So my wife's captivate crapped out last night. She is running stock KK4 plus the latest Corn kernel. No other mods. When the phone boots, she gets to the white moving "swoosh" screen, then the animated "S" comes up like normal. At that point, it appears to freeze, goes black, and then the "swoosh" boot animation starts again. It will then continue to loop and never boot fully.
I can get to download mode and to recovery. I can flash in download mode. In recovery, I cannot flash anything because it does not recognize the internal SD card at all. If I choose to mount USB storage, my computer also does not see it (it works fine with my captivate).
I have tried:
Wiping caches
Wiping data/factory reset
Flashing the stock KK4 kernel
Reflashing Corn
Reflashing KK4 entirely
Same thing every time, when it comes back up it bootloops in the exact same way. I'm pretty much at a loss at this point and am open to suggestions. My primary concern is the internal storage because my wife takes a lot of pictures and video of or son but does not do the regular backups she should. Any help would be appreciated.

When you said you reflashed KK4 did you use a one click that would do a complete format and repartition? Have you tried maybe placing a ROM on your external SD and trying to flash through recovery?
Honestly I'm not really sure why it's doing what its doing I'm just throwing ideas out for you.

I did not partition, I may try that.
Thus far, I have been unsuccessful in getting the external mounted in this condition. If I can get that to work, I may flash a cm nightly and see if that does anything.

EDIT: Flashed the latest CM nightly using the external SD. It rebooted to recovery (expected), then when I tried to flash it again the installer crapped out with a Status 0 error. Still cannot read or mount the internal storage.

Hi guys. Yesterday night I was installing a few new apps but the seemed to be stuck installing forever. So I decided to reboot. However, after the reboot, it never goes past the second boot screen.
I know I can just flash to another rom but is there a way to save my data in the instance? I can still get into recovery mode if that helps. Thanks
I've read you can hook up to your pc and mount your sdcard from cwm. Never tried it but if it works you can save your data that way then maybe a master clear/cache or dalvik wipe will help.

You can mount USB in recovery and get all your stuff off of your SD that way. You can also nandroid your current ROM in CWM and re-flash it, then restore from backup. As far as saving texts and all that, Idk if you can, but I'm sure someone else does.
Also, you could try clearing dalvik, cache, and then running the kernel cleaning script. It's gotten me out of a few binds before. It might help you to where you wouldn't have to flash again.
Yesterday I suddenly found my phone to be turned off by itself. When I tried to turn it on again, nothing usually happened. Sometimes however, it looked like it would turn on, but the white bootlogo would barely show, or maybe up to a second, and then it would go black again. When connecting a charger the charging icon would show for a second, and then black again, and still the phone wouldn’t boot. Recovery or download mode wouldn’t work either. I was hoping it was only the battery that had just died, since the phone won’t work at all without the battery, even with the charger connected. But when I tested a friends battery today, it would still not boot, and my battery worked fine in his phone. But, at least it turned on each time now, showing the bootlogo for a second, and then all black again. Recovery mode still won’t work, but I’m able to get it in download mode. If I connect the phone to the PC by cable first, it won’t start or go in download mode, I have to get it in dowmload mode first and then connect. I was using stock system v2.3.3 from about a year ago, but with Clockworkmod kernel.
So what could have happened? I figure the system is either corrupt, or even wiped?
Or could the phone itself be badly corrupted?
I also have to mention, that a few months ago the internal and external SD-card was suddenly wiped, and I got a message about error on one of them and had to reformat.
Since download mode is ok, I hope there is a chance to maybe flashing the system again with Odin?
Is ther any way to connect the phone to the pc and get access to the memory to maybe copy whatever data still there, if any? Or can I reflash to just put the new system on top of everything without formatting?
I think your sd connectors are corroded or damaged. For your data try to flash the semaphore kernel by Odin to get a recovery (link ). After flashing, go into the recovery look for "mont and storage" and select "mount usb storage" or something like that. With your pc connect your device and copy your data in your pc like an usb stick.
If it doesnt work, say goodbye to your data and try to reflash a rom by Odin

-Press Start and don't touch anything until the great case above the yellow one became green.
Please reply me for more info
Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow morning at work, don't have the time today.
At least I do have a complete backup from about two months ago, so it's no disaster about the data. There's not really anything that important on the phone, it's just all the work setting everything up like I want it again.
Please reflash a stock rom with odin...
I was able to flash semapfore kernel, but still I couldn't get the phone in recovery mode.
Flashed stock firmware 2.3.3 (last nordic version), and the phone booted fine, but lots of old programs kept crashing and messing with the system. Best of all, everything on the internal sd was there, so all the latest titaniumbackup was there. So I copied this to the PC, did a factory reset, flashed CF-root again, copied the titaniumbackup and clockworkmod-backup to the internal sd, and cwm-backup is beeing restored as we speak. Then titaniumbackup will be restored and everything should be fine for now.
I'll be leaving for holiday in a week, so I don't want to use lots of time right now to do a clean setup of the phone. There is way too much other things I have spend my time on before the holiday. But after the holiday I think I'll just have to do so.
Thanks for helping.
For your apps who crash you have to wipe apps data (with TB).
The apps crashing when I just reflashed didn't really matter since I was going to install the backup anyway.
But a few apps kept crashing even after I flashed the backup. So wipe app data was what I eventually found out I had to do.
And so the same thing happened again.
But this time it doesn't seem like reflashing will help at all.
Crappy trashphone, it's been a disaster rom day one.

The phone won't boot, and won't go into recovery mode, only download mode.
When I turn it on the boot logo only shows barely, and then nothing happens, just like last time.
I've tried reflashing several times using Odin, but this time it doesn't help, phone still won't boot. I've tried both without repartition, and wit repartition (and pit).
My friend got me to put his phone on cm9 after using froyo for a long time.
The strange thing was that the method to get into recovery suddenly changed from volume up, power and home. For some reason it is now both volume buttons, home and power ..
Just thought I'd share this since your recovery should work after a kernel flash.

Hi,
My wifi 8.9 galaxy tab won't complete nandroid backups. I have 3.3gb space (more than enough) and after successfully backing up the boot image, recovery and /system partitions, when it reaches /data it appears to freeze. Around 30s later it reboots to whatever state the device was in. If it was off and turned on to recovery it'll turn on, if I chose "reboot to recovery" from the advanced power menu it reboots to recovery.
I have wiped /cache and delvik cache but this didn't help. The backups created are around 200mb.
I've made nandroids previously with no problem. Updating didn't help (now at 6.0.0.8, I had 5.5.0.4). Current rom is AOKP-5.
Any ideas? I want to flash cm10 but until I get a good backup I don't want to proceed!
I've had that problem too. I don't know what caused it but I resolved it by using ODIN to go back to stock. In stock recovery, factory reset (which wiped EVERTYTHING)*, and reinstall stock ROM again by ODIN.
At least at that point I had a functioning tab from which I could re flash cwm recovery and whatever else I wanted. Had to reinstall apps too.
Was a bit of trial and error and I managed to stumble my way through, but that was my journey. Maybe someone else here knows better...... If you end up doing the same, backup everything you need/want externally. And get yourself a cup of tea.
*My other tip I gleaned was holding power button, up volume and down volume at the same time turns the tab off. (used for turning tab off whilst in stock recovery).

Hidenandroidprogress didn't work unfortunately, thanks for the suggestion though!
It's fixed now though, and required a flash back to stock in ODIN (which actually failed and caused me to bootloop, though I'm not sure why as I chose the correct device & my location!). Fortunately I could get into (stock) recovery and so I used adb to push CWM to the sd card and flashed that, then pushed CM10. Flashed it, and now I have a super smooth GTab with Jelly Bean that can do nandroids. Sorted!
Hi!
My device seems bricked and I have a problem accessing /data.
I'll give you the background...
I'm using cyanogenmod 5.5.0.2 and cyanogenmod 9.
I've been using my device with the these settings for well over a month.
In that time I had some issues with the device shutting down when it was charging, other than that everything has worked flawlessly.
Today it shutdown when I was charging and when I tried to start it, it just showed the Samsung logo then it restarted.
I booted clockwork recovery and I tried several things to get it up and running again.
§ I tried wiping dalvik but that made clockwork freeze (It stops when before the no,no,no,yes,no-list should show)
§ I wiped cache partition, the wipe finished successfully.
§ I tried resetting factory settings with no success (I get the no,no,yes-list. When confirming the device hangs at "formating /data..." )
All I do from clockwork connected to /data and the sd-card freezes the device.
I'm at a complete stop, I have no clue going foreward.
Can anyone help me? That would be much appreciated, and I would love you for it!
Thanks, Jon
I would try to flash the stock rom thru Odin. Get the original honeycomb rom. You can get that at sammobile.com. you'll have to extract the .tar.md5 file out of the zip you'll download. Use 7-zip for that.
Back everything up first and you'll have to rebuild from the stock hc.

Oh god, thanks! It worked.
Or rather, the odin flash failed but somehow that kicked the /data into working mode.
Thanks for you respons <3
Should I put solved tag on the thread?
Before I screw anything up any further I figured it's time to ask.
I'm using Odin and I flashed ICS(ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_Captivate.zip) awhile back and everything had been running fine for a couple months now.
I noticed longer load times during loading animation when powered up(Figured it was just 'cause of more start up apps) eventually it stuck looping @ animation screen. Out of frustration I was hitting the lock key while loading up and somehow managed to stop the animation loop and lock the screen which enabled me to use the phone again for the day until my phone was turned off by accident
In my attempts to resolve this issue, I tried clearing all cache's(Delvik,Partition etc.) and reflashing the rom to no avail.
I figured if I formated /boot and than reinstalled it might work, *BIG* Mistake. I could only access download mode so I couldn't reinstall /boot
I reflashed using the speed kernel to get back recovery mode and than flashed my ICS.zip again only to be still stuck with this boot loop issue. I've found the topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 as a last resort.
How can I recover from boot loop without losing my data? Thanks.

First off what do you mean by data? Do you mean your photos and music that is stored on the internal or external SD or do you mean the apps you've installed and any data or settings related to them or your current setup? If you're talking music and pictures, with the exception of rare cases your internal and external SDs should never be effected by a basic flash but the link you provided suggests that it will wipe everything if you use the master clear option. If mean the other "data" I mentioned theres no way around that short of a backup prior to a flash.
Now as far as the link you posted I've never used it so I don't know if it would help. However I would suggest this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843 go to the third post and use the KK4 one-click without bootloaders. That should hopefully fix your situation and again unless something weird happens it won't touch your photos and whatnot.
On a side note have you attempted getting back into recovery from the bootloop, rewiping the usual, and flashing the rom again? Sometimes that corrects problems.

I should be more specific when refering to data, I need my text message, pictures and videos everything else is synced online. I'm looking into the link you've suyggested now and I have tried wiping the caches(delvik, partition) and reflashing the rom to no avail.
I've looked @ the kernels you've suggested and looks good except I'm not sure what it means by wipe(What will it wipe?) and why not the one with the bootloaders since I'm having bootloop issues?
Thanks

Pictures and videos shouldn't be touched but unless you've backed up your messages they will be.
As far as what I linked they aren't kernels they are complete stock ROMs built into a one-click program to take you back to stock. It will wipe and repartition the internal memory that the ROM is installed on. It shouldn't touch your storage memory though.
As far as not using the one with boot loaders, you could but you already have the boot loaders installed if you're on ICS and reflashing boot loaders can potentially hard brick your device. Also flashing ROMs don't touch the boot loaders so they should be intact and using the one-click without boot loaders is the safer choice.
