Hello,
im not really sure what happened to my phone. I rooted it a while ago to install some ics version via clockwork mod.
Then, not really sure what i was doing, i tried to root it again several times when i wanted to change the custom rom.
now i cannot root the device anymore. its now running stock 2.3.4 but i want to go back to original lg software to start all over again.
as there isnt going to be an official update any time soon, which would have solved my problem, i now need help.
i dont know what to do. im really confused.
please help and excuse my bad english

yes, it says "successfully rooted", but when i open autokiller memory optimizer, he tells me, the device is not rooted at all.
=/
is there any way to fully restore the device..
load some official os version and start from scratch?
my goal is to load the ics version, now that the source code is published..
and i dont know how to get there.
Use nvflash. Even you can install custom stoxrom with it

I updated to froyo 2.2 (leaked version) on my samsung captivate, and I was wondering if there was a possible way to downgrade back to 2.1.
*The only reason im not liking froyo 2.2 at the moment i cant seem to learn our find out how to root it...
Wanted to root to rom a custom rom?
"noobie question"--> if i was to downgrade to 2.2 back to stock 2.1 and root it to have super user, i could then be able to install a custom rom? OR what would other people suggest doing?
Could someone point me in the right way with a link or two maybe, or some suggestions?
bummmpppp! this is all so new to me!
Here's a link to the SuperOneClick to root and enable non-market apps.
And here's a thread for new captivate users.
You might have an easier time finding answers in the Captivate forum.

Thanks so much for these thinks, I can use this SuperOneClick user on my Captivate with froyo 2.2 correct?
I like the froyo 2.2 just couldnt figure out how to get superuser, im trying to install a custom rom on it, never done it before just wanted to try one out and see! New to all this so probably have more questions haha !
Also another noobie question(s).
What does "flashing" mean?
lol
You have to be rooted to have superuser privileges.
Flashing a phone rom is like installing a new OS on a PC. Be careful on doing so and watch some videos and read up on it if you get brave to try flashing custom roms onto your device. Usually ppl use a windows app called Odin to do so. Make sure phone always charged 100% before flashing any new rom also. It could mess up battery stats otherwise and could risk brick if its almost dead then dies LOL. Assuming that's the context of flashing you meant.

Flashing in simple terms means to install a new OS version/Updates/Themes etc on the phone. The most common method found here in XDA is to use something called as Clockwork Recovery Mod.
Seriously, go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364 you will know what you need to do to flash a custom ROM. And may I suggest Firefly 2.1 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914284 as your first ROM. It is a good ROM. You will enjoy it. There are some other ROMs, if you ask which is the best, clearly there is none, it is purely on preference. Once you have flashed one ROM, and then a few, you will know which one you like.
1. installing a custom rom does not require a rooted phone, you can copy the update.zip to your sdcard and get into recovery, select the custom rom zip file and flash from there.
2. have you flashed a bios on a computer? flash a phone's rom is very similar to that.
Hello there people from P970 Optimus/Maximos Black
I have a friend that as a p970 and he is in a problem.
He had his phone rooted, with CWM recovery, he had the CM installed on the phone, but then he decided and recovered the nandroid backup and went back to the stock rom. After that he installed an update from LG that apeared in his phone, thinking it was the 2.3. But it wasn't. It was some bugfixes to the 2.2 Stock LG Rom. But with that update he losed the root, and now he can't root. Gingerbreak stucks wile rooting and SuperOneClick 2.1 gives him a "Program not responding" on his computer when trying to do the Step4.
Can someone help my friend? He doens't have a XDA account, he only reads the threads, that's why i'm putting this here instead of him.
Sorry for my bad english

Hi everyone.
I have an Optimus 2x, and when i updated it to 2.3.4 i could not use superoneclick to root my phone instead i found an answer on how to root it.
I needed to install cwm 5 and after that busybox and so on, and it worked, it was rooted.
Now i have a other problem, i have an update on my phone and when i click on installing it starts to reebot then it comes to cwm screen, there i'm stuck.
I have tryed everything there trying to update it but nothing works.
So now i am wondering if any of you can help me?
Got any idea what i can do to update or what i am doing wrong?
//Szander.
Ok, so now i did a recover so i get back my phone as it was before i installed cwm and tryed to update, it did work fine.
Until the update was done, then it stopped, and nothing i did worked the little android just stand there and looked at me.
So what now, i removed the battery and hoped for the best, now the phone would not bot at all.
After a few tears and a few swear words, i thougt about something, maybe i could use nvflash to get it all back as it was ???
I tryed closed my eyes and after a few minutes i could restart my phone and it loaded as useall, but the update was gone, ofcourse.
So now back to square one again.
Sigh (
Hi Szander,
So just to be completely clear, you're back at a perfectly stock 2.3.4 unrooted ROM and you want to root it, right?
Why not trying to follow cyanogen wiki to root it?

No.
I have cwm, and its still rooted.
What i want is to get rid of cwm so i can update to the latest update wich is v20q.
I have tryed this with recover but its only working on froyo, i belive i read it somewhere.
And when i recovered my phone then the problem really started, but thats fine now.
And as an plus is that now when i run LGMobileupdate tool its saying that i have v20q but in the phone it says that i still have v20I.
Weird.
I have read alittle more and (if i got it right) found out that i might just need to use smartflash on the phone via my computer to get rid of cwm and get a perfectly stocked phone again.
So can you help me please, hoping that you understand my problem.
Yup, as far as I know you are correct. To get your phone back to stock you need to flash a stock ROM using either smartflash or nvflash. I haven't done it so I can't guide you through it personally, but search this forum you should find the relevant threads easily enough.
If you have trouble finding it let me know I'll help you searching.
EDIT: By the way, thanks for Meshuggah, one of the best bands ever I should visit Sweden sometime
Hello again, I really need your help guys.
I installed Slim Bean 4.1.1 version(3.0.31 Semaphore) few months ago, and after I had some problems last week, so I decided to update it, but it all went wrong. Installation of 2.7 version didn't go well, first I had problems mounting system in recovery mode, and after few restartsmy phone doesn't want to boot at all. When I turn it on, it just shows Samsung logo and that's it. I can't access recovery mode also, but download mode is still available and I can enter it. Question is, what should I do now?
I know I could flash new ROM with Odin, but I don't know how to do it, and I don't know which ROM should I flash. Can anyone please explain this to me, I would be really grateful?
Thank you in advance.
just install the valye pack using odin and then root it... goodgle it will get lots of links....if you are not able find anyone let me know I will it to you..
if you plan to install JB then make sure you glash it three times as there is a change in the partition layout...

Thank you, will try it in a few minutes, download link is really slow.
I found this:
http://techdraginfo.blogspot.com/2012/06/install-new-android-236-xxjw4-value.html
Is it ok?
If I install this, and if this firmware gives me no problem, what do you think about idea that I just stick to it, and not do anything else? I don't have to root it anymore, right?
if you want to stick then no need to root it....
Now I can't connect with Odin, it doesn't recognise my device at all.
try installing usb driver....and uninstall kies
I did all that, but I still cannot connect it. I think it's down to drivers, I can't install them correctly, and I tried couple of different ones.
Hi,
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question - A bit confused from reading up all the info on upgrading to ICS on the p990.
Im running a volk custom kernel, and CM 7.2 - OS Version 2.3.7.
Whats the "best" way to upgrade to the new ICS? I tried running the LG software update but it doesnt go too well, fails after it tries to detect phone - even though it detects it initially.
Can I get the release that LG released with my setup?
Please advise.
Thanks!
Same situation here. I'm on official cm7.2 and would like to upgrade to ics. But don't think that useing official lg update tool is so good idea - it might brick your phone. It won't update to ics because you aren't running the official GB rom so lg update tool won't upgrade (correct me if i'm wrong).
Maybe the AIO tool would do the trick.
Anyways, people we need your advice!
LOL, use NVflash ICS rom like TG.
for me the best way is using the toolkit to install new partition, new bootloader and recovery
than boot into recovery and flash the room as usual
Thanks Wakata.
Much appreciated. I have tried downloading the toolkit but its always corrupt.. ill download the 7 zip format.
I take it that I will need to back everything up and wipe everything, install new partition, boot loadder and recovery(CWM??), then flash with the new rom and kernel?
I've also used the All-In-One P990-Toolkit to upgrade to ICS.
You can use 1. to backup your internal SD in case you need it later.
Then hit 4. to change the partition layout and after that 8. to flash the new unlocked bootloader. That's all.
Thanks again
Slight problem - I downloaded the 7z file, and extracted them, but cant seem to run the .cmd file? What am i doing wrong here?
scratch that last question.. for some reason the files are corrupt when i download them.. grrrr.
So I followed the instructions, and suprise suprise, I get an error -
Nvflash started
nvflash configuration file error: file not found
An error occured. Read above lines for details
Help please
Nevermind, I had a fiddle and flashed ics 6.0.xxx.. lets see how it goes. Hopefully I havent bricked it lol
Sorry, problem.
I first tried option 1, then 4, then 8.. after its all done, no errors - I boot the phone, and its stuck on the red LG logo.. I've left it there for around 10-15 mins with no luck? Help!
Haha, actually I figured it out. I did realise I didnt have a ROM! Doh! lol rookie mistake.
I downloaded this rom and kernel(1.4ghz OC) and its running pretty well, no bugs so far(touch wood)
