On a semi related topic. For anyone who has used the app, is it good? How does it compare to the Netflix app?

It works pretty well. The touch screen interface is easy to use. The output is ok - certainly not crisp HD (even with HD content) but perfectly watchable.
( I no longer have my KFHD ).
could someone send me the apk, i wanna try, the app Runs on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Android 4.0

The download for the System.img recovery tool contains what looks like a system dump of the KFHD. It has various APKs in it but none of them have Lovefilm in the name. I suspect that it isn't as simple as there being a "Lovefilm Instant APK", I think that the Lovefilm Instant functionality is probably integrated into one of the other APKs.

It's an ext3 or ext4 image I think. However, the update from Amazon's site here is just a zip file, you can extract the .bin file with a standard unzip tool.
Thanks a lot! I was able to unpack the archive but i could not figure out wich apk the lovefilm app is. if it is the "main" amazon video app, it doesnt run on my nexus 7 ;(
I believe the file we are after is atvandroidclient.apk. However it doesn't work just pops an error when loading and after some Google if I am correct no one has so far managed to port it across from the kindle fire hd to another device as of yet due to dependcies

So i have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" from the US. Im trying to get it working in the UK.
I have so far managed to swap the US app store application for the UK one. Thats was easy.
The problem is, the lovefilm streaming app isnt available via the Kindle store, this is likely because either of both:
a) normally the Kindle comes packaged with it anyway.
b) its not standalone and has dependancies (as you suggest above).
Id like to try and get it on my 8.9" and see if it works or not. So, how to go about this?
I could try downloading the whole system update onto the device - 7.2.3 for the 7" version in the UK. The version i have on the 8.9" is 8.1.3 from the US. So the first question is, does anyone know if the 7" version 7.2.3 is compattible with the 8.9" device?
If not then is it possible to copy across just atvandroidclient.apk and try that? How would i do that and can it be done without rooting or whatever?
What are the risks?
The app is now available in the Play store. I could not download it due to Google's agresive processor checking but found it here ... ###

It seems to work fine on my Sanei N10 quad core.
Thanks, but that's for Lovefilm by Post. Doesn't allow streaming, which is what we are all after. The By Post app has been around a long time.

Downloaded and installed fine on the G-tabrunning vegan-tab 5.1, but then popups keep saying it doesn't support this device every time I actually try to play something. Crap, the hardware should easily be able to run streaming hd video. Hope one of the XDA developers can fix this...

It runs and streams content just fine on my stock Incredible running 2.2. And I have the app running on my gTab which is on Vegan 5.1.1, I just can't stream anything. I think its just a matter of Netflix only allowing a certain devices to access their servers and our tablet is not on the list (which is only 5 devices long at the moment).
Sorry for the double post, but I found this fix quoted from Android Police in the Incredible section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13738814&postcount=44
I don't know if it will work on our tablets but it changes the build.prop file to make the device report itself as a HTC G2.
No love with modified prop

No problem. I literally just a few minutes ago got the market working properly on my tablet by modifying the build.prop and I really don't want to mess with that file anymore unless I have to. I want to keep my market working.
But thanks for trying that. I figured it was worth a shot. Someone hopefully will eventually find a work around.
Working great on the Droid x! No luck on the gtab. Running overclocked,on 2.2.

Fortunately, my Nexus One is supported. Works fantastic on that. A buddy has the newest MyTouch, won't let him even install it to that. However, both of our Vegan 5.1.1 Gtabs let us install, no go on playing, gives the popup.
Of course, it works on my 3.7" display device, but not on my 10" display... BOO!

I tried this on mine. Running Vegan-tab GE with standard kernel. Dumps me back to the queue. I wonder if there's something else I need to change in build.prop?
+1 on editing the build.prop... i can confirm it works... From what i'm reading around on other forums this is only working on gingerbread roms, if at all.. so if your still on a froyo base rom you may not wanna chance screwing up the tablet...
As far as editing it i used File Expert.. turned on the root functions in the app settings... then found the system folder checked it's box hit Menu->More->mount... changed the permissions to read and write... u may have to mount the file the same way too... copied it to the SD card for editing.. changed the required fields.. go back to system folder rename the original build.prop to build.prop.bak so u'll have a backup in case something goes hinky... then copied the edited back into the system folder... reboot...enjoy...
Haven't noticed any adverse effects yet market is good thus far...tegra dedicated apps show up still so I'll take that as a good sign

Another confirmation of working on CM7.0x (I'm still on 7.02).

So is it possible to root the all new Kindle Fire HD 7" ($139.99) with Fire OS 3.0 on it? I'd be looking to put Android 4.2.2. Or is it possible to load the Play store onto the device?

Hashcode is a busy guy. He develops for about a dozen different devices, so adding one more to that roster is going to take a while. Yes, we're all eager for his work as well, as his ports of CM10.1 and CM10.2 are amazing. Even if we have to wait a year, Hashcode, and if not him, someone else will get around to developing for the new Fire:fingers-crossed:
And if you did go out and actually buy one, why not try doing what @soupmagnet suggested and try the Bin4ary root method on it? Amazon may have forgotten to patch the fake-backup we use to "sneak in" the root binaries.

Could I get the link to the method? This would be the first time I have rooted a device, however i'm sure I could do it. I've been building computers since I was 14.

And the KFHD was the first anything I've ever rooted (although jailbreaking iOS was nothing new). Supposedly, if you're familiar with Linux, Android's not that different. If you take your time to read everything carefully and follow the instructions, everything should go smoothly.

OK - So I've been at this for over 4 days and here is what I know to date:
11.3 Kindle is fairly easy to root thanks to many people around here.
Root Many will not provide you access to Google Play on the 11.3 OS Kindle
All the forums that propose solutions to getting it to work around here - don't work on 11.3
Widgets and Live Wallpapers don't seem to work if Google Play is not working
KFFirstAide will not allow you to get Google Play working on 11.3
As far as I can tell, while no one has outright said it, you can not correctly get Google Play working on an 11.3 Kindle Fire as of 12/27/13
Please correct me if I am wrong, I'd love to be told and shown otherwise.

From what I can tell your and read. That is correct. Root is fairly easy though it took me a while cause what most threads dont tell you is you need the sdk so you get the drivers working properly. Which is what I had to do. I have put all the google apps on my kindle but I get force closes a lot and can't use the market. Might be wondering how is any of this useful then? As you can still log in I just use the google apps I like example YouTube and Play Music. But as of now I have heard of some getting market to work but I have not seen a definite way to get that done.

Edit 1/19/14: Hashcode has released a new build that has apparently fixed the issue with the amazon apks.
His newest build (as of today) is here for KFHD7 2012 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/tate/cm11//cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip
And here for KFHD 8.9 2012 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jem/cm11/cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-jem.zip
I encourage all to try this build (or the newest one) first. I'll still leave these apks here just in case for the mean time.

You can back them up with Titanium Backup, uninstall the apps and then restore them with Titanium Backup. That works on crashing apps but not all apps in the app store are compatible with the Kindle series.

You don't need to make this a system app. Try removing completely and re-downloading it to the download portion of the internal SD card. Then open it. It should work just fine unless something from CM is preventing the app from working properly.

I can confirm editing the line ro.product.manufacturer in the build.prop works. Just change after the = to whatever you want. I used "Amzn". Tested on KFHD7. As has been stated, always make a backup of your build.prop before changing anything.

The newest CM drop from Hashcode has change the prop build to make it an Android. If the newest build is used then the newest APK's can be used and the ones I uploaded are no longer necessary. I updated the OP when the new CM 11 was dropped and opted to leave the old APK's up only for those that may experience some random issue. As far as the downloads, they work fine. Not sure what to say about that.
Hi,
I bought the first version of the Kindle Fire HD (7"). I like to root it for using Google Play Store on it.
I have red, that it is possible to root the KF and to use all the prime features (videos and e-books) without any restriction.
Is this still right? Which custom ROMs support the prime features, too? (Kinology?)
Thank you!

Kinology should work as it's based on the Kindle rom, but i am not 100% sure as i never tried kinology. However Cm11 rom works for books games and music but not prime video. I just watch prime videos on my laptop. Cm11 has the android 4.4.4 and overall i think it's really good.

Hello and thank you for your response!
CM11 is no option for me at the moment, because I bought the tablet to use prime instant video and have access to the free prime ebooks (with the normal kindle app, you do not have access to them).
So I like to know, if all the prime stuff is working after root the original rom and if it works with the kinology rom?
Yes I own the first version oder kindle fire hd 7" with cam and hdmi output.
Thank you!

Hi! If you root your Kindle Fire you will still have access to the apps and prime videos and books. I have done this and i can verify it works. However not having used kinology i can't say for sure but it is likely that it should work as well!

Thank you very much! This is exact the information I´m looking for.
At the moment I only want to use the original ROM. Maybe later I will check Kinology...
Cheers!

Yes I know, but I bought a used one, so there is only a few time of warranty left...
Btw., is it possible to reset the device to the manufacturer settings, if I do not use a custom rom (only root)? (I have red about unroot, but nothing about reset)

Yes you can do a factory reset. This will unroot your device and get rid of all the media (apps, music etc) and settings will turn back to normal.
However doing this you WON'T renew your warranty. But the benefits are clearing cache!
To reset your device got to : Settings - Device - Reset to Factory Defaults Then there should be a pop up and it will ask if you are sure.
If you want reset click "YES".

If your stock root then leave WiFi on and Amazon will push an OTA update out and your tablet will update.
Sent from my Nexus 7 Flo running Paranoid Android 4.4.4 using XDA premium 4 mobile app

Thank you for the information! Is it possible to force the OTA update?
The Google Play Store updated some apps, unfortunately the amazon music app, too.
Now it doesn´t work and I need a way to get the original one (either as apk or from reinstall). The factory reset does not help

Problem is solved! I downloaded the firmware from the amazon page, added the extension ".zip", opened it and took the amazonmp3_unsigned.apk from system/app folder, copied it to my kindle fire HD and replaced the apk on it.
Now all works like expected
Hearthstone is now available for Android tablets. It's supposedly optimized for Lollipop and KitKat as well. The question is, how do we get it to run.
So far I have followed this guide to download the .apk and .obb files.
http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone..._run_hearthstone_on_any_rooted_android_phone/
Once I install it, I can run the program but it gives me a "Only available on 6" and larger tablets". Sounds like we need to change the DPI or the device name on the build.prop.
Can someone help figure out the best way to do this? The guide calls for Xposed which is unfortunately not available for Lollipop. The main thing is that I don't want to change my DPI for the entire phone just to run the game.
Thanks!
I'm in the same boat, also have a nexus 6, eagerly wanting to play some hearthstone!
Tried changing the DPI of the whole phone and the game runs fine, just need someone to patch the apk or try and find another workaround for the screen check
Yeah I figure we can come up with some sort of workaround to make it less inconvenient!
They're having some success at this link, using a modified APK:
