[Q]JB Recovery TWRP/CWM philz freeze and reboot - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have problem with recovery mode, I cant install any zip file, its always freeze and sometimes reboot and bootloop.
My step:
Install from GB PREROOT SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar using ODIN (using GB ROM to avoid brick bug)
Then instal JB TW base XXLSA/LSC (like AllianceROM, RocketROM, Ultimate ROM) still no problem
BUT after installed JB TW base, i cant change my ROM to another JB TW base because always freeze in installing zip file, i dont know why.
someone can help me?

[Q] Bricked - Stock ROM works, custom ROMs not

Hello XDA
Again I need your help!
My Note is bricked (I think), because it always stuck @DATA.IMG or @DATAFS. So I found the way with the patched pit file. Whatever I'm able to flash ROM's with patched PIT and ODIN.
So I flashed a 3-part GB with custom PIT -> Worked
Than I flashed 1-part ICS without custom PIT -> Works (I did many reboots until "Install Applications" went away)
CF-Root + CWM for that ROM (LQ3) -> Works
But then when I try to flash a Custom ROM (I'd like to have Rocket ROM) with AbyssKernel (Which I flashed in CWM) the ROM flashes, everything OK. But when I try to boot, sometimes it's stuck @N7000 Logo or it boots and stucks @SAMSUNG Logo or sometimes the ROM even loads but hangs everytime or reboots all the time (Totaly unusable). But all that only with CUSTOM ROM.
Why I'm able to use the stock ROM's but the CUSTOM ROM's (Like Rocket ROM) aren't usable? Any help? :/
Thanks in advance!
Any suggestions? :/ Thanks!
If stock roms work then custom roms should also work. Still the procedures to install custom rom may differ from one rom to another. And sometime a certain rom may not work for you. Should try one or few more other customs and it should work.
cheers,
Hii check your internal storage if it is around 8 gb, as you said you bricked then flashed with patched pit, then you wont be able to flash big custom roms, try for small custom roms or rather Asylum or PA rom or if you want TW roms look for rom which is under 400 MB.
from abyss kernel, do data/cache/dalvik wipe and reinstall your custom rom again.

[Q] Is there a way to debug stuck on boot problems?

I recently tried to flash my GN from ICS Stock ROM to CM9 ROM. I did the following:
- boot to CWM
- wipe the system
- flashed the new ROM
- installed GApps
- reboot
I tried it both with h0tw1r3-UCLE3-CM9-RC0 and Thor 0.12f ROMs and always got stuck on boot screen. The Samsung start screen appears and then only black. I flashed back the Stock ROM with CWM restore and now the phone works again as before, but I still would like to try a custom ROM.
The question is, is there a common way to debug this kind of problems? I guess I could spend some to look into it, but the system does not come up, so I don't even know where to start.
If you have adb setup you could use adb logcat to get in depth details of what happening when booting ( attempting to boot )
But i see your problem is because you flashed a CM9 over ICS, you MUST revert to GB before flashing any CM based ROMs.
Grab yourself a ODIN flashable GB ROM and flash it !
Then continue the above steps
EDIT: Prerooted GB ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
once installed, Flash a custom kernel like abyss and then wipe and then install ROM + Gapps.
DO NOT WIPE ON THE STOCK ICS KERNEL !

Because of the brick bug? Yes, I know.
One step further - but still not working
Okay, I tried what you suggested:
- flash pre-rooted GB ROM
- messy procedure with adb to get cwm recovery onto GB system
- flashed thor kernel
- wipe (factory reset)
- flashed new ROM with cwm (tried both thor or hotwore CM9)
- flashed gapps with cwm
- reboot
- running adb logcat while booting
The system still doesn't come up, but I got bootlogs from adb.
There are several errors, including missing files and a segfault. But to me nothing very enlightening, nothing that tells me why it happens. I attached the logs, maybe someone with more experience can make sense out of those and tell me what's wrong?

Criskelo's ICS 10.1 instalation guide

hi there, can someone guide me how to install criskelo ics 10.1 rom, i use to flash rocketrom before, so i think i got some skill on flashing custom rom...but itried to flash criskelo 9.1 last week n the result my note got hard brick, cant turn to download mode or recovery mode... luckily, i still got waranty on my note and sent it to SS n get new board as replacement...so can some one guide me the safest way to flash this rom...now im on stock ics 4.0.3 rom n rooted...
CRISKELO IS A VERY GOOD ROM BUT TRY WAIT A LITLE MORE TIME GET BETTER IN HIS VERSION ICS BECAUSE I AND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS , THE SAME WAY YOU INSTALL ROKET YOU INSTALL CRISKELO,
BUT IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE THIS IS THE STEPS
FROM THE ORIGINAL GB
ROOT YOUR PHONE WHIT CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5
THEN INSTALL ABISS KERNEL REDPILL GO TO ADVANCE AND REBOOT RECOVERY
WIPE DATA, CACHE,DAVLICK CACHE
AND INSTALL THE CRISKELO ROM
BUT TO ME IN THIS WAY THE ROM CONTINUE TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS:
SUPERSU ASKING FOR PERMISS FOR ALL APPS
BATTERY PERCENT NOT SHOW CORECTLY
IN THE OTHER HAND CRISKELO VERSION 7 IS A ROM WHITOUT ANY PROBLEM VERY RECOMMNDED:good:
so which rom is best for now
If I were you, I would:
1. Download abyss kernel (this is a gb kernel so it should be safe)
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.zip
2. Install abyss from cwm (don't do any wipes)
3. Still in cwm, go to advance and reboot cwm
4. Do the three wipes (cahe, dalvik and factory)
5. Install criskelo's rom
It should be done.
That's how I installed,
I'm using criskelo's rom with glnotecore kernel and everything works fine.

[Q] JB to GB downgrade failure?

So, this is what happened. I first upgraded to the latest official JB 4.1.2 XXLSA firmware. I noticed that it still wasn't as fast as I'd like, and wanted to try a custom ROM instead. I read through the guides in here and get that I have to downgrade to a GB ROM first in order for me not to hardbrick my phone. So, I download "N7000XBKK4 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXXKK5--------------------- Nordic countries" from that list over stock ROM's in the Q&A root guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 . I follow the flashing guide to the letter, puts my phone in download mode, runs the flash via Odin, the phone restarts, and everything goes south. Basically this happens: When I start my phone it get's to the point in the GB initial startup where I'm to touch the Android to start, but then all it does is throw messages at me about this service and that service having stopped responding, untill the phone reboots. So now I have reflashed back to the JB ROM.
So basically, what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to make a proper downgrade so I can get rooted, install CWM and get down and get it on with some custom ROM's?
Thx in advance!
Same happened with me. I flashed GB and was getting force close messages. But not a big problem. Just flash GB rom again. And after flashing just delete all user data from recovery and reboot. U wont get those messages any more.

You always need to WIPE data / factory reset after downgrading from JB .. GB is safe to go ahead.. if you choose ICS then first flash a safe kernel and then do wipe
It seems to me that KK5 is non wipe, which explains why you got those messages. The rest is detailed in nokiamodeln91's message BTW, JB is still not official for our Notes. What you installed was a leak with a safe kernel (if it was Philz).

Exactly.
I had this issue too when downgrading to GB. Wipe Cache and Dalvik and you should be ok from then on.
Wow. A lot of replies in just a single day. You guys are awesome
Now you say that the KK5 is non-wipe. Are there any GB-roms which are wipe, so to speak? Or do I have to do the flash to GB, enter recovery, wipe cache partition and do wipe/factory reset, then reboot into a now working phone, set up for root with USB and so forth, root and install CWM, copy the custom ROM to my SD-card (gonna go for ParanoidAndroid) as well as Google services if I want those, and then install them via CWM/Mobile Odin?

GB LC1 is wipe. But if you want PA (which is an excellent choice) just flash a CM10 kernel in your recovery (if your recovery is safe, like GB for example). Then follow Utacka's instructions for the installation.
But if I want CWM I should do root and install CWM there? And then flash the custom ROM from CWM?

The CM10 kernel comes with its own recovery where you can flash from. If you have root issues, just flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip. In any case don't flash from stock ICS with CMW.zip: if you are on ICS and not rooted flash the relevant Philz kernel (which is safe and will give you root and CWM) then the CM10 kernel.
Edit: what ROM do you have now?
I use the 4.1.2 XXLSA ROM
Btw, anyone knows where I can download the Google Services Framework so I can install it alongside Paranoid Android? I have been led to believe it's not included as per default
Thx for all the replies!!
If you have downloaded the xxlsa rom then it's inside the rom zip file. Path system/app/GoogleServicesFramework

Bootloop on custom ROMs; stock ROM OK

Hi all!
I flashed my recovery to TWRP and ever since then, I always get stuck in bootloop no matter what custom ROM I try. Flashing back to stock rom via ODIN works.
It's been a while since I've tinkered with custom ROMs so I may be missing something. Any ideas on where to start?

Hi,
Which phone ? i9305 or i9300 ?
Which version of TWRP do you use ?
You should try latest version of TWRP (2.8.7.3).
Or try Philz touch Recovery 6.48.4 or 6.59.
1.Repeat ODIN step to stock rom
2.Root the phone by kingroot (as it's doesn't required pc)
3.After rooting, Download Cwm rom manager
4.Install Cwm by selecting your phone model and etc
5.flash it directly from the apps
6.now you can flash any rom ( please backup your system for your safety)
