Hi, I've started looking into rooting my T and started finding out if I could unlock my bootloader to start off with, when I saw that in my service info menu I can't unlock the bootloader... What can I do now? I would like to install custom kernels and ROMs but can't with this in place. I'm with o2, using the James bond edition. Any help please? Cheers!

If the service menu says no, then you cannot unlock your bootloader, which means no custom kernels and that you are limited to custom ROMs that are stock based

And there's no way around it? Is there no ftf that could enable it?

I read somewhere that it was related to bring sim locked. If I sim unlock could that help?

i dont think so.

I know this is not for xperia t, but some loose connections are made between sim unlock and boatloader unlock allowed. I'll test it when coursework isn't so piled up, or if anyone else could test it?

Have fun,
1. you have to pay
2. you need a removable battey
if you have a removable battery good luck (But you have the LT30p, so no removable battery), but be careful, because if you get the wrong test point you will HARD brick your phone. And without knwong which is the test point.its all a guess
It says that newer models have the same unlock code nowadays. At any rate I'm afraid I can't test right now

Stumbling block 1 with this method
How are you going to remove your battery to find the test point?
do you not think this would have already been tried...its already a method used on xda, I used it to unlock my neo (The free method). But on the T..how are you going to get the back off without specialist tools
What I'm going to do is first just SIM unlock and see the config menu to see if the unlock status has changed. I'm not going to interfere with the hardware. I might also ask my carrier why that's in place and if they can do anything about it. That's my plan so far... I don't know much about the programming of android but I presume that this is simply a value which is similar to Boolean; true or false, so would it not just be a matter of finding the relevant code and changing it? Like taking the (I'm assuming that this would be in system file maybe?) Files of a t with unlock allowed and comparing it to one with unlock denied? Or simply flashing a generic firmware which is unbranded? I only know a bit of visual basic, so sorry if this sounds stupid. I'm still a learner

If it was that simple, it would already be done. We have devs with EMMC access that can not do that yet, so a pleasent phone call to your carrier is not llikely to work.
Thanks for enquiring, and if you have any ideas please PM bin4ry or the_laser, they are the guys that are up to date with this,
regards
greg
I can confirm that having the SIM lock removed by your carrier will not change the bootloader unlock status. Done this with my Xperia T skyfall edition being locked to o2, SIM unlock Code given by o2 but bootloader is still locked and not available to unlock
Just another note updated firmware but lock is still there, just encase anybody was thinking after updating it may have changed.

As everyone said before, it's safe as long as the phone isn't sim-locked.
However, regarding Jelly Bean -- as nobodyAtall said on his CM10 development thread, it's "a best effort to support the unsupportable" or something like that; our X8 really, really shouldn't go any further than 2.3. I'm currently on 4.0 and it leaves a lot to be desired -- 2.3 roms are *much* snappier, but for some reason I get terrible battery life on those (that's why I'm on 4.0)
How can i be sure that my phone is not sim lock.

Read Bootloader unlock threads for thatv sim certificate. Everything is explained there.
Mine X8 is 11W19 and i had no problems with unlocking bootloader.
Are u seriously asking these or u are testing us.. u have been here since quite a long time and know a lot more than many of us around..
Any way you can check out the thread by spyderx on unlocking with all the methods and details or mine below for a simple one with some usefull links..
And yes i haven't heard anyone complaining about brick for the one's below 11W29, still no one can assure u on that, there are always a few chances if something goes wrong(very small chance )..
Good luck..
No risk is involved, but use your brain a little bit.
Im sure you will be happy after unlocking ur bootloader.
Hey, ur not a noob, though its ur choice
You should read related threads for unlocking bootloder and then follow proper procedure.
U will definitely succeed.

It's allowed. Nobody forces you to pay dollars for unlocking and this thread is a valuable share
This is nice. I personally am quite against locking phones. Remove them shackles!
Looks good - I think people are just skeptical because usually unlock codes need to be bought (around $7.99 at the lowest), so we think "warez" when we see "free." Of course certain models like the iPhone and my old HTC Desire Z can be unlocked through pure software exploits (related to baseband) but those are more well documented.
It works! after 4 day you get 3 codes nck nsck spck. My phone was locked to telenor hungary and now it works with vodafone sim card.

I've read about privacy issues with sharing your IMEI. There is always that uncertainty that someone might do you wrong.
But from what I've read fremyblackberry has been around for more than 2 years and has tons of forum posts on different sites that confirm a satisfying service. Having said that, i think that it is unlikely that the service itself would abuse your IMEI.
However one should NEVER post IMEI-s in a public forum. I've stumbled upon forums where some user offers free unlocking by code, and users blindly race to post their IMEI hoping to get a free unlock. That way those codes can be read by the whole world, which is far more likely for them to be abused by someone.
Bottom line is, if in doubt, don't do it.
This would have been useful one month ago.
I payed just £0.99 to unlock my LG 2X anyway.
do I need to be on stock ROM to unlock?
I tried dialing 2945#*990# in CM10 and nothing happened
Hi deewhy,
Yes, you have to revert to stock first. You should do a nandroid backup before. I suppose the CM ROMs don't contain the code for unlocking SIM-locks.
After unlocking it, just restore the backup.

It depends how you flash a stock ROM.
If you flash a stock rom ZIP file, you will be able to restore CM via CWM recovery.
If you flash a stock rom in .fls/.bin file, your CWM recovery will be overwritten, and it will be more difficult to reinstall CM.

OK I guess this is a real noobie question, but can I debrand my Xperia T without routing it?
I want to update to the latest sony JB update that I see is out on the sony site but it says my phone is up to date. Could this be because I am on UK Vodafone?
If so I would like to debrand from Vodafone to install this latest official update. I have apps that won't work if I am routed so can't go there.
Can I do this, and if so how please??
Many Thanks!
Flash the UK generic ftf that us in the general section using flashtool. This will debrand your phone without rooting but does change your firmware do has other side effects. The only way to stay on your firmware and demand will be to root the device

I think that it's not the matter of branded/not branded etc. beacuse I've seen bootloader unlock allowed: yes after I rooted and installed CWM and TWRP; today I've reverted rooting via SPC and the bootloader unlock allowed is back on: no; so I think someone has to look through it to see if you can override it...

I doubt the Sony bootloader will be cracked any time soon as the Xperia T was never cracked and thats a much older device.
Unfortunately that means no custom kernels/CyanogenMod.
If you buy a factory unlocked device the bootloader will be unlockable/carrier branded devices may be locked and not unlock able.. Pretty simple really.
Sorry that I can't help much.

Nope. SIM-UNLOCK is separate to bootloader unlock.
It just doesn't.
On some old xperia phones you could open sim and bootloader like xperia arc if you used test point method to unlock sim it unlocked boot loader as well.
2013 xperia models that don't have removable battery are no longer able to use test point so you can't unlock boot loader or sim.
To unlock sim you need code which you cab buy from internet.
To unlock bootloader you need to contact your airtime provider and see if they will help in unlocking bootloader again this needs code but not freely available.

Why can't? It's jus another mobile device from Sony.
Because TL is a local device

Almost 99% of TL bootloaders are not unlockable, but there are a few that can be unlocked for some reason . The configuration shows a 'yes' instead of a 'no'. Yet the people get through the unlocking procedure but are stuck because they can't get fastboot to work. It's almost like every TL has its fastboot disabled. Most TLs are AT&T.
