Cracked my screen with my thumb - Nexus 7 General

I was picking up my N7 off the night stand and it slipped out of my hands. I grabbed the n7 with my right hand with my thumb on the bottom right corner of the screen and my other 4 fingers bracing the back of the device. I thought I save my self from a horrible drop. Until I saw the cracked going across the bottom of screen across the navigation bar. I must have pressed too hard with my thump when I caught the device. Now my navigation bottoms go crazy. The device is useless. Anywhere I can purchase a replacement lcd + digitizer for a decent price? Or am I better off buying a new tablet.

Thank you. I am definitely going to call Google. It should have not cracked like that.

They should come up with glasses that reads our thoughts and when paired with a tablet it just does what you think....within perspective, lol!
They are probably already on it....no need to worry about touching the tab as much, lol!
Then again I would worry about my glasses, such is life in these fickle times....

First hard drop...

So i just dropped my phone from head height onto a concrete floor
It slipped out of my hand while i was talking as i bumped into someone.
.
.
.
.
It survived! no marks, i'm not sure how it landed, but it was screen down on the floor when i found it.
Has anyone else dropped theirs and how has it managed? I'm sure we'd all like to know how much abuse it actually can handle.
same happens here...
and it dropped exactly the same way as yours did..haah
just like yours, no scratch and yet nth bad happened yet
Would have been even funnier if u were the one i bumped into lol
I think the cut off corners on the back really help. The back is heavier due to the battery and if it falls on a corner it seems to fall on the back cut off corner.
What a nightmare
i had 2 accidents. one of them "bent" the soft aluminum in the corner. still black and still working. the second one was so powerful that dissembled my diamond in 3 pieces: diamond (lol), cover and battery. i found the battery 2 meters from the disaster scene. this PDA seems to be a sturdy SOB..
any way, don't try this at home folks!!!1

Nice to know it can survive a few knocks! It must have been one of those oh **** moments. Did the guy actually stop to apologise, I would have probably thumped him one, not that i advocate physically attacking someone LOL
So was it rough concrete, like paving stones, or something smooth like a tilled floor?
I sat in a recliner chair outside the other day and lay back. My diamond slipped out of my pocket onto a concrete floor from about a height of 30-40cm. There's now a small (very small) dent in the aluminium bit, bottom right, near the stylus slot.
It's hardly noticable, but I was gutted at the time!

lol, it was my fault actually.. i was to busy talking on the phone and not paying atention. It was a smooth concrete floor thankfully!
not a diamond but...
Twice now I've had accidents with my Polaris on the running machine. The phone was resting in the slot on the machine while I was running. I must have knocked the headphone cable or something because the phone got yanked from the slot, dropped (about chest height) onto the treadmill and went flying back into the wall behind. Not even a scratch!
OUCH!!
<10 chars>
dropped mine from waist height....
my waist is probably higher than most of your ears lol JOKE lol again but anyways I got a little tiny scratch on the stylus....I guess thats why they give you 2 of those puppies....I love it. You know its a little heavier than most pdas from the metal frame but yes its a tough SOB and also I heard that the screen is made of some kind of really special plexiglass to prevent cracks. I heard you can drop it from a two story building and the glass will not crack!!! I would definately not try this at home but its what I heard....
I dropped it on the way back from the pub!!
The metal bezel now has three deep lines in it on the front side under the hardware buttons Fortunatly its still black
The top of the bezel on the front also has 3 scartches which have exposed the silver metal underneath.
what a disaster!
You remember that James Bond Movie with the evil guy having Diamonds in his face?
Well, my device slipped out of my hands , glided a meter or 2 on the parking ground and has now similar small dots (diamonds) on the lower part and casing.
But no worries, I gonna let "tune" paint & polish my Diamond.
They ask 150 NTD (5US) for refurbushing a PDA phone here
You guys gave me the creeeepssss.
Hmm i thought it was just me at first, but i've been checking all day, and my touch screen has become ALOT more sensative since the drop.
I actually had a phone call and while trying to fumble to pick up the call i dropped the phone. When i picked it up the touchscreen wouldnt work. After a reboot it was fine again. Now the lightest touch registers on the screen. Very wierd, but the scartches almost seem worth it to have it working so well.
I hope it doesnt die on my now :s

Anyone with dust under the screen?

Seems like a few people on Android Forums are having this issue. Anyone else noticing dust under their screens, especially after keeping the phone in your pocket for a while? Evidently, for those that have the issue, it's noticeable under bright light.
My phone should be in my hands tomorrow or Friday, but obviously I won't stand for dust under the screen. That's something I'd expect with a Razr (which mine suffered from back in the day)... my G1 never had this problem.
HTC SVP c500 (on orange UK) aka HTC Typhoon had the infamous dust problem too.
I have quite a few specs of dust under the glass on the lower left of my screen. May gave to contact Google to see what the replacement policy is.
Grrrr
god I hope this doesnt become a wide spread issue!!! I have no dust under my screen thus far... and I hope it stays that way.
I also have dust under my screen. I called HTC yesterday and they told me that i can exchange it for a new one within the 14 days, but I'll lose my engraving (kinda lame.)
hopefully the next one doesnt have the same problem. Would be nice if there was a way to clean it.

You're better off finding out if it's an issue as early as possible. As soon as I get my phone, I'll be keeping it in my pocket when not in use (though that may be a very limited time). If it gets dust, it's going back.
I keep the phone in it's little case it comes with inside my pocket, takes an extra second to get out but it's only temporary until some companies come out with some sweet cases.

But that won't tell you if the seal around your screen (or wherever the dust is entering from) is defective or not. That's why I suggested "trying" to get dust in early, by keeping it in your pocket at times. If it doesn't get dust, then you're fine.
I don't want to test this out... as soon as my full-body screen protector gets here, it's going on the phone and staying there. No dust for my phone!
i just realized that one corner of my screen makes a clicking sound when i apply pressure to it (bottom right corner). Upon closer inspection i realized the clicking was the screen adhesive not sticking down. I can see the corner of the screen moving verrry slightly under pressure (probably .005" worth of movement) This is also the corner most of the dust is accumulating. It looks like the adhesive they use to hold the glass down is at fault. Hopefully this isnt widespread.
Calling HTC now to demand my exchange! If you have dust under your screen try pushing on the corners.

Just got off the phone with an HTC rep. They set up a "swap" so I'll get my new phone before I have to ship my old one back. Unfortunatly I'll be losing my engraving... oh well.
The rep told me this problem is "known" and they are taking corrective actions.
My phone is being delivered tomorrow. I'm wondering if I should refuse the package and wait until HTC's 'corrective actions' have been applied before I reorder.

It's known... of course. Yeah, the engraving is a small price to pay, especially considering you can get it engraved on your own if you want, albeit for a few bucks.
So the first thing to do when you get the phone is to press down on the edges and superglue the **** out of it XD

Thanks for raising awareness of the issue to us all.
This has been a pretty rampant issue on many of HTC's latest smartphones. My N1 will hopefully arrive sometime this year, they're taking their time shipping it out, but if this is the case, it's going back.

Indeed it has. One would assume they actually thought about this, proofed the production process/adhesive/whatever, and at least tested some phones before hitting the markets. Oh well, guess they don't.

Warning D3 users: screen will scratch if you look at it wrong

I've seen a few other posts on a few other boards about the D3 having a VERY scratchable screen. Normally, I tell people that modern screen are durable as nails, but tonight, I got bit. My D3 now has a nice "pinhole" indentation in the screen. In the damaged area, surrounding the new scratch, you can feel that there is a RAISED area of some material. Its obvious that this screen has some kind of coating on it that can be easily damaged. It is definitely NOT a single piece of glass. My OG Droid got pummeled for a year and a half. Its screen is MINT. My new D3 is now damaged on it's 9th day.
<rant on>
Now that Moto is making phones with no removable battery (D4), is making easily scratchable pentile screens (D3), and pulls this bootloader cr*p, I think this will be my last one. Googarolla, I hope you are listening.

Seriously. You sound like a cry baby. I don't care if a phone has a diamond coated protection layer, ill still slap on at the very least a 5 dollar no name screen protector. Infact I even cut a screen protector to size to cover the camera lens. Why? Because I don't take the chance. Obviously something YOU did scratched the screen. Its not the phones fault or motorolas fault. Time to put the big boy pants on, accept some responsibility, and realize it was something you did.
End.

I really don't think he's crying about it, he's making a valid point. If a phone from 2 years ago has better scratch resistance, I think that's a problem too. Technology is supposed to improve as time goes on, not be cheaply mass-produced with low quality materials. Should he have put a screen protector on it, probably, but why would he assume he'd need to if an old model lasted 2 years without a scratch?
Chill out.
I thought it was determined that the screen had a anti-glare covering that was the culprit of the micro-scratches, not the gorilla glass?
TLR Buy a screen protector, I got one for $5 off eBay with a car charger.
I teared when my OG Droid got a scratch a month before replacing it with the D3. So I slapped a screen protector on my D3 and now I'm happy.
Honestly, thinking that anything is unscratchable sounds more like a "User Error ID:10T" problem. The Gorilla glass on the Droid 3 doesn't seem as strong as the OG Droid because people wanted anti-glare.
Technology is improving, some users on the other hand aren't.

Last weekend some friends and I were having a "fun and chill" experience, when I decided to get out of their car and go wait in mine with a girl. Then we got an idea of sneaking up to their car and using the LED of my phone to imitate the brightass spotlight on police cars. And so while holding my phone in her hand, the girl crawled across the parking garage to the other car.

My ex girlfriend managed to scratch my gift, a Rado watch (which is one of the hardest thing on the earth) after three days of use.
So I guess is not too hard to scratch a piece of gorilla glass too.
Btw gorilla glass or not the Droid 3 bezel is way more delicate than the one of my old Milestone 1.
I had the latter for a whole year and all the phone (toy keyboard excluded) looked like new after such amount of time, the D3 already feels "used" after a month.
Wow, is the D4 really not going to have a removable battery..? What sort of iPhone-ish ******ry is THAT?? I really, really hope that's not true, because any smart-phone that can't take an upgraded battery is not worth having. Screw 8-10 hours of battery life, that's pathetic.
But on topic, my screen is still fine as well.

Looks like that most of the Apple competitors are doing their best to copy the idiotic Apple's moves (lack of keyboard, locks everywhere, microsims, fixed batteries, and so on) but at the same time are managing to avoid the good ones like the extended OS support, or the focus on a few models instead of producing a plethora of (often pointless) models.
I have had my phone for a couple months and it is mint.

on the non-removable batt, when your phone freezes up and the power button isnt working BECAUSE your phone is froze, which you then need a battery pull, how would one go about restarting the phone?

you used to could alt-shift-del to reboot, but it doesn't work on the D3. even if it did work, there was that .001% chance that you really would need to remove the battery, to which you would obviously need a pin reset.
not sure why they dumped the alt-shift-del reboot. i greatly miss it.

Back Glass Cracked around speaker

I went out tonight to a movie. I put my phone in my pocket when I left the house, took it out once to put it on vibrate at the start of the movie then took it out of my pocket again when I got home. The phone was the only thing in that pocket, so it's not like it was up against my keys or anything.
The phone was intact when I put it on vibrate so while it was in my pocket at some point during the movie or the ride home is when it got cracked.
It seems that the part of the glass that's cut out for the loud speaker got pushed in enough that the glass around it gave way and shattered. I don't remember bumping it on anything or it being jostled in any way, just a typical movie and drive home...
I have insurance on it through Tmobile but I may try and call LG directly first to see if they will do anything considering I didn't drop it or really abuse it in any way that I can think of...
So let this be a warning to you if you have one, be careful about that part of the phone. Maybe be careful to put it facing screen-side-out in your pocket so the back speaker cut out can't be bumped...
The glass around the speaker grill is entirely shattered with cracks spider webbing from it to all 4 corners of the screen. The cracks going to the top are hard to see in the pictures, but their there.
Anyone have any comments or suggestions about contacting LG, or anything else about it?

I was babying this phone as much as possible, it was the only thing in that pocket and I made sure not to use it when over cement or anything in case it did fall.
But this happened while it was INSIDE my pocket, I even had to empty some of the glass shards out of my pocket when I noticed what had happened...

Haha, no skinny jeans, and it was in my front left pocket.
There was no stress at all that I can think of. When I took it out of my pocket at home to text someone the back felt rough and I thought something was on it, but when i turned it around to look I saw it all cracked. I was 100% surprised to see that considering how I had babied it all night and I didn't even use it the entire night.
There was no case because none are sold yet. When I bought it the store said they would be getting the cases (bumpers I guess) in stock next week, I was going to call them Monday to see if they had any yet, and I still will but I don't expect them to get any until mid week.

Back pocket? Were you sitting on it?
OK am just not buying the km magic scratches happening on their own or a big crack happening without it being CX caused. These things do not happen on their own..
It looks just like it got sat on, what else could push the speaker through to crack it like that..

Front pocket, and no sitting on my side, just in a movie theater seat then my car seat.
I wish I could just "not buy" it too, but it happened....
Like I said in my first post, it looks like a typical crack you would get from tempered glass when the stress point is hit, and it looks like around that speaker cut out is a stress point. The thing is, it wasn't hit, bumped, dropped, or anything else like that.
If you were the insurance company or LG I would understand not trusting me, but why do I have to gain by not telling the truth here?
Chances are you can just exchange it under warranty, not insurance.
You must have had very tight pants on man..

maybe it got stressed when it was up against the seat, like the side or something. just a guess. or maybe someone else hit it by accident without you knowing in the theatre? or you yourself did unknowingly? it is dark in there...
I was gonna go naked and the the phone shine I'm 2nd guessing that now

I told everyone in my other post that the glass is BS because it got scratched by itself, just being in the pocket and on the table... But almost everyone laughed at my warning...

Screen lifting on Rog 2

Greeting all! I've had my Asus Rog 2 for a little over a month I'd say. I have the proper Republic of Gamers version. I've noticed on the left side, where the attachment port is. An amount of flex in the screen along the seal. It's probably only a millimetre or so. But it flexes up and down when pressed, seeable from a side on view. The other side where the volume and power buttons are does not that this flex. There is also a light difference to sound when tapping that side of the phone while typing. Which I can only put down to the slight screen compressing on the left. I'm not sure how I can to notice it. Some people have said it might be an intentional aspect of the phone to give a small amount of flex/shock absorption but I can't find anything online mentioning it. I'm more leaning towards it being a fault in my phone. It's not once been dropped always been in a case. So yeah. Anyone able to shed light on this?

Finally. Someone with class and crazy sharp senses. I myself have severe OCD. I used to be very verbal about this kind of stuff on the AC forums xD. But on XDA i toned myself down.
First of all. Asus has crap for Quality Control. I had 2 ROGPHONE 2s with different power button height. And in between the lcd and bezel i could see glue. But okay nevermind.
As for the screen lifting near the accessory port, i do not seem to have it. Did you happen to sit on it? Or put the phone in the back pocket? Remembering that this is a tall phone.

Nope! I don't even take the phone to work with me. I swap to my previous phone.
I'm pretty sure it's a fault. It hasn't caused any issues apart from some annoyance to my OCD. As long as it doesn't worsen it's not something I can't live with.

It will worsen. You should get it replaced. Im sure it will eventually become wider from the flexing. Btw do you use the accessory port often? And do you have a tempered glass applied?

I wouldn't have a clue how. I'm in Australia and I purchased the phone via eBay.
I've used the accessory port once, just to check it out. Used the fan for maybe 15 minutes. Other than that I've never removed the piece of rubber there.
And yes, I have a tempered glass protector applied.

Yeah, it's 100% the screen. You can see the black edge of the screen move up and down from the dark drownish side of the phone. I'll just have to keep an eye on it I suppose. Bit annoying though. Pay almost $1,700 for one of the best phones on the market thinking you're going to get something issue free. Ha.

In Indonesia. Samsung has the best QC. I only had 1 issue with Samsung. Which was dust under the S7 Edge screen. But other than that they're very good. But Asus Indonesia is a joke. Its like we get a refurbished phone. I bought 2 rogphone 2s and each had their own defect. First had glue in between the screen and bezel, and my current unit has different volume/power button height.

Which is why I didn't want to buy the Tencent version. Plus it wouldn't work here correctly without getting into the firmware. I just figured I'd spend the money. Get the good one that'll have no issues. I asked the seller if they had warranty which the answer was no. They referred me to a few companies that do insurance on phones.
I've never bought a real expensive phone before, and my previous phone was 4 or 5 years old. It was an S5.
So it is annoying. But other than that I don't have any complaints about it.

Or you could use it until it shows signs of damage defect. Or bring it to an authorized repair shop. Im guessing lack of glue.

Lack of glue probably is the issue. I might see if there are any places around that can do it. Doubtful there would be around me. Best luck is probably Sydney. Which is a few hours away.

If you like DIY stuff. Try using LOCO glue. They helped me seal my Note 8 when it had cracks.

You seriously dont know how comfortable your comment has made me after reading it. I have always had this habit of checking my belongings (from my phone to my own body and muscles) to make absolutely sure there isnt a single even slighgest problem with it and guess what, there always is something to notice for me!
One of the reasons why I had never opted for an oled phone knowing I will notice the burn-ins one day when there isnt any other person who notices them.
Now I finally decided to go for this phone with the assumption that asus knows how to make gaming stuff, but now I can see several issues already, from the obvious red tint to the screen having lots of bandings and horizontal lines on lower brightness on gray color.
Now I can also feel the volume buttons not needing the same pressure and of of them being softer and also the rgb light on the back being poorly so when the light turns on there are some dots around it that also light up(i know that its only a white paper behind the back glass so if there are any print issues they will also light up)
Althought I dont have any serious issues(yet), im definitely not buying another phone from asus or any other not that famous brands for that matter. My last device was a sony x compact which I had for 3 years from when it came out and I still regret selling it, it was so damn perfect.
Btw, thanks for lettin me know that there is a disorder named OCD, I dont know why I hadnt searched about it already.

Hi, well thats quite a positive feedback. I had quite a backlash at AC forums. I've had people say that I'm making AC look like a Mental Issue Forum and some user even boasted how happy his credit card is if he buys a new phone when the old 1 is damaged.(credit card lol) Btw, i wouldn't say its a disorder. Different people have different standards. For me the Mercedes Benz S Klasse might be perfect, but for you it might not be.
And my OCD is definitely worse than yours. My phone can only be touched by me, and me myself dont touch the physical buttons(I'm afraid that it will be damaged).
And never feel alone about something. There will always be somebody out there having the same issue but not posting on the forums xD.

Not a fan of DIY.
So I stopped by a phone repair should this Arvo. The guy said to him it looks as though the battery is swelling. He said thats the side the battery is on so that is the most likely reason for it. He asked if the battery life was alright still.
Hard for me to really notice. I only use the phone on weekends and in the afternoons while home. I generally only charge it every second day, and I unplug the charger once it's at 100%. He said it isn't serious at the moment but if I notice battery charge fading fast, or if it swells a lot more to bring it back and he'll be able to put a new one in.
Just my ****ing luck to get shoddy battery, if that's the issue.

No they didn't. But it's their job so I'd say they can make a pretty fair guess.
I might go back there Monday, as I need my phone this weekend. On Monday I'll go back and tell them to do what needs to be done to fix it.
The battery is on the opposit side from the vent that would be on the left side of the vent, didnt you say that the problem was on the left side of your screen meaning its on the right side of the back??!

Yeah trust me the customer services' first guess is battery swell which basicly doesnt happen soon unless you are always charging your phone while playing and overnight and draining it to the last percentage. But is can happen as a result of physical impact or damage, and when it happens you will most probably notice the shortened battery life so I would say it's not a battery problem unless of course proven otherwise.
