[Q][i9001] CM10 not booting - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have an SGSplus (i9001) and I've been using arco68's and ivendor's CM9 ROMs for a few months now. Right now I'm using ivendor's latest RC9 plus CastagnaIT's ExtremeUV (without any OC, I'm using the standard 245-1401 MHz range) and it's fairly stable.
I always had some problems in real-time performance: it seems to me that when there is a process background the application in foreground becomes incredibly sluggish, maybe needing 10 seconds to input a single key… then, after a bit, the background process finishes his business and things go back to normal. Using BetterBatteryStats I have pinpointed a couple of bad application and removed them and now this happens rarely enough (but still happens). But this is not my question…
On Friday I decided to try ivendor's new CM10 alpha 5 and it simply doesn't boot: no "blue boy" loader at all.
I tried both the straight ROM and with the addition of CastagnaIT's kernel. I tried both with and without google apps (but I guess that doesn't matter at all, since that's userland stuff and I'm not seeing the kernel boot yet)
I put CM9 ivendor+CastagnaIT(extremeOC) back and everything is back to normal, but I'm wondering why CM10 is not booting; I think I've done it all correctly… using the new CWM 6.0.1.9 and all.
What could it be?

I tried with CWM 5.5.0.4 but it also doesn't work.
Doesn't hang on boot like it did with 6.0.1.9, but just resets back into CWM5 menu after a few seconds.
Oh, nice, it also resets back to CWM5 using the CM9 zip file which always worken with CWM6.0.1.2.
(I guess I'll use Odin to put CWM6 back and CM9 with that and be content with that)

Yep. That's what it did.
Now I've put CWM6.0.1.9 back with Odin and using that I managed to put ivendor CM9 RC5 back, so that I can put AOKP rom in the /sdcard and try it.

Whops. I guess that the changelog might explain what was happening.

[Q] CM7 Stable Freezing Issues...

Hi friends... i'm having this problem since RC stage until the lastest Nightlies including the Stable version:
I'm using CM7 stable now and i got randomly freezes when i try to wake up the phone... anyone have this problem too?...
NOTE: i try changing governors using stock cm7 kernel, and I also change it by huexxx kernel, but still having freezes... i also make a full wipe and reinstall cm7 stable but nothing... any suggestions?
List what apps u have installed. Maybe it app-related.
Also i remember that p500 had random freezes with crt animation on so turn off all animations.
In the CM discussion thread, it was mention that LG provide a faulty driver for 2.3.
For a workaround, use a old kernel which have the old drivers: use the huexxx 4.0/Novav11c with the MOD
Don't use huexxx 4.1 kernel

Try to use a custom kernel (I recommend huexxx kernel 4.0 with mod).
Try to fix permissions too.

I had this problem with all roms I tried... so frustrating when it freeze during night and your clock alarm is on your cellphone.
I tried a full wipe and fresh install with all roms but no success.
The only one who seem to work better is the CM9 nightly 6 ! there is some issues like the phone app crashing ( I'm using a dialer app on the market and it work very well !) The camera is buggy but I dont really need it. The battery ran out faster than others.

Even with ZEUS rom ? i'm using it since first release, and never experienced any SOD
Use CM7 with Huexxx kernel 4.0 with mod. I never had an SOD in 2 months
Listen to this guy!!!
I'm on Cici ROM final.. originally, the CPU min freq set to 200mhz.. I'm having SODs with that.. but after set it to 300, no more SOD.. I think, freeze or SOD on wake up is happening when the CPU is too weak so cannot wake the phone..

Plz watch the video in ultimate rom on.
How to prepare yr phone before flashing any rom.
Do all the wipes necessary.
Be on an safe kernel in ics first.
Then follow as in the video by hammdog.
You can surely flash n run JB without any problems.

That is bound to happen with all the JB leaks. I have given up on them, none is stable enough to be used as your everyday rom. They work decently for a few days but then sods start to happen and all of a sudden the phone won't boot anymore. Sometimes clearing cache and dalvik cache helps and sometimes it doesn't. Seriously, I recommend going back to ICS and wait for the official release.

I did as described here and I am very okay now. Repartition with pit file wiped it clean enough it seems.

Get a stock jb rom they seems to be more stable then the ones that are tweaked all around I'm running a stock rom with just some build.prop tweaks and some minor theming I have done and it has been my daily rom since xxlsc was posted with zero problems well at least for what I use anyways no sods or random reboots or freezes or FCS and I also modded the service.jar file for v6 supercharger for 100% supercharge

That's exactly what I did. The last rom I ran was stock XXSLA released by sammobile. It worked for 3 days before the sods started to happen again and eventually I encountered the mandatory bootloop. No chance, I'm not going to touch those leaks again. On one hand constantly having to deal with sods and bootloops is annoying. On the other hand I'd like to mention that our phones are not built to be wiped every other day. Doing so to remedy sods and bootloops might as well provoke a brick even if the device is not affected by the brickbug (as mine thanks to the new mainboard I got) and/ or is running on a safe kernel.

CM9 rc3 seems to be stable although wifi connection seems to be a bit weak.
Will flash again CM9rc4 these days to exclude the flashing was maybe improper.

I had the same problem.
However, Doomsday provided a modified and updated kernel some days ago. I've been using that one for a while and I don't remember having many problems since. This is the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37952778&postcount=3555 Hope it helps!
Also, MIsterLemons has just released an updated kernel based on arco's sources which you can find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38059967&postcount=3575, I haven't tested that one (I rather like doomsday's additions) but his kernel might just fix your issues as well without diverging from arco's builds.
EDIT: it appears I had been lucky. I've just had 2 random shutdowns in 5 minutes using Doomsday's kernel...

[Q] Jelly Bean 4.1.2 hangs a lot!

Hey guys
I am running JB 4.1.2 on my Galaxy S Advance. First I was really pleased about the new functions, the additional speed and the new the design.
( I was running 2.3.6)
But now my mobile hangs a lot, if I'm watching videos, playing music or if I just go on facebook.
I've used the instructions of this video and I've done exactly the same as showed. /watch?v=2W2NVfGJ0Cc
Do you have any ideas, how I can speed up my phone?
Maybe with an other kernel, an other ROM or something like that.
Greetings from Switzerland!

i am using stock rom XXLQ4 with cocore 3.3 kernel and no frills config: governor-pegasusq and i/o-sio
still if u feel the phone lags which i dont think it will, u can enable forced gpu rendering in developer options, although u may experience screen flickering.
try Thunderzap 4.1 kernel and wipe cache/dalvik. See if there's any difference. It worked for me.
my phone also hangs quite a lot, a few times a day when i want to unlock my phone it just shows the last used app (be it the launcher or any other app) and doesn't respond except for the power button. when i press the power button the screen locks, but when pressing again it's still frozen.

does cm 10.1 have a better battery life than cm 10.2? cause in cm 10.2 it was quite terrible, only about half a day with wifi off (i never use data connection, always turn that of ) and in standby most of the time.
edit- the battery is fine, it's almost new, and in stock rom i can get about 1 and-a-half day with wifi almost constantly on

i think i'm gonna try that one for a day or so, see if the battery life is indeed better than cm 10.2.
only downside other than that is the high vibration strength, is there anyway to lower that? (only for buttons and certain onscreen things)
and is there much difference in battery life between 10.2 and 10.1?
edit- just installed it, but wifi always takes about 2 minutes to turn on, so i'm back to stock based

If you haven't done yet, root your phone. Then flash a custom recovery. CWM or TWRP. Then flash a custom kernel or a custom rom.
I think the Jelly Bean stock-rom isn't recommended for this phone. It didn't use to lag, when I used Gingerbread 2.3. After flashing Jelly Bean it hanged a lot!
Now, i rooted it, installed CWM and the custom rom Pure Vanilla. It doesnt lag anymore!
Greetings and nice luck

Random reboots into recovery

Hello xda
I know there quite a few posts out there with people detailing their phones rebooting randomly but my phone just hit a new level of weird.
My i9000 reboots randomly into cwm recovery menu for no good reason (I know there is another thread about this but that instance is on the Nexus S and the thread has basically died). This started occurring shortly after I flashed slim ROM 4.2.2 build 5 (came from CM10.1 nightlies). Flashing the rom again and updating it to build 6 has done nothing to alleviate the issue.
I'm using the Semaphore kernel with no OC or changed settings, and having recently bought a new battery, I'm really not sure where to start looking for the problem.
If anyone can give me some tips it'd be greatly appreciate, thanks in advance.

If anyone can give me some tips it'd be greatly appreciate, thanks in advance.

hi
randomly i will got this problem if i m flashing backward. like from 4.2.2 - 4.2.1, or 4.1.x to 4.0.x. or repeatedly changing between kernel (i always do this to modified ROM to suits my settings n need) its probably due to changing partition in system or kernel clash (even i did all wipe) in internalsd.
Sorry to say. it will come worst sometimes if u ignore da problem or keep flashing ROM to avoid it. 'Luckily' about 2 hour ago my sgs just did. Constantly booting to recovery n its juz bootloop between kernel splashscreen n sgs white splashscreen after it.3 combo button will not working for recovery n only download mode accessible.
no more method for me . Juz flashing back to stock firmware JVU +CF-ROOT with odin was da answers
but if u dont familiar with odin.seek guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149455
but use it as ur last method!
clashing between titan.....no! kernel maybe da reason.do some wiping before changing kernel or ROM. n format system if necessary before flashing!

Reboots into CMW with Slim Bean 4.3 and Semaphore
Hi guys, any news on the subject? Exactly the same thing happening to me. I did a clean installation of Slim 4.3, after using CM10 and everything seems to be working perfectly except it reboots into CWM every 1-2h!!! I haven't changed any configuration and didn't mess with the kernel that came with the ROM, which is Semaphore... Is it a kernel issue? Should I try to flash the latest version?

I run into the same problem with my current update of my I9000 to CM 10.2.1 and the Semaphore Kernel 3.3.0 (JB).
Any ideas on this issue from the pros?
I realized that it was happening to me only when I was loosing the network coverage, like being in the underground or roaming or things like that... I don't know if it happens to everyone but in my case it's definitely this. If there is no network available my phone will boot into recovery after a while. If the signal is OK, it doesn't happen. Maybe it has something to do with the modem?!

Deactivate Deepidle in Semaphore manager app and these reboots should be gone.
Did the trick for me.
