Love this phone - Nexus 4 General

This phone is a cracker!
The phones I have had before have come close to perfection. Last one being the s3 but never quite made the cut.
Everything just works perfect!
I've had the nexus 4 since Saturday and have yet to find a flaw.
User friendly is is an understatement.
Its like they have thought of everything.
All those folks over at the s3 forums laughing at us for selling up and getting the nexus will be swallowing their words after a few mins playing with this badboy.
Even the screen feels amazing. It just slides through your fingers.
Nicest phone I have ever felt and used.
So as you can tell, I am very happy
Peace

Couldn't agree more.

This makes me want it even more, NAO! Hehe, mine is in transit with DHL, and I'm F5'ing the Tracking page all day long hopefully I'll receive it before the weekend!

thanks for this post. I feel the same way.
I'm coming from a situation where I'm with tmobile already, I have spotify and netflix and I don't need a removable battery I have chargers everywhere I go if needed (work, home, car), and I get about 20mbps down from HSPA+ which is on par with verizon's LTE when you're talking about real-world use. So for me the phone is perfect.
On top of that the phone is fast as hell, extremely responsive, the IPS panel is really good, I love the design on the back, its a lot classier then I though it was going to be. Holding the phone, the weight just feels right. Coming from an SGS 2 I love the notification light and the on-screen buttons really make it feel like an advanced phone.
Look I understand the phone is not for everybody and theres some compromises some people just arent willing to make. That being said, its a ****ing shame when tech hypochondriacs get a device then immediately hop on xda and make countless threads about how their phone sucks because there's a 1/4th of a mm gap between the micro sd card slot and the phone bezel.
I honestly couldn't be happier with the phone. Its just a beautiful device in all aspects, and coupled with a SANE price I don't think you can go wrong with it.

This is good to hear as mine's will be here this week.

I was one of the lucky first to get the 16GB Nexus 4. It's one of the best feeling Nexus. I think the Nexus one felt the best in hand, but it is too small now. I say now because at it's time, it was the perfect size.
I was never one to use the swipe keyboard for typing, but the Nexus 4 screen is so smooth that it makes gesture typing pleasurable. I now swipe all the time.
As for durability, I dropped my phone on a hard surface twice already because of how slippery the back is, but it held up just fine without any scratches. Multiple drops on carpet because my pillow is now a slippery surface.
As for software, I been using Android since the G1 launch, so since android 1.3. Back in the days when we had developers like Jesusfreak making rooted roms and custom recoveries for us. By far, the Nexus 4 makes android 4.2 the most liquid smooth version of android I have ever used, bar none! That 2GB of ram is just awesome. Apps stay in memory much longer. For my Galaxy Nexus, pages would have to reload when I switch back to Chrome browser, but not the Nexus 4. It's still there, ready and waiting for me.
I don't regret my purchase for this phone at all. Only nexus I had regretful feelings for was the Nexus S. Why? well that's another story.

The phone just does what it told! Doesny even argue wi ye!

I see it now.
I'm glad to see this thread. Just finally got an order in this afternoon. Now to wait...

Had mine since the Friday of the week it was released & I have to say I love the feel of the device, The notification light is a godsend coming from the S2. I'm now getting used to the sensitivity of the screen, My S2 you could just hover over the screen & it'd click things. This needs a bit of a harder tap but nothing major.
I thought I'd miss the screen of the S2, It still impressed me up till the point of getting rid of it. Those colours! Even if they are over saturated looked fantastic when watching videos & playing games. But the sharpness of the N4 screen makes it brilliant to be honest. The colours are fine too now i'm used to it.
I echo you're statements OP I love this device.

Just got an iPhone 4

I just got an iPhone 4 last night and I was pretty excited about it. I upgraded my account and got the 32 gb version for 300. I still have my nexus and I'm thinking of doing an in-depth review between the 2 once I use the iPhone for a little. The hardware is beautiful and feels amazing in your hand and high quality. I got a sgp full body protection in crystal clear and by being an idiot, I messed it up. So far in the last day, I've had a good experience with it, antenna problem goes down to 1-2 bars if I really squeeze hard but never alters Internet speeds or drops calls. After I got a side decal, it's hard to get it to 1 bar and sometimes 2. So do u guys think I made a good decision in getting it and would you like to see me do a review between the nexus and the iPhone. I've had the nexus for 4 months.
Tell me more about your screen protectors, riveting...

Nope.
And no, your antenna issues on your iPhone aren't as breathtaking for nexus one forum as you may think =)
Otherwise, grats!
Personally would never get an apple product.
Meh, the fact that you are even remotely excited about the Iphone is enough to turn most of us fanbois off.
But yeah, no one's stopping you from doing a comparison review.
could you tell us 'why' you got one?
what appeals to you about it?
I'm curious why so many people switch phones so fast? Already tired of the Nexus that quick? Or maybe people just have the extra cash for all the latest phones lol.
I have had a my share of iPhones. After owning a nexus one or any other similar phone I would never go back. IPhones are so restrictive on everything it sucks. Your better off selling it on Craigslist for double what you got it for and spend that money on something useful.

Gotta drive that multi-trillion dollar debt =)
i ordered an iPhone 4 just so i could sell it on eBay. made a real quick $700 after selling it a week ago for $900..... N1 FTW!
Honestly I wouldn't mind having the new iPhone. But I think I would wait and get the phone once all the issues have been addressed.
But I don't think iPhones can match android right now.
What I love about the iPhone is that the os is really smooth and fast. Obviously I hate how its restrictive.
But having the new iPhone with the nexus one would be pretty sweet. At least for me anyways.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
don't bother with the iPhone 4. just buy the 3G s. there is almost no difference in performance between the 2 and the 3G s can actually make a phone call.
Moved to OT.
Its a TREND thing every one knows about the signal problem and does that stop them NO, look at me Ive got an icrap. Now if that was the latest great windows phone it would get slaughtered but because its the icrap its OK lets get it and don't bother it cannot make calls i just have one
BUT a review would be nice on why you decided to get one knowing the signal problem or do you use the Gafa Tape ??
How about a review on the best type of tape to use?
I've never really liked any of the iPhones. This is the first one I ever even thought about getting. The hardware is superb, nexus feels cheaper. Camera is great, video recording was much better than the nexus but camera quality was only slightly better. The screen is beautiful and just as good if not better than nexus. Better in sunlight too. ITunes is still annoying and the iPhone doesn't sort the artists by album artist. Both have great call quality but the iPhone has a louder earpiece. That's what I got so far after one and half days of use. Os is annoyingly restricted, have to wait till jailbreak gets released. Touch screen works much better, more responsive and no multi touch issues. Games are better too. So far i am enjoying the new iPhone
Ok so this is the deal with me and iPhones, I had 5 different 3GS and sold them all for a very good profit, i now have the Evo and wouldnt think of getting another iPhone unless is to make some quick $$$$. The freedom Android gives us its unblieveable ...so why go back to an iphone? Lol just look at all the crap you gotta go thru just to add some music or videos. Android keeps it simple, not just with that example but with everything else. Dont get me wrong i love the hardware on the iPhone 4, but is it worth going through all the crap Apple makes you go thru? Na, just to change a battery its a mission nd they charge for everything. So again to sum it up I basically say sell the iPhone, and stay with the beautiful Nexus.
JBlaze -- Evo 4G
So, what's it like being different like all the other different people?
Just kidding... Have fun with your new gadget.

I prefer to non see your nexus vs iphoney comparison
iPhone 4 haven't landed here yet, but I have seen some imported from UK and US. The first phones to hit the "norwegian Craigslist" had a pricetag of 2300 dollars LOL!!!!!

This tablet rocks

Amongst all the issues people have been having, I only have one: I can't put it down! This is more of my vision of a perfect tab, one that could replace your pc for many uses. Older android tabs couldn't do that very much because they were much too laggy. This tablet is fast and i'm loving jelly bean. Really like the new ui for the most part, if the launcher and lock screen would rotate it would be perfect. I originally complained when it didn't have the honeycomb ui, but after using that on my flyer for 6 months I can't say I miss it. Definitely don't miss bumping the back button when I type something nor do I miss how cluttered the action bar was, or how the stupid action bar never hid even when watching movies.
Also love how light it is and easy to hold, and the grippy material is nice too

agreed. this thing is awesome. i brought it into my lab and just holding it convinced one of the other guys to get it.
This device is really goooooood. I'm very happy with mine and I love how it runs everything I throw at it.
Play with voice-to-text and text-to-voice also.
Both are amazing on this device.
Nexus 7-Too Cool!!
Everything is so smooth on this. It's like a beast! Perfect partner for my SIII. Twin beasts!
Yeah it's crazy fast. I only wish they would of found a way to include haptic feedback. It's not a big deal, just a bit weird that's all lol.

I agree with you guys. This thing is much better than I expected.I have had no issues at all with mine.It does everything I need it to do very well.
I am so glad I preordered before all these threads showed up with so many complaints.I doubt if I would have purchased one otherwise and missed out on a great little tablet. Those one the fence thinKing about an N7 don't let all the complaints scare you off.You will be missing out if you do.:good:
My only complaint has nothing to do with the Nexus7 but with the slow process of apps updating for use with jelly bean.I guess that has always been the case with andriod but hopefully things will get better.
Honestly a week before i/o I was thinking about selling my flyer and pre ordering a nexus assuming the rumors were true. But then I decided to wait for it to be official, then all the complaints had me thinking it was best to wait. However it got to the point with my flyer that I was so fed up with lag I stopped using it and after a week I decided to sell the flyer. Wish I had just gone for it from the beginning, would of been able to nearly get all my money back on flyer as I only paid $200 originally, but I waited and only got a dismal $125.
I do honestly believe now that it looks worse than it is. Hardly anyone gets on here to praise the tablet but you see 20 threads with people having issues you immediately think there are more bad ones than good ones,
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
NO!...... it doesn't. It outright sucks balls.
Haven't you seen the posts? 28 XDA members out of projected 3 million sold say it sucks. Dont buy one or if you did, refuse shipment then express a cry baby attitude here.
mine came today and i have to say its far faster than i thought it would be. it is easily faster than the ipad i find for web browsing etc.
the cherry on top would have been the sd card slot. but then it would become unstoppable.

I have an original Asus Transformer, and I'll tell ya, after the initial love of it, I barely ended up using it. It was just too big, too heavy, and too slow. I picked up a nexus and it remedies all of these problems.... the buttery smoothness of it is exceptionally enticing. I have a feeling I'm going to use my Nexus way, way more than my TF.
LOVE this thing.
I agree. I didn't think I would like the Nexus as much as I do, I LOVE it. The smaller form factor is actually really nice and it feels better in hand then my TF101.
Few days before I get my hands on my Nexus 7 and you guys are already making me far too excited for it!!
Love it
Had a Acer A500 for the last year but since I got this Nexus i cant put it down. I had the screen separation issue but the replacement from game stop is perfect. It is more portable, lighter, faster, etc. Movies, books, web,Skype,VoIP calling, texting, and games I use this thing like 8 hours a day.
Even when the 10' comes out I will stick to the 7.
I wish it had a nice rear camera and a micro slot but whatever.

I sold my original Asus transformer because of the same reasons. As with a lot of people posting here,I cannot put this device down ! Im able to finish reading a book without having hand cramps when holding the 10.1 inch transformer. Of course you lose the big screen, but the n7 is much clearer and sharper IMO.

[Unofficial] Nexus 4 Compliments Thread

There seems to be a lot of people talking about issues with the Nexus 4 and ways to fix them, etc. While that's completely necessary and appropriate, wouldn't it be nice to just have a thread where we talk about how much we like our brand new device? I think so and hopefully the mods will too. Anyway, in the spirit of this thread I'd like to begin with how much I'm liking my Nexus 4:
Things I like:
Screen - The screen is really nice. Even though the screen on my One X had much warmer colors, I'm not at all opposed to the more natural colors of the Nexus 4 (yes, I do believe that the SLCD screens saturate colors, though it's much better and acceptable than the saturation of AMOLED screens).
Call Quality - Call quality is better and louder than that of my One X or Galaxy S II. Though there is a little bit of noise, it's not at all distracting.
Camera - The camera, while not the best on the market, produces quality images. My One X has trouble producing decent pictures using an AOSP ROM, so it's a definite upgrade in this department. Pictures on the Nexus 4 are good to great quality probably 80% of the time.
Things I love:
External Speaker - The external speaker is absolutely wonderful. My first Android device was a Motorola Atrix and, while not the greatest phone I've ever had, I've yet to have a device that beats the loudness of its external speaker. Well, the Nexus 4 is the closest I have found. I was able to still clearly make out the lyrics to songs when I was in a room about thirty feet and two open doors away from the room where my Nexus 4 was sitting. Plus, it sounds very clear even at the loudest volumes. I definitely have no complaints in this area.
Build Quality - The build quality is fantastic. Everyone can rave about the quality of HTC's phones which I do believe are well made, but this device simply feels premium. One thing I admit defeat to with Androids vs iPhones is that iPhones (4/4S, and 5) easily beat any Android device in build quality. This can be argued with HTC devices and possibly a few Motorolas, but I'm entirely convinced that the Nexus 4 has blown the iPhone 4/4S and 5 out of the water. What really has surprised me is how solid the glass is. There is no give like there was on my HTC One X, Galaxy S II, or Atrix. The weight feels very nice in the hand, the metal strip on the side is a nice additional aesthetic, the buttons being the same color as the metal strip is a nice touch, and I really like the feel of the rubber material on the side. Oh, and that wonderful design on the back really grabs attention. Of course, it's very depressing that I have to have a case over it at all times due to the glass back, but I'm confident that a nice bumper and a back screen protector (if that's what it's called) will work wonders.
Android 4.2 - Pure Android is a big reason to buy a Nexus device and the Nexus 4 doesn't disappoint because, well, it's a Nexus device. Android 4.2 is really great. Though it's not a huge improvement over Android 4.1, it doesn't really need to be because 4.1 isn't that old and it's sort of fine with me to just enjoy the awesomeness of Jelly Bean until next summer when we'll hopefully get a glimpse of Key Lime Pie. But it's not like Google to not give use new features with a new Nexus device, and they definitely didn't skimp out. The camera software is pretty great and very much needed. It's just better all around and much more intuitive than in previous versions. I'm also loving the crop options Google has given us and the filters are a nice touch that I've used a few times already (I'm getting into Instagram, apparently).Though PhotoSphere is gimmicky, it's fun as hell and everyone who I've shown the final product to has said something along the lines of "You did that with your phone?" One of the biggest small things I've noticed is the animation when switching between apps. It's ridiculously smooth. I can't remember if this was in a previous version, but I never noticed it on my Nexus 7, so I don't think it was. I don't want to go too in depth here, but all of the Android 4.2 features such as home screen widgets, Daydream mode, and many others, while not being detrimental, are certainly welcome.
So, there you go. I just think that a place where we can all appreciate our Nexus 4 is a great idea, so I made one . No one needs to go as in depth as I did, but if you'd like to, feel free.
We were married on the 29th, but I haven't bought the ring yet.

This phone is just so amazing. I knew that HTC's build quality was good (Sense sucks), but this had even better build quality and SMOOTH STOCK ANDROID!!!!
Zero complaints with mine. Coming from a Note II and a S III...still think it's my best device yet. I've had it 10 days already.

The wife and I have both been enjoying ours for two full weeks now and not looking back. We jumped ship from sprint and are saving nearly 100 bucks a month and getting much faster data speeds on T-Mobile prepaid. This is an awesome android experience device without any bloatware and the Dev support that is around in such a short time is simply amazing
Build quality is better than gs3 as far as I'm concerned and I really liked mine, I just couldn't justify paying so much a month anymore for 3g. Win win all around for us!

I love how smooth the screen is. It feels like there's a layer of butter between the screen and my finger, but when I go to clean it, there's no butter on it!
Comparing to my previous nexus one, this phone is much much much better. All I can say is awesome! From one core to quad core, 512MB ram to 2GB, a much bigger screen. What else can I complain? Moreover, I spent almost 600 on my nexus one but now only 400 on nexus 4! Overall, I love this phone for sure!

Zero complaints. Phone is the best they've done so far. I like every aspect of it.
Awesome device! No issues so far! It's a big hit with the AVN girls!!
Easily the best phone I've had. Its ridiculously smooth UI is great, and the screen is lush.
Also, on got this out my pocket in the pub last night and people were like "OMG is that a Nexus 4?!" You've got to love that effect...!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what this thread is all about.
Not us giving the Nexus 4 compliments, but us telling stories how the Nexus 4 has fetched us compliments :good:
As for me the only thing I had happen was while I was unboxing my phone, I went to test the camera outside. I leave the box there. When I get back my roomy is pacing around the house saying "WHO GOT THE NEXUS?! LET ME SEEEE IT!" lol.
Agree with all the above. This is my 7th Android device and easily the best I've ever used. No issues whatsoever. Forgot this was an LG device. I swore never to buy another product from them after the G2X and here I am...
As far as compliments go, what I've been hearing is "Gorgeous/sexy device!", "The back is so cool" and last but not least, "I'm still trying to figure out how the hell you got one when they sold out so quickly" lol

Yeah I am more than happy with mine. Makes the nexus 7 that I am posting this on feel seriously sluggish and coming from an i9100 which was by no means struggling I cannot believe how slick this thing is. I have got the ear piece buzzing problem but it is so quiet I wouldn't call it an issue.

Love my Nexus 4, I've only 'liked' other phones as they've always had a weak spot that has niggled me.
This beast however doesn't have anything that I don't like, and thus I love it.
Also, it's already a whore. I was the only person in the office of geeks (I work for a software development company) that managed to get one due to the wonky launch. Suffice to say it's been passed around and for all I know jizzed on many times! lol
I was out with some friends the other night and I whipped it out and one of the lasses with us commented 'That's a sexy phone, looks like someone gets paid too much!' the same person also said 'It feels so nice to hold' ... 'insert smart remake here'

I can't understand why some people prefer it over the n4. Turning the thing on and setting it up for her was such a pain! So many pop us and crapware I was frustrated in 2 minutes. It reminded me why I love my nexus. Sure there are many many options but you have to stick your thumb up your ass and whistle a tune to access them. Its just not done well. Touch wiz is worse than ever.
Agreed. Honestly, I can't stand any of the OEM skins. They all just look so ugly to me.
she is part of the average consumer, they love all the features that are advertised. course if you what a nexus is like, you would never go back to OEMs, but gotta admit some of the extra features the oems do have are neat, and they have much better camera software imho.
One of the main reason people are getting the S3 is due to the unavailability of the N4. All my friends who has S3 said the same thing.

I agree with the OEM software.
Personally the display on the N4 is a huge disappointment. I keep comparing it to my Galaxy Nexus and even my wife's GSIII, it doesn't even compare. The size of the display is good but I have a problem with the crispness, the image looks washed out. I'm also really paranoid about the glass back on this device. The GNex I would just drop on the desk, this one I find myself setting it down gently and it's almost as if I holding a baby trying to be as careful as I can be.
Main thing I miss from my s3 is the lack of external SD. Still prefer the n4 overall though.
I do hope that split window is made for the n4 at some point though. Possibly the only worthwhile feature of crapwiz over AOSP.

Agreed. My lady is an average consumer and it won't bother her much. But if I find it hard to use a feature I know it means she won't even know its there or she will ignore it. A couple weeks ago I watched a Samsung rep show the note 2. Everything looked so complicated. Some of the things she showed us didn't work the first time requiring multiple tries and such.
I can only say I like the hardware of the gs3. It feels nice in the hand.
Yeah nexus over S3 except the camera the S3 camera is great and the nexus 4's is only just better than alright.

You can't beat Samsung's quick toggles... Even the quick settings implemented in 4.2 do not compare. Then there's the slide right to call/left to text feature in the contacts... It's the little things. Samsung does some good stuff with Android.
Those first time around popups are for new users obviously.

You only go through those on screen tutorials once, after you get through them, it actually rocks. Unless you do a factory reset of course, then you have to dismiss all those windows again.
Lol, first of all doesnt take a genius to figure out how to set up a S3. Second, I think average customer would rather buy a nexus device so clean and neat and "easy" to set up.

Sell me on the S5....

Hey guys, I got the M8 last Thursday but am not totally convinced that it is the phone for me yet. I have some gripes with it, but overall I like the phone. First I have two questions about the S5, and then I will post the gripes that I have with the M8 that I posted in the M8 forum. After that, let me know what you think. Here are my two questions about the S5:
1. Will the Touchwiz lag from the S4 be gone? I was always a Samsung phone guy, but I just couldn't deal with the lag on the S4. It drove me absolutely nuts. I'm hearing some rumblings that the new UI on the S5 is free of lag? Has anybody played with the phone yet and can chime in on this?
2. I know the speaker won't sound as good as the stereo speakers on the M8, but will it at least be as loud? That's all I care about, I don't care about the quality. I will use headphones most of the time, but I want it to be loud enough for notifications, etc.
Ok, now on to my gripes about the M8 that I posted earlier in the M8 forum:
1. After all the constant "excellent build quality" praise that the M7 and now M8 constantly get, I really just don't see it. Based on materials alone, yes, the M7 and M8 are excellent in materials. In actual build quality, they are both quite poor in my opinion. Both of my M7's from last year had screen fitment issues where they weren't flush with the top and bottom speaker grills. It annoyed the heck out of my OCD self and was one of the few reasons why I returned them both.
My M8 has a very similar issue. On the right side of the phone, the top and bottom speaker grills are raised above the glass. So my finger snags when I'm swiping up or down on the screen. Super annoying and I'm going to exchange it for sure, if I even keep this phone in general.
2. The LED notification light....if you can call it one. Is HTC the only smartphone manufacturer that doesn't understand the importance and desire from consumers to have a bright, legible and multi-colored LED notification light? The one on the M7 and now M8 is pathetic. Might as well not even have one. It is the size of a pinhole, can only show green or amber, and it is next to useless.
To HTC's credit, the one on the M8 does seem to be a bit more visible than it was on the M7, but it could be in my head. And also keep in mind that I knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought the M8, so it's my own fault with this issue. I still wanted to mention it however as it still bothers me.
3. The camera. I will keep this one short as there is constant discussion about it and people have varying opinions. My opinion is that it's lackluster, and I never thought I would say my Nexus 5 camera is better than a premium flagship phone. But it is, and I will leave it at that.
And once again, I knew what I was getting into before I purchased the M8, but I fell for HTC's duo camera marketing thinking it might somehow make 4mp's better than 4mp's. It didn't and I'm disappointed for the most part.
4. Software....I don't know what it is, but Sense 6 feels cold and empty to me. Coming from the Nexus 5, I know this might sound like a bizarre statement, but something feels off and I can't quite pinpoint it. It feels, dare I say, boring. Yes it is fast and smooth, I will give it that. But that's about where it ends for me.
I also can't wrap my head around HTC still not addressing their messaging app oddity. On the M7, when you got a new text message and opened the app, the new message wouldn't immediately appear and it would refresh quickly and then it would show up. I don't know about anyone else, but that is super duper annoying to me. And it's sadly still present on the M8.
Some might say, "use Hangouts or a 3rd party app". And I would say "nope". I hate how Hangouts handles SMS and MMS and I don't like to use 3rd party apps for text messaging. Just personal preference.
5. The physical aspect of the phone itself....it's just too tall. I understand they had to cram amps, a bigger battery, etc into the phone. But almost as tall as the Note 3? Come on. The phone feels good in the hand however, but it's just a little cumbersome. And I still hate the top of phone power button placement even thought they moved it from the left side to right.
After all of that being said, do you think the S5 is the device for me? I'm in quite a dilemma because my 14 day return policy of the M8 expires on the say that the S5 starts shipping. So I kinda need to make a decision blind unless I can get my hands on an S5 to test before then.
Thoughts? Thanks!
1. Yes. 110% gone. Dalvik to Dalvik as smooth as the stock Nexus 5.
2. It's pretty loud, sufficient enough for me when I tested it.
What area are you in? Most AT&T stores and some best buys have the S5 on display. Oh, and I'd for sure recommend the S5

That's great to hear! I'm in San Diego, CA.
What about the lack Of a hardware menu button? I think it's a pain having to stretch all the way to the top right of the huge screen to get to the soft menu button.

tl;dr what's up man? hahaha I'm gonna get an s5..and you know how I am about lag. from what I'm reading, she seems so much more lag free than the s4.
you might as well get it since I am and we both seem to follow eachother

M8 doesn't have an on screen menu button... But with either phone I'm sure you could change functionality if you rooted. I'm happy with a multitasking button instead of menu though. It's not too hard to reach the top for me.

I had the same feelings about the M8. I had actually gone to Verizon planning to buy it, but was disappointed with the phone hands on. The phone obviously looks great, but it's got some issues otherwise. It was sitting next to a G2, which actually looked much nicer in terms of the screen, and smaller bezels. The camera got terrible reviews, and as someone who doesn't listen to music from phone speakers the large speakers at the top and bottom of the phone were unsightly and make it seem longer than necessary. I also didn't like the software, and particularly the navigation bar, it felt uncomfortable to use. As a Verizon user, I also want bootloader access which is particularly tough to come by with HTC.
I haven't gone hands on with the S5 yet, but I consider the S4 to be superior to the M8...So I hope to be pleased.
S5 is miles ahead of the S4 IMO. I used it and was VERY impressed. DisplayMate said it was the best screen they'd ever seen on any smartphone.

Yeah the fact that this phone with a smaller battery can outlast the Note is insane! Even with a much brighter screen!

Really shows how much software optimization can do!
Touchwiz really has evolved
TouchWiz has evolved as much as AMOLED displays have XD

Hey WizeGuyDezignz, hello from a fellow San Diegan.
I am in a similar position to you.
Either of these phones will be a quantum leap from my HTC Vivid.
Having owned HTC phones for years I really want to like the the new One.
Not having handled one, I still think that it's awkward size will bug me as will the lack luster camera (not that I usually need 16MP but it's nice to know it's there in case you do).
Things that don't having me rushing to get the S5 are
1. Touchwiz is unknown to me
2. Linked to 1. the fact that there is the Knox issue as far as rooting is concerned.
3. I think the dust cover over the charge port could be a weak point and would drive me crazy having to fiddle with it to get access every day. Specially seeing that regardless of which phone I get they will be protected by a case-mate tough case which has been outstanding for me on my Vivid.
I look forward to more hands on reviews once the S5 starts selling here.

I will 110% get the wireless charging backplate/charger from Best Buy (I'd recommend it to anyone getting this phone ).
Also, the new TouchWiz is quite intuitive IMO. It's very simple and you should have no issues picking it up.

The inductive charging is a great idea but I am sure it wont work through a protective cover.
Oh yeah with a case it's unlikely to work, unless you get a wireless charging capable case. I go naked on my phones, so it's no big deal

S5 may have improved upon s4's display, but I am waiting for a comparison between S5 and Z2's display.
From what i have read Z2 has a better display than M8.
So yeah i am still waiting for that[emoji6]
