I did that change as well; however, i cannot change the hotspot name. Can you?

Weird, mine blocks me from changing it
I use Droid Bionic method and it works. It's almost the same as Atrix method. Only we need to type check in settings and change entitlement to 0.
Can anyone post the specific app they're using for SQLite and tell my where exactly to go? I tried the method in the OP but couldn't find it. Sorry for the nooby question. I'm a fairly seasoned vet of Android devices, I'm just having trouble with this one. I'm rooted I just can't find the right file path in SQLite Manager.

This is what I had to do to get tethering to work:
Based on what I read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962752
1. In the settings.db change dun_apn_changeable to 1 (line 122)
2. Create an APN named Tethering and copy all the settings from your provider's APN. Enter ",dun" in the APN Type.
I did not need to make it active.

Per OP
- Phone has to be rooted
- entitlement_check changed to 0 (or disabled)
I used aShell and aSQLiteManager, which are free. The file is in data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db entitlement_check is line 107 for me.
Apparently it's an APN issue. There's more info in the thread I linked. If I understand it correctly T-Mobile has a hidden APN for tethering. You can either replace it with modified APNs, as suggested in that thread or what I did was change the setting so that the tethering APN can be changed and then create my own. The AT&T APNs aren't used when on the T-Mobile network, so there's no reason to delete them.
Thanks, I know you have to use epc.tmobile.com with T-Mobile network. Just didn't understand the part of using SQ editor to disable the lock.

How-To Adblock Without Rooting (mobile data adblock working)

I didn't see this readily available and with many people not wanting to root and trip their Knox counter, I thought I'd show you how to get adblocking without root. This will work on both wifi and mobile data.
--First step would be to install Adblock Plus APK. I got mine from: https://adblockplus.org/en/android-install
--After installing, run the app once and activate filtering. It should now be blocking all ads on wifi only. To enable adblock on mobile data you need to add a proxy to your APN.
--Go to system settings>network connections>more networks>mobile networks>access point names. What you need to do now is go to you default APN and copy down all the settings. We only do this because you cannot edit the original APN it seems. Now create a new APN and enter in the copied settings. The only additional settings you add to add to the new APN is:
---Proxy: localhost
---Port: 2020
Make sure you set the new APN you created as active and adblocking should be working! I have done this on my T-mobile S5. Hopefully some of you will find this useful.
I can confirm this works, just tested it several times. Thanks!
Gonna give this a test.

I had to modify my proxy for wifi and the app seems to be working (I need to find something that has ads, ha)...but I'm unable to modify my AP on my sprint s5.

Sometime Adblock Plus crash... quite annoying.
I've decided to root mostly for AdAway ...
it works well on tmobile croatia , just added new apn
Thanks for this, it works, but have to manually add proxy and port to every single wlan network.
It is working for me.
It doesn't seem to work with Verizon phones. Anyone no verizon get this to work? Apparently you can't even create new APN's on verizons s5
Works great. Thanks so much!!!!!!
Works!
And we have to do this settings in every wifi network or just once ?
Thanks
Followed instructions exactly. Filtering says enabled, new APN selected. Still not working for me. AT&T variant S5.

Back after health issues [GUIDE] [HOW TO] [FIX] MMS sending error on 5.1 to 7.1 AOSP and CM\LOS based roms

Why? a bit of background: With the arrival of Cyanogenmod 12.1 I noticed I could not send or receive MMS messages anymore. This turned out to be the case with all Lollipop 5.1x ROMS Cyanogenmod and AOSP and now on Marshmallow and Nougat. Something had changed in the way it was built that didn't work with my carriers APN. I figured out it was because my carrier uses a double APN so I thought i would try to merge them together and it worked, I now have to do this on every 5.1x ROM i flash so hopefully it will work for you too if your carrier uses a double APN . This seems to work for Telstra users but has worked for other telco users too I can't guarantee it will work for you.
UPDATE
Thanks to @erosco :good: for all his hard work, determination and troubleshooting to come up with a solution for all User's of the GT-I9305, and more than likely other Galaxy models (and possibly other devices) out there that use a separate APN for Internet and MMS. erosco has stated that he added
ro.telephony.mms_data_profile=5
to his build.prop and he was able to get MMS working. @rodman01 has stated he will add this fix for user's in the future rom releases for his roms to have it "out of the box" :good: ,also I can't thank @erosco enough for finding a proper solution, please hit his thanks button http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help-i9305/enable-mms-5-1-aosp-roms-t3183220/post69843704 for solving this for us. Also attached is a screenshot erosco took to show what the build.prop should look like.
The app used in the screen shot is BuidProp Editor by JRummy you can download it here from playstore --> BuildProp Editor .To make it easier to give support please use that app if you are experiencing issues.
Ok so Basically I have by default a APN for data and another for MMS like in the first screenshot, but the way my APN is set by default it turns 4g to ! (on Marshmallow data doesn't break but just keeps saying sending MMS) When I send a MMS . So what I did was copy the APN information in MMS APN to the MMS section which was blank in the data APN like in the screenshots. The 2 and 3 screenshot is my default MMS APN so I copied that to the MMS section of the data APN like you can see in 4 and 5 screenshot to merge it .leave it as is but just add the MMS stuff were it applies and add MMS to APN type for instance my APN type now looks like this default, supl, mms also don't forget to add MMSC address and do not delete MMS APN ( thanks to @Fritly for the info) or it won't work. If you are still unable to use MMS read and try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67711840&postcount=4063 thanks to @noc.jfcbs :good: and @Wood Man :good: If their posts help please hit their thanks button.
Hope this helps if anyone has anymore questions just ask I'll be glad to help. Thanks to @Anghirrim for testing :good:

Yes on optus a double apn works so you don't need to do it, its for people who can't send mms because of the way there telco (mine is telstra) uses the double apn.
Edit: updated thread with a clearer explanation
Do you have to keep the old MMS apn together with the merged APN? People only receive a link when i send an MMS

Hi, I didn't delete my mms apn but you could try, just make sure you write it down just in case you need it later. Could you post a couple of screen shots of your merged apn for me to look at? Is your data connection breaking? if it's sending than its working so it may be another problem.

OK. If you get sick of KitKat and you do want to use a lollipop ROM with working MMS try 5.0 ROMs like cm 12.0 instead of 12.1, MMS works on 5.0 the problem only started occurring on 5.1. My giude only works for 50% of people for some reason.
I just used this fix. I am also with Telstra. I had already tried using a single APN which fixed the 4G dropout issue however when going to the single APN I would delete the standalone MMS APN. Don't do that. Keep both APNs or else you still won't be able to send MMS.
Thanks

You need to create a new APN and write the same settings as your original one except for the IPv4 Part. I'm currently using wifi tether router without any issues.

APN Settings ghosted/grayed?

I'm trying to change my APN settings on my phone and the settings are ghosted/grayed out and will not allow me to change anything. Also new APN will not save.
Anybody know how to fix this?
Btw... I'm on stock ROM rooted with Franco kernel and T-Mobile is my carrier. Previous phone was a never 5x with same SIM. No problems.
Having the same problem here. T-Mobile support is asking me to change APN settings to troubleshoot network speed, but I'm unable to do so.

Yeah, the default APNs are all grayed out but you can add APN for sure, I did it and it sticks too. see attachment.
When I inserted SIM card, the default APNis the one on top GPRS, I found data speed is slow. So I added one which is US LTE one.

Thanks Lancez. I also tried adding a new one. I tapped save in the menu, but it did not get added to the list. I wonder if it's a bug in the particular build we're on. I'm currently running ONEPLUS A3000_28_170208.

I had also tried to restore default, but it didn't help.
I did just manage to get it to work. I added a new APN with the name "test" and was able to save. I was then able to go in and edit it to match the settings t-mobile had suggested to me.
Unfortunately the new settings did not help with my speed issue.
Thanks again for the help Lancez.

There's another thing, after you edited your APN, go to phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#* > phone info > from the first drop down menu choose LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) > back out of settings > reboot, you should be able to get much better data speed.
And from SIM & network settings, there's Prederred network type, don't select anything in there, leave them all blank. otherwise above settings will be reverted back.
What APN settings did T-mo CS told you? care to share with us? it'll save us sometime over the phone.

Argh, I am a dummy. I tried scrolling down, but not up. Thanks again.
I changed the setting, but my speed is still about the same.
T-mobile is now telling me that they are making improvements in my area that should resolve this in the future. Though don't know if they were just saying that to get rid of me. I've gone from what used to be 50+Mbps in November to between 1 and 5 Mbps now.

I also have two different phones on the account. Which are both getting similar speed results. So seems likely it's got to either be an account or network issue. Though I figured it couldn't hurt to play along and try the updated APN settings to further rule it out.
