Anyone know if any third party launchers will work on the Fire HD 8.9? Like Nova, Apex, or Go...just wondering at this point. Haven't got mine yet!
many people use third party launchers.
the thing is that we got lost root after firmware update from amazon.

And so far, i have Go Launcher HD working great.
Chameleon, ADW and APEX not working yet, force closing, but may be something i've not configured correctly.
EVERY launcher I've tried so far worked, it's just important to make sure that there are no spaces in the filename when you put the file into the system folder I've noticed that by taking a close look at the launchers, which used to crash immediately, and got them working by removing the space in the filename.
I personally prefer using adw launcher 1.3.3.8.

Yes all launchers I downloaded from the play store so have worked. You just need to convert it to a system app. The short of it: move apk from /data/app/ folder to /system/app/ folder, then reboot

Looks like Fede is about to go neck and neck with ADW Ex in the eye-candy department. Installed and now I have BOTH smoothness/performance AND nifty screen transitions.
been a big fan of LPP
I agree. I'm addicted to lpp Widgets. They are a leaner, more well designed version of what sense should have been if HTC placed function over gaudiness.

Loving the cube transition. If you keep high quality imaging it looks very cool. On a side note, running cm7 with LPP I don't notice any performance decrease turning on all animations and what not. Still super smooth and fast.

really? I cant get the LPP Widget for People working, there is no LPP Widget for Weather
and no LPP Widget for Exchange Email ! DOH!
Launcher Pro slow for me
Maybe it's just my Aria, but LP seems much slower than ADW built into ROM.
Any ideas why?
Lpp refers to launcher pro plus. The awesomeness is only available in the paid or otherwise pirated full version. But due to just how great it is, I would pay for it so the dev can continue his hard work.

Definitely worth paying for. It was the first app I bought. Its far ahead of the standard adw. I also purchased adw ex, which is also worth the money. But if you had to choose just one to pay for I would def say Launcherpro plus.

Looks pretty good even in the free version, but just 3 home screens is not enough. If there is one thing to like about the Sense it is the 5 home screens. Is there any way get LP (or most other Android launchers for that matter) to go to 5 home screens?
The paid version allows up to 7 homescreens and 3 docks.
Press menu on homescreen click prefetences
Signatures are fancy.
Does the installation of Launcher Pro Plus remove ADW or can they coexist?
I saw a thread somewhere about using a switcher app to go between multiple launchers but I can't seem to find it.
Thanks

You can have both. Only one is active at a time though. There is an app on the market called home switcher that allows you choose a default launcher and still be able to change launchers on the fly without resetting defaults.

After using LPP, I realized I had no want to even use ADW anymore. I set LPP as my default and removed ADW from my phone with adb commands. I think it has improved the speed of LPP even more. Couldn't be happier.

is there a way to replace the launcher in CM7 before flashing? I decompress the zip and see ADWlauncher.apk...I assume I can rename the ADWlauncher EX apk and just swap it out and it will install ADW EX instead of the normal ADW, but how about LPP? Can I rename it to ADWlauncher.apk and re-compress the zip and it will install LPP as the default and only launcher?
thanks,
Mike
Yeah you can.
I'm not sure if the rename is required though, although I do it myself just to be on the safe side (too lazy to correct the file, transfer to phone again, flash again in case it doesn't work Lol)

thank you. I'm still debating between adw ex and LPP. the main think keeping me from launcher pro is the app drawer. two things I don't like about it are:
the background is black as opposed to the clear background of ADW, and the fact that in ADW I can have a horizontal drawer, and in LP, all you can have are vertical drawers
I think I read another post on this recently and someone tried to replace before flashing and had trouble. My best advice would be to flash CM7 as usual then install the launcher of your choice, set it as default, then use adb commands to uninstall the original launcher. This way works for sure.
Sent from my CM 6.1.1 Liberty using XDA app
When drag and dropping to replace the file in the .zip, just make sure you choose to "Store" instead of "Compress" in the Compression Mode chooser. I've never had problems by replacing files.
I always remove adw and replace it with launcher pro before flashing a rom. I do this with several apps. There is no need to rename anything unless you don't remove adw from your phone beforehand either manually with adb or with a full data wipe. If your just flashing over the top of your existing rom then the reason you want to rename the .apk is so it will replace the currently installed apk, otherwise you'll end up with both installed.
The reason I do this us because I use DT a2sd and I don't want my launcher on the sd card so I put it in /system/app before flashing.

EDIT: I have the 8.9" version. I figured it would be the same on both... Guess not.
I have Nova launcher installed, and I installed a gallery app but every time I choose a wallpaper it crashes the app...
Is there a way to set a wallpaper from an image on the device?
Do you have the ICS Galllery apk installed? That is about the only one that works with mine. Also, wallpaper apps work with nova/apex/adw/go.

I do, it always crashes when it gets to the crop part :/
Probably should have specified that I have the 8.9" version.
I have the same problem on my 8.9.
Search the play store for an app called "kindle fire - wallpaper change" it works like a charm.
You will still need "ics gallery" to look for the wallpaper you want after launching kindle fire wallpaper Change. Just select do not crop.
Also don't use the stock photo app to select your images. For some reason they come out blurry if you select them with the stock app instead of the ics gallery.

Has any one gotten beautiful widgets working right? I'm rooted and have the play store and nova launcher working. But every time I try to place a widget it just says Beautiful Widgets has closed. Widgets from other apps work just fine.

On my rooted KFHD 7 (7.2.3) using the widget picker found on this forum and Go Launcher Tablet edition, the standard beautiful widgets FC; the HD edition of BF do work but they don't scale nice, the 4*2 clock seems to need at least 3 rows and the whole width of the tablet.

I'm having the same exact problem. Let us know if you get it figured out - I'm working on it now as well. Thanks!
No progress on my part. I tried moving the APK to /system/apps and changing the permissions, but that didn't help at all.

I couldn't get it working so I tried out HD widgets which works quite nicely instead. Only catch is its not compatible with this device on the Play Store. I had to sideload it.

Hey guys,
i dont now if this is the right thread to post it.
i just got my kindle fire 10.2.4 version. I didn't root it and installe the adw ex launcher. It works perfect until i try to set up widgets. After i press "widgets" simply nothing happens. I tried the AppWidgetPicker apk. then i can see all my widgets. After i choose one it says "AppWidgetPicker" closed and nothing happens.
I read that is becaus you have to copy the widgetpicker apk to system->apps. If i try that, it says "copied" but if i look in the folder afterwards the apk. is not there. Is there any other solution? I just want the widgets on my adw screen.
Thank you!
You have to be rooted to put files in system/app/ folder.

hello,
i am looking for a new launcher in replacement for the nook home. I have rooted stock and currently im using Zeam Launcher. I want a "somewhat ics resembling" type launcher. I used to have Apex Launcher but it lagged my nook down. I tried using trebutcher but I cannot place widgets for some reason.
Thank you

I've had good success with Nova Prime. Using paid version but free should work well. Works well on stock root and CM10.
+1. Only thing you might want is function assigned to long-press home, that isn't available with Nova...

I was wondering why my launcher was lagging at default settings. Well, I never could solve that, but I did check out Nova Prime. The lag is now gone. Thanks! :good:
Anyone know if you can make the middle (2nd) homepage with the apps on etc. a bit smaller than the default big ones on a 4x4 display.. My previous phone;s Galaxy S2 and Nexus all had a 5x4 display for the app icons and i really don't like the massive gaps between all the app icons.
Can't see anything in the options to do this...
Is it possible?
Thanks
no replies????
You will need to use a 3rd party launcher like Apex or Nova for that. Not possible on the stock launcher.
4x5 is option in Stock...

Cant use anything that involves rooting the phone as I use banking apps and they do not work when a phone is rooted.

I use UK Banks. LloydsTSB and Barclays banking apps and Barclays PingIT. I have only had my HTC for 4 days... dont know anything about rooting it yet.. Had a Gnex before and when i rooted that, none of the banking apps would work as they could see it had been rooted and considered it a security problem
Have Nova now and it is good, just a shame i lose the direct screen rotate widget/icon that the HTC One comes with but Nova does not recognise.. found that pretty useful and i find screen rotation very annoying when i dont want it to rotate but it does and it is at a slight angle!!
I guess UK Banks are more secure good thing. I use multiple banking apps to pay bills transfer funds, etc. never had any security issues. As for rooting, its a whole new world for your phone. Most important thing is to read, read. And read the developers instructions before attempting to root. You could brick your phone if your not careful. Glad you found Nova useful. Good luck if you decide to root your ONE. Remember read!!!!
