This worked twice for me (only 2 times I had to do this): Go to recovery, do a nandroid backup & restore the same..
This worked once today (was at work & dont wanted to take nandroid & then restore..so tried this method): Go to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik & reboot..
One of these may work for you..try it..may not a solution, but really worth trying if u dont want to re-flash the rom, lose data etc.

May be he said no recovery or download mode in OP

USB Port broke and would not charge, Decided to flash stock firmware via mobile ODIN before battery eventually died so I could send for repair without them knowing what software was on it........But it died mid flash
after placing another fully charged battery into the phone it just wont boot at all, Completely lifeless.
Luckily my quick thinking made me take all the data and media off the phone before the battery ran out so im not too upset lol
I have warranty also, so i shall be sending it off after the weekend.
Current phone ??? Galaxy S3, so lifes not too bad

Good for you.

[Q] Bricked And JIG is not helping

HI,
I am from INDIA, few months back I got a Samsung Captivate , Till now i tried FIREFLY and CM7 ROMs . The first time flash i did it with ODIN i guess i did it with a wrong firmware ,So was stuck with AT&T screen boot loop issue. Searching the forums and found JIG may help and so made a JIG (as i can't get one here) . and recovered my phone and flashed stock and then FIREFLY and 2 weeks back i flashed CM7 for getting Gingerbread and not likeing the UI of the ROM tried to switch back to stock and then customize on my own.
So When i tried flashing Stock the installation was success the screen stuck few moments on AT&T logo and i thought it would go off, But as i was very eager to get my phone online again i pulled of the battery to restart manually (Which i dont think was nice idea ) Now the screen remains black even i use the JIG to get into download mode. But the phone heats UP when i plug it for charging on computer or directly to switch
HELP NEEDED as i am very addicted to this PHONE
I have the same issue. I was tryint to load Cognition and it just gets stuck on the ATT screen but I haven't tried a jig yet. I was wondering if I can replace the files on the phone with good files that aren't corrupted and see if it boots up because droid explorere can still pick up the phone and so does Odin but when I do a master reset nothing happens.
@rajasekhar - Have you tried: Removing all parts (battery, sim, sd) let it sit for a few min (my preference is around 10 min to insure no residual power is left in the system) then hold the jig in place and putting the battery back in? Keeping the jig in place, so that as soon as the device gets power it is immediately seeing the jig, before it can try any other processes.
A bit difficult to do with hand made jigs I know. If you still getting nothing then your in for the worst and the phone need a JTAG or service center visit.
Tho it sounds a little odd that it could boot up to seeing the AT&T logo, but does not respond to the jig. Might even be a hardware problem.
@i3oots - Since you say your still getting PC response your safe to try and reflash it or just pick something different altogether. Tho you might wanna let ODIN settle and just sit there doing nothing for a few min, w/o then w/ the phone plugged in. Or learn about Heimdall and go that route.
Would I be able to flash it even though it get's stuck on the ATT screen? It won't go into download mode. I'll look on the forums how to flash it too. I'm a newb at this which is why I bricked it but everyone has to start somewhere lol.

You have probably Hard Bricked your phone. A JIG will not work to recover the phone. If the phone has any life at all, then the JIG will work. Else, u hard bricked it...you should never remove the usb cable when flashing bootloaders or odin or anything!
the only solution is to get a JTAG which can recover hard bricks OR you can go to a warranty store (don't know about india) and make up a sob story and have them replace it..

Does your computer recognize the phone? If odin is open, does the box turn yellow when you connect your phone? Make sure you have the right drivers. I think cm7 and captivate drivers are different. Keep trying with the jig. Just because you can't see anything on the screen doesn't mean the phone is dead.

If your phone is booting up far enough to send out USB info for ODIN and other PC programs to see it, then your still in a workable condition. This also means you can still get into download mode, but since things arn't working properly it will be harder. Depending on which bootloaders your phone has will direct which methods you'll have to try out to get into download mode.
AFTER you've had a chance to look around the forum and self-educate on the different ways of getting into download mode. If your still having problems give us a lil more info of what you were running before the flash and to which version of Cog you were trying to flash.
Did anything worked for you, if not only a jtag can help you looks like u hard bricked the phone.
Hi guys
@DaNarki : Yea i tried that method to .
Thanx for ur suggestions guys .I really squeezed through xda for all possible ways of unbricking but no use. SO thought JTAG was the only option. But wanna know more about JTAG???????
Went for a samsung service centre they said they wont handle other country products of samsung. Just yesterday went to the local Cell phone Repair store , He said like he would try using a Ctool box they have for installin onto the rom directly. So i thought why not Give a shot to it ...
That store guy raised another question in me . Yesterday after giving it in the morning he said to call in the evening . I did so and he said the Phone is booting on the Ctool but it is sometimes throwing error . I dint get his intention in saying so . have to go to him today
bricked maybe not
I thought I was bricked also ...HARD BRICKED......no buttons no nothing ...tried odin on, phone plugged in, and hold down volume up and down and reinstall batt......nothing worked.......but this... it worked for me........ok first of all remember this will be a bit tricky because you will have to keep the volume keys pressed the whole time till you have download mode......should also have full batt......take out the sim and any flash cards you may have in the phone and the batt.....set the phone down and watch a couple hours of tv or try to brick your buddies phone so he can feel your pain...lol something.....ok now after your tv show has gone off turn on your computer and start up odin one click to stock.... put just the batt in the phone.....if your friend is still there you should try this with 100% batt.... use his phone to charge your batt.....any way put the batt in the phone....plug the usb cable into your computer......now for the tricky part .......press down the volume up and down now and do not let them go till the end of this and you should have download mode.......now plug in the usb to your phone IF YOU HAPPEN TO GET DL MODE HERE THEN GO AHEAD AND LET GO OF THE VOLUME BUTTONS AND FLASH YOUR PHONE ....if not... KEEP THE BUTTONS PRESSED.......now take the batt out of the phone.....keep them pressed......unplug your usb cable......keep them pressed.... restart odin...... keep them pressed....plug your usb cable back in.......keep them pressed... re-install the batt.....you should get download mode.......remember you have to keep them pressed... JUST... the volume up and down pressed through the whole process nothing else....This worked for me and I was dead bricked no nothing from any of the keys no nothing..... I DIDNT INVENT THIS METHOD I READ IT ON HERE SOMEWHERE AND CANT FIND IT AGAIN......It did work for me when nothing else did.....so if the person that posted it reads this THANK YOU...... ................................................. I hate to say this but I may have got the last two instructions backward you may have to put the batt in before plugging in the usb cable.......Like I said I cant find the original post

If you just wanna know a bit about the process ask this guy. He is pretty much the only person in the US (I know not all to useful to a person in India) that does JTAG for the cappy.
I can tell you this much, it requires a special device called a Riff box and it sends boot info directly to the chip on the main/mother board that is used for the booting process.
Somewhere I've seen a site that listed info of ppl around the world that will JTAG, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Hope it helps I wish I could find the original post again to thank the guy that told me how to do it. I had sent that phone back to att and the promptly sent it back and told me the water dammage sticker in the bat compartment was missing and they wanted to charge me 409 bucks for the phone ....long story short it was there when I sent it and I told them to go pound sand up their ass because I wasnt paying them that much and ended up paying 125 bucks for a paper weight. So that is when I decided to have it jtaged but figured I would give it one more shot before mailing it off. My Galaxy Note Is DEAD!!

Hi everybody, I searched everywhere for a solution but no luck
i love my note so much that if i couldnt fix it i think im gonna kill myself.
let me tell you the whole story, maybe you can revive my note again.
im a daily rom flasher, sometimes even 2 or 3 roms a day,
i wanted to flash ics stunner rom so i went into cwm recovery, flashed the zip file and wanted to format data\factory reset, but while the phone was formatting i accidently pressed the power button, the phone was stuck and didn't complete formatting, i took the battery out, put it back in and powered the phone, it was stuck at the bootscreen GTn7000 Galaxy Note.
I got into download mode and flashed a stock rom, but it was the same.
i downloaded and flashed other stock roms but it was stuck at the bootscreen.
then i wanted to flash a stock rom that came with a Pit file, i did everythig correctly, and Odin was stuck at the partition thing, for more than 15 minutes.
i unpluged the phone i pressed the power button, NOTHING!!
i officially bricked my phone which i worked so hard for months to get it.
i tried everything, even the jig thing, i couldn't buy so i had to make one.
maybe i did somethig wrong with the jig or maybe because i didnt solder it or the usb plug im using isnt working.
this may be relevant, i pluged the usb OTG in the phone and in the OTG was a bluetooth peice for computers, the piece had a light, and the light was ON.
Another thing that if i leave the battery in the phone for a while, the camera area in the back gets a little hot, my phone always did that meaning its still alive.
i may have written too much, forgive me but im really desperate.
Thanks in advance.
You probably end up going to Samsung. Pay €200 and get a new motherboard.

Ok to the problem now.Since you say it gets hot,it might be still alive.Remove the battery and insert it after 10 secs and insert the jig and after few secs press vol up button. Now connect the phone to computer and see if its detected if it does try flashing abyy's kernel.I dont know which kernel for sure.Somebody might help you.People were able to get into DL mode when there screen were not showing anything.
There are situations when your phone is working, but your screen is black.
Let's hope yours is one of those...Try this:
1. Don't flash Abyss. Download a stock GB Rom instead.
2. Charge your phone for a couple of hours. You need your battery for the
following steps.
3. After charging, take out your battery and wait 1 minute
4. Put it back in
5. Boot into Download mode (Volume Down+Home+Power) (you will see only black screen)
6. Count to 10
7. Press Volume Up
8. Count to 10
9. Start your PC Odin
10. Connect your phone to PC
11. Wait untill PC installs the necessary drivers
12. If all goes well, your PC Odin will flash the yellow light with COM info in it
13. Flash your stock GB Rom
If this doesn't work, you'll need to think of the ways of getting your phone JTagged or where to get a new motherboard.
Dude, if you have no way of repairing a bricked phone in your country then stay away from flashing custom ROMs!!!

Your phone is pretty much dead I'm afraid
Why didn't you bother to read stickies first?
It has been known for several weeks now that doing a wipe from CWM in a leaked recovery (I.e all ICS ROMs except cm9 official) will lead to a corrupted emmc drive ,thus a dead phone
And no ,you pressing the power button had nothing to do with it being stuck
The moment you hit wipe from ICS stunner's recovery your phone was dommed.
Anyway what's done is done ,now find an unofficial repair shop and replace your motherboard.
I hope this makes it clear ,and good luck to you.

OK, how much will it cost me ?
by the way i forgot to mention that before i bricked the note, it had a charging problem, saying voltage too high, charging stopped, and when the phone is turned off the battery icon keeps appearing and disapearing, could it be that the jig is not working because of that??
Try a different USB cable?

You're not going to like this: I had to send my phone back to Samsung to get that fixed. Basically the charging port was shorting out, happens when stuff gets inside it (dirt, moisture, etc, from what I read). You could try cleaning it, but for me the port didn't break, it just acted like it was charging when there was nothing plugged in. So the JIG will work if it's supposed to.

Just out of curiosity: Are you in the US and had to send your international Note somewhere? I am wondering how one can get a support for an International Note if you're in the US.
I don't mind sending it to another country, but which Samsung center will accept it?

I am wondering the same thing, mine got bricked about a week ago and I don't really know what to do with it

Did I birck my Note trying to flask Paranoid Android ?

Ok....you have heard this many times before but Ill ask anyways in the event someone can help me.
I am a newbie to rooting although Ive had my Note for months.
This morning I rooted successfully .
I also dloaded clockwork mod and watched YouTube tutorials on it.
Then I thought id try flashing a new ROM and Paranoid Android looked the easiest. Just two files - the zip and the fix. So i downloaded them to my CD card and then booted from RomManager into recovery mode.
Here is where I truly stuffed am I am guessing.
First I went into the immediately available option of 'instal file form SD card" and tried loading both Paranoid Android rom files .
I got Signature not verified etc
So then I went a step further and went into the clockwork mod folder instead ( where all font is blue and it becomes a touch screen menu ) and both files were there also so I hit the Paranoid Android zip file and it seemed to be actually doing something so i thought you beauty ! Some white lines of text came out, it stalled for a few minutes and then the phone just turned off and that's the way it is. DOINK.
I cannot turn it on.
I cannot boot into recovery mode.
My pc doesn't recognize it as a drive.
Kies wont recognize it.
so I have two questions ;
A) Is it resuable ?
b) Of I cant do it will Samsung service center be able to re-load the OS or whatever or is the unit well and truly fried ?
thanks
You obviously did not read the OP since procedure is clearly explained. What you did is just nonesense.
Does download mode works?

To the OP:
Did you flash Parnoid Android rom over an ICS rom, that's what I did and my Note was hardbricked. I got my Note back yesterday from the repair centre, its easy to forget to remember to read the instructions sometimes and it can happen, not to worry though...its not the end of the world, the repair centre is an option

you dont provide enough info..mainly exactly what rom and kernel you were on when you tried to flash Paranoid.
Maybe he should start writing in the correct forum (Q&A) and even better: read there first and find a lot of related threads and exact informations.
Take seals advice. He's an expert now lol. Btw glad to see you got your phone back! Get that rom going!

You guys are going to keep teasing me about my bad rom aren't you's?
Btw...I didn't brick my phone due to my rom, I bricked my phone because I flashed a CM9 rom over a ICS rom (my rom was based on a ICS rom).
Can you get into download mode?
Service Center here you go!

I flashed from the recent android 4.0.3. Asian version ( I am in Cambodia ) . I believe the mistake i possibly made was going in to CWM files in recovery mode and doing it from there ?
Anyways....its back with Samsung RC now so hopefully they can rectify back to normal . I hope they dont see all the root files etc in the SD card. This is Cambodia so I doubt they'll care.
They'll be fixing the screen i cracked a few weeks ago too. Dropped it and it chatter like a bullet hole. So....my note will be all minty when i get it back....albeit $180 later !!

You cannot flash PA over ANY ICS rom. This is what caused your brick.

Yes, i came from cambodia too, actually for that price over there it's quite expensive.
any way, good to know that some one from cambodia is using Galaxy Note, impressive!
EVERYONE is using the Note here. Especially the girls. They love it even though they can barely hang on to it
$180 is for the Screen only. I believe ill get the OS redone for free.

Yeah you really suck at following instructions since you didn't do anything correctly.
You saying it does not turn on is indeed unclear, since you mention right after "it does not enter into recovery mode". So if you made the distinction., one can wonder...
So if you can't turn it on at all, including download mode, your phone is hard brick and needs to go to RMA, and since it is not due to emmc bug obviously, rma can be refused by Samsung because if they investigate they'll see that you flashed a different recovery.
Sorry dude, it's just about how lucky you are now...

Here is the rub.
Samsung rang me yesterday and said the phone needs;
New Screen at $150
New motherboard at $150
New front camera at $25.
Ouch
However....
Apart from the cracked screen (which happened weeks ago) up until I rooted and then ****ed the phone with my atrocious attempt at flashing the new ROM....the phone was working with no worries at all.
Can I ask the techs here as I have no idea ;
Would the motherboard be a victim of the flashing attempt ? If so....I am in the wrong and will pay all monies. I am guessing it is directly related as the phone was fine until the flashing attempt. If not......would the shock from the fall weeks ago have caused a failure in the MB ? Or could that just not be related at all ?
Basically, I am wondering if i have a leg to stand on with trying to claim warranty on the MB ....When they contacted me yesterday there was no mention of the phone having been rooted " you have been a naughty boy !! ". Actually what they said was " you dropped your phone and now the motherboard is broken "
thanks

since i don't have a spare battery i\ll just take it directly to the center but......will they refuse to fix it if they find out it was rooted ?
if there is no recovery or download mode.. then it will really be impossible to see if the phone was rooted or not

Your phone is bricked as you say. I too had the same problem like it won't even charge. The only way to fix it is to take it to a shop. Don't take it to any samsung customer care centre. They would say that can't be fixed. Take it to somewhere else. Don't worry, It could be fixed in maybe $26.
I got one advice for you, try to charge it for atleast 4 hours then try to go in download mode if thats possible, no problem you can just reflash it with ODIN. My original GTAB was bricked and i was upset because i was shure that it was hardbricked but than a year later i chared it for a night and i was able to put it in download mode.
