[Q] Nexus S Dock

The only dock I could find on internet was this and it's available for preorder and looks great IMO. Anyone ordered from this company before?

Are you looking at the same website? They do worldwide free shipping so there is no 'plus shipping'. Also 27$ or 17£ for a desktop cradle is very reasonable.

Yeah, $31 for the one with a second battery charger, with free shipping is still almost half what I paid for a Nexus One dock from Google (though the N1 dock had more features (bluetooth speakers)).

With the huge tacky logo on the front of it, it looks like a $5 item....

at least it's something, doesn't look like an OEM dock is coming out at all

I wonder how long before this becomes actually available for shipment. I'm okay with the price, just not with the waiting.

I was told by the seller that the dock will be shipping in the middle of march this year.

It looks awesome I just wish it had headset throughput.
Ideally, I'd like to use this on my nightstand and I usually listen to TuneIn Radio when I go to bed. This will block that. Bummer.

I have mixed feelings about listening to music over Bluetooth. On one hand, as a person who finds a lot of wireless accessories pretty stupid, headphones are one thing I definitely think can benefit from going cordless. On the other, sound quality over Bluetooth just isn't as good as in wired headphones, even to a decidedly non-audiophile such as myself. Also, I find the range of Bluetooth doesn't really allow for as much freedom of movement as I would wish in some cases, and every stereo headset I've tried is extremely sensitive to motion (such as when running with your phone in your pocket) and/or obstruction (such as turning your head to look at something in such a way as to place your body mass between the phone and the headset receiver). In either case, the playback stutters quite a bit.
My feeling is that Bluetooth technology isn't quite where it needs to be for music playback yet. Unless you're in a situation where you really need/want them, I think most people are still better off with wired headphones. Give it a year or two for quality to go up and prices to go down and it might be a different story.

I use http://the-gadgeteer.com/2007/07/12/altec_lansing_t515_wireless_speaker_headset_system/ (just the headset part.. speaker is crap) with a sennheiser earphone and the audio quality is excellent and the range is not bad either. I get about 10 meters without much trouble.

Well, 10 meters is the range of bluetooth.
I use a Jabra BT3030. Good thing about it is I can plug in any earphone I want and if I prefer to use a larger speaker, I can just plug that too.

The Innodock Jr for the Desire/Nexus One works perfectly for the Nexus S and it leaves a lot of room for you to add a case and still be able to use the dock.

I'm happy for you, but not everyone wants to pay $200+ for headphones.

Seems to work excellently with my car stereo. The data throughput of Bluetooth is more than enough to handle music.

My earphones are CX95 which I bought for about £60 (I also use other Sennheiser models which are about £15-£30) so I am not sure how you got 200+
The bluetooth headset itself was £15.

Logitech Boombox Speaker review

In the posted review he says the boom box has 8 drivers... it only has 4... two woofers and two tweeters mounted front facing
The remaining 4 are unpowered passive radiators that aid the woofers in achieving a bigger box sound.
Three very distinct volume levels:
Plugged in (max power... very loud)
Charged battery (less power... very noticeable difference)
Low battery (bummer unless your in a quiet room)
I've had this boom box for about a year now and it is the bomb... if you position it right ... on a bookshelf or boxed in area in a corner etc... the bass response is completely unbelievable for a device this size... I find I absolutely have to use an eq app to get the decent tweeter sound that I like or it sounds dull with the nexus 7 stock audio... the Volume+ app is the best for making the Logitech sound incredible.
We go to the park and there's a pavilion with a cooking area so I stick it up on the boxed in shelf area and I have a motorcycle sized sealed battery with an adapter to plug into the boom box for full 20 watts of volume... I CONSTANTLY have to prove to people that that little box is the only thing producing the sound... no hidden subwoofer... no secret speakers... it really is amazing in the right situations

One thing worth mentioning is when you use it to watch videos, there is a lag between the video and the sound. So thos is only good for listening to music umless if there is an app that can delay the video or sync the audio and video, but I havemt dound one yet.

Strange... I don't have that problem at all... and all I do is video on my 7... I don't even have any music files only music video
Seems synced up just fine on mine

I use a different bluetooth speaker but I also saw the sound out of sync with the standard video player. When I swapped to MX Player pro the problem went away. You may want to try a couple of different video players to see if any solve the problem.

Also i didn't mention but others have reported higher quality sounds connecting with the 3.5mm jack due to better bandwidth

That's true on the 3.5mm jack... but it kills the whole advantage of having that cool Bluetooth factor...
Nice to have the options on there to work it the way that satisfies the user... great product

Yes, the big criticism of BT music streaming is the sound quality, I understand these things aren't for audiophiles! What are your thoughts on the quality? Do you notice any artefacts / distortion that you wouldn't expect (I guess it depends on the quality of your digital source)?
I hooked my N7 up to my iPod dock which also allows BT streaming and have to say it sounded OK to me - but the dock is hardly anything special, just a hundred quid bog standard sound system and CDs don't sound all that (when compared to the HiFi).
I have purchased a BT to HiFi adapted (also by logitech) for the living room system so look forward to hearing what it sounds like through a 'proper' amp / speakers. Given that I'll be playing MP3s over BT I'm pretty confident it won't be CD quality, but I'm not too fussy! Mostly I'm playing kids music in the hope it keeps my toddle amused for 2 seconds or I'm playing streamed radio which has already gone round the houses in terms of compression so one doesn't expect HiFi quality.
Will report back on my own experiences when my new box of tricks turns up.

I have Logitech boombox for 2 days and it really is amazing, but on SGS3 they interrupt web radio

I have a Logitech "Mini Boombox" that works nice in the office. Hooks up via bluetooth to the Nexus 7.

People claim they are awesome. I own a pair and do not think they are that great. Nothing, IMO, beats a pair of over the ear headphones. $100 bucks is pricey too for a pair of earbuds. The quality seems to be quite low, too. I replaced them twice before buying a pair of headphones.

I'm using Audio Technica ATH-CKM500 based on rave reviews from Head-Fi... They sound great no issues.

I have them and I love em. They sound better than any other earbuds ive owned.

I have the image s4's. I would say they are fairly average in that range. Etymotics have better fidelity but less bass.
The sound profile of these changes completely once you get a set of comply foam tips on them. Seal is better, bass is punchier, mids and highs aren't as grating and they fit my ears a lot more comfortably.

I use my GR07 MK2 (neutral) almost exclusively, but my partner owns a pair of ckm500 and they're very "fun" & easy to drive. A little too "boomy" and no where near quick enough for me, but keep in mind this is coming from someone who enjoys quick precise BA/ BA like dynamic iems
Edit: I'd also throw Yamaha's EPH-100 into the mix. They can be had for ~$100, but their difficult to find.

In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) can most certainly be worth the price, plenty of professional musicians using them onstage quite happily. For great info on headphones check a musician or audiophile source, I like head-fi.org, here's a buying guide they keep updated:

When I decided to get a nice pair of over-the ear headphones I took my ipod to Guitar Center and started taking headphones out of boxes and trying them out. A musician-based store will understand needing to audition the gear, and I ended up spending $150 on a pair of KKRs that I love, which I use with my Viewsonic Gtab. I routinely hear things in songs I've never heard before with this setup.
There's another thread in this forum about using external USB Digital-Analogue Converters (DACs) with the HDMI port to get even better sound, but then you start running into the quality of your files, lossy(mp3) vs lossless(flac), etc.
FWIW At work I love my cheap Sony plugs, surprisingly nice sound for under $20.

I've looked at JAYS but not so sure about brand. When I really just want to listen to music, I use my custom fit pair of UE.

I use a pair of Sony XBA-2vp. Dual balanced armature IEMs with mic control for Android. Volume control is through an analog slider though.
IIRC it got decent reviews on Head Fi. Although if there was a XBA-3 with Android controls, I would have probably bought that instead.

A little confused with your question because you listed 4 pairs of wired earbuds that supposed to have high quality sound but in terms of compatibility catered toward iPhone with an extra remote functionality. I'm not 100% sure with each since I just briefly looked up their spec, but they offer a basic mic with call button to pick up/end the call, and probably play/pause the music/video. But if you want a true multimedia compatibility you probably better off with a cheapo Samsung headphones, although it's hard to find genuine since even Amazon is filled with $5 knockoffs and their sound quality is sub-par. If you are after sound quality and full Android compatibility, check out review of JayBird Blue Buds X I posted earlier (link in my signature). Those are wireless bluetooth and fully compatible with Note 2, although if you prefer wired one that can be used with any audio device or on a plane, you probably better off with wired solution.

As you were told, the list you provided isn't that compatible with Android and Note II in specific.
You can check out Etymotic that have good earphones and are compatible with Android devices.
Personally, I use Superdarts by Atomic Floyd and am very happy with them (but they're not for anyone) in terms of sound quality and mic quality (which really surprised me).

Wow, so you have $1,200 pair of earbuds and $4,800 pair of headphones, and I would guess that tube headphone amp cost thousands of dollars as well?!? And you don't consider yourself audiophiles? I just consider you a VERY rich person who has a good taste in best gadgets
With cars, I know you are not a car racer. You just have your Maserati and Porsche as daily beaters

The Note produces great sound, and to complement that I'm using the Logitech Ultimate Ears 350vm. It's a nice pair of earphones with a strong bass, plus the controls on the earphones work too. Very, very comfortable and the length of the wires is long enough to be comfortable around you.

For $1300, I'd rather buy the Shure SE535 LTD(which is still considered as the best IEM among audiophiles) + its Android compatible cable or even a pair of custom JH or UE.
I haven't listen to the K3003I yet, but from what I've read on Headfi and HeadRoom, the K3003I is really overpriced.

Just ordered Etymotic HF2; given the rave reviews i dug up online, i am suprised no body here has them!

If you want a better sound quality and more bass, go for B&W C5. If you care more about neutral sound with better comfort and noise isolation - MIE2. I can't speak for C5, since I only reviewed their P3 and P7 headphones (per my link in sig), but I heard a mixed opinion about the comfort of their fitment with that adjustable wire loop. If you wear your in-ear headphones for an extended period of time, I would suggest MIE2.
Also, take a look into Shure SE215, those go for about $99 and have removable cable. Have decent sound isolation, comfy fit, and warmer sound signature toward bass. Typically, cables break and you have to through away your headphones. With removable cables, you just get another set for $20.

I came back to the creative ep630s. Nothing beats them, in the price to performance ratio.

Samsung HS330

So after watching a couple of GS4 unboxing videos, I've become pretty interested in the included earphones which, as far as I've read, will be available separately for around $30.
Now I'm far from an audiophile but I would still like some decent earphones to use. I was planning to buy myself a pair of these but since the HS330s have volume control on the in-line remote, I thought they might be better.
Since real-world testing is somewhat out of the question at this point, based on specs alone, which of the two do you guys think should have better sound quality?

I was wondering the same thing after reading this review. What got me was this: They offer better bass than just about any other pair of headphones you can find in a smartphone's retail package, although they probably won't fully replace any high-end aftermarket earphones, if you happen to have those. I was looking for something new so that I could retire my current headphones. So I collected an S4 for my mom today and tested out the earphones.
I was not impressed at all. I don't know what bass they are talking about. The max volume from them is also quite low.
To be fair, all the earphones that come with the phones I get normally stay in the box untouched. So I can't say how they fared against other headsets which come in the retail packaging.
I have a 10yr old pair of Sony MDR-EX70LP Fontopia Headphones which even went through a wash cycle and they totally blew the HS330s out of the water in every sound aspect. (I am not an audiophile, so I can't go into lots of detail, but they are much louder, have much deeper and louder bass and are clear and crisp. All the other sounds are there too and sound just as good. )
I don't know if this a an apples to apples comparison, but take it as my 2c.

This is really helpful. Thanks a lot. Even though I know I can get better, I'm actually content with the earphones that came with my Note 2. So if the S4 ones are at least as good as that, I'll probably buy them still. But if they're actually a downgrade then screw that, haha.

I have a pair of Zagg Headphones that came free with my screen protector that work better then anything else I have had. But speaking on headphones, my wife's iphone5 headphones are pretty nice I must say.

Btw, the Sony MH1C would be a better buy, since it's one of the best earphones you can buy that has functioning buttons for Android devices.
