Video recording app now in the market, tested and works ok overall but no sound. To stop recording hit back button. Very buggy!!
watts da name of it
yeah it's working well.
very, very buggy mind you, alot of force closing but, hey, it works i suppose.
quality's not too bad but it's really slow, so as long as you keep still it works fine
i'll get a little video uploaded to show you.

Been trying to find it myself, all it has in the program file is a bunch of blank pics! Man its a start but buggy as hell!!!
on the website it says there's gonna be an update in the next 2-5 days so lets hope the bugs get ironed out. also i'd quite like to see more stable recording and sound
but maybe i'm asking too much
Interesting. Pity about the bugs and no sound, but it's a start, which is very good.
Good start. Bring on the updates.
Keeps asking to update! very annoyin
i saw this app today, for some reason decided not to download it
but its a "good" start
hope to see this being updated constantly.
How could u not even try it out .
I grabbed it as soon as physically possible.
It needs a lot of work.
And yes, MJPEG
Really needs some work haha.
EDIT: I just realized that my post has a lot of smilies
Update Released!
New update with a much cleaner interface. The videos are stored(i use this loosely) onto the sd card in /.org.android7/videorecorder. Uses about 16m for 10 seconds of video. The audio works as long as you also have the VoiceClient installed, it's not very loud but it's there.
After opening the app press record to open the recorder window(your not recording yet) hit menu-record to record and the same to stop recording.
I'm curious how the recording is working? It would be nice to at least be able to re-assemble the recordings on my machine.
In the video folder there are two file types blah.3gp [16kb] (appears to only be the audio) and a group of blah.jpg [~225kb] images (tho these are not viewable even on my pc?) any ideas?
The videos it makes are not viewable on any of the other viewers on android either. (the only thing it's really missing)
Well, it seems to get better with updates.
2 things i realized...
1) When you replay a video after you record it, it plays like its on fast-foward or 2x.
2) If you delete a video from your phone, the video gets deleted(Why is 30 seconds of recording 32 Megs by the way?) BUT the audio files from the video(which the file type is .jpg also, weird?)stays in the anroid7.org folder so they never really delete, you have to manually go in there and delete them when you USB to your comp.
Either way, i consider the effort and applaud him for the first video recording app of its kind on the android OS, i see potential in the future.
built-in video player?
I'm confused.. I know g1 doesnt have a built-in icon for video player but i just noticed that i can open a video file using an astro file manager (unless astro has a video player itself).. it has an auto-rotate function too and looks like the Video Player in the Market.. hhmm.. And currently, I dont have any video player program installed in my G1... Can someone clarify this?
Ya, I've tried rebuilding the 'video' into something useful. The Audio file name is xxxxx.jpg.3gp (amr i believe) and the images 225k each ~2/sec don't appear to actually be .jpg, nor can i get them open with .gif .bmp .jpeg .png as extensions
this is on windows, maybe they'll turn up something more promising on *nix.
I quit testing this.
It's not encoding nothing only take fast pics and save de audio on 3gp format.
It's good to see that we can take pcitures so fast because this show us the real posibilities with this cam on HTC G1.
Google has to build something using the internal h264 posibilities of decode/encode(i guess) to encode the pics and audio on real time(too heavy processing ?)
Till that time....just wait and see
It CAN.
WinMo guys did.
Prove me wrong.
HTC Touch Diamond T-mobile G1
Main specs:
Qualcomm MSM7201 CPU Qualcomm MSM7201 CPU

3.2 MP Camera, no flash 3.2 MP Camera, no flash
OS: WinMo OS: Google Android
Videorecording:
352x288x30fps None.
So:
1) It is definately technically possible.
2) Hey, WinMo does Android, the open source, WTF???
Where's Our Video Player?
Does anyone remember TCPMP / Core Player on WinMo?
Why can't we have that satisfaction on our G1's???
Is it the hardware-decoder thing? Is it OTW?
Anyone know what's up?
There is a video player, It's called Video Player....
I got this app from my HTC Magic HK Version, it can see youTube HD!! How can i install this apk in Hero Rom~~
I don't know anythink about the YouTube HD app but the basic Youtube app allow to see in "normal quality" and "high quality".
I'm not sure that the HTC Magic is capable of playing 1280x720 video ... on his 480x320 screen.

Copy the *.apk to your sd-card and open the file with ASTRO. ASTRO is a free application that can be found on Market. This application can do much more that just install applications from a file (apk), it's recomended to have this app
Thanks for the file!
Oh damn, I've been waiting for this. I'll give this a try!
Edit: Doesn't work.
I guess wishing for HQ vids over 3G/HSDPA is still a dream... no pun intended =/
This worked flawlessly on my Archos 5 Android, thanks.
is this the same as selecting high quality in the original YouTube application?

how did you get it working?? I'm having trouble getting it to run in the archos 5 android.
little tutorial maybe...?
are you guys serious? there is an option in the regular youtube app to select a higher quality. so i dont really see the need for this apk??? Im not trying to be mean by any means though. Just saying some people might have been a little misinformed
I think people are wanting to watch the videos in high definition, rather than high quality.
well as someone stated before our devices wont play higher than 430x320 res
anyone knows why i could only chose normal or high quality only when i am on wifi connection but not 3G??
(windows) search "folder options" > '"veiw tab" > make sure "hide extensions for known file types " is UNchecked..... rename "youtube.zip" into "youtube.apk
Does anyone have a youtube.apk that defaults to playing the normal (low) quality version of the video. I want to use it on a Eken tablet pc but it doesnt like the high quality videos freezes on the first frame even though sound continues but low quality setting plays ok
Download the zip
Extract the apk
Put it in your sdk tools folder
open command prompt
Navigate to your sdk tools folder
connect your phone via usb
type in command prompt:
adb remount
adb push YouTube.apk /system/app/YouTube.apk
Voila! It works, atleast these steps worked for me..
// Note: Thats how you get it on your phone..
Still doesnt default to highquality
I don't know if it's already been posted or not.
You know that our SD cards (internal and/or external) is FAT32 formatted, so the FileSystem size limit is 4Gb.
This means that if you want to copy on your phone one file .Mkv bigger than 4Gb you can't
Some users have tried to split the Mkvs in several files less than 4Gb using tools like MkvMerge, but the Phone doesn't recognize the files outputted.
But if you split the file on a Linux OS (Ubuntu i.e.) the files generated works perfectly on the phone.
I have tested it on Ubuntu using MKVMerge, starting from a 4,8 Gb Mkv file splitted in 3 files (2Gb-2Gb-800Mb), files copied on the phone and played perfectly with the default Video Player.
There's a much easier way as well, though I've only tried this once:
If you connect the phone in Kies mode (in the usb settings) and it connects properly you will get a "GT-I9000" Device show up in my computer instead of the standard lettered drive under "Devices with removable storage". It seems that you need to have Kies running in the background (with the icon in your system tray) but not fully open for this to work (not entirely sure on this as Kies is finicky). When you double click on the GT-I900 device in my computer you will get options for the internal or external sd card (assuming you have one installed).
If you copy and paste a file onto either of the sd cards using this method, it uses the Kies background service to check the file. If it detects a media file that might not be supported it will give you a warning which you can choose to ignore and copy the file anyways. I've found that if you copy a larger than 4gb mkv it uses the Kies service to split the file and put it on the sd card automatically. This takes a while as it has to split/convert the file and then write a fair amount of data to the sd card over usb.
You may be confused when it finishes as it only shows 1 file, it is smart enough to hid the others. The size of the file seems to be the amount that the original one was over 4gb (ex a 4.7gb movie will show as 700mb), however if you check the space avail on the sd card you will see that it contains the full movie. I transfered a 4.7gb 720p rip of "Tropic Thunder" this way to my phone and it played just fine on the samsung video player.
Let me know if that works out for you, I havn't seen anyone else try this.
how about formatting the SD card as Linux EXT3 or 4
the use smb mount, so when it does the mass storage mount to windows you can simply drag and drop, without having to cut any video into 4 GB chunks due the FAT32 limitation?

Wow if this is true it is some pretty slick thinking ahead by Samsung both on the phone and PC side.. I think I will try this just for kicks, have a 6 GB MKV right here.
EDIT: Could not wait any longer... thing was maxing my CPU for 1/2 hour. I am pretty sure this is doing some kind of trans-coding.

This is exactly the test i would like to do, do you have already tested this way?
But, atm, i haven't any SD card to use and (most important) i would like to know if after having formatted in i.e. ext4 i will be able to re-format in Fat32.
And however, do i need a particular Memory Card Reader to read one ext? SD formatted card?

Yea just make sure that it's 720p and not too high of a quality level.. I know it doesn't do quite all MKVs as the format is not yet entirely standardized. It seems to handle 4~5gb 720p mkvs just fine though, they just take FOREVER to transfer.

I don't know that the phone would accept a file system other than fat32? Would be easy to find out though.
i have some videos that are larger than 4G
i'll definitely give it a shot to test the Linux partition theory.
I'm almost positive it'll work, as the "Lag Fixes" solution all uses the EXT3 and EXT4 partitions anyway.
but in our case we want to use it natively for video playback, and be able to mount it when we want to use it with Windows
re: question about formatting back to FAT32 after EXT3
Yes, it's possible and safe to do so.
As soon as i have more time in my hands, i'll give this a go, unless some one beats me to it (some one with more time on their hand)

Haha yea it's software encoding, I think having Samsung encode it so it could run on your GPU would be a bit too much to ask lol. A 4.5gb movie took my quad core about 25 minutes to encode and then transfer.

Have you tried this yet? I've googled all over. Cant find solution how to format and use external SD like this. Found this thread and posted in it as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975803
u can download mkv smaller than 4gb..and graphic will be still great =)
Its not just movies I want to be able to place on sd card. I can't split those files. And I don't want to convert existing mkv files to a lower resolution, spend time on that.... its not a quick process to compress the resolution. I much rather be able to copy what i have now to my phone, instead of having to modify. ...

I use http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/
You can set the file size and even remove unwanted subs and/or audios.
I have mkvtoolnix and have used it. Thats not the question, but thank you
Anyone knows?
not losing hope. It will be useful for others, I am sure.
compressing the file would help
as in making DVD sources with less channel or less quality can drastically reduce the file size without too much sacrify to HD quality
say for example choose 720 instead of 1080
2 channels instead of 6 channels
or even if you keep it 6 channels make it 160 instead 320, or maybe drop it lower to even 128 kbps
use 44 instead of 48
use 25 fps instead of 30fps
etc...

Deleted! Wrong place
I was experiencing broken/green flash videos with MIUI.
At first I set permission to 000 for /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data
This does the trick for some devices, but not for the 2X (at least for mine).
So, instead I set the config.data like this:
DeviceCert=1
HeapSoftLimit=120
HeapHardLimit=150
HwH264=bp:108000,15;mp:108000,15;hp:108000,15;
ProductVer=11.0.1.x
In practice, I changed the fps to 15 and now the videos play fine!
Remember to give again permissions to the file if you have changed them!
It works for every browser, just change this folder in the path: /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins
Awesome!
But for a total noob, how would one go about changing the permissions?
Using ADB, i'd guess?

The easiest way is probably through rootexplorer..
You can change files permissions from ADB shell, or from a terminal emulator on the device by using the command "chmod nnn" where "n" are numbers from 0 to 7.
For example 777 give all permissions to all users, while 000 to nobody (except root).
Or you can simply use a root explorer program on the device
Hey,is it necessary to edit this for each browser?
If yes,I can't find the folder of dolphin browser.
BTW,is it limit the video on 15fps?
I think dolphin folder is something like "mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser"
For the fps I don't think the framerate is limited to 15 fps.
From adobe site:
A frame rate of 30 or 25 fps often overwhelms Flash Player. If the video is recorded at 29.97 or 30 fps, use a frame rate of 15 fps

When i try to edit the config data file with root explorer its blank... There aren't any letters, what am I doing wrong?
Sent from my LG Optimus 2X using Tapatalk
I know it's strange...but through ADB you can see file content...must be some kind of root explorer bug.
Try this: remove all config.data permissions.
Now you can edit the file through root explorer.
Save and set again permissions (give them all if you don't remember).
You're good to go.
Thank you SO MUCH for this fix! Works like a charm now.
Finally in can watch StarCraft 2 streams on Twitch.tv!
Thank you very much!
Videos in stock browser seems to work now!
But I could not activate the trick for Opera Mobile (which is far smoother and usable than stock browser...).
The similar folder in opera should be
/data/data/com.opera.browser/plugins_data/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player
in this folder there are the same directories "#SharedObjects" and "adobe.com" like in stock browser, but there is no "config.data" file.
So I copied the same file here, restarted everything.. butthe videos are still corrupted with opera
I'm sorry to say that probably Opera doesn't support config.data file
I tell you this because in the devices for which revoking permissions to config.data solved the problem, Opera seemed to work!
I've tested this solution so far only for stock browser and Dolphin HD.
No video bug has made it onto stock firmware.
After upgrading to Cyanogenmod 7.1 on Desire Z (g2/vision) and finding iplayer would only play audio I have done pretty much everything in this thread.
The best I managed was a forced downgrade of flash to 10.something and just ignore all the "update available" messages. I still can't play live TV, but recorded programs are okay. Frame rate isn't as high as it could be, but at least it works.
I resigned myself to this and thought about going back to stock or wait for CM9. Given all the problems I had getting notification lights and GPS to work on my "supported" Desire Z with CM7.1 I'm not holding out much hope of CM9 resolving more problems than it causes, so stock was sounding tempting...
Then the other day my other half was offered an Stock OTA gingerbread update for her Desire HD (2.3.5 I think). Guess what, her iplayer doesn't play video now either! Her flash is up to date (11).
Hopefully this is good news for the rest of us, if mainstream firmware isn't working on iplayer then they are going to have to do something about it. I'll make sure she places a suitable 1 star review against the app on the market.
Thank you,it works very well.

Is it possible to play big .mkv files of 5-9GB on the Galaxy Note ?
If yes, can we just format SD Card to NTFS and the phone will recogonize it... OR do i have to do sum rooting and sum complex stuff for the phone to identify the card?
Also, can we play big files frm phones internal memory ?
I dont have the device myself, but by using lots of different Android devices, I would think it wont read NTFS drivers. I have used some Honeycomb tablet that had modules and custom apps to mount NTFS drives.
I think the device should support EXT2 formatted card, but if you were using linux with that filesystem already you wouldn't ask this.
I use softwares like AviDemux to split the MKV file. Also is there actually any Android software that provides hardware acceleration for MKV files, otherwise I would think HD MKV files would struggle to play smoothly.

Hull 1080p, works fine. Many videos on youtube!
Note can't play files over 4gb. Use an mkv splitter instead.
Using Es file manager network access + dice player worked well watching mkv files > 8GB over a network share.
Of course this approach may not be suitable for everybody.

Seconded, with mkvtoolnix it's actually very easy to do this, just load up the file, give a new file output name, set the file to split every e.g. 4000M and go.
It will take a while, but you get a serially-named group of files which are (as far as I can tell) exactly the same as the input, but split into 4000MB chunks. Dead easy.
Pity that the siyah kernel does not work on the note yet.
Siyah Kernel supports NTFS mounting of SD and USB-Storage.
