Unfortunately there's an unforgivable flaw in the design. The case blocks the speakers. Most of the speaker grill has a cutout. But the part at the top where the speaker actually is isn't cutout and it blocked by the part of the case that holds the tablet in place muffling the sound by roughly 50%.
It really sucks because the case is good quality. it's very good besides this issue. I'm really honestly surprised it wasn't noticed in testing.
I'd avoid this case. I'm sending this one back.

That's why I ordered the Ultra Slim Fit instead of the Slim Fit Folio. It should ship by the end of this week.
How long did it take for you to get it? From the day you placed the order to the day you got it? I ask because I ordered mine on the 4th of December, and I am yet to receive a tracking number. I want to see if I will be able to ship it back before I go out of town and won't be able to.

I received my case today. I'm no audiophile, but the speaker being slightly covered didn't bother me at all. We were able to watch some YouTube videos without maxing the volume and it sounded fine. $8.99 was a steal

I personally just don't see the reason to cover the speakers. It was not necessary to the design of the case. I will get the frameless case because I personally notice a big difference in fidelity. Having speakers pointing straight at you with no obstructions is always going to sound a lot better than with something covering the speaker grill and redirecting the sound away from you. The case that doesn't block the speakers is like $13 on amazon so even if you're not an audiophile I would suggest going that route anyway.

This case showed up yesterday - perfect for my needs. I use the tablet in landscape mode 95% of the time.
The tabs grip the tablet tightly, and don't cover any buttons or speakers. It closes flat, and the sleep/wake-up works perfectly.
Today I got this sleeve in the mail:
The N10 in the above case fits in the sleeve perfectly - a tiny bit snug sliding it in and out, but that will loosen up over time. The tablet pocket is zippered, the small pocket is zippered and the larger pocket has a velcro close. Small pocket is perfect to keep chargers, OTG cables, etc. Very pleased.

The pics on Amazon seem to indicate that this, the Poetic HardBack, the Bluerex Ultra Slim and the i-Blason Slim look almost exactly the same.
Does the fastener hook directly to the tablet as with my i-Blason? Also, does the case fold back flat or 99% flat? Just trying to figure out if either this or the Poetic are significantly better than the i-Blason, which I find OK but not perfect.

I have the Poetic version and have a heck of a time getting the bottom two tabs to fit on the bottom corners of the N10. It keeps slipping out.
Extremely tight fit trying to get it on. Even the magnetic tab is hard to get closed and open.

I don't know if the supcase is the same as the poetic, but mine doesn't have either of those problems. The bottom two tabs are tight enough to hold the corners but the bottom come out with relative ease. The clasp is the same - tight enough to hold it shut but not hard to open.
Can you bend the tabs a bit to make them work just right?

Same problem. I receieved my sup case FINALLY after about 20 days after ordering it on Amazon and both bottom 2 tabs keep slipping out of position. This is a great case but obviously wasn't designed flawlessly, this could get annoying quick, having to constantly reposition the bottom tabs every time I open the case.....

I've been reading through the various case threads and many folks, myself included, want a case that specifically supports portrait mode. There are quite a few on Amazon that do this, either by rotating or with velcro. I've used this search (http://www.amazon.com/s/?url=search-alias=electronics&field-keywords=+nexus+7+case+portrait) to turn up quite a few.
Opinions? Links to other sites/cases?
I also want a case that will primarily be in portrait. I can tell you from experience that the one that says Exact (TM) 360 degree Rotary Leather case for Google Nexus 7 Android Tablet by Asus

I'm looking forward to your review, extra brutal or not. I'd really like to find one that doesn't add a lot of bulk. And, TBH, I don't care a lot if it can act as a stand in landscape mode or not -- it just adds bulk. And before anyone asks, no, I don't watch a lot of videos

Hey guys, they shipped and it arrived a day earlier than expected. I will definitely be buying from BSCstore again. Here's my Amazon review:
I can't believe this is only $15. I know it's fake leather and that is part of the low price but the construction seems solid. I'd give it 5 stars right out of the gate but I am waiting to see how well it wears over the next few months. Now that my N7 is covered I will be bringing it everywhere. But based on price and initial value this case is a home run.
It should provide protection if dropped or stuffed into a backpack.
The lining is soft and smooth.
As a stand it provides 3 positions in landscape and and 1 in portrait.
It feels good and secure in my hand.
The "clips" that hold the N7 do not cover the bezel, and therefore the good looks of the device, at all.
As described, all the ports and speaker are open.
Again, the construction is surprisingly good.
The swivel is smooth.
It looks good, like it should have cost a little more.
It does have a few drawbacks. None that were problematic for me but probably for others. I'll nit pick for them.
The case definitely adds bulk to the N7. The fabric ridges that hold it up for viewing add a lot so if you want that feature expect added bulk from any case that does it.
The fake leather is pretty stiff and I suspect it will crease or not wear well (just a guess).
The stylus holder isn't shown in the pictures. It is on the front and some might not find it attractive.
No clasp.
There is a cheap elastic strap inside which I guess could be used as a hand strap. I think it can be better used to keep the case closed when you stuff it in a backpack. It isn't good at this job but there isn't any other option if you want to keep it tightly closed.
Tiny complaint - when it's holding the N7 in portrait it sits at about a 45 degree angle. Not ideal for me as the viewing angle isn't great for seeing it across the kitchen to see the recipes.
I'll update in a few months when I know if it will wear well. But honestly, for $15 I'd be happy to get 6 months out of it.
Thanks for the review. I'm not crazy about adding that much bulk to a small, light device but it might be a good addition for protection, particularly if you're traveling. And $15 is a great price!
I'm still looking for a case for daily use that will let me view the tablet in portrait mode. Honestly, I don't see why more people aren't looking for these. It doesn't seem like it would be difficult to build -- just make a case that opens like a steno notebook (i.e. from the TOP instead of the SIDE) and you don't have to get into the whole rotate thing. I'd spend $15-$30 for a case like that.
Can't you get on that opens like a book and flip the cover almost all the way back to do the same thing?
I was thinking of just buying the OEM case and modding it to have smart functionality myself.
My idea was to buy some magnetic sheeting such as that found here and stick it to the inside of the front cover. Hopefully that would be enough to both keep the cover from flapping about, and also activate the magnetic sensor.
Has anyone experimented with this? Got any tips or suggestions?
PS. If anyone lives in Melbourne, Australia and can let me know where I can find a grey OEM case I'd be extremely appreciative.
I thought the official case had the magnet for the smart on/off already?

Not to my knowledge. Although I'm baffled as to why it doesn't.
The trick would be to get a magnet which is not too strong or too weak. I modded a Kindle fire case with a small rare earth magnet which worked fine but also switched the N7 off when folding the cover to the back. I don't think any magnet is going to keep the front flap closed though, there's nothing for the magnet to cling to on the N7.
Hmmm. That's interesting. I just assumed that there would be enough metal in the device to hold on to. I guess the iPad has a metal back, so the smart cover would be attracted to that. I'm searching around for a case, and if/when I get a chance to try the I'll report back here.

What sort of magnets did you use?
As for my favourite phone, the 3315 is just a classic. I'll never forget the time I gave my new 3315 to a random guy I found on the internet so that he could swap out the green LEDs for blue ones. I was 14.

I modified my N7 case into a smart cover. Took quite a bit of experimentation and had to chop one of my magnets into quarters but eventually I got it working reliably without issues when the cover was closed or opened and folded back. To make the magnet flush inside of the case I melted a dent into the inside flap right where the sensor is located, which worked well.
The one additional thing did to make it completely reliable was stuck a flat bead to the outside of my cover to give about an eighth of an inch of clearance right where the magnet is mounted. It is flat enough that I don't notice it when my N7 is in use but provides enough buffer that I no longer have an accidental activations of the sensor with the cover folded behind the Nexus.

Yup! It feels really good. It looks like it's a real leather(maybe not but it feels like it).
I just got mine today. It feels very good. My only serious objection is that if I hold it vertically in one hand, using the elastic strap, the cover flops awkwardly, making it hard to hold. I haven't figured out what to do about that.... Change that: if I use the closing elastic to stabilize the cover, it feels fine.

I love my poetic case for my nexus 7, will try this one. Poetic is a great company, they sent me an upgrade after they realized a mistake in the 1st and 2nsd generation case.
I might get one of these for my nexus 7 and nexus 10, ordered one for my nexus 4 which is not here and neither is my nexus 4.
I just got mine as well. It fits beautifully and actually looks nice as well. They paid attention to details on this one. I'm so glad I can stop using my old transformer TF101 case now!

Mine came yesterday. For the $5.00 w/ free shipping I paid, I can't complain too much (and its miles better than having no case at all). But its not quite what I wanted.
Its a bit too thick. Its noticeably thicker than the casecrown case I had for my last tablet (probably due to the pouches and that weird textured base thing in the narrow section of the cover flap (what the hell is that for?)
Also, while the upright stand position works well, the other stand position is a bit too low an angle for my taste, and its a bit awkward getting it in to that position and getting it to stay that way. I found that I can put a folded up playing card in it to get the angle where I want it, bit this just makes it even more awkward to set up.
What I really want is a case just like I had on my previous tablet (see attached image). Notice the middle stand position in the lower left corner of that pic. That's by far, the position I use the most. And getting it into that position is very quick and easy. Unfortunately, none of the "tri-fold" style cases seem to support that position any more. They're all missing the tab on the back that keeps the flap from sliding out of place.
I got this Poetic, I don't think its the same one, but I am VERY pleased with it, and it only cost $10, worth every penny. And if you have Amazon Prime it got here < 24 hours after I ordered it for only $4 extra shipping lol...The case is actually nicely made, the viewing angles that are available for this case are great (I study quite a bit and have used it for some long term viewing) I would recommend it.

I'm waiting for the Poetic Slimline one to come out. Basically is a feather style thin case with smart cover. I have one for my Nexus 7 and absolutely love it.
Just got my Slimbook in today. Seems pretty nice for the $4.95 that I spent on it. It can stand it up for watching videos on my desk and it has an auto wake/sleep feature. That is all I wanted + having the leather feel.
I went through the customer's review of the slimline version and I was quite suprise about the quality of the product.
Anyone can confirm or denied those review?
Just purchased and received the Poetic Slimline case for the Nook HD. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-SLIMLI...804667&sr=8-2&keywords=nook+hd+7"+poetic+case
Currently the case is just $6.95 with free shipping. Current as of 2/13/2013
The case has has a plastic base that clips on over the body of the Nook HD. This helps to make the fit very snug while adding very little to the depth of the device. There are cut outs for the volume rocker, headphone jack and for the power button. The bottom of the case is left mostly open for access to the micro sdcard, proprietary port and the LED light hole. There are also two holes for the speakers on the back.
The plastic case is covered with a faux leather type material. This allows for a relatively tacky area so the device will not slip out of your hand. This material also covers the front of the device protecting the screen of the Nook HD. On the inside of the front cover is a soft velvet like material that is nice and soft preventing scratches on the screen. The front cover can also be tri-folded behind the device to act as a stand for the tablet. This occurs in landscape mode allowing for a decent angle to watch movies or other videos. It does not provide any support in the portrait mode though so it will not help with reading books.
The front cover clicks in to place with the back plastic via magnets. This helps to secure the cover so that it does not flop open. It also provides for a way to turn your Nook HD on and off when opening or closing the case. This is a great feature that will actually bypass the normal lock screen so that when you finish opening the case your device is on and ready to go. However, if you enable the password lock screen then you will still need to unlock and then type in your code.
This case comes with a 3 year warranty from Poetic which is very unusual for cases but is a great feature to have.
One con I found in this device after its arrival was that there were some threads coming out from between the two material types on the front cover of the case. This were easily clipped to make things look better but it does take away from the idea of the case being of top quality. My only other concern is how well the materials will hold up while using the front cover as a stand. If used very frequently it could lead to cracking of the front cover. However, I will only be able to tell that over time and not for the day that I have had the case so far.
So far I am very impressed with the Poetic Slimline case for the Nook HD. I recommend anyone looking for a nice slim case to pick one up.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
Some more pictures in post # 4.

Looks really good. Thanks for the pics!
I liked the ceiling design and lighting
This looks great. Exactly what i have been looking for on HD+. this is avilable also for HD+ at $8.95.
Poetic likes to throw out introductory prices and then increase it once it gets popular, so i would order now it you want one, even if it is not available for another 1-2 weeks, for the prices may increase by then.

Better that than me in the picture.
Did i forgot mention you?!? I know why ... I just dont like any case on mob/tab and etc devices. Only acceptable are film skins which ones give a sense of the real item.
Questions: I had a Poetic portfolio case, had one dumb thing, pen holder on the back surface. Is there one on this? Also, I like to be able to stand it up in portrait mode for reading, but I think this one only stands in landscape, right?
Thanks

There is nothing on the back. So no worries there.
This case is not designed for portrait use. It might stand straight up in portrait but it won't be very stable and there is no way to change the angle.

Far and away the best commercial case I've had for a tablet flavored device. And half the cost of the nearest competitor in the
'decent case' catetory, and that one was for a 5" Samsung media player.
I get the impression that these are from a maker who also makes iPad cases and uses many of the same materials. The front has three
longitudinal strips of material - but the third is narrower than the first two. I'll compare it to a smart cover tomorrow - my memory is
that that cover has three bands of equal-breadth material on the front
The fit in the rear is good as delivered, but may start to loosen up over time, and doesn't have a cutout to match the grommet
in the corner. I may add a cutout (I have a grommet setter for fabric) and then use a shoelace or similar to fasten down the back
on that side. That could also get me a loop for a stylus, which would be useful to me. The fit across the front is a little too
long and a little too wide, which will annoy me over time or I may get used to it.
The cover activates the wake from sleep in CM10. The device sleeps itself after a minute by default, which is fine with me.
All in all, 8 out of 10.

I knew prices would go up. It is now $19 for hd+ and $17 for HD. Those who got in at intro price got themselves a great case (myself included). It is exactly what i have been loking for.

Glad I got it when I did then.
As long as you're OK with black, those are still at 8.95.

i think i got the last 8.95 one as after i ordered, the price jumped to 12.95. maybe it's back down now, haven't checked.
anyway after about a week of use, i like the case for the price but have some minor quibbles. the case is a bit creased/folded on the edges when it shipped, so it doesn't perfectly conform to the shape of the HD+. maybe over time it will smooth out.
the stand notch is not very solid and i've had it slip when i'm moving around, not sure if that's standard for case stands. also the "hand strap" is kind of hard to pull out, but i mostly use it in landscape mode so not a big deal.
like i said not a big deal especially for the price, but not a perfect case.

I think we're talking different covers here. I thnk your cover is the "Poetic slimbook", not the "Slimline". Still good to hear you views on it!

Thanks for the tip. Now $15 for the black HD+ one on Amazon. Still a decent price :cyclops:
Anyone has a hint how to order Poetic to a Europe country other than UK at a low price?
I can order at amazon.co.uk for 20GBP + 6GBP shipping (= 40 USD) which seems a bit high compared to 6 GBP price on UK Ebay (but from where I can't get it shipped to Slovenia).
Just picked up my Second gen Nexus 7 and I'm sure quite a few more of you will be picking one up soon as well. So, I wanted to start this thread so anyone with info on cases available for the me models can share it, and we can keep track of them in one place. So far I've only seen the official sleeve in the Google Play store, but I'm assuming it won't be available until the 30th or later.
Created this thread on mobile, I'll make it nicer later when on my computer.
If anyone has any info on upcoming cases for the new Nexus 7, or even any cases meant for other devices that still fit this tablet well, please share! Thanks!
There are a few on Amazon that show 8/15 availability.
Got my 2nd gen today too and really need a case so thanks for starting this thread!

I require a case that works in both landscape and portrait mode. I have tried a few cases. The only one available that I like is the Solo case. They make a 360 degree 7" case and a landscape only universal case. The case comes in two colors; gray and black. I prefer the gray case. It is a little large and thick but it holds the device without blocking any buttons. It is the best rotating case I have found. It is much better than the smaller M-Edge case which I returned.

I have the Moko slim smart case for my Nexus 7 2013 and I love it. Can't beat $7 on amazon.com for a solid smart case that has a ha d strap, works in both landscape/portrait modes, and has the smart feature built in. Just my two cents

This is a great pouch for our Nexus 7 and it's what I use. Anyway it's on sale until the 16th but you'll have to act fast if you want it since only seven are available

I've recently bought this cover, which is pretty nice. The headphone input and side buttons of the device are covered up by the elastic straps holding it in, but it's a minor inconvenience to me. There is also this version that I'd considered, but felt the Seal would catch on everything.
It came in the mail quite quick too. Just in time for the 50th special.

Really love the old-style bike with the disproportionate back wheel and the Joel Peter Witkin baby skeleton with two heads!
