Hi there,
I don't know if this is possible, so the first part of this thread is a question. The second part is an idea, that only works if the answer is yes.
1. Is it possible to dismount the current camera in the Tattoo and replace it with a different camera?
2. If so, we should try to find a camera which has accessible drivers, a low price tag, autofocus and maybe even flash(which would require a bit of casemodding). That way we could have new ROMs with working cameras and the crappy original camera would be replaced. That way we could kill two birds with one stone.
We could find several possible candidates, have a poll in the forum and then add tutorials for new users, so they know where to get the camera and how to put it in the device.
What do you think? And more importantly - Would it even work?

Nah, near impossible.
Actually a nice idea but VERY difficult. Only a small number of users would be possible to actually mod there devices, if this is possible in the first place...

Lol you think nobody tried?
Anyway its a cool idea but its hard for a regular user to do something like that...
Maybe rather a USB connected camera. The built-in will not work, so when we need a camera, we pull this mini-camera out of our pocket and connect it to the USB-port.
Someone who want starting a new firm? It's gonna sell!!

It is interesting idea, but i don't believe a lot of people would spend money on tattoo - i'd rather buy a new android phone with better camera
Anyway, we now have almost fully workable camera, thanks to all developers!
Hello there,
I'm pretty new to all this and the P880 is my first Android device.
Does anyone here know if there is an app that allows you to take photos like the normal photo app but saves the raw data from the image sensor? I had such an app for my previous device, the Nokia N900 and really like to play around with raw images ...
many thanks in advance

I don't think this is possible. Just did a quick google:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4514862/android-impossible-to-obtain-raw-image-data-from-camera
Maybe you can ask the the CyanogenMod team if it's possible at all and somebody is interested to look into this... However it would need root then.

thanks for your reply domenukk. Too bad its not possible. These latest BSI sensors really offer much regarding dynamic range but the jpeg compressin makes it impossible to exploid it

Well most current phones feature a HDR mode, so at some point they seem to have access to the data. Probably just needs some hack...

I would love to have that Jelly bean cam app it's the best software to zoom in and out, most cam apps it's pain in the ass to zoom in and out.
wrong thread delete it pls
The only thing that I am regretting migrating to JB 4.1.2 on my SGSA is that the camera app no longer includes the "action shot panorama" photo style.
This was brilliant to use with my kids, so you could press once and let the camera take several photos, and stitch them together whilst at the same time focusing on an active subject.
I've trawled through the Play store to find an alternative (I'd happily pay!) but haven't found anything like it.
(If I was able to add a link to show you an example, it would include the dropboxDOTcom server over https followed by /s/23ynpqie9y2gjm0/2013-03-23%2014.44.03.jpg?v=0swn-
Has anyone found a replacement?
Cheers!
Matt

I even mailed some of the android camera app developers to see if they could add it to the list of things to do. It was a great little feature, and "it just worked"!
It's not the end of the world, but I would prefer to have it back!
(Congratulations on your 900th post )
Matt
Yeah... Although the stock 4.2 camera app has Photosphere - even that doesn't work on our phone... These two features are the things I'm missing the most .
But there are couple of good camera apps in Google Play.. Just search "panoramic camera" and you will get a bunch of results there... I haven't tried any - but most of them have many good reviews..
We can wait for Samsung's next update for our phone.... Since I think its included in Samsung's latest JB firmwares...

I've tried most of those panorama free adopts on the play store but they only do the nice landscape-type panoramas, not the cool action one.
Would it be possible to create a custom ROM with the gingerbread camera app in it instead of the jb one?

I have seen people porting JB 4.2 apps to JB 4.1 or JB/ICS apps to GB... But never from GB to JB
But I will try to do it anyway... If I get some free time from my exams

try "twin" apps
I am a developer of this feature (worked at Samsung at some point), and I can say it it is not easy to do
The most similar apps I saw are "Twin Me! Camera", or "Easy Twin Camera (Clone me)". Albeit they allow you only two copies and lack object tracking capabilities. But maybe someone will come up with this as well.

It was a truly awesome feature, you should be really proud of being part of that one. Just really odd that it was dropped completely when the cameras were perfectly capable of doing it. And doubly so that it can't just be ported straight across from GB.
I don't think it was particularly well named in the camera app, so I doubt too many people realised what it actually did.
I still think about dropping back to GB to get that functionality back!
Matt
Please do something about this get this app or option back in phones, point and shots, high end camaras, 360 camaras, all camaras. Do what you can , you helped make this, and it worked Awsome! I'm with the iniatial post , I am looking for this app . Try looking up devices with it , you cannot, it doesn't have a name other then it's named function. So frustrated . I would purchase a product simply because of this " mode" . ( I don't want to purchase a old camara phone model just to have it.. But I might!) thank you cheers . Great "mode"
Here it is camera 2.0 ported for 5.0.2... This took a lot of work, months of work to figure this out. Theoretically this should work on any 20.7 megapixel Xperia device running 5.0.2... Enjoy it... My Rom Is coming people... I've been very busy with school.

I'm using my phone... And are you sure this has been available for 5.0.2? I know it's been available for 5.1.1 Lollipop for some time now...Because I'm pretty sure as of a month ago (that's around the last time I searched this topic) it wasn't working on 5.0.2 because people were getting Force Close errors on all the Camera 2.0 ports.. A couple of the devs even said 5.0.2 was impossible with this... but if you know of a recent 5.0.2 port that I don't know about, let me know.. It's not that I doubt you, I'd just like to see it for myself since I sunk a lot of time into getting this to work for our Lollipop version...Thanks!

The Z3v is different from the rest of the Xperia line, and I've tried the port that was given out on the cross device board and it really does no one any good when you can't even open the camera anymore.

telling a devloper to use the search button... you should know what your talking about before you post.
This is the only way to get camera 2.0 on the z3v. Or use the other ports and watch your camera not work anymore and force close.

Where can I find a list of improvements that will be had specifically to the z3V over the original camera software?
Also, can you please tell us what is different than the other downloadable installation file that's floating around here? They have the same timestamp and are the same size. I'm not doubting, just trying to understand.
Mr. Bradley, please, for the love of God, don't lock this thread down too.

There are no list of improvements specific to our device model, this is just the updated Sony camera app(s) ported from the Z5 to work on our devices. I wasn't aware there was another flashable camera port for the Z3v floating around here... Please link me to it. I assure you, you have nothing to risk by flashing this and that I am the original developer of this port... No one else by my knowledge should be circulating this file around for the Z3V or 5.0.2 in general. I'm making a flashable zip as we speak to revert back to the orginal camera should you not like the Camera 2.0's interface... I'm also working on an updated version of this port that will provide some camera improvements. When I'm done with both zips they will be posted in the OP along with some cleanup and screenshots. Thank you for your questions, it's great to ask questions... that's how we learn.. And its always good to know as much as possible before flashing anything to our phones. Should you have any more questions feel free to ask and I hope you enjoy the MOD.
Nope, not the same. When Mega DLs I end up with two of everything. Previous download zips were moved to my card and is the z5 2.0 at 10.5mb.
Will try this later and look for differences.

Would you mind linking me to this other zip you're referring to? Thank you
EDIT: Nevermind I can tell by the size of the file you must be referring to one of the other Camera 2.0 ports here on XDA. You can try flashing those at your own risk if you'd like, but I'd kindly like to warn you ahead of time, those do not work on Lollipop 5.0.2... The reason my port is larger in file size is because the framework ported from 5.1.1 as well as permission files to run Camera 2.0 are included. It is worth noting however, you can flash any other Camera 2.0 port AFTER flashing mine and they'll work since mine installs the correct framework and permissions that are necessary.
Zach,
Thanks for putting this together. I've installed it on rooted 5.02 and it's running well. Note that a couple boots were required after TWRP install and the user will get an overheat if trying to use the camera immediately but after the phone acclimates it is just fine.
I had downloaded the z5 zip not understanding that the z3V was the only one not on the list. I actually almost installed it until I read that it could brick the phone.
The UI seems a bit fiddly but I guess each has it's learning curve. I took random dim indoor shots, including some macros, before and after in the sensors native 4:3 aspect ratio at 20.7MP usingthe original and your ported 2.0, but using Camera FV-5. I didn't tripod the phone or run any real range, just point & shoot of 28 shots all the same objects from the same spot.
So far I have not noticed a significant difference and when the photos are zoomed in on they show the same muddled look from what appears to be the same overcorrective software (I'm sure Sony didn't change that). I've read that the z5 camera hardware is identical to the z3V.
I'll put her on a tripod this weekend and do some real testing.
The original camera zip will make flipping back and forth easier for comparison testing.
Thanks for making this happen!
Thank you so very much for your time and effort to get this working for our device
So how many of us have actually installed this ROM? Is it worth ditching the setup we have right now? I mean I don't really know how this could provide better performance if Sony hasn't updated any soft for our phones camera. I could understand manual modes might provide greater ability to change fine settings, but point and shoot quality and overall use ability is was I am concerned about.
First off, it's not a ROM, it's technically just a mod. Secondly, Sony supposedly did update the software, and because the camera hardware in our z3V phones are identical to those of the z5 which was released with this updated software, it will do the same thing and be perfectly installable without having to port it. -And it is, on nearly every single z model but ours because the z3V is a Verizon Sony step child.
The UI is MOSTLY what's new and improved, but lower light shots do seem to be rendered better by the software. The ISO limits haven't changed and I doubt that Sony did something to alter their interpolation software, but something does seem different.
Until I can easily switch back and forth without having to flash to an entire restore that's 12Gb (in other words, simply flash back to the original camera as a zip), I'm not going to bother with tripod testing. Once I can do that, I will take shots with a tripod in varying light using the old and new camera zips and examine the shots and exif data. It could simply be that in manual mode the software defaults to better settings. I'm guessing that it's the default values values in lower light situations that have been changed, if anything.
At first I didn't like the user interface just because I wasn't used to it. But now I find I'm actually using it more than I used the old one (I normally use FV-5). It is a one handed, portrait friendly UI.
I highly recommend this mod. Simply make a backup and install it. You can always revert back to the old one via your backup or you could wait for zachariahpope to release the original as an installable zip.
I found I minor bug. The front camera wants to stay on manual. If you switch to superior auto, the camera closes.

Strange. Mine doesn't crash when switching to superior auto with the front camera.
Edit: It does if I try to switch while using the front camera. If I switch to Superior Auto for the rear camera and then switch to front camera it is fine.
Hi!
I am trying to understand how the S21 Ultra works.
I can tell which is the x3 camera on the back but the moment I install the moment lens on that camera, then it switches to using the main camera instead. My goal was to use the x3 telephoto with the moment lens for more focal length without using the x10 camera.
Would be nice also to have access to the 3x camera in pro mode.
Thanks for any insights on how all this works.
It's pretty dumb but there's a distance limit to the cameras as well. Meaning if the cameras (and I'm assuming it is the laser focus module) detects the subject you're trying to focus on is too close, it'll switch to a different camera. I'm assuming your lens is somewhat blocking that laser focus module. If you have the Snapdragon version, install GCam instead to use the 3x.

I get why they did it, an attempt to make it easier for novice users to treat all 4 cameras like one rather than having 4 different cameras. So things can just randomly switch back and forth depending on what they think is best. Problem is it doesn't always work well and with no options to override it, it ends up being a hindrance.
Check out my GCAM Thread, I would suggest Wichaya's build since it is the simplest to setup and actually works right from the start without even needing to configure anything. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gcam-for-snapdragon-s21-ultra.4253809/
