[Q] ICS - is it worth the upgrade? - LG Thrill 4G

Hi Guys,
I want some feedback regarding ICS update. Is it worth it? I am on Rogers (Canada). Any one experience ghost call/sms? How stable is it?
I would appreciate any feedback?
Thanks

A lot of users are having difficulty with the base band working. There's a thread about it in the optimus forums. My son uses mine to play angry birds. Wifi works well. I think someone mentioned problems with Bluetooth connections. As with most things your mileage may vary.

Mine runs ics great a little lag at times but pretty good working it all out though

From my experience MMS sucked, the camera was buggy, and there's a lot of Korean bits left in it. I think GB Prometheus ROM has it beat by a long shot to be honest. If you like working on Android you'll enjoy it cause you will be doing a lot of it.

It charges the phone a lot faster, battery's charge lasts longer than before while not using the phone.
Once you have flashed the baseband with the fastboot procedure (because once you have flashed the ICS rom you lose the GB download mode) and once you have deleted all the Korean T, Nate and SKT bloatware, it runs pretty great...HOWEVER!!!
You ARE NOT going to be able to adjust the brightness while watching 3d videos or movies while using the stock player...
You ARE NOT going to be able to use the 3D Converter as you used to with GB because IT DOES NOT TRANSFORM ANY GAMES TO 3D!!!
The CAMERA PROBLEM!!!
Some games are not running like they should (ocassional slowdowns not present while using GB) even if they are in 2D and you have most of the telephone's ram free.
Everything else appears to be working fine.

So far I've had great results with wifi, sms, and phone on straight talk in USA. Wish I could say for Rodgers. There is a thread here that discusses working basebands for the O3D and the Thrill. you should check it out.

First Day with Gingerbread Rom

Installed Gingerbread yesterday, and would like to share my experience of the first day.
Here are a few things I noticed.
1. Overall speed of phone is better then froyo. My phone used to lag sometimes on froyo, but on gingerbread it's flying.
2. Battery life is better then before. Definitely better. Last's around 3-4 hrs longer than froyo.
3. One issue that might be in my phone is that movies played with a slight lag, but GB rom fixes this issue as well.
4. HTC Sense 2.1 is good, slight improvement. The new app drawer is better, organizing everything in All Apps, Frequent and Downloaded.
...will continue to bring updates as days progress.
Will also try to post some screenshot or video if possible soon.
How did you manage it get GB on an S-On, in India?
How is the GPS?
Lol. Not functioning on Vibrant. Works fine on Captivate. Ghey right....

It's cool to see the better battery time. Usually I will need to charge my Incredible S in the late afternoon under my heavy use. It seems that after the update it may be able to sustain 1 day long for my use.

To install GB on S-ON IS i india, just create a Goldcard using this method:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd/
Then download the official ROM from the Shipped Rom Section here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922
I used the Virgin ROM.
And flash as normal. Worked flawlessly here.

Had the same issue, but now its somehow better.
Mine shipped with GB as i got mine through Optus Australia. Weird for us to be ahead in the android software..... Aussie carriers are usually slow
Im loving it btw, so smooth and the multitasking ability is great.... although i did just come from a Dream/G1......

Now that you've mentioned it, i tried other HTC widgets too.... result.... The people widgets some times goes blank... takes a few secs to load the people I have added to the people widget. However, working fine for past 8-9 hrs now.
It's so tempted to install this RUU. Just saw an article in Android Advices regarding rooting the new Galaxy S II, and its so easy. Why couldn't HTC do the same.

Updated to 2.3.3 yesterday and muyt say everything runs a lot smoother. Still some stucking at widgets.
I have notice that the Sounds by pushing the Buttons sometimes Not work, after using over an hour.
And there is way to personalize the homescreen in the setting, when I click that it goes directly to the homescreen. Whitout any function. Sorry for my Bad english.

Would like to know if the keyboard swap faster when you rotate the phone when typing I found it pretty slow in 2.2
I want to upgrade my IS to GB too. But I want to backup the current ROM. Is there any way to do it? My phone has S-on.

What is The best rom to use

I am getting a bit peed off with my stock froyo tab it random reboots and doesn't turn on properly at times I have the p1000 uk GSM not wifi only I dont mind what I run asking as it is fast as hell, I have a nexus s so its a bit mad switching from devices at times.
Thanks xda

Take the Overcome expiriance. It feels very fast and smooth. Everything works without any issues and the community support (if you need it) is great. At the moment Alterbridge does not stop his developing (next version of his rom is in the oven) so we will get more and more performance.
PS: for a nexus S look you can flash the GreengerBlack theme.
(I know, I know......)
I came from overcome to dip7's rom and I can tell you that it is faster but it's closer to stock. Overcome has icons that look cool for some people but i like dip7's rom better.

Cool thanks for the replys guys quick question if I was to flash it is there anything or any builds for the uk model as there is so many different types of tab models. I don't want a brick

If you make your choise for overcome, the installation will be easy as sleep. You just have to follow the guide on "teamovercome.net". The Rom is made for GSM Tabs like yours. It's allmost impossible to brick the Tab.

The honeycomb rom by spacemoose1 is not complete yet. The last build he released was about 3 months ago. I tested it and it was laggy and many things were broken. I recommend gingerbread for now until spacemoose1 gets onto a better stage of his build.

Overcome or CM7 ?
I can see that overcome is pretty popular. I dont hear anybody touting CM7; I've got CM7 running on an HTC Desire HD and an LG Optimus One, and I'm pretty happy with it -- much better that the stock ROM, and on the O1, probably the nicest ROM out there. I'm just wondering a bit how much better worse it is compared to Overcome ?
I used to like cm7 but it is buggy as he'll Evan the last release was on my nexus s id have times where my screen would look like a burnt in screen animation, I would have to reboot all the time best roms i've used on my nexus is stock and miui only problem with miui us is the keyboard vibration don't work

Definitely what you want. I've been an Overcome fan for a while now, been very happy with it.
I use Overcome since version 2.0.0 RC1. In my opinion it is the best ROM for the Gtab 7". It is fast, does not have too much bugs and the support by Team Overcome is very good. The development of the ROM is fast and continually.
Not to forget the very good installation instruction and the Change Log for every new version of the ROM.

Have been using this for about 10 hrs. I have found that netflix does work and you can take 3d pictures just cant record 3d video. The other problem I have found is that it doesnt reconize the internal memory only the sd card is detected.
Have started running into an issue when streaming while the device is plugged in it drains the battery and doesnt provide a good charge
Correct me if I'm wrong but its supposed to run off the sdcard isn't it?? And that's all that's holding me back is the 3d camera ill just give it a shot since Netflix is working.

You can take 3d stills in the camera one of those options cant remmeber since I went back to stock it will let you take 3d stills
Games do not work (3d and non-3d). The games I tried before reverting:
nfs shift
nova3d
Other issues:
1. freeze reboot once while flipping through home screens
2. 3d didn't work (already known issue)
3. no 4g
On the bright side, it was very quick and snappy AND the bluetooth stack worked. I was able to use Sixaxis pairing working.
I guess I had a bad flash cause I couldn't even take 3d pictures....

Regardless the fact that CM7 is functional at all means good things. Considering their will probably be more devs now that they can work on something else plus there will most likely be an OC kernel to follow shortly. CM7 I think is one of the easier ports for OC Kernels.
I've been running cm7 for a couple days now and I'm so impressed with it I've been putting a lot of time into getting the couple of broken things to work. I'm compiling a Thrill version of the O3D cm7 as we speak. Will report back after its done and I get it flashed.
Cm7 is all I ran on my Aria and Captivate so I'm Determined to see it on the Thrill.

CM7 Works on O3D Version but there are slight differences in Hardware and Software between the O3D and the Thrill. Enough that a few things here and there that function on the O3D don't on the Thrill because of the Government having to make companies "Conform" to US Standards.
ok so mms is working. i got the 3d camera working (it no longer locks up the camera to take a 3D pic) but still no 3D gallery. And still no hdmi output. I also noticed the 3D button does not work, nor do any of the 3D apps.
As far as 4G goes, still no dice. Highest speed I managed was 3.66mb down/1.07mb up. Of course that could just be my area.
I havent tested Bluetooth or GPS yet. Wifi works great. Calls/sms/mms works like normal. Reboot Recovery is working as is the built in CM7 screenshot.
Im thinking that the LG 3D stuff isnt going to work without a kernel that supports it...I'll upload the cm7 and put up a link so people can test the network speeds and try to figure out some of the bugs.

CyanogenMod 7.2 rc0 kang test build

This is a test build with work mostly from arcee and a little by myself to get the newest cyanogenmod to work with the radio on the p925 aka LG Thrill. This build has arcee's latest patches for better a2dp and removal of gps logging.
Install the same way you would cyanogenmod. This is a test thread and will be removed once arcee gets the p925 nightlies up and running. Leave any feedback you have below and I will pass them to arcee.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10166016/12302011.0958-Optimus3D-cm7-KANG-signed.zip

so sad that in this day and age with ICS out, we are still crying to the bastards(LG and AT&T) for GB release
Hmmm...I really liked CM7 but it tore through battery life way too fast. It's okay while I'm on Christmas vacation but once next week rolls around, there's no way I can have that short of battery life. The longest I was able to hold a charge was 7 hours and that was without using my phone, down to 1 screen, only Gmail and exchange synced, and screen off. I tried 3 different batteries and all the same result.
On the Doomed ROM, I can get 8-10 hours of battery life with making calls, texts, downloading apps, uninstalling apps, playing games, running multiple screens with quite a few things synced, etc

The 3D issue is with LGs propriatary 3d software that does not seem to work well with others...
I could honestly care less about 3D. I'd rather see HDMI fixed.
There is no 3d (except in camera, weird) b/c it relies on lg's proprietary 3d framework, and cm7 is built from Google source.

EDIT:
So how do I access my internal memory? It will only mount my SD card, and it will not show my internal in Astro.

Droid 4 ICS leaked - does that help us?

Wont help us.

yeah we won't get much out of the leaked ICS versions for other devices. We need an ICS kernel, which thanks to the wonderful locked bootloader won't happen until we have an official release (or leak) from Moto
*praying for a leak!*

You're missing the fact that an ICS kernel hasn't even been built for the Bionic. That it's incredible that ICS ROMs even run on the Bionic in the first place because it's booting up with a Gingerbread kernel.
ICS has so many things overhauled under the hood, including new aspects of kernel operation that got stacked on top of what was already there. Because of the locked bootloader in the Bionic, the kernel cannot be modified.
Bionic ICS ROMs are running with limited functionality (such as hardware acceleration) because not everything in an ICS kernel is present.

Everything you just said is technically correct; however I have been running ICS alongside GB for over four months now and have not toggled back to my GB rom in over 2 months. ICS, even with it not being "official", just runs 5x better than GB.
This is pretty much the summary of how people feel who are running Android 4.x on their Bionics. I do not know anyone who has tried the Axi0m ICS roms and then switched back to GB except for people who REALLY have to have HD video recording.

I keep hearing this but what kind of games are you playing that freeze up? Only one of my 13 freeze up and it's not even that good.
I only played a couple games when I had ICS on my Bionic, but they performed significantly better than they did on GB.

Defender 2, drag racing, temple run, modern combat 3, cartoon wars and a few others.
Ordinarily it would be no big deal, but I got a new job with a lot more free time on my hands and these games are a great time killer. Lol

I had to switch back to GB due to constant data drops on all the ICS roms. Anyone find a decent ICS rom that doesn't have data drops?

Anything that requires graphics acceleration.
I switch back more for the bluetooth issues that we're still having w/ ICS over everything else. I use bluetooth devices quite regularly, and on ICS it's simply too buggy still for me to use it as a daily driver.

Wow, bluetooth? That's not dead yet huh? Just kidding
I'm curious though - what industry do you work in that requires the use of multiple Bluetooth devices? (This is a genuine question, I do not mean it sarcastically)
Thanks
