[Q] CM10 battery life and other stuff - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is the first time I have flashed a custom ROM.I recently flashed the latest stable CM10 with the JB semaphore kernel and its been great so far as far as performance goes. But the main issue is the battery life, on moderate usage it seems to only last 10-12 hours. I tried the usual fixes like changing my modem, battery calibration and also making sure the com.media.process was not running continuously(using better battery stats app), and it seems to have slightly improved.
Questions are
1)Is this normal battery life to be expected from CM10?
2)Does CM9 have a better battery life than CM10?
3)Are there any other JB roms that will give me a somewhat bug-free plus high performance/good battery life?
4)Is the current stable CM9 more suited for everyday usage than CM10? I read that CM10 still has lots of bugs and issues?
Thanks in advance guys

My battery in JB lasts for maximum 10 hours

So there are no JB roms that have good battery life?

This is very important question for me, need to know witch ROM is better cm9 or cm10? battery draining extremely fast(8 hours aprx.)
Did someone tested this issue?

I'm not sure if I want to downgrade even if the battery life is better but I'm interested in this matter too.
Actually my only issue with JB battery life seem to be a rom issue ...

Yeah there is clearly something wrong with your installation. I am running CM10 Fishears Nightly, JB Semaphore 2.6.0 Old, XXJW4 radio and I usually have about 70% battery left at the end of a working day when I put my phone on the charger as I go to sleep. On a usual day, I listen to about 2hrs music on the train and do some light browsing/games throughout the day.
Here are my Semaphore settings:
Governor: Ondemand w/ Smooth UI enabled
Active scheduler: Simple I/O
Deep Idle Enabled
SAI Enabled
SD Card read ahead: 256KB
Normally the only apps that run in the background on my phone are:
BLN
Voodoo Sound
GO SMS
Settings
SwiftKey
WidgetLocker
Widgets
This way I don't have crap pulling my phone out of sleep all the time. On CM10 you should be able to get at least 2-3 days out of a single battery charge.

here my batterystatts i use stock cm10 with the newest nightly and the stock kernel sheduler noop govenor ondemand my 3g is enabled and i use more or less hole day wlan. i have the original battery.

Rom with the best battery life?

Yea, so iam looking for a ROM which has the best battery life!
My uses:
Wifi
Half an hour of app usage(excluding messaging and calling)
constant messaging
slight OC, 710 Mhz
3 to 4 hours of calls each day!
Iam currently on the Hybrid V.5 Rom, and although the battery life has improved since V.4! but iam still looking for Senseless or sense ROM with speed, stability and a great battery life!
Just SetCPU itself can achieve this. Create a profile with low max speed (352) and min speed (245) when the Screen is off. You will notice a dramatic increase in battery life. Lastly, 710 MHz is not a "slight" OC by any means.
Although, with your usage pattern, it seems you are a pretty heavy user, so, I doubt you will see too much of a potential change with this. For the record, after I created the SetCPU Profile, battery life has gone up for me from about 1.5 days to more than 2 days now (Sometimes 3- 3.5 days with light usage), and, the scenario was similar on both, WildPuzzle 2.2.1 and CM7. (It is better though with CM7, so I am assuming AOSP ROMs are better battery managers than Sense ROMs)
CM7 for is best for battery life. But i didnt try all roms, but much.
I'd have to recommend CM7 Nightlies.
It's just so good.
For example:
Battery is fully charged at midnight, went to sleep while listening to songs and when I woke up the next morning it's still at 100%. I also do constant messaging. Other than that, I'm on WiFi and have set the phone to run in 2G mode only.

dont mind but this seems absurd must be something wrong try to boot into recovery and clear battery stats before you put it to charging next time..

agree with you
Definitly CM7 it's far the best for battery saver, cause Gingerbread was created also for that pourpose.

[Q] NC discharges quickly while on standby CM7/Stock1.01...

Hey guys,
I'm experiencing rapid battery discharge while Nook Color is in standby mode, battery life used to be great while on standby but after using CM7 on sdcard it's nearly discharges like when it's fully working...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
sounds like your battery maybe on its death throws.. or perhaps you have too many background processes suckin up juice.. we need more info to be helpful
Reboot without card in and check stock performance. They shouldn't affect each other. Plus CM should have better battery life very soon.
Are you running the performance governor? this would keep your CPU at max ALL the time. if you are try switching to Interactive.
Does anybody know how the batter performance in standby mode for CM7.0.2 compares with stock?
Could you tell me when when the CM7 battery tweaks are coming?
Also, could somebody tell me how to maximize battery time when using Nook?
Lots of questions! Thanks in advance.
I was on cm7 but the battery drain was an issue for me. There is no fix currently but the awesome folks at the cm7 team are supposedly going to iron this out soon. Stock should last at least twice as long on standby.
If you use the nook mostly at home I would lower the display brightness all the way down, and completely shutdown at night.
Assuming not overclocked, in use CM7 is very similar to the stock ROM because the screen and backlight are taking most of the power.
In standby the stock ROM is around .2%/hr with wifi off. CM7 is around 1%/hr with wifi off.
I have CM7 nightly build 55 on my Nook and the battery life is amazing.
Besides the feedback others suggested, check to see if you have things actively running in the background. Is the setting to keep Wifi on in standby turned on? That could do it. Do you have some funky mail client on their set to check every 5 minutes or something?
I think the best suggestion was the one previously about taking the SD card out and run it as stock to see how the battery life compares. If it is fine with stock, then you know something goofy is going on with your CM7 install and I would just start over on that with the newest nightly, etc.
My batt stats say Phone idle and Cell Standby are 22% and 17 % over a 12 hr period. So those are what are killing me and the NC isn't even a phone.

No, they are doing nothing. Move along.

Battery performance even on overclocked nootered 1.2 Nook Color is great. I am getting drain of less than 0.2% compare to closer to 2% on cm7.
This is due to cm7 not having full sleep.

Thanks for your reply Canadoc!
Do you know how Stock 1.2 ROM's battery performance compares to that of Nook Froyo 0.6.8 R7 ROM?

[Q] The least battery drain ROM?

As what the title says.
SGS has a good performance, but uses really a lot battery in every ROM.
Which one uses the least?
Stock ROM.
there are millions of threads out there explaining battery life and which ROM has best battery life.
is there really any need for another pointless thread ??
battery will get worse if you leave stock ROM, it might change a lot or a little, so if battery life is important to you, stay on a stock ROM
Oh I am sorry.
I find lots of threads about battery life but I didn't find any about which ROM has the best battery life.
And I assumed that there will be some tweaks to have better battery life.
there are many tweaks, including finding the right kernel and undervolting it.
avoid using task killers- they do more harm than good.
stay away from CM7 - MIUI these have battery drain bugs
the list is endless, i would recommend making your own rom at www.romkitchen.org
only cook stuff into the rom that you will use, there are many roms out there packed full of **** we dont use, thus leading to battery drain.
just be wise when choosing
out of old experiences
best i tried was a combo of rom and kernal
insanity rom with a laststufo kernal
of course it isn't the latest version of either but i remember it gave me a big batt diff
usually lasted from 6am to 1pm afternoon before the batt ran out
but with that combo it lasted a full day 6am to 10pm and had about 40% left
also optimized with tasker to watch net usage with screen off and a net check every 10 mins for email notification
found out default email app was bugged so forwarded all my hotmail emails to gmail and that fixed that
now after getting me a lot o spare batteries hell i run thru 3-4 batts a day with everything on and i mean everything with OC as well , hell lot of msn, twitter, facebook, games, browsing im all fun now woohooo ^_^ TY Chinese wall battery chargers ^_^
I use Gemini App Manager to control which app that runs during startup and that helps tremendously to battery life. Juice Defender helps too if you have 3G on. This way you can use any ROM you like and not get too much battery life difference.
I also feel that Gingerbread in general seems to improve on battery life, but I was only on Froyo for 2 days since getting the phone so not a very wide assessment

Huexxx kernel 4.0 with mod battery drain

Helloy guys will the kernel I told above 10 hours maxmium battery without touching the phone you know what does this mean it means without doing anything only alarm rigs 6 min and switched off the battery finishes in 10 hours why??
CM7 300-1000MHZ
for more specific deep sleep(by cpy spay) is 97%
Battery use
Mobile stand by 48%
phone signal 38%
Android OS 4%
display 4%
also the charging is too slow charging 1% / 10 min
It's CM7 bug. Heuxxx kernel is good, but it's old. Doesn't have latest CM7 commits which fix aspects of the kernel code.
Try boype's kernel but i still get max 16hrs of battery use on any CM7 rom. I think it would be wise to stay away from CM7 based roms until a fix comes if battery drain is an issue for you.

Stock 5.1.1 910T3 Kernel with extended battery fix?

Hi guys/gals.
Is there a "stockish" kernel out there for 5.1.1 910T3 that has the zerolemon/extended battery fix? I was using Beastmode 1.8b but the performance compared to stock is not that great. Lots of UI lag, dropped frames, etc etc. I sincerely appreciate the hard work that Freeza is doing but for my daily driver I need something snappier.
Has anyone applied the zerolemon battery fix to a stock kernel?
I don't have the zero lemon, I have the MPJ 6440 however the Beastmode 1.8b worked PERFECTLY all the way to 1% and the shut down as expected. I think the fix is basing battery % off of voltage instead of counting mAh consumption so it's "universal" and works with any battery size.
I'm running TEKXodus 6.7 if that makes a difference.
I have tried the "standard" way of battery calibration with Beastmode 1.1.1 (stock kernel) however it does not work. I have charged fully, drained battery completely until shutdown, then charged to full green light with phone turned OFF, then drained battery, charge with phone off. Done this 4 times in a row (took about a week!) but I still get 1% lasting for 4+ hours. I'm using RootDim to change brightness level back to full brightness but would much rather have the more elegant solution.
I've never dabbled in editing a kernel, but if anybody knows where the source is (if it is available) I'd love to atleast look in it to see if there's something I can do with the battery calculations. I know enough to be dangerous, and figure as long as I have a backup what's the worse that can happen.
Try emotion r23 zerolemon with senthils nightmare profile on kernel auditor. You will be set for all your issues
You can try the BeastMode beta, or try a different rom with the same kernel.
