[Q] Battery Life? - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My typical use case would be SMS via Google Voice a few times a day, checking email once or twice, and a couple of photos - with music playing in the car where I would have it attached to the charger. I would have the cell radios turned off since I would be using WiFi from my MiFi. Should I be able to get through the typical day without having to recharge halfway through?
The less typical use case would be my weekend shoots where I walk a few miles, take a ton of shots, and would be using the GPS and the WiFi to send most of them up to Instagram or the like. Will I get through a couple hours of photos without switching the battery?
Finally, any chance this will get the treatment where you can buy an extended life battery in return for a "bump" in the back?
Thanks in advance!

The battery seems pretty good to me. A few hours of fooling around with my Camera app development, downloading and testing new versions leaves my Nikon S800c at about 20 or 30% remaining on the battery, but the Samsung usually still has 60 or 70% remaining in the same time frame. Considering that the screen is on most of the time while I'm testing, and the Samsung screen is a lot larger, I'm pretty impressed with the battery.

Questions about Kaiser battery life

I've been researching this phone and I really like it so far, but I have a question about the battery.
I've read about the battery lasting something like 9 hours or so.. now my question is that 9 hours while constantly in use?
For example if I leave my house at 3:00 PM with a full charge hang out with my friends, end up at a bar at night, and I maybe talk for 20 minutes, send 5 txt messages and barely mess with the phone, will the phone dying around Midnight?
With that type of light usage it can last a day or even two deopending on how you config. & the radio you use.
The +or- 6-8 hours is with wifi, BT, 3g data usage, gps, etc...
I make it about half the day(5-6 hours), but I've got AgileMobile running all day using 3G connection so I'm assuming I'm running normally. This is greatly improved by switching off 3G(adds another 2-3 hours). I put maybe 15-30 minutes of calls on my phone a day, it's mostly a mobile web browser and instant messenger.
To get through a full day for me I charge the phone in my jeep while driving to / from work, and most days I eat lunch out so I charge it then as well.
Thanks for the replies. I will probably have all data connections turned off, and won't run GPS on days like that.
I really dig this phone, I just got a little worried about the chance that I won't go home after some heavy drinking and won't have a phone to use in the morning...
Also, I just read on a website review from Laptopmag.com that said "We left a fully charged Tilt on over a long weekend, and when we returned, the unit still had three out of four bars of battery life"... What do you think?
Well I think if you upgrade to wm6.1, you should gt alot better battery life.
I was sick (in bed most of the day) yesterday so I took my phone off charge at about 7am in the morning.
I sent some messages, surfed the internet with hsdpa for about 3 hours (and this is in a bad signal area, which means more battery consumption)
then did some wifi (20mins)
and a bluetooth recieve or two.
I just checked the battery level this morning (8am) and I still had 57% left. I was abit surprised because I thought it will have drained by now like it did with wm6. The point is wm6.1 has a lot better battery life. So for maxumum battery life you should upgrade.
Just my 2 cents
Battery life...
Hi I have had the kaiser for not long really... there's a neat program that tells you what is the drain, of the battery...
well if you are not touching it and not doing anything it drains about 6-10ma, so based on that yes, it can last for a looooooooong time, now when you call it goes to 200-400ma, so yes it drains more battery there. ( as you would think it would )
then again you can have the backlight to low, to use less battery, also, turn the screen off when not using it, and change the radio an a lot of hacks.
based on my experience using EDGE, the GPS, the screen, playing a game, sending some mms, and talking, it can really kill your battery in no time.
but you can also well get a car charger ( be carefull with those ) or a better battery, because to be realistic the one that comes default really sucks...
I have seen people talking about a 3000mah battery so that could really drive the phone for a loooooooong time, better think about other issues, like how sucky the camera is... ( maybe with the video drivers we are wating for this will get fixed ), also well, sometimes the performance is not that good, ( also video drivers I think ), besides that, and if you don't mind like I do, to have to wait for a few seconds to get things going on, the phone is a real jewel, if you live life in the fast lane, well maybe that second to open the keyboard will kill you

thanks

Seidio 1650 battery and the Mugen 1500 batteries seem to be good oem size batteries from I have read. THere is a thread on the Kaiser Accessories board about batteries.......
I had a similar experience with excessive current consumption in standby, likely caused by the GPS though it is off (see Post "TyTN II / Kaiser issue: GPS & battery drain").
Perhaps you should install "BatteryStatus". Make yourself familiar with the battery current display, and try to figure out how much power your device draws.
Another nice test is, switch all units off (phone, WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS, really everything). Make sure no program is running (TaskManager). Leave the fully charged phone alone for 5 hours or so. Recheck the battery capacity whether it dropped more than very few percent. If you do not need GPS frequently, you may simply try a soft reset. If you have interesting results, please be so kind and add them to the abovementioned thread, too.

Battery Life Comments

Well I am mildly disappointed at the battery life of this phone. With full "phone curiosity" mode turned on I am getting maybe 3/4 of a day worth of charge. As I get more familiar with the phone and some of the novelty wears off, I am hoping to get maybe 2 days? Anybody at that point yet to comment?
-Chris
yes, the battery is very inconsistant. sometimes it lasts over a day sometimes not even a 1/2 day. There are several forums that have posts about this. I am not sure whether its a set of dud batteries or something else.
had mine for 2+ weeks now, and my battery life is consistent, to where it really depends on my usage. 2-3 hours of talk time, Activesync constantly running with my Exchange server, i will usually get around 16-18 hours.
Now, granted, during the day, i will run various applications during the day, such as a Twitter client, browser, facebook, etc etc etc, and no huge variances in battery life
I agree, very inconsistant for me as well. Seems like most times is about 12-16 hours.
I can usually get away with a charge every 2 days with moderate talk time, push email, RSSHub updating every hour, facebook integration with contacts, weather, etc, etc.
One thing you guys might want to try if you haven't already - hook up the Wi-Fi. I previously had a Motorola Q with comparable services running and it would barely make it through the day. I honestly think the lack of Wi-Fi was its demise because I live in a stone house and get very poor reception.
So anyway, give the Wi-Fi a try and see if that works.
the choice is features or battery life. the nicer a phone, the lower the battery life. the lesser the phone, the better the battery life. a car charger should resolve most peoples battery issues with any phone.
or in a terrible case, call verizon say your battery is awful. they will send you one complimentary battery. now you have two, for free! keep one fully charged and change them out as needed.
My battery life is just fine... long full days @ work with constant txting, calls, vibrate on, data, etc... I did install cabs to stop push internet and reduce RAM consumption but nothing else.
I truly love this phone. It is the absolute best I have ever had.
I don't know, sometime I found Imagio drains more than it should be (My ram is around 48% free all the time with the help of HTC Ram clean). Somewhere near 100% (fully charged), it can fast down to 96 or 97 and sometime I saw figure jump continiously from 92 then 91 then 90.

Here is the "push internet" cab:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
I installed it, took me to 48% on reboot but the phone quickly jumped to 80% again in no time. The only thing I really keep open is Google Maps.
I've turned of automatic weather updates, rss hub only updates every 8 hrs, etc... If I don't leave any data hogging apps open in the background, I can get through an entire day with moderate use.
I called Customer Service today. The guy told me that because I have an Exchange Account setup that 6 hours on a battery falls within the specs.
Maybe off topic a bit, but does anyone else have a problem with their phones not storing "Last Full charge" info?

Battery Life.. My dad is complaining constantly.

So my dad was complaining about his battery life, how it only lasts 3 hours. We got him a replacement and he's still complaining. I do not use WP7 phones. I'm more of android and really never explored the WP7 world. Is there any advice you can give?
What he does on the phone,
He calls people often, Spends time on the phone. Email. Low amount of texting, I'm trying to explain to him that for one he has it set to auto brightness which doesnt help and that with the screen size he has doesn't really help the matter in days usage. Also he's always connected to WiFi (not sure if that helps, but with android it does)
I disabled location, Auto Sync, set brightness to medium and he's complain he barely gets 3 hours out of the damn phone. I told him he needs a bigger battery. From what I've seen as far as Battery size at stock for the HD7 it's like 1100, which seems rather low. I told him I'd get him a much bigger battery which would help.
Your thoughts? greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you check his email/s sync settings? If he has multiple accounts that sync every 15mins, that can drain battery pretty quickly. If he is on wifi all the time, then disable 3G. Make sure apps don't run in the background. Make sure he closes out every application. And yes, and extended battery will help. And just for a little fun, this hasn't been proven, but having a black wallpaper may improve battery life.
Personally, my HD7S will last 2 days. I have brightness on low, manually sync email accounts. I have wifi on and play music all day. Is he running mango?
My HD7 lasts 2-3 days, depending on use. There is obviously something wrong with your dad's battery, firmware or something.
this happened with me too.
I just turned off "show open wifi networks".
It vastly improved battery life.
I don't remember doing anything else.
Let us know if that solves the issue.
Jeff
Rogue Apps from the market can cause battery drain.
I had one such and it made the battery die in less then 5 hours.
I did a hard reset just to be sure and then all was well and made sure I did not install that app ( cant remember which one it was , but it was a receipe one)
ALso if you are away from wifi its best to turn it off as otherwise it will keep scanning for wifi all the time hence draining the battery.
Generally the HTC battery is weak mine dosen't last more than 8 hours with normal use
+1 on the advice here
I can get a full day (7am to 11pm) from my HD7 without constantly having to turn on / off Wifi. I would typically have emails set to check every half hour, including weather etc. I make a few calls and send a good number of texts, run a few apps etc. If the battery is under pressure at some point I'll just turn off Wifi. If I'm travelling abroad and I don't want to Roam, I will turn off data naturally but I will also turn off 3G to save extra battery.
If I want to squeeze another hour or two out of the battery when I'm away from a charger I will turn the battery saver on. Automatic brightness should be fine as well; no need to set it to the dimmest setting all day.
The biggest battery killer is if you have your email set to check constantly; set it to 15 or 30 minutes and you will get an amazing improvement in battery life.
I should also mention that my HD7 is just over a year old, so I ordered a new battery for it recently which has definitely helped. New batteries are quite cheap and make a big difference. It's also handy to have the old battery in the bag just in case of emergency.
Pick up an Anker 1350mah replacement battery. I bought one and gained about 15-25% better life depending on usuage. I have 3 push email accounts, FB, Twitter, and Link'din all synced. I get between 5-9 hours of heavy use. 1+ day on the weekend when it's not getting bombarded with work calls and email.
If he can reduce the refresh rate on emails, this will extend the battery greatly. Good luck.
Dies the setting as items arrive under email account drain the battery?

Sorry for hyjacking this thread but I have issues too with the low battery duration of my HD7.
Tried the email advice with no luck, when I put it in before I head to bed and take it out in the morning (around 7am) it doesn't even last till after till after dinner (around 6PM), during which I haven't even done much due to not having time as I'm in class.
But then I read this "hard reset" which I've just done but what is the best thing to do, performing a Hard Reset and
- restoring to the last saved point (which was a few days back due to the 7740 Tethering update)
or
- updating the phone and installing every single app manually again?
Havent found info about this anywhere on the forums, everyone just says "hard reset" but after that there are still 2 options to consider
Thanks.

I did the same, the Anker battery is good. With e-mail updates hourly (not push as I can sync as I need) and medium voice use, I'm getting 36 hours from a charge.

3600mAh 3.7V eBay Battery (BH39100)

I will be charging it overnight (I sat the battery in the phone for the pics but have not used or charged it yet) and I will let you guys know how it goes
It cost US$12 with free postage
Already I can tell you that the larger back plate is flimsy and will probably unclip 50 times a day, I have ordered several soft cases for the phone and I intend to cut one to fit the new battery hump, that soft case should stop the flimsy case from sliding up. It's also a finger print magnet, but so is the rest of the phone so meh.
Anyway, enjoy the photo's and let me know if you would like some more info.
If anyone is interested in the inside of it, I am happy to pry it open for science.

I will let you know how long it lasts when I charge it up tonight, and let it run, do you have a preferred battery monitor you would like me to collect statistics from?
UPDATE: **** it, I popped it in and managed to get it up to 100 percent at work in 1 go, I have reset my batt stats and we shall see how long she lasts I'm syncing 2 gmail accounts in push, 1 exchange account in push and my facebook and twitter accounts and leaving wifi and bt on even though bt I only use in the car for a2dp and wifi I use when I am in range of home... so it should be searching all day long
Well I'm up to 17 hours and I'm at 57% battery... going from 7PM Australian-DST when I pulled it off the charger after the first charge to what is now 12:24PM , I've kept syncing exchange and gmail, and got about 30 sms messages, made a few calls, used gps for 10 minutes with google maps in car turn by turn, rebooted into recovery and ran a backup, took a few minutes of video footage, drove for around 2 hours using A2DP to stream music to my car using PowerAmp as the player.
So Far the big ones are
44% display
15% cell standby
12% wifi
8% phone idle
6% google maps
4% android OS
4%voice calls
2% PowerAmp
2% com.htc.bgp
2% ADW.Launcher
1% Bluetooth
It seems better than the original battery, usually I charge it in the car when I use GPS and A2DP but I wanted to avoid chargers until I deplete the battery for this test, it doesnt seem to have hammered the batter as much as I thought it would of.
I am in a 3G area, there is no LTE available here yet.
Looks promising. Thank you for posting. I may have to try one.
At about 3pm, the battery percentage started plummeting quickly, its 6pm now and I'm at 8%, I haven't done anything special its just been sitting ticking over some emails and sms's coming in, haven't made any calls or anything, so the dramatic drop in battery is kinda indicating to me that its just a **** battery, I do not forsee much more battery time out of this than the standard battery, infact it might even be worse by the end.
so 50% of the battery lasted 20 hours, and then 42% of the batter left in 3... bleh
okay ran completely flat at 7:24
so thats like 24 hours, I dont know if that is good or not
It's not terribly unusual for a battery to underperform for the first few charge cycles. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet.
My Raider didn't make it through the first few days (understandable for the first day, though, since I was constantly playing with it), but now I regularly find it has 30-50% left 16-18 hours after unplugging it, depending on usage.
fair enough, I'm taking it through a few power cycles over the week and I'll report my results

Personally I think the phone looks ugly to begin with lol... I find the Galaxy S2 or even the nexus prettier, but I love the holiday for its technical specifications, if I wanted a fashion accessory, I'd get an iphone... or a bracelet.
Have gone a few days with this, the phone feels too thin when it has the normal battery pack on it now... I find I miss the hump on the back, I also like the feel of the smooth glossy finish against my palm as opposed to the standard metal backing... of course if my phone covers EVER get here from the land of ebay (aka Shangzen, China) this will of course change again
The look of the hump on the back has actually really grown on me, and when its on its back on a table its now much easier to pick it up without it slipping in your fingers as you can get your fingers right under it before you lift it.
I did some testing with that batt a while back.. about 8 hours of netflix w/ wifi, bluetooth on.
I like not having to change the battery every day. Though I have to make a case work also.
battery is working pretty well for me, I'm going to do a full test and see what I can get out of it again now I have worn the battery in.
FYI - I'm getting a big jump in time on the stock battery after flashing - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22480315&postcount=167
Well, this run I got 1 day 20 hours out of it im guessing cause the last 24 wont last long, which I am impressed by, however the phone does not appear to really register the battery level properly it still spends forever in the top 50 percent ie 1 day 17 hours for the first 50 then it blasts through the last 50 percent in a few hours.
yea.. I reported that a while ago. Mine stays at 100% for half the day then starts dropping.. once to about 15% it will go quick. haha I cant see to get apps to really show the right info.
These batta are suppose to have a chip in it.. but I dont know how it all works with the apps.
My basic impression with the battery is , YES, it does last longer, however it's impossible to tell how much charge you have left as the phone cannot tell properly how full the battery is
hi.. where do i get that circle battery theme? thanks
to get that, you need to have a rooted phone, I used
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
you pull some files out of your phone (they are different for each rom, so if I gave you mine, they would just break your phone) and upload them to this site, make the changes you want (ie the circle battery indicator) and then this website cooks it into a recovery ZIP file, put that file on your /sdcard directory, reboot intop recovery and flash the zip onto your phone, clear your cache, clear your dalvik cache, then reboot, done
let me know if you need more help, basically before you can do this you need to follow the suerguide and have your phone at least rooted and have recovery installed. This is the only way to really change that icon, you can install an app from the market that will give you second battery meter, but yeah it looks crap
I use an app called "Screen Filter" to turn down the screen brightness whenever I'm indoors. This saves my battery tremendously. I see your VIVID Display also kills your battery. I'm getting over 24hrs on the stock battery with the screen brightness set to 50% with the app, but I have autosync and push turned off for all programs. I make a few calls and text about 10-20 times per day. I check facebook and gmail about once every couple of hours. This is pretty stellar with the stock battery. Oh ya, I have the SafPWR Fusion2 but only use it only when taking business trips. It's only 1800mAh but it gets me another day of power.
I'm very tempted to get your battery pack especially since it's so cheap! I'm sure the performance will improve over a few more weeks of use. 2 days of usage with full autosync and exchange sync is pretty impressive!

HOW are you guys getting more then 10/12 hours on this watch?

Granted, I'm only on day 4.. but still..
I've tried disabling LTE, simple watch-face, etc.. but can't get it to live for more then 12 hours without needing a recharge..
Do those of you reaching more then 12 hours use an always on screen? Gestures?
I did do a test overnight and it only dropped 20% (7 hours) - but my typical drop rate is much higher then that with casual use..

ps - I'm on-track for 12 hours again today, and that's with only having received ~3-4 email notifications which I just quickly dismissed in the past two hours so far..

I just put mine on charge after 48 hrs with 3% left that is with screen always on off and only turning WiFi on when needed.I'm using mine tethered to my g6 without lte.
Firstly in my case I don't use LTE.
I've found having WiFi and gps switch on has made very little difference to battery life, as it's tethered anyway for this information.
I think the battery life has got better after a couple of weeks usage, and typically a full day has plenty left, nearly 50% on occasions.
Yesterday was a long day, and it managed 20 hours straight through
I usually get around 24 hours. But barely 24 hours (if I do anything except let my watch run idle on my wrist whole day, I don't hit the mark).
Screen always ON
NO SIM (doesn't even work in europe)
Always tethered to the phone
Tilt OFF
Gestures OFF
Location MIXED (decided to experiment a bit, seen no discernible difference in battery drain whether it was ON or OFF)
Watchface: Portions with 4 complications
First couple of hours is sleep tracking with screen turned off (but constant HRM sensor activity), which consumes slightly less than regular operation.
Today I turned always screen off and holy **** what a difference. After 12 hours I'm still at 80%. So the clear culprit of this is the screen. I think I will try to get used to this, it was wasting energy 99% of the time before anyway (I'm not looking it at it all the time).
I end up getting through the day at about 30 to 50% with everything on except for LTE which I toggle on and off during the rare occasions I need it. I usually use brightness 6 during the evening and 8 during the day, I find the auto-brightness too dim on every occasion. On the other hand I've had a few random days where it rapidly used it's battery and I was down to power saving in the afternoon. Havne't figured out what is happening when it occurs but when it happens my phone also rapidly drains. Other than that I wish I could increase the screen on time, it sometimes dims before I've done what I want to do and I feel like I have enough spare bat to burn a little more keeping it on longer.
My Answer, you don't. I leave everything on and charge it, like 3 times a day. I'm lucky because I have two others to swap to during charge, but I even bought a second charger for work when I do not have those available.
I simply do not want to reduce any features of the watch, so I charge it often. That's just what it is if you ask me, you're not going to miraculously get this thing working for 2 days, simple as that. So use it big, and charge it often!

Is there a faster way to toggle cellular on and off other than going into settings?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Not that I know of and for me it's a double downer, when I use the watch standalone I don't need bluetooth. I menu dive to switch both and then revert when I'm done. The radios should be available from the pull down quick settings IMO, it would be enough to have an icon there to open them all and you could toggle those you need from there. Considering the wasted space on that pull down it becomes a bit of a what were they thinking issue...

You need to pair with phone initially. It also makes it easier to copy your accounts over to the watch. After you set it up, you don't need your phone anymore BUT if you keep it on cellular the watch isn't going to last.

From my time with the watch it appears that having cellular on has little impact on battery life as long as you're within range of your phone. The part that does affect battery life with cellular on is IF you're in an area with just complete sucky cell signal to start off with. (IE my workplace) that will kill battery.
I had battery draining issues at work even with cellular off at work but I figured out that although on my phone when connected to work wifi I can get to the play store on my phone but on my watch it can't get to the playstore or communicate with google. My assumption is the watch is draining because the google play services can't connect/sync with google therefore causing it to stay awake and drain. Watch battery life has been much better when I disable wifi on my phone BUT now my phone drains a little faster because it's not on wifi.
Bluetooth Autoconnect app has been a lifesaver when having watch/phone/BT headset/BT car connected. You can set up profiles and priorities so that the car/headset/headphones take over the call duties so you can hear phone calls through those devices instead of the watch.
I'm still getting used to life having to sift through the menus to disable and enable radios but you're right. There needs to be an easier and faster way.
