An interesting observation on N7 16gb - Nexus 7 General

My buddy and I both got 16gb N7s a few days ago. Mine was a c60k and his was a c80k, I did have a screen lift issue but was going to ignore it but we both noticed an interesting problem. After rooting and messing with some custom kernels, having issues with SOD and simply not turning back on. I got mine to turn back on after about a hour but his never did. Once I made it back to factory everything it was still acting quite bizzare...so I returned mine, got a c90k 32gb and everything has been noticeably better since. Not just in overall functionality, but speed too. Before it felt like the tablet would take long to wake up, or would move sluggish (UI/web). He also made the observation that his replacement N7 is running better too, and so far no issues (he got a c80k). Anyone else been in the same situation?

Nexus 7 Issue Reports

A couple thing's I've noticed, when doing some serious gaming, the unit gets VERY hot. We've seen this before with Teg 3 tablets COUGH*acer*COUGH, but my concern is putting a case on this thing... I'm worried that retaining all that heat might cook the thing's insides.
This will probably resolve itself, but last night I went to bed at ~80% battery, watched a movie, and when it was done, the screen turned off as normal... and when I woke up, the battery was down to 25%. My Razr Maxx had similar issues when new and apparently had to do with the OS calibrating it's battery meter.
What is everyone else seeing on theirs?
Use CPUspy to see if it was deep sleeping? BetterBatterystats to check wakelocks? Mine seems to be sleeping fine, haven't seen mine do anything weird yet
I'm not a serious gamer but I did put my N7 through about an hour of some pretty intensive gaming and it got a little warm like any device but it was never HOT to the touch. Battery life on day 1 was a bit weak but thats because I was too excited and did not give the N7 time to fully charge before playing with it.
Yesterday it was fully charged at around 2pm when I unplugged it.
Went to the library for a little over an hour and mooched their WiFi then went to my friends house.. from 4pm till midnight we were abusing my N7 pretty much constantly... showing off GNow, Maps compass mode, sports scores etc and when I got home around 1am I still had 47%.
Granted, I didn't game at all yesterday or watch much video.. but it was still being used fairly constantly.
Therr are apps that cause your device to wake. I discovered "hangaroo" does this on my wife's evo3d.
Some market apps are that annoying, just uninstall that certain app and the device shouldn't wake up randomly
on xda for android and mistyping like a boss
The only thing on my N7 that wasn't on my other Android devices was Dark Meadow: The Pact... I'm thinking, like mentioned, it's a new device issue that'll resolve itself as far as battery life. The 2nd and 3rd day with my Razr Maxx, I awoke to a dead battery, now it's rocking 2-3 days between charges.
And the heat, well, that was mostly during that Dark Meadows game and that's completely optimized for a Teg 3, so it's abusing all 4 cores plus the GPU portion of the chip. Still, not sure I'd want all that contained in some insulating case.
My Nexus 7 doesn't get hot like you described. My only issue is that the left part of my screen isn't stuck down completely. It pops up while people on reddit are saying is common. Anyone else with this issue here?

Played about two hours of GTA 3 yesterday, it did get 'warm' but not hot.
I think it really depends on how lucky/unlucky you are with the Nexus 7 unit you received. Some people are reporting a dead unit after using it for about 3 hours. Others are reporting dead pixels. And, you're reporting this...
I guess I was lucky enough to not have any of those issues with my Nexus 7.

Post 4 months (of the N7 release)

Wanted to get a feedback on the N7 run post its initial 4 months... I know all the issues reported were a small percentage from the actual, but are the old known issues resolved now? Are the latest units released from play store the next generation builds?
How's it going for you guys with the device?
I see GOOG doing a N7 with their N4 release (wow! ). Also see the ipad mini rumors coming true (wow, what a rip off). Really interested to see how's it going with this tablet?
I just bought a N7, and am loving every minute of it. The initial reviews scared me with so much going wrong such as the screen lift, GPS failure and other such reported bugs. I really haven't owned my tablet long (about a week or so) but I haven't experienced any of the complaints that were mentioned with the release. Everything works great on the device I got from office max. The main thing that all the complaints got me was a 2 year retail warranty, specifically because the manufacturer's has certain specifications for the glitches (is X number of dead pixels) for a replacement.
The 4.2 update is really all valid and mostly has to do with preference IMO. Hope this helped, because I definitely know the feeling after rummaging through this foum before buying.

I bought the original Nexus 7. I had a 16gb C80 variant. It was fine at first, but after a couple of weeks of light use (I was too scare to use it without a case), I got left hand screen lift. I took it back and got a refund. I was deciding what to do and then heard the rumours of the 32gb Nexus and thought about getting that. Then saw the 3g rumours and decided to get that.
I have heard that the latest "normal" Nexus's have improved in their build quality and that the problems of the early days are less and less. That said, I have not heard from anyone yet saying that the left side design flaw which is causing the lifted screen has been resolved. I "beleive" that they are still shipping units without the two screws on that side. It may be that is no longer the case, but I've not heard from anyone on here that it isnt. However, it seems screen lift etc is markedly reduced.
The 3g version has a re-designed rear. The microphones have been moved and there is now a sim card slot on the left side. I'm not sure if they have taken the time to address the screen lift design flaw, but my 3g has no problems currently with screen lift, bleeding, dead pixels, speaker etc. However, I've only had it a few days. I'm not about to open it up to see if its been fixed The 3g I have is a B0 serial number, so is a new model.
I was very uncertain about getting another Nexus and considered almost all the alternatives, but I'm glad I got it in the end. Currently its working great. Battery life is not the awesome figure I'm reading here of "2 days with normal use". I'm using it normally and I get a day out of it...mostly due to screen drain.
I have had mine for two months and so far I love it. My cousin bought one shortly after based on mine.

I've got an original 16gb pre-order N7. It arrived flawless and to this day has stayed that way. I use it a couple hours a day, no case and i have no complaints. Zero screen lift, no light bleed, no gps issues, speaker output is loud and clear. I Couldn't be happier.
Ya my 16gb N7 working fine since day 1. Never had any of the problems. Right now it's just the long wait for a custom ROM running 4.2 that sucks.
Have mine about 10 days (32GB) and it'll be replacing my laptop after i get an external HD to copy my music onto then laptop sold and just use the Nexus.:good:
32Gb WiFi only from Radio Shack. Some minor light bleed at top, 3 points - suspect screws are too tight. Flicker even without auto brightness on at low backlight levels persists on 4.2 even with strong WiFi signal - even with other custom kernels. Fix for all? Though hitting the battery - I just turn the brightness up a notch or two.
16Gb WiFi - flawless. No light bleed. Flicker very nominal, even yellow screen tint is very faint.
Newer Versions - not all issues are fixed yet. Go for replacement on the 32Gb? Haven't made up my mind yet. I suspect I will suffer the same issues with a replacement and not sure it's worth my time.
I'd picked up the 16gb one initially but that had a horrendous and completely washed out screen so took a refund and ordered a new one from another place and this one has been perfect. I love it and it's completely replaced my phone.

One persons humble opinion...

Knock on wood....I seem to have gotten a great phone. No yellowing, no scratches, ear quality is good and the rattle is imperceptable. Beyond that, the phone is amazing. I have very little complaints and they are nothing to do with the phone. I don't like the clock on the lock screen......but again that's not the phone. Its fast, sleek, comfortable, and just downright......right. To all of you complaining, I'm sorry your device is not the be all end all. That said, my wife will be getting one 4-5 weeks. As a side note, I ordered on the 13th, b/o email on the 15th. I got shipping confirmation with the second wave. Received it yesterday the 27th.

I received mine yesterday too and I love it. It is so fast and smooth, it's insane.
Coming from a Galaxy S2 with a 800x480 resolution to an IPS 1280x768 resolution. The change is mind-boggling.
I really love this phone. The last time I was so in love with the design of a gadget was when I got my Sony Clie NX80v. Not even mine iPad (which I think is gorgeous) doesn't even match up. IMO. I'm just in love with all the detailed designs of the phone. Rounded edge of the screen, the glittery back, the notification light. Everything.
I know how you feel. I am totally in love with my nexus to. I received it on the 27th as well. From the screen to the design, the notification sounds, the feel, the weight, even the camera has been impressive at times. I love the touch buttons. Gaming is great. Also I did a tweak and my HSDPA speeds are blistering fast.

I got mine last night at around 8:30pm so I am still getting used to it but so far I am truly amazed. I hope the op doesn't mind me posting my review. I know if I created a thread it would just be closed. N This happens every time I create a thread here.
After reading the complaints here I expected a rattling, yellowing, battery dying, bug filled phone that looks nice.
Instead I found a beautiful device. The rattling had been so exaggerated and granted that maybe others are really worse, mine only rattles of trying to make it do so. It is nothing.
In regards to the glass breaking on its own or scratching by just having it on your pocket, etc.. It seemed possible to me before b but now that I have the phone out seems very unlikely. I just am not buying that this glass is super weak. I am not saying a drop will not break it. I just really cannot understand how it could break on its own the person carrying it knowing.
The yellowing, when viewed at extreme angles is the only time I see any color change and it is not nearly add bad as I thought it was going to be. I have not deliberately tried to get it hot, I have not done benchmarks. So far the screen in the most accurate and crisp display I have ever seen. This is the first smart phone i have been able to actually see outside in the sun. I was out earlier. I just turned up the brightness to not even half and I had no trouble.
Speaking of brightness, I have heard complaints from people seeing spots of yellow with full brightness. I honestly cannot understand why anyone would use this phone at full brightness. It seems so bright and sharp to me even at half brightness.
I have not had it the phone but I think the battery life issues have also been exaggerated in a negative way. I was pleasantly surprised to find the battery doing very well. I had maybe 74% at 8:30 when I turned it on for the first time. I spoke on the phone for 45 minutes, had Google install all my apps, I used blue tooth, android beam, and had GPS on the entire time and when I finally went to bed at around 3am the battery was at 60%. This seemed amazing.
I hooked up the charger when I went to bed. FYI-i keep the box and let it sit in the cut out while charging or anytime I put it down. I put it there to charge and when I got up at 5:15 it was full. I have no complaints so far about the battery out anything else.
Ok, the one issue did have was after I had just set up my tmob account was the signal quality. I was in my basement office when I called simple mobile. I had a very bad connection. This was less than 10 minutes after I activated. I always had great reception with my i9001 s plus.. What is really strange though is that I just tested call quality a f minutes ago from my office and now the quality and reception is perfect. Maybe it took time for the signal to sync or something.. Not sure but it seems fine now..
Last thing is hspa speeds..I am currently using the tmob APN that was default on the device so who knows if this is even correct but upstairs I got download speed of around 10.5 mb and upload I can't remember but it was not so great. GPS and WiFi seem normal..
All in all I am really happy with this phone and it was really with ask the **** we went through.
I wanted to mention that I found some type of a you gel case at amazon yesterday for .47 .. Not a typo.. 47 cents!! The same case was selling for $12.. Just search amazon and set your max price filter low. This price may have been changed by now though. Oh yeah, shopping was less than $3.. I figured I would use this until i get the bumper. I may also put a transparent even protector on the back..
Thanks all.. So glad I finally got this!!! Did I say this phone is blistering fast??? Smooth... Also, the touch screen works perfectly for me. I can see some having an imaginary issue due to comparing a number on a test app that is not even meant for this type of a screen but numbers aside, the touch even would perfectly and I did not notice any issue at all.. Don't listen to all of the complaints.. Many are over exaggerated.. some are lies..
Holy **** Batman!! This is my longest post ever on XDA!!!!

I'm with you guys. My first unit had a problem -- the camera LED didn't work. I just received my replacement last night, and I'm extremely happy with it. I can't believe I got this contract-free for $300.

Need feedback...

I'm currently looking into the Droid Turbo as I need options on a new phone. My Note 4 has been replaced twice, on my third phone with horrible screen issues. Had the iP6+, really bad screens and iOS sucks. Came from a year with the Moto X and it served me well, but bad battery life and bad burn-in forced me to get a new phone.
Needless to say, I'm limited on phone choices currently. I originally looked at the Turbo when it came out but the lack of brightness and no voice/data turned me off. But since it got the AC 1.0 update, that's a step in the right direction. I've also been told that the brightness issue has been resolved as well, but no one can seem to confirm it.
So, those of you that have had the Turbo, would you buy it again? How's the real battery life? Voice/data working great? How about screen issues, as far as discoloration or uniformity?
Thanks!
32 hours on, 4 hours of screen on time.. Still have 26% remaining. No regrets.
Anyone else?
I am really loving this phone. I had a couple small complaints, but they were patched with the last update. Battery life is awesome. Simultaneous voice and data working now. The screen is gorgeous. I would definitely buy again .If you need any more convincing watch this. His reviews are always spot on.
Battery life is phenomonal
I can't use voice and data and I took the update, tried it just last night.
Coming from a Galaxy S3... both me and my wife. Both of us are very happy. Screen is plenty bright. Not seeing any obvious screen uniformity issues... I haven't been "looking" for them, but I tend to notice things like that quickly, so it's good enough, at least. Battery life is far better than the S3, as expected... I guess I'm not a heavy user in that sense. Certainly would recommend this device (or the MotoX).

Have you enabled HD Calling? It won't work until you have done that.
Non HD call quality with Advanced Calling enabled is a little quirky. The last update addressed all the issues mentioned in early reviews AFAICT. I get 33 hours battery life on average and 4 1/2 hours screen on.
Definitely would buy again.

My wife and I also came from the S3 and we love this phone, no regrets at all.
I am very happy with mine. I see no issues related to screen brightness. VOLTE and data work just fine. I did have a speaker issue with my first device, which was among the first batch produced. I had it replaced with one from a newer batch and have had no issues thus far. If you are particular about your devices, I think there are few options that are "perfect" in their quality control. The devices are too complicated, with too may features, to expect that they will all leave the factory perfect.

Digitizer issue?

Hey guys, so I've just recently gotten a Note 5 (W8) for pretty cheap. At first, the lack of expandable memory was really hard to handle, because I'm used to backing up everything daily. However, I've come to like the phone, because I really missed Samsung and all it's awesome features.
I purchased the phone with the caveat that it didn't respond to touch, and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and I saw that only a small portion of the screen was affected. Basically from a little above the dock area and below. The home, back, and recent buttons aren't affected, and I'm able to use the S-Pen on the area that doesn't respond to touches.
Before I bought the phone, I read online that the issue may be related to a bad digitizer or maybe the touch software just needed to be updated through the dialer. Well, I've completed the touch update several times and the issue still persists, so now I'm at the point where I think that this might be hardware related and I just wanted to get some opinions and expertise from you guys.

I wish mine was like that, it's perfect except for that one issue. At first, I was going to attempt opening the phone and swapping out the digitizer, but after watching a few videos on the dismantle, I've decided I'm not brave enough for that. It's on the same level as opening up an S8 or a Note 8. I miss the days of the removable battery.
