my phone is crazy. can't download anything using play store.
not enough memory. but at close look the phone will not mount cache partitaion.
anybody pls help. all roms the same
Anybody?
I get error code 498 in lgp 990 custom rom.
but in miui rom the android core process is forced closed
Error code 498 is related to cache partation.
but in miui is android core process that is forced closed all the time
There is no cache mounted on the phone.
And it doesnt metter which rom ja choose. it's all the same. some rom says it isn't enough memory.
Help please. i think it's got to do with cwm. it's just wrong. it's v 6.0.1.5 i think. there was never problem with 5.0.0.7
Formating cache will not create cache partation in cwm. please resolve problem
Try command:
mke2fs /dev/mmcblk0p2
from terminal emulator or adb shell and reboot your phone.
Check if your cache is mounted with command:
mount | grep cache
Worked for me.

I'm not sure where is the problem but i think it got to do with cwm. that program has f my phone.
Even before some roms wouldnt work properly exept muiu or wuiu i dont know what rom is called.
But even now that rom wont work as before after installing djmango i am terible at spelling and knowing names.
but do get good analasys anyway.
i did install long ago new ics upgrade which was no difference in rom and maybe there was the problem (bootloader
) this is just a guess but my money is on cwm
problem solved. Cmw 5.0.2.0 working by downgrade

hello all, just trying to get a little input on the correct procedures for clearing the cache inbetween roms. i recently swithed from cyanmod 4.1.6 to Drizzy's Hero-V1.2r1 . Ive tried several commands in console so far to wind up reading something along the lines of : not found. Could someone inlighten me with the correct commands to do this or even the correct steps such as wipe, flash , yada yada and then what commands. thanks in advance , veritas
ronrey, so ronreyyyy, so ronrey im all aloonnneeeee
When you switch roms the only thing you need to do is wipe your ext partition and wipe your phone (alt + w). I use Ubuntu to clear my partition, but there are commands to do it if thats what your asking.

when u switch roms a small trace of them remains behind in the dalvik folder in the internal that doesnt just get cleared using alt+w so there are a set of commands to handle this task and i believe they go something like this rm -rf system/sd/dalvik-cache. along with some pre and post commands, that are the ones im refering to.
actually here is a direct quote of what i found, i just couldnt get these commands to work, so im thinking maybe they differ when switching to hero, maybe not..but they didnt work for me>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So I started running into some performance problems with the Enomther ROM and was considering removing it and going back to Cyanogen. I decided to have a quick chat with Enomther and he gave me some things to do. The results are even more amazing than the first install.
I found out that the dalvik-cache gets carried over between ROM installs and that it can cause problems and that I should delete it, wipe my phone and start again. Enomther gave me this little guide to follow:
Ok ... so reboot into cyanogen's recovery
Press (Alt+x) to enter the console
Enter the following commands ...
mount system
mount system/sd
rm -rf system/sd/dalvik-cache
umount system/sd
umount system
recovery
This will bring you back to recovery, from there perform the "Data Wipe" option in the menu.
When it's done reboot and you should be all good. Of course you'll have to redo your settings, but your apps will reinstall properly.
Anyone got a way to fix recovery so I can wipe dalvik and ext? re-flashed recovery with cm and armon no fix 0o any ideas? - also nand restore and backup does not work anymore

nope tried other SD and the error messages I get are for example: Error: Run "wipe dalvik" via adb!
XD this is why this question is confusing because I can't see anything out of the ordinary
How do you wipe dalvik via adb didn't think it had the option do you have to use shell in adb?

I can't try this right now but I think it would be
adb remount
adb shell
#mount -a
#rm /system/sd/dalvik-cache/*
May be easier to use a root file explorer (SUFBS) and just delete every thing on system/sd and then boot to recovery and wipe and repair everything. You did try "repair ext" right?

Yeah that command for the wipe dalvik worked with adb thanks for that
XD thanks for your help seems that both sd cards that I tried being my luck -_- don't have a ext partition wth happened to them I don't know but fixed both of them now the system recovery didn't want to create them had to creat them through adb but everything is working now
Thanks for your help billquinn1 - Very much appreciated
SO i was running nook color version 1.1.0 and i used the autonooter to get clockwork installed. I then tried to use the monster rootpack to install phiremod but after it says install is complete i rebooted but now every time i reboot it goes directly to clockwork and i cant get it to boot up normally. is there anything i can do besides a restore to stock to install phiremod/cm7 or exit recovery? BTW i did remove the monster sd card so thats not the reason its booting that way....
When booted to CWR, use adb:
adb shell
Check that rom is mounted with:
mount
You should see /rom somewhere in the returned result.
If it's mounted, do:
echo -n -e "\x08\x00\x00\x00" > /rom/devconf/BootCnt
If not:
mkdir /rom
mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /rom
Then use previous command.
If that doesn't help, you can always flash my cwr remover .zip, found on my nook color restore to stock thread.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
thanks im going to try that right now.
So i am trying to run adb but it says device not found and i cant figure out how to get the device to mount
I had the same thing happen. In recovery, install the zip file in this post to remove recovery and keep it rooted. You will then be able to reboot normally.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
I read that it does that with autonooter 3.0. What you need to do is reboot normally after flashing recovery (don't reboot into recovery immediately after flashing). Afterwards you can reboot into recovery.
Hello guys,
I had the same problem, but with Team Win Recovery
I tried to remove TWR folder in sdcard, wipe Cache, Dalvik cache and even factory reset.
I installed a new rom, and as last attempt i tried to wipe all system tree, but nothing happen.
I tried to fix following the list showed in this post, but I'm not able to mount "mmcblk0p2".
Any ideas? There is a TWR remover ?
Advance thank for helps.

Hi
I have recently flashed Cassie's XtraLite v11 which is JB. After installing this, I found that I no longer have write access to /mnt/sdcard or /storage/sdcard0..
Whenever I try to run swiftkey, it says downloading language packs failed. I also noticed that an app called SMS backup & restore was throwing an error saying no write access to the folder where it backs up.
I am guessing this might be because I have lost write permissions to the internal sd card. I tried the following but still swiftkey gives an error:
1. Tried reflashing the Philz Kernel
2. Tried wiping everything and flashing the ROM and kernel again
3, Checked SU app and it shows I have root permissions
4. Checked permissions of the above mentioned folders and it shows up only as Read access in ES file explorer. I am not able to change the permissions to write access
5. Tried installing the app called Mount /system (rw / ro) from Softbeans. It says that the system has been mounted as rw but I am still not able to get Swiftkey to work
Any help would be highly appreciated. Please ask for more details, as I might have missed relevant details due to my lack of knowledge

What rom did you come from originally sounds odd and no other reports of this. I don't have swiftkey but did use sms backup n restore wit h out glitch.
Did you follow the flash instructions as detailed in the first post. Can you copy a file from your external card to your internal card.
Please advise

Awesome! I had wished you would reply because now it can probably be solved....
I came from the ICS version of your Xtralite rom itself...
yes I followed all the instructions twice...like installing the philz kernel for lsa and mounting and wiping preload...
factory reset x 3 etc...
I am not able to copy anything to internal sd from external sd

Ok that sounds. Little odd. An you say you have clicked fix permissions in cwm with no joy at all
Also I utilise the new lsa kernel in the new Rom. Flashing the old kernel for ls7 is not necessary. Did you flash the ls7 kernel after flashing th rom if so flash the Lsa edition in Phil's thread

I didnt try to fix permissions through CWM but through an app called Mount /system (rw / ro) from Softbeans
I will try to reflash everything to see if it changes anything. Meanwhile if you can think of anything please let me know.
thanks a lot.

sorry I have never tried this...where do I type this command?
Would it be possible for you to provide me a few links which I can go through to get started with commands?
Is there a noob way to do this? like an app on android?
I would first try fix permissions in cwm. If that fails then you could use terminal emulator to see if above command works.
Then if all fails I would copy all internal files from sd card to the pc. Then in settings unmount internal memory usb storage and wipe it clean. This is untouched in Rom installation.
Test you can write to.it I.e download file from internet if good
Then copy files back
Else
I would flash stock ls7
F lash Phil's kernel in Odin then flash the custom Rom again

ok
1-you need to install android sdk in your pc from HERE
2- then connect your mobile to your pc via usb cable
3- from command line :
export PATH
adb root
adb shell
4-now you are inside your mobile
for internal sd issue:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /storage/sdcard0
for external sd issue :
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /storage/extSdCard
Good Luck

1. Tried fixing permissions from cmw to no effect
2. Installed terminal emulator and wrote the command you mentioned...before that did su to go to root user...command implemented succesfully (no error). Still there is no change the permissions on the sdcard0 folder are rwx,rwx,r_x....I am not able to choose the last as write...I dont know why it is considering me as an other user
I installed the android sdk and launched eclipse as mentioned on the website...however when I try to type the export command it says that export is not recognized...I am sure this is a very very silly mistake but I dont even know if I should have typed this in the normal cmd on windows
Trying to reinstall everything from scratch now...
Okay an update:
I did everything from start and reinstalled...everything seems to be working fine at the moment...hopefully it will continue that way
one thing...do you know if the last installed apps are backed up somewhere and all the apps would directly be installed from play store? It used to happen on CM where apps would automatically download from playstore. I dont want to use TB or app2zip as that might add new variables which might lead to potential problems
Did you go the stock root first.
I don't use restore Google option as apps I don't want auto download.
I just use the all apps section in market my apps option. Only takes about ten minutes for me to reinstall all apps

No I didnt go back to stock rom first as I am not sure how to do that...wouldnt that be unsafe since it might have a buggy kernel? let me try to search where to go back to stock from.
Thanks a lot for your prompt responses, really helpful.
What did you do before it went. Was it installing app if so which one.
You should bide able to go back to stock safely. Using Odin.
Check Dr ketans thread for advice.
It sounds odd hopefully it's not a hardware issue and a good clean setup will help

The properties of the folder were still rwx rwx r_x but swiftkey was working...then I ran an app called Rescan Media Boot(which stops media scanner) and then the Swiftkey error showed up which said cant load language packs...
BTW, the other option where you have mentioned I can delete everything on the internal sd...the step to copy all the files of internal sd and copying back is just for backup purposes (to save my data) or is it something that is required for android to function...as I dont have anything important on the internal sd I can delete all the files directly?
It's for backup purposes. Apps also store save data in android and data folder so always good to keep a copy.
Out of curiosity why use the anti media scanner

Used the anti media scanner because everywhere people have suggested that on JB it is Media which eats a lot of battery...same thing was happening to me as well
Now, I tried to delete everything from the USB storage...it says that it is formatting USB storage but even after formatting the available space remains the same...is there anyway to do this wipe from CWM? is that safe?
Okay your advice on internal storage and this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985101 solved it...
I was able to format the internal SD through computer and now it is mounted as writable
It looks that I had a bad file/folder/whatever on my internal storage, so the system put /sdcard (internal memory) on read only as it notice the bad thing.

I installed Ginger Yoshi 1.5 on my Android Dev Phone 1 by following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178665
I found that most things are working, but I cannot install CoPilot GPS (28MB)
Error 498 in Google Play seems to mean the /cache partition is too small. My cache partition is 27MB.
I tried redirecting /cache to larger place with Cache Fixer 1.1
The "Data" option doesn't succeed in expanding the cache.
The "Tmpfs" option successfully makes the cache bigger, but it makes Play force close when I try to install the app.
I Tried using CacheDownload2SD 1.7.1, but it doesn't do anything
I got a message saying my su binary should be updated. I don't know if that is related or not.
I tried updating the SuperUser su binary from 2.3.2-efgh to 3.1.1
su Binary Updater says "Make sure new su works... fail!"
When I try again, su Binary Updater says "Copying su to /system... fail!"
When I try yet again, su Binary Updater again says "Copying su to /system... fail!"
I used Root Checker to verify root access. The phone is properly rooted. I don't know if this issue is related
I've considered downloading an apk and manually installing it. That should work, but then Google Play wouldn't let me know when an update became available. Any ideas on how to solve the problem? Does anyone know why Cache Fixer and CacheDownload2SD dont' work? Can anyone see why the su binary won't update? I've spent all day clearing caches, rebooting, and attempting installs. Why does Google Play need to download to such a tiny partition?
@IMSargon if your /cache partition is too small then you need to use custom MTD.

Thanks for that. I certainly have some more reading before I fully understand the topic. When I upgraded to Ginger Yoshi 1.5, I changed from DangerSPL to hboot-1.33.0013d which gives practically the same partition sizes, except /cache is 27MB instead of 30MB, which is why I didn't have this problem before.
So you're saying I can flash to this custom bootloader to increase my cache size (decreasing /system and/or /data accordingly), install the GPS app, then flash back for normal operation? It sounds like a risky proposition. Is there no way to permanently or temporarily redirect the location to which Play downloads APKs? Such solutions appear to exist (Cache Fixer, etc), but they don't seem to work for me (why?).
No, if you change partition sizes you will be wiping those partitions. Maybe a better option is to do it just once but bind mount to sdcard, see the link htcdreamon gave for more info on this

This is a relief to hear. It sounded like they would just redefine the partition boundaries with the data in place and hope for the best. I was wondering how that worked. After re-reading, the instruction do call for wiping the partitions and re-flashing the ROM.

That would work, and it's something I'll seriously consider once I have a chance to read all the documentation. It seems to me, though, that I should be able to unmount and remount elsewhere the /cache partition on a live system from the command line. Any reason I should not attempt that?
If you want to resolve your problem then follow these steps
- Clean your Device Cache
- Erase Market Data
- Scan your Device for Viruses
- Restore Smartphone to Factory Settings
I also have tutorial like article where you will find all the solution steps to fix the error here is the link:
optimum-systems.com/2013/04/error-498-in-android.html
I hope you will resolve your problem
I tried making a folder under /sdcard, removing /cache, and replacing it with a symlink to the folder in /sdcard. That didn't work for a number of reasons. Firstly, mkdir was missing, which was a pain. I just made the directories with File Manager on the phone - I'll fix that later. Then it wouldn't let me change the ownership of the target directory on the sdcard, even though I was root. When I tried downloading my app, Play force closed.
My next idea was to put the folder in /sd-ext, which is my next largest partition. This is an ext4 partition on the sdcard. I created a folder there. Then I deleted /cache/download and created a symlink to my folder in /sd-ext. I didn't have any problems changing permissions this time. For whatever reason, Play did not force close, and successfully installed the app.
I'll write what I did here, but I'll pretend mkdir worked.
Code:
rm /cache/download
mkdir /sd-ext/download
chown system:cache download
ln -s /sd-ext/download /cache/download
chown -h system:cache /cache/download
I'd expect this setup to survive a reboot, so maybe you want to delete the symlink and remake the original folder to set things back to normal. If not, only apps that use /cache/download are effected, so you might as well leave it. Just clean that folder out every so often.
