I'm selling my Note and need to do a factory reset.
I recently rooted so I could use Titanium b/u. I rooted using a recent method that required me to download 2 files to my external sd card and install via recovery. Net result I was rooted and had SU. No roms involved, only root. My big problem is I lost the HD on my laptop and no longer have the files and supporting notes I had made. I did unroot from the menu in SU so I now no longer have SU installed. I checked with a root checker and I am no longer rooted.
This is my current setup:
Android version
4.0.4
Baseband version
N7000XXLRK
Kernel version
3.0.15-N7000XXLRK-CL811902
[email protected]#3
SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 16 20:50:37 KST 2012
Build number
IMM76D.XXLRK
The big question is:
Can I safely do a factory reset?
No. You need to install a safe kernel for that. Install philz from stock recovery and do a factory reset. Then you will get su again. Follow the unroot procedure
Is there a kernel that will get the Note back to stock? I would like the person that's getting the phone to be able to use Kies for future updates.
The bad thing is I can't remember the files I used, but it wasn't CWM. I had held off rooting because of so many issues until I read about this method that has only been available a couple of months. It rooted but remained stock. I remember it was supposed to take care of the emmc bug problem. Problem is I ran one of the bug checkers and it still says the issue exists.
Maybe I accidentally did the right thing. I have been frantically searching through back up's and found a file I downloaded on 11/5 (Philz-cwm6-XXLRK-XEU.2.7-signed.zip). I have been rooted less than a month so I'm thinking that was it. Is there a way to verify if that was the file I used? I remember It was simple and supposedly trouble free.
As your rom is xxlrk, that the file you need to use.

I'm basing this on the understanding that only the leaked ICS kernels has the brick bug when wiping.

After updating to ICS i get these problems. Somebody knows about this problem? I don't know how to fix it and really need the functions.
Thank you!!
What is your current setup? Are you rooted? Are you on a custom ROM?
Did you just have a stock unrooted system, get the ICS upgrade, and then lose touchscreen functionality?

Yes, the phone was not rooted when it happened, now it is.
I came from rooted GB so I lost the root. After updating to ICS the home and search button doesn't work anymore, lost some options in the powermenu and i can't get the lockscreen anymore.
i read something about missing provision.apk somewhere but don't know what to do now.

I hate to ask an obvious question, but have you tried a system factory reset? It's a PITA, but can cure a myriad of ills after the upgrade.
Back to stock recovery, help!
Hi, need help with my beloved Moto G (XT 1063). I rooted it, installed custom recovery and image and used it for months like that, two days ago went back to stock (restored from nandroid backup) and got a message about the new OTA update, download it but TWRP cannot install it, the phone just turns off again and again. Restored it once more, but this time did not give it a go to update. My question is, is it possible to flash just the original recovery (for Lollipop) and how in order to update the phone, or is it possible to stop the phone warning me about the new software being available all the time (so annoying). Thanks for any input.
Same here. My wife just got a new Zenfone 2, so I'm giving her Moto G 2014, XT1063 to my daughter.
I want to get it back to stock so it can get all the updates.
It currently has TWRP installed and is rooted.
Every single link I've found here in the XDA forum for the stock firmware for this phone is dead. The links all say they were pulled because of TOS violations.
Anyone have a mirror? Or are there any flashable zips that work with TWRP to get this phone current?

Have you checked these links?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3153533
For me the links are working but I know that Mega isn't allowed in all countries.
If you want to download with your mobile you need the Mega app, on your PC it can be done with the browser.
Choose the right firmware for your phone, extract the recovery.img and flash it.
Use the full unroot function of the superSU.

Hi,
I have been thinking for a while to install a custom ROM, but I have never done it and when i read about it before I had a lot of doubts, and when searching the net and mostly the xda-developers forum, there is so much information and so many roms I am not sure of what to do. I have been looking around but seems that some information already has some time and i am not sure if it is up to date.
First of all, I am thinking of doing this because I keep getting space problems and i can't get rid of some google apps I don't need, for example. I keep deleting programs caches and stored files but I get problems all the time when i try to update apps, and I have very few apps. Would installing a new mod would help me with this issue?
I have unlocked the sim card, would this affect the installation of a new mod? or is it something completelly independent?
I know my phone has the brick bug (as all notes seem to have), how would that affect the installation of a new mod?
I am looking for a mod that is fast, lightweight and easy on the battery and that seems to be activelly kept, maybe something like carbon, cyanogen or speedmod? I understand this is probably a highly debated subject...
So, anyway, the current version i am using is a 4.1.2, updated to this version after I bought the phone.
So I have base band version N7000XXLT3 kernel version 3.0.31-1103517 [email protected]#3 smp preempt sat apr 20 02:25:55 KST 2013 build number JZ054K.N7000XXLT5
I also rooted it with SuperSu v0.95.
So if I understood correctly the next steps would be:
1- install a custom recovery kernell- I see a lot o philz being refered but I have read it is no longer being kept- maybe use TWRP or CMR? For this I use something like heimdall or odin, rigth?
2- So, after this I would use this new recovery mode to install the new mod.
And before this steps, I should backup the actual rom? And other stuff like sms messages and contacts should be done sparatelly?
Any further recomendations before I do this?
Thanks for all your help!
Hi All,
I bought a used S4, I would like to do 1 of 2 things, and want to note that I've never messed with a phones OS, rooting, or anything previously on any device.
I just need 6.0 pre march-17 security patch, OR, some way to make 1 app a system app. I think these are my only 2 options. Correct me if i'm wrong. Please let me know which is easier, and if anyone has a link to a guide that is still up to date, I would highly appreciate it. (I have attached images of "about device to assist")
I am assuming I need to either:
1) Install to Android 6.0, w/ Security patch prior to March 2017 (dec 2016 is perfect!) I know this will suit my needs.
OR
2) Root the 5.0.1 w/ Magisk. (hide root access from an app as well.) (Goal here is to make 1 app a system app, thats it!)
My issue is, I see A LOT of out-dated posts to root. - I went to TWRP when reading guide to ensure i can find all files i'll need before beginning, and TWRP website Says: "Only the earliest S4 for AT&T has a bootloader that is vulnerable to loki. If you took any updates or bought your device later on, you cannot install TWRP. Chances are, if you don't already have TWRP installed, you cannot use TWRP. Our images are already patched with loki so just root and flash. You cannot flash TWRP with Odin on this model." So I don't even know if I can get this accomplished.

Hey guys, please help me out. Since Samsung has now released the Stable android 10 update for S9, please find a way to root it. I am not able to root nor install custom kernel ElementalX on it.
I'm waiting for that too. No point in installing Android 10 until root works for me.
same question.
Ideally without wiping data if at all possible
thanks

I wouldn't recommend that on a main upgrade. It can give unwanted consequences. I always advocate doing a full reset on these.
---------- Post added at 09:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 AM ----------
Oh, btw, for my part it has to be a Magisk or similar root, since any visible root prevents me from using many apps I need to have, like VIPPS (Norwegian money transfer app), mobile banking, Google Pay and so on.

Thats the new verify thing from samsung.
The part is, that the system mount point is after init process. The init part has a dynamic mounting part and that is the problem actually.
The recovery rooting is also not working, of part from mounting issue.
I have check the mounting part, with a rooted recovery. At the moment we can not mount the system partition rw.
One way is to find a way patch the init part....but the way is open.
I hope john can help us....
Android 10 root solution found. Installed alexndr rom based on stock android 10. Working flawlessly with ElementalX kernel. Super smooth & snappy. This rom comes preloaded with Magisk root 20.3 & all the unnecessary stuff removed. Just flash the rom in twrp. No problems in flashing without wipeing data/factory reset. Completely stock looking firmware. No extra app added. Please check it out if anyone wants root on Andorid 10. Links below.

After this modification, is the system "/" partition read/write "rw" mountable?
I wouldn't call that a solution, I'm guessing that this ROM isn't available in Norwegian Telenor version.

Hey I'm on stock Android 10 already. How do I go about this? Flash TWRP and then this ROM? That's it?

Yes. Correct. 1st TWRP, then this rom. If you want to use any Custom Kernel like White Wolf or ElementalX, flash custom kernel after flashing the rom, then Magisk after it.

Caveat is that if you delete system apps you'll bootloop on restart
