your device. Again these are mainly for those who are building custom TouchWiz based roms and want to include some of the bloat - but can be used by those who need some of the applications for whatever reason. But they aren't flashable and some probably will have to be replaced using adb push.
I will try to work on a flashable zip but that will take me some time. Also a flashable zip file doesn't help those whom say only want Sprint's Zone app for example but don't need the rest of the bloat. Just saying. But will post when I have made flashable zips for all-in-one bloat.

Someone else chime in here if this is wrong:
but... some of the touchwiz apps will refuse to work thru a simple file copy from within the device. If that happens, some of it - keyword "some" will be fixed by using a custom recovery like philz-touch or CWM or TWRP and clearing both cache and dalvik-cache after doing the file copy - at least that worked on 4.3 and 4.2.2. But KitKat has changed some things so I'm not sure.
If anyone else has dealt with this, please do comment....
When pushing .apks with ES or Root Explorer (my personal favorite) you do need root and need to place in the correct folder (system/app, system/priv_app, or system/lib if it's a lib file) and be able to change permissions - usually to rw, r, r.
... So definitely pay attention where you copy the files from and where ya put 'em.
If not done, they will not work.
Hope this helps someone!
Just wanted to let those of you whom are watching this thread know that due to personal stuff I have no time to make flashable ZIPs anytime soon but if anyone wants to take a stab at it before I get to it then be my guest

Yes I copied it to the system folder and then tried to install it. What do you mean by set permissions? For arguments sake I gave it rwxrwxrwx permissions and it still will not install.

Rebooting and trying now, hoping my error with the permissions was the issue. Also, I'm not finding the stock calculator app in these archives. I may be being stupid again though, I apologize if that's the case.
