So here is the scoop. I've searched my a5s off in these forums but I can't get ahead. I have a i9000m that i want to root, apparently there is no one click root option for 2.3.3 GB, I've tried to flash a custom rom through odin, but can't seem to find the drivers for the device to be recognized in download mode. Basically all I am looking to do is unlock my phone, so before i pull the rest of my hair out and go back to my ****e old blackberry I am posting here, I know I'm the turd giving up and posting a new thread for questions that were probably answered eons ago. I also read somewhere that upgrading my touch button firmware was a good idea before flashing a new kernal..,. now they have decided to stop working
SG i9000m
2.3.3
baseband i9000UGKG3
kernal version 2.6.35.7-i9000ugkg3
[email protected]#2
build number gingerbread.gkg3
so if anyone can help me that would be great, because let's face it the blackberry doesn't hold up and I'd like to give it a good toss
EDIT: I've found the correct driver for the phone to be recognized, but I can't seem to find the original kernel anywhere. all the links seem to be dead.
So I'm wondering. CAN ANYONE SUPPLY THE ORIGINAL FIRMWARE FOR THE I9000M? I've read other users flashing the stock fw and then updating the keys in said fw and having their issue fixed. So can some kind soul please direct me to where I can find the files? Basically I'm looking for froyo 2.2.1 for the i9000m, but all the links are dead! and sammobile.com is down. can somebody supply said rom so I can flash back to original and fix my soft keys, which are essential to the galaxy..

Registry patch it and under poof select the one that say's canada. Forgot which one. I did it that way and i was on jpo.
Oh and fyi, wrong section.
First, sorry about the section
Second, I'm not that expert in these topics, how do I registry patch it?

Thank you for your help...I will try this.
I too need some place to download JK4... I have a Captivate, so I can't use Samsung's update thing.

I am newbie to Android. So, please bear with my questions below. I used to own an iphone before, and when you reloaded the OS that you get from Apple you know it is the original. With Android it is little different.
I rooted my captivate and now I need to return it to AT&T. Need to load the original ROM.
I did download Odin 1 Click for android 2.1 AT&T Stock ROM? How do I know that it is the actual ROM AT&T/Samsung had put on the Captivate?
There are so many ROMS everybody is putting it out there...just wanted to be sure. I know AT&T or Samsung just don't give out the ROM.
If I have posted this in the wrong forum, please let me know.
Thanks
There is a question and answer section for these posts and it is the stock rom, that's what the thread says. Just read how to use and watch the videos if you're having trouble.
If it says stock it *should* be stock. And since it's Odin one click to stock you should be safe.
Sent from my Captivate
Look up your build number. If 1010 our higher jf6 iud not such and I would avoid odin one click
Is under battery
It is 1008.
But how do you get the Android 2.1 Stock ROM ?? AT&T or Samsung don't give it out. Am I missing something here.
As I said earlier for iphone you could the get ios file from Apple.
Odin injects the stock rom back into your phone
you need to be in down load mode
Open odin
Pull bat, sim, and ext sd
Put bat back in
Hold volume up and down
While holding plug usb
Should have android with shovel on screen.
A box in odin should turn yellow
Click start, watch the magic
Correct odin. Stock for the captivate is jf6
http://www.fileserve.com/file/emnCn2j
But how do you get the Android 2.1 Stock ROM ?? AT&T or Samsung don't give it out.
I am asking once again the same question as nobody is really answering to the question.Sorry about that.
Android is open source. All official software releases are out there.
What are you looking to do, you are not being clear
All I wanted to make sure is that I get the CORRECT ROM to put it back on my Captivate before I return it to AT&T.
Thanks
hmm so when you are told that the odin one click program flashes jf6 stock software (includes all at&t bloat ware) you continue to ask the same question. Good luck
I believe the stock 2.1 rom is embedded inside Odin so when you flash it returns to stock. There is no need to search for the stock 2.1 rom.
please correct me if Im wrong...I'm learning too..
Read the odin thread. Please if you have questions, post in q&a.

This is correct. I HIGHLY advise you to search for Connexions "how to" videos. It shows you how to use odin to return to stock. So easy, a caveman could do it.
Look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
However, I have to ask the OP this: you mentioned that you rooted your phone, but did you flash to a different ROM? If you didn't flash to a different ROM, all you have to do is to unroot your phone and you're set to go.
LOL I think what the OP is trying to ask is this:
How do we know that Odin is using the correct, stock ROM directly from Samsung/ATT, so that when he flashes the phone with Odin and sends it back to AT&T, they don't tell him hes got the wrong software on it and void the warranty.

I'm so happy that you found it necessary to flame the thread for an answer.
Relax man.
It's natural to be concerned about voiding the warranty. Nobody wants to shell out $$ for a new phone, right? The bottom line is this, numerous people on this forum have done far worse than rooting their phone and have returned it successfully for a replacement (like bricking it). So take a deep breath, and follow some of the good advice given already to either:
A) unroot your phone (look around you'll find how)
B) flash the stock ROM that's out there in numerous locations
then send the sucker back.
But a bit of logic will show that the 3 minutes gave you the WRONG answer.
IF the Odin program had the stock rom we would not have had issues like loss of 3 button recovery on some phones after using Odin. We also would not have 2 versions of Odin. (1 specifically to address the 3 button recovery issue). You also would still be able to perform an OTA update after using Odin, which once again, most if not all the Odin flashed phones are incapable of.
Odin MIGHT have A stock Rom, in which case Samsung/ATT are using more than one, but it does not have THE stock ROM.
Now if the concern is just to get it close enough to return the phone, the guys at the exchange desk don't know enough about the phone to tell the difference.

I looked at your post but it was confusing for me as i dont know much.
There were two download links..one was boot loader free ..other was different one.
Can you please send me the the right steps and link for downloading
thanks
Another resource is
MobileTechVideos <- good video guides.
That being said, modifiying your phone can lead to hard bricks. So above all read and understand everything. Most of the danger is flashing bootloaders (that's why you see packages with and without bootloaders, to limit the danger). If you corrupt one of the bootloaders or flash 2 different (none matching) bootloaders you need a Jtag or UnbrickableMod service. When flashing Gingerbread you NEED gingerbread bootloaders. Once flashed you are golden and don't have flash those ever again.

i checked above forum where u helped the guy with upgrading UCJI6 to GB.
He had issues while upgrading but eventually he was succesfull.
I could not find which method he used ..
please help me if possible
Read up on how to get in Download mode and how to use ODIN (or Heimdall if you are running a none windows machine). Download a Stock gingerbread rom with bootloaders and flash. The latest is KK4, but i've never used that specific package (though it should have bootloaders) I can speak for KJ3 on that thread.
Basics.
Open ODIN (1 click or not) as admind
Get in download mode (press vol up+voldown+connect to computer
If normal ODIN use the PDA slot and select the .rar.md5 package
Hit start
Let it finish and bootup
???
profit
I'm not responsible if anytthing should go wrong. If odin gets stuck or you do something wrong you will soft brick or possibly hardbrick your phone.
i am giving up.
Can not find any links and steps which are of great help for Upgrading to GB from UCJI6.
Some are going back to 2.1 before upgarding some not.
Dont know what to do
Going back to stock is-was only used for cwm flashes. You will use ODIN. 2 way different things. Follow my steps. Or read through the tons of threads here. It isn't that hard.

he gave up because he couldnt find EXACT instructions on going from one particular FROYO build....because if he had done any actual research, he would know that it doesnt matter what version of FROYO he is on, he will need to flash the ODIN package with the bootloaders....its all covered in the vast damn posts that already cover this extensively. there was ZERO reason to fire up a new thread.
he has been linked to good info and has refused to take heed. reading and UNDERSTANDING is more important than holding hands around here.
Yes we were all noobs once and yes, you need to do your research but he's obviously nervous and not understanding what he's reading right now. Hopefully he'll calm down and understand the information he's been given. We're done here.
Hi XDA developers,
I'm a newbie. I've been searching posts on xda and still couldn't remedied the problem. I currently have the i9000m from Bell Canada. I upgraded my i9000m to 2.3.3 Gingerbread earlier in Kies. Recently, I've been trying to unlock my phone and without rooting, the best solution seems to be going back to Eclair, so I followed the youtube tutorial by djeddieone and tried to go back to Eclair using Odie. It basically flashes a rom (I suspect that's a T-mobile rom that shouldn't be flashed onto my phone) in Odin. My phone no longer boots and cannot get into recovery mode. (When I try to start the phone, there are random colour dots showing on the screen.) The only mode that works seems to be downloading mode. I think I need to flash a stock rom from bell, but the link on sammobile (i9000ugjk3) seems to be expired and cannot be downloaded. So i'm trying to find alternative ways to see how to remedy this problem.
Thanks in advance.
I highly doubt that Bell will release a new update for the i9000m. You are better finding a newer rom (JVT or newer) and flashing that via Odin. Im using CM9 nightlies (but I feel it has too many bugs for daily use). If you can find a newer rom that is tweaked, you should notice better battery, faster, etc.
Just my $0.02
Hey I had similar issue - tried flashing new firmware w/odin & stuck with download only... I finally went to a Bell store to send it in, but they were able to use new firmware recovery software to re-flash stock gb2.3.3! I just said Kies messed-up the phone... Anyway, it will get you back to stock functionality. Good luck!

Since you can still get into download mode, you're OK.
You can download the UGKG3 ROM files from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Search for UGKG3.
The file is in 7Zip format. If you don't have something to unpack it, get IZArc.
Flash the 3 files and you should be up and running.

After you restore your phone to KG3 via Odin/Download mode per Black Rose's link earlier in this thread, you should be back where you started on KG3.
Then from KG3 ( 2.3.3),
I suggest:
1) Use SuperOneClick to root your phone (SuperOneClick can also UNroot your phone later if you want).
2) Use Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz available on the G-store.
This worked well for me with no problems.
And just for reassurance, NEVER flash a ROM that is not explicitly for the i9000/i9000M to this device.
So I was trying to root my i9000m and I read a forum post that advised me to update the soft key fw before doing so... little did I know I was on a custom fw already so it broke my soft key functionality. I've read a few posts that have instructions to fix the problem, by rooting the stock fw for the model and updating soft key fw before rooting again. problem is my phone was originally on FROYO and I can't locate the original file anywhere. can anybody point me to a file dl for the stock fw, or maybe someone has the file on their computer they would be willing to share? it's a bit frustrating not having the keys to go back, and i can't use certain apps due to not having a menu key..
If you don't find what you are looking for, try updating to a custom ROM that includes a Navigation Bar, as shown in the attached pic.
What's the ROM in the screenshot?
It's SlimBean 3.1 = Jelly Bean 4.1.2
With this ROM you can have up to 5 soft keys in the Navigation Bar.
This way you could care less about the phone's soft keys.
There are sites such as this one where you can find official Samsung roms
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9000M&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware
If you did manage to root your phone, you could also try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832638
Thanks nyloncrack, I didn't know that there were roms that included a nav bar! I will try that, and Marshian I've gotten the firmwares from sammobile but apparently my original firmware for the i9000m (Canada) was 2.2.1, which I have found, but apparently not found the proper version of the rom that came stock with my phone. I believe it was 2.2.1 froyo. I am currently running 2.2.1 froyo.xwjsd which seems to not be the correct version.
There's a thread here with a couple of roms for the I9000m, other than that I'm afraid I can't really be of any use to you. Good luck though!

I got the jl2 rom and reflashed and it worked! I downloaded UGJL2/UGJL2/BMCJL2/Sbl (MultiCSC): reflashed with pda, phone, and csc checked and then updated the touchkey firmware and voila! I got them from the same link you posted, just before you posted it, bang on Marshian!
It was actually really simple once I wrapped my head around it, now I just need to update to a newer, faster custom rom! now let's see if I can't get this rooted and unlocked again without messing it up . any suggestions for a good, bug free rom? I haven't looked into it too much yet but i hear ice cream sandwich and jellybean are recommended for my device?

Good to hear!
I've got the I9001 so I don't really know what kind of roms are available for you, but in my experience for my own phone ICS is currently the best trade-off in features and stability. JB is still quite new and not fully ported yet, while ICS is nearly bug-free. It could be different for your model, that's just my two cents. Either way, as long as you don't brick your phone you could always try out a couple of roms and see what you like best. The only downside is changing a major version requires a full wipe.
I used this to go from gb to ics.
[HOWTO] Flashing CWRecovery to i9000m & upgrade to ICS AOSP 4.x ROM from any version
This way your i9000m becomes a i9000 for searching out new ROMs.
For whichever ROMs (ICS or JB) you'll always need to flash the KG3 modem.

I've tried using that guide before but the JVP link is invalid. i did a quick google search am i just looking for Gingerbread? because I have a file already on my computer titled "CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVP-v3.7-CWM3RFS.tar"
Yes, that will work.
Looking at my notes from back then I actually also used:
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVT-v4.3-CWM3RFS, and
CF-Root-XX-_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS
They were just later versions of GB.
JVU was Samsung's appeasement to i9000 users when they were told ICS wasn't coming. Had a couple of ICS features; window dressing.
Remember to make a full backup before touching anything this time
I've been trying for hours but I cannot for the life of me get windows to recognize the device in download mode. It was working fine until i updated the rom, then intermittently, then i updated the rom again and it has stopped working. i've uninstalled the drivers, tried with debugging on and off, restarted windows, installed the newest version of kies, bought a new usb cable, to no avail. this is maddening. is there a better alternative to do this on my mac? I'm using a virtual system running windows but I'm positive that isn't the problem, since it was working great before on vmware, and parallels. any ideas? I'm about a half hour away from selling this device and going back to the iphone haha.
so basically my question now is how do I downgrade back to the original firmware, so I can put this nightmare behind me? I had it unlocked and rooted on gingerbread before... don't ask me how it took many many hours. now the device isn't even being recognized in kies. If I don't get this figured out soon i'm flipping this b*tch for an iphone 4, because I do appreciate the one touch jb/unlock. I've literally wasted days of my life trying to figure this out and it doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere. too bad because I really appreciate the android system and all its capabilities but I don't have the time to waste on stuff like this
Another Edit! So, after fussing and fiddling, I decided to try one more time, I swear, I was actually going to give up at this point if it hadn't worked. so basically I removed kies, loaded the driver i was using, which was 1.3.450.0 and it didn't work, so I loaded 1.5.5.0 and it connected! My guess is that after updating the rom the driver was outdated, but I figured kies would give me the most up to date driver, seems it didn't oh well, I'm almost afraid to load ics since I've worked so hard and wasted so much time up to this point, but i've come this far...
one more edit, the kg3 modem kept crashing odin on me so I had to stick with the jl2 that was flashed earlier.. which doesn't give me network access, I'll try to find another file but is there any reason odin should be crashing like that due to this particular file?
hahaha, shouldn't speak too soon, jl2 works after reboot, should I update my modem firmware now, and what is recommended for my system {2.3.4} kernel {2.6.35.7} and if i flash to ics will I need kg3? Thanks for all the help with this seemingly never ending process
