Greetings,
I'm currently running Jelly Bean Rocket Rom V1 on my GT-N7000 and I want to flash XXLS7 on it.
Now my problem is with the kernel, now looking on the kernel version in my device, it shows me this:
3.0.31-302285
[email protected] #2
SMP PREEMPT True Oct 9 21:53:25 KST 2012

Which as far as I'm concerned is the kernel that comes with the ROM.
What I want to know is this:
In the instructions on how to install the ROM it says that I need to make sure that I have a "safe brick free kernel" installed.
Is that kernel safe and brick free?
And how do I know what kernels are compatible with the particular android version I'm running on my phone and if they are safe to flash new roms with them?
Thanks in advance.

yes this being edited kernel by Philz is safe to flash and wipe from.
there is a thread with all the custom kernels, in there you can look for the compatible kernels for the ROM youre running.
Yes the kernel is safe, flash the ROM you want and enjoy

Hello all,
I am really sorry to start thread like this i am new to this, but i serched before and could not find any answer. So starting thread.
I have curretly Anidroid Rom and kernal from Anidroid which i got from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761190
Now I really liked the performance of this rom, but it dont have s-pen feature, also the inbuilt apps, like dev devloper and other are really no use for me. So i would like to go for stock rom again as samsung is providing ICS 4.0.4 update to another countries.
But for the same performance like this rom, I would like to know can i use this ANIDROID KERNAL 3.0.36 with stock ICS? Also After doing this, will performance reamin same like now?
Also how to do it, I assume i should flash the stock rom, by flashing abyss kernal 1st. and in last i should flash Anidroid kernal, is this right?
One more thing i would like to know, that i am from India So there is no stock update available, then can i use update which is provided for another countries? and which will you recommend as Open Germany, Singapore (SingTel), Singapore or Malaysia?
Or i should wait for update for India?
My current details of mobile.

In theory it's possible... there are no reasons for the principal differences in the Kernel sources between Stock and CM brunches.. It's Linux with Android part of code and Samsung drivers.. but it needs testing for the issues prevents AniDroid and many other CM Source-based kernels working correctly on Stcok ROMs..

Theory is sometimes far from reality. I have yet to see a "universal" kernel for N7000 that can do what the OP wants.

Hi, I need help with my Galaxy Note. I just buy secondhand Galaxy Note, it has XXLS2 4.1.1 rom for now. I want flash AOSPA 4.2.1 rom on it. My previous phone was HTC HD2, so I'm used to flashing without limitation So, I need your help to tell me if I'm thing good about it. So, firstly I must flash Philz kernel for my phone, to get root and recovery. But for my rom is only version 2.7... is it safe to flash? And next I can just do full wipe, reboot, and flash AOSPA 4.2.1 rom, yes?
You won't be able to flash a aokp rom using philz 2.7 as it will not install and error 7.
-Install Philz and gain root and cwm
-Then place all the required files to flash the rom to storage.
-Then flash a different safe kernel like hydracore or cm kernel.
-Boot into recovery and do wipes and formats and flash. the rom. (while on a different kernel you might not be able to boot into the rom. Just recovery)
And version 2.7 is safe? Why there is no 3.99 version for this rom? But when I finally flash PA rom, I can stay with kernel included in this rom? Or I need to flash cm kernel second time? I'm going to make backup before flashing new rom, but I'm just wondering if I can normally recover this on PA rom or I need to flash stock philz kernel before restoring... So the "diffrent safe" kernel may be "Kernel_CM10.1_20130126_Nightly_CWM.zip", yes? It will work with aosp based pa rom? I'm going to flash 2.99 version...

Yes 2.7 is safe. Just that it cannot install some roms.
Because it's and old kernel.
Yes stay with the kernel included in the rom
Yes PA has a safe kernel and the backup can be restored.
Any kernel like hydracore or cm will do.
Also 2.99 PA might not to that's stable. So.. Your choice. You can use and older version like 2.57 as well
Actually Philz 2.7 is ICS/older JB, and therefore not subject to error 7. Good to wipe and Flash ROMs with. (It's safe too)

GT N7000
hi frds i am having a issue with Amnix Xperia ROM Build 3 for GT N7000. After I installed my antivirus & later when it finished scanning for malware it gives warning about one app - MALICIOUS APP
VOODOO-INSTANT-ANTI-EXYNOS-MEM-ABUSE-0.3.APK
EXPLOIT.EXYNOS.A
can someone pls help....is it a virus....
It's already replied in the noob friendly thread
I forget to reply, sorry. Thanks! It is all working good, so I have now my Galaxy Note with newest Paranoidandroid rom
So I'm still pretty clueless about a rooted phone and I've had Ultimate XXLSC for months now.
Questions
1.) I can't help but think that when I rooted and flashed Hydracore, on the about phone > kernel version, it says Hydracore (I don't remember the version). But when I flashed Ultimate, the kernel name changed. It now says 3.0.31-593490 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 27 02:33:05 KST 2012. What happened? I didn't do anything besides rooting & flashing Hydracore and a custom ROM.
2.) Since the kernel name changed, I assume that the custom ROM changed the kernel (or maybe not. I really have no idea). Do I have to re-flash Hydracore and then flash another custom ROM?
3.) Can I really flash any custom ROMs (namely TouchWiz, MIUI, CM9, CM10, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid) with Hydracore kernel (because I plan on flashing JellyBam and some other ROMs I can't remember right now)? Do I need to flash a specific version of Hydracore (if there is any) to be able to flash a certain ROM?
Thank you for the patience and time to read my n00b questions.
I don't wanna look dumb with a bricked Note because I didn't ask/consult someone about my concerns.
No you don't need to flash the hydracore kernel again. Right now you are using a custom rom so it's already with the cwm from where you can falsh another rom

Thanks.
About my 3rd question, can I flash ANY custom roms? Why is there a custom ROM that says "Make sure to run CM9/10 or an AOSP-based ROM : FLASHING/WIPING FROM STOCK ICS OR ROMS BASED ON STOCK ICS WILL RESULT IN A BRICK!" What does Make sure to run CM9/10 or AOSP based ROM mean?
It's just a example for making sure the flasher must be on a safe kernel. They simply mean don't wipe from stock ics kernel. It can be any custom kernel you can do wipe and flash any new custom rom

Right guys heres the info...
Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000
Rom Version: Ultimate XXLSC ROM
Build number: Ultimate XXLSC JellyBean 4.1.2 v5.1
Kernel Version: 3.0.31 - 593490 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 27 02:33:05 KST 2012
Now thats out the way let me explain this as clearly as possible.
All i basically want to do is to update my v5.1 to v6.
Well i read through everything and read that I had to be on a safe kernel.
To where my understanding goes I should be doing this:
Going into CWM > wiping the data and stuff > then booting back into CWM using the advanced tab > then installing the new version of the ultimate rom.
I dont need to be flashing philz new version-ed kernel via odin? because the truth is I DNT KNOW HOW TO!! lol
Is that what I should be doing or something else?
Please Help Guys
Appreciate the help Lads.
If your on ultimate ROM already then you should have the kernel that was with the ROM which is safe but your not sure you can flash philz kernel with cwm just download the one for your ROM version in .zip form and flash as normal also with philz kernel you will still have the stock version showing up in your info because his kernel is stock so if your on an custom jb ROM then your kernel is safe just flash as normal another thing is that philz kernel is a touch interface in recovery that is a easy way of knowing if its philz or not but like I said jb and cwm is safe

Thanks Darkness.. very helpful... Will be flashing the new rom now... Thanks again
Hi just got my self a Note 1 and are reading up on how to Root and install a custom rom.
I have the latest stock 4.1.2 and an unknown root with CWM. Was root on it when i bought it.
Kernel says 3.0.31-906407 ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #3 smp preempt Mon mars 11 17:57:42 KST 2013
Since i´m scared to emmc brick my note i´m very careful to read guides.
But i´m confused.. I fund this guide http://techiejerry.com/install-cyanogenmod-10-2-android-4-3-on-galaxy-note-n7000/
And these Gapps http://www.teamandroid.com/gapps/
Is it really this simple? No wipe at all? No brick bug risk there?
Is it the Devs that decides if you should use Odin or flash in CWM?
If the guide in my link is not right, please please link kernel and a stable rom for me with clear instructions. I can´t stand the slow and buggy stock Jelly Bean anymore.
I was very fond of Custom Stock ROM 5.0™ Edition on my SGS2, is the a similar rom fore Note?
I´m not a complete beginner on this, but different guides and the emmc brick bug is making me insecure on what to do.
And yes, i will read all can read here on xda, because i want to learn. But i need to start on solid ground so to speak

Nope, there isn't same ROM as on s2.
Seems like the installation guide is pretty good.
Just flash some good kernel like philz, then go to cwm, wipe data and system (make sure You format system) and then just flash new ROM. That's it. Wait for boot
Thanks for your answer.
Is there a similar rom based on stock Jelly Bean or just a custom rom based on stock Jelly Bean you can recommend?
Basically i´m looking for a stable rom with no issues.
Link to philz? There a few i think?
Did you mean this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Can i install all roms with that kernel?
Now i get confused.. you think it´s pretty good. But is does not say wipe data and system (make sure You format system).
So if i followed the guide it would have failed?? Yes?
Don't follow any guides not on xda. Period.

But im not sure if i have to change kernel. But if i have to this is the one right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
And this file PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.11.2-signed.zip
Edit: I now have this PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.11.2-signed.zip installed.
Edit 2: I installed Official CM10.2 kernels for flashing purposes and then Asylum CM10.2 Naughties rom.
Seems to be working.

I have written to change the kernel because I wanted to make sure You will have a good kernel. Else You might have had problems flashing new rom. Anyway almost every rom has its kernel included
