Greetings all.
I recently got a new sgs3, so my cappy was just sitting there.
So, even though I was still updating it, I was not really using it.
So I basically have made it a multimedia device.
I have it set on airplane mode with Wi-Fi on. Its got my music and a few games on it. I also loaded audible.com app on it and I sync all my books to it. Since audible now syncs where you are in books, this is a fantastic feature.
What do you use you're old cappy for?

I use my Captivate for music.

Still using mine!
Going strong now with a brand new 1800mAh battery and running AOKP
I flash new nightlies and use it around home / the office / the gym on WiFi when I want to conserve my Nexus 4's battery or don't want it to get broken.

Mine's getting flashed to stock and traded with my wife's whose power button stopped working. I'll use her old phone for testing apps on Gingerbread and as a backup in case something happens to the Nexus 4 or her phone.
It's been nice. Would've been 5 times nicer if GPS was adequate.

Gave it to the GF
Gave it to my girlfriend, totally converted her from iphone to android. Of course this is after itunes, or the icloud, ot something totally ate her 100 gig music collection. Now all her music is on my server and she can get to it from wherever on the cappy. She doesn't have to even pay an annual fee.
She just has to make me a sammich.
Hahaha... me too

Just picked up an s3 for the wife and a nexus 4 for myself to replace our Cappy's.
Is there ea ROM specifically designed to not be a phone? If not what ROM are you running old Cappy for non phone functions.
I've also considered use as a dashcam, but i think it might invite break-ins lol.

Simply keep the phone in airplane mode, the less widget possible and have it on conservative = best battery life for non-phone functions.
For games although, you might not wanna have it on conservative. On demand is a great middle.
use it for daily life :fingers-crossed:

I have modded the hell out of it and gave it to my girl, she's so happy cuz I gave her an android phone and she's never had a smartphone, so to her discovery of all the mods Ive done to it, she has been promoting my business so I been busy and away from here doing that and wow, who'd have thought two years ago I'd have started a business Modding and repairing computers for people...
Still my daily driver, KitKat seems to be running solid with CyanAoSP, so I guess I will use it til it breaks, which I don't think is likely to happen!

I'm getting ready to dump this sob of a phone... I mean the battery sucks so bad, I cant go a full day without it dying on me and I hardly ever use it, I'll lock my phone and look at it like 10 min later, when no apps are even running and i'll be down quite a bit of battery (I've had to tone down usage A LOT coming from an Atrix 4g, I could go a couple days with some heavy use and not have to charge it, and now it seems like whenever I get the chance I have no choice but to throw this phone on a charger)
Besides the fact of a poor battery, I've always hated LG, they have crap for customer service and phone support, I figured something might change with this phone, but nope...
I was hoping for a GB update soon, but looks like those dreams are crushed after reading something on LG forums saying they probably won't release a GB update EVER! LG and ATT can go die...
Also the community for the thrill is relativity small and it seems like Dev's have very little to offer or gave up on this phone all together...
I figured I'm going to jump back on board with the Atrix 4G or 2... I'm undecided as of right now
So this is goodbye to everyone else who is in this community and noticed my little efforts in helping Peace

Well besides all the other reasons, did you try getting a different battery. I have no problem getting over a day's life of battery out my thrill with medium useage. The only thing that really kills it are the 3d games. Stock 2.2.2, rooted with about half of AT&ts bloat ware removed. I read somewhere (not sure where) about bad batteries shipped with a lot of these phones.
Yeah, the upgrade part and lack of support are downers, but overall this phone really is good. My uncle got the new Droid Razer and my phone out performed it on all the benchmark tests that we compared head to head.
At the very least, Rogers releasing GB is a sure sign ATTs GB has to be right around the corner.
Captivate (July 2010 release - updated to froyo 8 months later)
Infuse (May 2011 release - updated to gb 8 months later)
See the pattern......it's all at&!
Well I did that Rogers GB update... aside from the huge headache it took to get on my phone and all the crap apps from Rogers and what not...its a solid update. The battery is by far better I can tell you that for sure I'm happy and might just stay with this phone if it holds up tomorrow and on Tuesday...
Its so much smoother and my internet is blazing fast compared to froyo, for those who haven't tried this, I suggest you do so ASAP.

I have a 32gb Touchpad, and a Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 is more portable, comfortable, and stable. Typing on the Nexus 7 is much easier, and faster. The battery on the Nexus lasts considerably longer than the Touchpad. The Touchpad is a nice device, but I don't use it at all now that I have a Nexus 7.
I've got a Touchpad and a 7'' Android tablet. I'm using the first one as my multimedia device and Internet browsing at home (BT keyboard + mouse) and the second one when I've to use it outside home.

On the popular topic, I bought the n7 and took it back. The screen really does feel too small after using the touch pad for so long, and performance didn't feel much different either.

If it helps, I've got both. I'm using the N7 pretty well exclusively just because it's much lighter (better for reading) and fits in my cargo pocket at work. The N7 is faster, sharper, has better support (obviously) and will have for a long time. I recently went away for a week and purposely took just the N7 to see how I would get on and was pleasantly surprised.
Downsides are, it's smaller so not as good for web browsing but is still usable, the kicker is 'no flash' since it's jelly bean. There are ways of getting round that for some things but it does mean my favourite news site is a bit crippled.

Where does the lack of flash hurt you the most? I'm seriously considering trading my TP for a N7 and I'm really worried about the web-browsing trade offs (i.e. screen size, lack of flash).

Hey since FLASH is not officially supported on jb since I started using the web browser PUFFIN it has FLASH built in its the best browser IMO. It has a trackpad built in that you can/off easily.
Its the closest to browsing on a PC I've ever seen you can put it mobile browsing mode. I've tried sky fire, opera, Firefox, stock, chrome and I like PUFFIN the best.
Checkout projectfree.tv in puffin browser compares to any other.
Puffin is also available for iOS.

We (me, my wife, and oldest son) are going to upgrade our phones soon. We have a couple of Captivates and an Infuse 4G. We have two daughters, ages 5 and 6, who love playing on our phones. We plan on giving the Captivates to them to play their games on, watch videos, listen to music etc. Basically, turn them into iPod Touch type devices. Is there an existing ROM that might be tailored to this sort of use?

I'm sitting on the fence. I would settle for the phone being stable, regardless of what OS it runs on (which is what I'm working on). I've got my TF300 for Android play.
I'm considering whether it's worth trying to go through the hassle of packaging something, or just giving this thing the boot and buying a phone outright.
I won't be renewing my contract with Verizon EVER as I never want to lose my unlimited plan.
I have two. Might go to one soon......
Still have mine. My contract is up on Jan. 26th. which is 5 months early. I am guessing they are trying to get me off unlimited data early. I got news for them... Here at work we are part of Microsoft's Customer Assurance program. We test out software and devices for them in a live enterprise environment and report back any issues. Kind of like a closed beta tester. They give us phones for various carriers. We got iPhones, android, and windows phones to test their software on. We put in for WP8 if we get confirmation then we will get Lumia 822. I will just issue myself one of those to use till I tire of it. That way I can keep my unlimited data. Fran schammo can kiss my ass that greedy corporate douche.
That last post made me laugh. Not sure a "thanks" is appropriate, but it's as close as we have to a "rep" on this forum. Lol
But yeah, I've still got my Revo. I bought a Droid 4 on Ebay so as to not lose my unlimited data. I then discovered that the Revo was still usable for everything but cellular service, so I'm still using it a bit.
It's an easy way of getting Netflix in the living room for one thing.
I'm still here too. Been trying to work on a rom but between working 6 days a week, school, getting married 2 months ago, and now a pregnant wife things have been a little crazy...
I am stuck with this phone until October. Have gotten it to run fairly stable though, VOD about once a month and a couple screen freezes a week. If I can ever finish what I'm doing I will get it posted up here.

I'm on my 2nd Revo. Now know all the tricks (RAM is precious!). Have *all* the accessories (two car docks, home dock, regular and extended spare batteries and back, wireless charging pad, and back).
I'm having trouble finding another phone I want, once I accepted the limitations:
a. must limit widgets/running apps/total apps/certain apps, in order to keep free RAM at about 80-150MB.
b. ignore aesthetics (looks, bulk, screen). This is easy for me, and I actually like the Revo.
1. RAZR Maxx HD:
- both mostly at 4.3" screen (except RAZR Maxx HD is at 4.7" when viewing videos).
- battery life similar with extended battery (but Revo can swap batteries).
- Revo has wireless charging and dedicated car and home docks, and micro SD slot.
- RAZR Maxx HD has apt-X bluetooth codec, for great music fidelity with matching apt-X headphones.
- priced at ~ $500 used.
2. Galaxy S III:
- GS III has bigger screen at price of bigger phone.
- GS III feels less robust/more prone to screen cracks due to torquing.
- GS III has apt-X codec.
- priced at ~ $500 used.
3. LG Spectrum 2:
- see GS III above, but Spectrum 2 has no apt-X, and less accessories (no LG extended battery, even).
- comes with wireless charging back.
- priced at ~$350 used.
4. RAZR M:
- M has nice, smaller form factor, but with on-screen buttons, has only 4.0" screen most of the time.
- limited storage with no micro SD slot, limited internal storage.
- non-replaceable battery.
- has apt-X codec.
- priced at ~ $350 used.
I don't want to spend ~$350 to $500 for the privilege of giving up the capabilities of wireless charging, extended battery, home dock with separate battery charger, and car dock that starts up Revo's Car Home app when Revo is inserted.

I was really fired up about getting my N7. I got it, rooted it, flashed it, bricked it, fixed it, flashed it, and then loaded it with all of the best games and every emulator… 2 days later I’m now bored and have no use for it no more than my android phone… I might try running a virtual PC but…I’m a little sad I lost interest this quickly. What is everyone else using their tablets for that keeps them from collecting dust?
I use mine all the time for gaming, Web browsing, splash top, wifi remote control, browsing forums, news, entertaining my 2 year old, navigation, banking and managing all my rss download feeds on u torrent, I am sure there is more I do I am not thinking of too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you truly loaded up the tablet with the best games you would still be playing them and wouldn't be bored after 2 days.
u could always get a comic book or ebook reader and read some stuff idk.
I bought mine primarily to replace my older Kindle so I could get books and magazines with photos that the Kindle sucks at. I like playing Angry Birds on it, but do that mostly on my phone. I also fly my AR Drone with it. I didn't buy it to be using it all day.

Almost 5000 posts since April? No wonder you can't find life.
I just keep trying the different emulators now for gaming but i dont spend a lot of time with the tablet in my hand at all
For me it's mostly the form factor. Browsing the web, reading text, etc. is very, very nice on a 7" screen and many games just look better and play better as well. Plus I love the fact that I can install Ubuntu naively on it and basically use it as a laptop replacement if I need to.

I use mine for the same reasons others have posted here, but I also have been tinkering with integrating my nexus into my (rather crude) home automation system driven by arduino. With an arduino, tasker, a bit of tinkering and programming, I'm able to open/close my garage door and control my lights with tasker using voice commands or tasker widgets on my home screen.
I have been an iPhone and ipad guy since they came out years ago and recently switched all of my devices over to nexus ones and can't be happier with the openness. When I do get a bit bored with it, I try to come up with an idea to use my nexus to make my life easier and hopefully learn something new along the way.
Good luck with your quest. And by the way, if any one is interested, I can probably throw up a tutorial describing how I achieved this.

As far as I'm concerned my phone is for when I leave the house, while my tablet is for everything else. If you're bored, then it's not the fault of the device, it just means that you don't have enough interesting content on it.

My computers purpose is to run high end software such as 3ds max and the adobe design suite, as well as a bunch of games.
My laptops purpose is to sit in my room until i buy it a new power cord, then its purpose is to be sold, or something...
My phones purpose is to text and call people, and when i dont have my tablet on me its so i can play games and sketch.
My tablets purpose is so i can browse the web, read books, play games i dont on the computer, and to be a digital sketchpad until i can afford a medium intuos 5.
Bored with your tablet? Find a purpose for it such as netflix, reading books, sketching, incessantly flashing software until you break it, etc.
