how to disable software update - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i used to be into flashing roms etc when i had my dell streak, because it was so laggy and slow
but since I've had my note, i haven't even rooted it
it does everything i need and battery life and everything is brilliant
I'm scared that it will auto update software to another version when ota update is released, how can i prevent this?
i mean how to stop the update even being detected by my note?

Just don't tick the any of the options.
I have frozen it in titanium so it doesn't bug me.

That's also what I did. I get all my roms from xda or sammobile and flash them using mobile odin. This way I don't have to rely on samsung to release a rom for my country.

Well, there isn't a fix for the brick bug in 4.0.4 and there is roughly a 5% (I think that was the statistic) chance of bricking your phone if your phone is affected.
Yes you can upgrade but yes there is a little risk
But dont worry you have your warranty
And i think its the risk worth taking bcoz 4.0.4 is more stable than 4.0.3
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Go for it! 4.0.4 is really good
Classic ROM v1 LRG , Mod Pack 1 , Green Theme with SpeedMod K3-9 kernel.
go 4 it....its really more smoother than 4.0.3 update...!!!:good:

So far as I know, upgrading your stock ICS to 4.0.4, through Kies, should not lead to any brick issue. Worst Case, if anything does happen, U do have warranty for the same.

Need Your Advice, especially sometime i don't understand everyone are talking about..

I'm a newbie in this forum. and also newbie with android, especially with samsung galaxy note.
accidently, i succesfully super bricked my new smartphone, which is samsung galaxy note i bought about 2 weeks ago, samsung galaxy note officially ICS stock rom LQ2.
i'm not quite understand with this kind of rom.
after met samsung service center, and thanks to my "sweet" talk, they agreed to replace with new phone even though i got exclamation mark.
-----
and thanks to dr ketan, i rooted my samsung galaxy note once again using fast way + notecore v12 .. and thanks to chainfire who make triangle away.
-----
after i read some threads in general. i'm kinda intrested with custom rom such paranoid from imilka.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
but after i bricked my note last week, i'm kinda affraid to custom my note once again.
so I need your advice ..
i'm not understand with
DON'T flash FROM ANY SAMSUNG ICS OR ROMS BASED ON SAMSUNG KERNELS (my CM9, AOSP, etc) Flash any stock GB rom with odin / or any GB kernel [instructions] root device [instructions] and reboot into recovery once again before flashing this
Install Rom: http://d-h.st/I9m
Install HYBRID Gapps: http://www.paranoid-rom.com/index.ph...pps-hybrid.zip
Wipe caches, factory reset is a must if you're coming from another rom than CM9
If your statusbar is gone after the first reboot: longpress Powerbutton > Toggle Statusbar
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi under Settings/Paranoid Settings/P.A.D. Hold the powerbutton to see the new fullscreen-togglebutton
ok now i want to ask :
my rom is official samsung ics + notecore v12 kernel. do i need to flash my note into stock gb rom? so if i need to flash into gb, which gb i must download ? dr.ketan give us an option to choose, directly rootable and non rootable directly. what is that mean?
which one should i choose ? and how about the kernel ? do kernel change after i flash GB stock rom ? or i need to change my kernel too ?
and if i need to flash other kernel ? which one is a good one kernel ? especially for custom rom like cyanogenmod9 or paranoid.
sorry for my bad english.
i need your advice.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Experimental ROMs are those ROMs which are not stable i.e. which are very buggy and have (sometimes) major issues.
Eg. Here and here
They say clearly that many things are not working.Don't flash these as a noob. We'll help if you run into troubles,of course, but its better to stay away until you learn more.
Anyways, I'd better say this before the lynching party gets here:
""PREVIEW DISCLAIMER:
This is a PREVIEW : CyanogenMod 10 is nowhere near ready to be used as a daily driver (lots of features still have to be merged)""
as copied from the CM10 dev thread.

Can some explain to me why I would change my Kernel?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note NT-7000 which I won in a UK competition ..
Orignally it came with Gingerbread and had excellent life - then I did the official OTA update to ICS 4.0.3 and then I found it much slower and battery life sucked
So I decided to try rooting it to allow me to reset the battery calibration file.
I followed a very good video guide BUT I didn't add the Kernal, simply because I have no idea what the Kernal does.
I am confused as to what a Kernal is and what's the pro's and cons of different Kernals - perhaps that would make for a good video?
As far as I am ware my Kernel is whatever came with the phone. What is the safest / best Kernel to put on a Galaxy Note NT-7000?
I keep hearing for trying out new ROMs that something called the Abyss Kernel is safest? Could someone explain why this is the case and what's the latest version for my phone.
I used to have a ZTE Blade and used to flash ROMs on that all the time using ROM Manager but I don't ever remember anything about a Kernel.
When I tried ROM Manager on this phone it doesn't have any option for Samsung Galaxy Note, so I didn't go ahead and install the ClockWork Recovery.

All the ICS galaxy note has eMMC bug which can brick your phone due to wipe/factory reset.so,kernels basically save you from that.and plus gives you better performance and stability.and you can do many stuffs by rooting+wd a good kernel.
if you want a kernel for your stock rooted ics 4.0.3.then go for speed kernel or notecore.both are good and double safe.
You are with a dangerous kernel right now
Flash speedmod or notecore kernel which are asfe and emmc bug free
OK I've done a bit more reading since I posted and researched, so starting to understand a bit more was a kernel does
So right now I have a standard GalaxyNote ROM 4.0.3 (although I removed two Apps Weather App and Yahoo! Finance)
So if I want to simply change the Kernel, all I have to do is push the volume up button, home key and power and then it will book into the standard CWM and from there choose update from ZIP? and that is all that is needed to update the Kernel?
I was thinking of updating using the latest version of SpeedMod on this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072
speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-CWM.zip
This version of ClockWorkMod doesn't have any backup option listed will an option to backup appear when I update the ZIP file?
I also now have Mobile Odin Pro could I use that in anyway to update the Kernel?
Do I need to change my Kernel from stock Kernel if I wish to load a totally new ROM using Mobile Odin Pro?
I was looking at perhaps trying Classic_ROM_V3 .zip which looked pretty good?

Mobile odin can be used to flash stock ROM not custom, you can flash custom kernel in same operation while flashing stock ROM with Mobile odin (by selecting custom kernel for kernel Tab)
Custom ROM will already have safe kernel, though you can change later.
Use mobile odin to flash your new custom kernal (a safe one free of emmc bug) you should then have clockwork recovery instead of stock and you can then flash new roms through said clockwork recovery. Or stay stock with the custom kernal.

Cool .. I used Mobile Odin and the speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar Kernel File .... all went well.
Now I am on Samsung's Stock 4.0.3 ROM
I've backed up this ROM in CWM to the SD Card
I ran some benchmarks before and after the Kernel upgrade - according to all the benchmarks it'snow running slower then before BUT the real world user experience seems faster.
If I were to do a Factory Reset would this Kernel now remain in place?
Also on the website I download the Kernal from (http://touristinparadise.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Samsung Galaxy Note)
It states This version is only for Samsung ICS ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or AOKP ROMS!
Does that mean Original Samsung ICS ROMs or does it also include ROMs which might be based on Samsung ROMs?
Main thing I want to try now is moving to an ICS 4.0.4 ROM so I can use the new Movable Video Feature and perhaps squeeze some more everyday battery life out of my phone.
Yes that is only for samsung galaxy note....it wnt work 4 custom roms......

Nope.. its still bricked... I'm doing some R&D on it... ODIN is able to recognize it... planning to take it to the service center if it doesn't work. What I'm looking for is the best ROM as well as Kernel based on S III as well as touchwiz after I unbrick my phone. Most of my frenz suggest I NOT install XXLRQ German ROM / Kernel on my phone as it corrupts it after 45 dayz... give me some ideas please...

Im assume your devices still alive....
1). Root your devices with dr.ketan guide.
2.) Download speedmod k13-3 or hydracore 5.3 kernel. And flash it.
3). Download classic rom v6 ( stable and battery friendly)
4). Put v6 on your devices sd card.
5). Boot into recovery mode. And perform full wipe.
6. Install v6 rom. Done.
Good luck mate.

The instructions I followed are as below -
"Instructions
Copy the ParanoidAndroid Jelly Bean ROM and the GApps package to your phone’s internal SD card.
Switch your phone off and boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. To do this, press and hold down the Volume Up, Home, and Power buttons together until the phone boots into recovery.
NOTE: You can use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power buttons to select an item or option in recovery.
Make a NANDroid backup of your current ROM in case of problems. To create a backup, go to Backup and Restore and select Backup.
Select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm the action on the next screen. Wait for the process to finish.
Select Wipe cache partition and confirm the action on the next screen.
Go to the main menu and select Advanced. From there, select Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm the action on the next screen.
Select Install ZIP from SD card.
Select Choose ZIP from SD card and navigate to the ParanoidAndroid Jelly Bean ROM ZIP file. Select the file and confirm the action on the next screen to start installing the ROM on your phone.
Once installation of the ROM is done, install the GApps package in the same manner as in steps 7 and 8.
After GApps is installed, select Go back and choose Reboot system now. This will reboot your phone to the newly installed ParanoidAndroid ROM.
NOTE: First boot may take up to 5 minutes.

I guess the German ROM / Kernel for XXLRQ are a scam... not sure though...
so i guess u wiped on a stock ICS kernel.
as u still have access to download mode ,,, just try to flash a GB rom and then reboot into recovery and do the wipes and check if the phone starts.
once it does u can think of installing PA JB

V6 was the lastest LR9 ics 4.04 based custom rom. Which S3 launcher from samsung was original come with that rom. It almost include all the available features from s3. But not 100%, such as smart stay you need to download from third parties.
You are looking for s3 launcher look , stable and battery friendly rom right?

[Q] Differences between HK and GERMANY 4.1.2 GALAXY NOTE LEAKED OFFICIAL ROM

I just flashed the HK Firmware from Sammobile LM5 and here are my thoughts after a day of use and I wanted to know the differences from the GERMANY .
- No more 'action shot' in Camera ( but was faster in capturing )
-No Airview
- Non custamizable notif panel
- Swype was laggy
- Noticed there was wakelock but was gone after wipe/factory reset on official 4.0.4 kernel
- No page buddy
- Google now is great , but cant press the menu button ( the menu appeared for 1 sec then when back )
Please let me know if Germany rom has such problems.
