Hello guys. I'b back to my favourite pastime, ie working out common things between the issues.
The goal is to gather some data to make sure phone we have is good quality one.
My biggest concern is crappy battery life and how it ties with cpu temperature. More heat more consumption, right? There is more to it, but that gives a simpler explanation.
Anyway, let's collect some reference data. First of all install some cpu temp monitoring app/widget. I use System Tuner myself which allows me to create handy widgets. Then monitor it when using browsing, xda app and 2d games. Ie, hit home button in the middle of playing/browsing and have a glance. Do it in room temperature (18-21 celsius) for consitency between results. Then post average reception, screen on time and time off the charger and remaining battery. Finally, your setup.
Here is an example. Real life results i will provide tomorrow.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do I get these results you speak of? I've just downloaded System Tuner and it's a bit overwhelming in options to be honest.

Thanks for trying.
It's simple. Place widget (1x1)on one of the home screens, click on widget, settings, widget, choose one of the values (top, middle or bottom) as cpu temp and exit. That's it. Quite customisable so you can play around with it later to make it fit your setup. I have it like that (middle left)

Quite surprised by results considering poor reception. I'm starting to thing it IS due to poor reception mainly. I use battery monitor widget and it shows a lot higher drain%/h when reception is low.

My $0.02: It's not reception. My Galaxy Nexus was GREAT about not draining the battery when in a low or no signal area. Also, my work's building is also a T-Mobile tower, so I have full bars all the time and my battery just drains away, even while in standby.

It's not ONLY down to reception, here I agree. There are a few things that drain battery, forums are full of threads about them. But reception IS a major factor when it comes to good or bad battery life, that's just how things work.

So I got a 3500mAh Sedio battery a week ago, and so far its been great. With heavy usage it lasts atleast 2 days. But a weird thing happened to me last night...
I set my alarm, and noticed I had 30% battery left. I figured that was more than enough to last through the night, so I didn't plug it in. But in the morning, my phone was dead!
Check out the log:

This graph is showing a 70% drain over 40 hours, which is normal. But what happened between ~2am and ~7am!?!? (Very right of the graph)
The only thing I've done differently was turn the brightness down to very minimum so I could use it in the dark without burning out my eyes. That doesn't seem a likely cause for such a sharp battery drain though. I also made sure that all tasks were closed before sleeping, as I do every night.
Anyone have any thoughts about why this occurred? I certainly hope the battery isn't going bad already!
In my experience of lithium-ion batteries, the voltage drop tends to be non-linear, and can be very difficult to estimate. Because you are using a higher capacity battery than the standard HTC 1300mAh, it doesn't estimate your battery life as accurately. Mainly (I would guess) because the software is profiled to base it on typical voltage curves of the 1300mAh, and not your beastly 3500mAh. Typically with lithium-ion, you'll see a steady linear drop in voltage until some cutoff point, where it then takes an exponential curve down to zero. My guess is that particular voltage is somewhere when your phone thinks it's got about 25% life left. I don't think there is anything wrong with your battery or phone, I would just assume that your phone tends to over estimate slightly.
Another thing to consider is what the temperature at the time was. Temperature tends to affect the output voltage and then the % battery life as a result. If it was warm or cold, this would also skew the values of your battery life. Usually within typical room temperatures you would see no changes, but I don't know, maybe you live in an igloo!
Hope that helps. On that note, how do you like the 3500mAh? 40hrs sounds like a ton of extra juice! It's not too bulky or anything?
Thank you for your reply. What you say does make sense, but its really weird because I've been discharging it to 5% every time now (conditioning it 6 times, this is my 5th time). All the other times it was a steady drop from 30% to 5%, nothing fast like this, at least as far as I can remember. I'll certainly keep an eye on it though. It wasn't fun to wake up and realize I was late for work, haha.
The battery is fantastic. I use my phone all the time, mainly for games and surfing, plus tons of modding. Thought the day I'll receive a handful of texts, use maps once in awhile, and have bluetooth music going for 2 hours a day. On my 1300 battery, I had everything optimized for maximum battery life, and it'd typically be 20% at end of work day.
With this 3500 monster though, it only goes down to 70% at the end of the day. Its super nice. The battery makes the phone larger, sure. I thought it looked really ugly while I was researching the battery, but once I received it its no problem! Not an eye sore; the phone looks pretty much like it was made like that. I don't even notice it, both aesthetically and form wise. Fits in my hand just as well as it did before, plus the larger door protects the camera lens. Win win all around imo!
I diconnected my phone from the charger, and it was at 100% at 830 this morning and now at 1130 it is at 56%/. This is after probably abotu 1-1.5 hours of browsing the web on my phone and configuring widgets.
I was wondering if that is normal battery drain? I have been flashing my phone quite a bit lately and it seems that the battery life is not that great. I have already recalibrated my battery as well.
Also my phone is overclocked to 1.3ghz.
You might want a second opinion but I'm going to say yes
If there is evil in this world it lurks in the hearts of man.
1130 AM? If so that is not good at all.
Not good at all, I am running Pinnacle 1.2 for 29. 5 hours since last charge and I have 29% remaining, that includes roughly 3 hours display on time and just shy of 1 hour phone calls.
Very happy with Pinnacle 1.2

Yeah 11:30 AM. Perhaps I should look into flashing another rom, although I have been very happy with Apex 9.2 except with this battery issue.

If you're on Apex, try going without the overclock and switching to the DarkCore kernel. That might help your battery life a little bit.
Did the phone feel hot?
What kind of sites were you hitting? White background? Lot's of Flash?
You've got three things that I see hitting your battery hard - the data transfers, the screen and the CPU usage. Depending on how your overclock is set up, I'd guess it's causing your CPU to use at least 30% more juice.
I can get days of idle time, but only hours of heavy use out of my battery. There are certain web sites and games that seem to suck the battery dry.

I notice that I get much better battery life with i897 roms vs i9000 roms.

Well when my phone is on standby, I find that it drains at a reasonable rate. It is just when I use my phone that it drains fairly quickly.
You're doing it wrong.

29.5 hours? With Pinnacle 1.2 I'm getting about 8 hours with moderate use
Agree with jsfLip!
With moderate use, my Cap get out of battery in 8-10h.
Iam using Pinnacle 1.2, its standby status is quite good! 1-2% after 8h standby at night!
Please have a try!

and whats the definition of moderate use? Sorry I ask this but I have seen people with 4:30 hours of display calling it moderate.
Plus you need to caliberate your battery
Can't figure it out.

I've tried different settings on my phone and have not been able to get your kind of battery life.
I recently flashed MosaicVI and using the JV6 modem. After using this modem I have been getting better results but not quite as good as your.
What I'm trying to find out is there any certain setting you have your phone in, i.e. only on WiFI, Auto Display, sound, Disabling Your data when not using it? I would really love to get this kind of results. I'm sure everyone else would to.
Oh, I've also cycled my phone battery 3 times everytime I flash a different ROM. Please school me up on how to get those results.
P.S. I tried to quote you and reply but me being new to posting comments did not let me.
Go to market and download "Data switch". You will see marked improvement to your battery life.
So is that the secret? "Data switch".
All it does is turn off data usage so your cappy is not using data for all the background services (synch and such). Its what I use when I want the battery to last and don't need a data connection.
I have been readin on twitter that the bionic is one of the best 3G phones as far as battery life, especially after debloating...is this correct information? I'm debating selling my d3 and inc2 to get it..I won't have 4g till early next year but I love the screen and how light it is....let me know your thoughts on the battery life on 3G....
I live in a 3g only area and average at least 15 hours with moderate to heavy use, my best was over 17 hours and I still had 30% left, that was an average day of calls texts emails browsing youtube, etc.

I'm very happy with battery life in general, but have noticed marked improvement if I set it to 3G only. Over 18 hours yesterday and still had 20% left when I put it on the charger. Stock, unrooted.
I've been turning off 4g when I'm not using it and my battery life has at least doubled. after several hours it had only used 15%.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
This is with wifi and 4g on continuously. This is my normal usage of a few phone calls, a few texts and various goofing around but with no streaming, GPS or games. I would characterize this as light usage.

I've had my bionic unplugged since 7:30 am; I've been streaming Google music all day long while working on my house and have made a few call and a ton of text messages. Battery is at 30% as of 12:30 am. With 4G on I was only getting about 4 hours of device usage. I also have my WIFI set to sleep when the screen turns off. Really impressed with the battery life on this bad boy!
No screenshot to prove it but 34+ hours on heavy usage with less than 10% left before I charged. Facebook, college football, netflix, youtube, music, voice, text, etc consistently. 4g on 98% of the time. With extended batt. Blew my mind. Should've worn a helmet, now there's a mess everywhere.
Where I'm at for college there is great 4G coverage, but I'm on the "main campus" , opposed to the downtown one where I live, alot. It is 15miles away, with no 4G coverage, so I use 3G, and I do notice a significant increase in battery life. My battery seems to die rather quick sometimes, but I guess angry birds does that?
Hi Everyone,
Quick question on battery life implications ( if any ) when using themes developed for Watch Styler - is there an expected battery life implication, little, moderate or high (perhaps dependent on the complexity of the theme)? Or nothing at all?
I ask as I have noticed a battery life degradation recently, and I cannot seem to pin down any specific usage differential aside from recently starting to use themes for Watch Styler. Don't want to jump to any definitive conclusions.
Check this thread ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2659023
With stock faces I get 3 days of battery life. Using watchstyler I get 1 to 1.5 days worth of battery using the motion feature to wake the watch. If you set the gear not to wake up on motion, battery life can be as good as the stock face.

I would generally agree with your estimates, based on my experience.
The only thing is that i get worse battery life with watchstyler in use with or without motion. obviously motion zaps the battery badly but for me, watchstyler also kills it too.
Around noon, with watchstyler on, I have 75% left, normally without, i would have 90%. Its very noticeable.

Yes. For being BT PAN tethered all that time, thats good.
The question is: Did you have Watchstyler on? I would guess so, since your posting in this thread but I think it needs to be asked...
I beleive the background color of the pictures used also affects the battery. I've tested two themes and when using darker theme, the battery last longer.

Hello dear XDA friends, Although I don't post a lot I still love you all .
Anyway, I am really tempted to get a Mate S ($/€319) after my LG G3's screen basically broke in half, the battery exploded and the touchscreen only working 10%, it's basically useless right now and I need a phone to replace it for a while until I decide what's going to be my ''real'' phone (I hate Apple but the 7+ Camera is amazing but then again maybe note 7 refurbs will be cheap.) So yeah I need to bridge the gap and I want to gift it to a relative when I'm done with it.
So is it worth it for 300 bucks?
Hi,
I have the phone since 3 months now (rooted and latest rom version) and it is in overall very good but the battery. Screen is very great but although there are a good device manager, it doesn't stand a full day without reloading.
Also you can see from the different posts that this phone is not very popular among Android's cooks. So not a lot of answers and not a lot of tricks and tweaks. I regret the time I had a Nexus 4 where community was very active. Anyway, as I am really focused on battery life, this is the real flaw of this phone for me. But I guess there are not many phones that could do better.

What's the longest screen on time you got?
It actually depends what you gonna do with this phone.
I own it for last 8 months never really felt need for better battery during normal usage.
My typical usage with all the time brightness at auto and slider at max ( which on huawei even when inside usually means 80-90% brightness ) and outside always even when is dim day is 100% or boosted screen mode ends up with average 4:30-5h SOT with around 18-20hrs on battery. This is with about 60% wifi 40% 3g.
This includes bunch of social apps, youtube , music, calls, sms, light gaming of around 1hr per day.
The great thing about this phone is its soc and screen, the to S-amoled it never gets hot thus for it doesn't drain battery life fast like snapdragon devices.
Biggest fall of this soc is its GPU it isn't as good for heavy games like s810 devices for example.
If you're not a gamer I highly suggest this phone. If you have more money I suggest p9+, its a beast in all regards.
Here my current battery life stats

As you can see, I charged my phone and unplugged at 00.14. Wi-Fi off and no mobile data, no screen on. No apps running apart from home launcher and myProfile. All others are greenified. So in around 8h sleep it decreased by 20%.
I tried many tricks and I consider myself skilful for this (my LG G2 could last 3 days) but cannot do better with this one. The ROM is not good enough yet and update frequency is not good.
Got the LG G4 so this one can be closed
