S5830 and S5830i uses different chipset...
5830 and 5830i/c/m have nothing in common...
5830 has qualcomn cpu and a saperate adreno 200 gpu..
while 5830i/c/m uses broadcom bcm21553 and bcm2763 gpu(for which drivers are still not available)...!!
may be that's the reason our phone doesn't support recording at 640*480 resolution even after 2.3.6 update !!

hi there. I flashed a custom rom from right after i bought the ace and it has 640x480. i don't if there is a hardware limitation, i would say it's probably the .apk file like SpaceCaker said. i'm not an expert though :angel:

R: s5830m camera issue
Install LG camera to record @30fps 640*480. I used to use this apk on froyo. I know you've got a 5830i but I think will work fine Leave a feedback when you got it.

I have a couple of questions :
What is the difference between Galaxy Ace 5830 and 5830M and 5830I ? and can i flash the same ROM to these phones ?
NB: im using Odin Multi downloader V. 4.38 and the ROM i have is JPKP9 (Said that is only for S5830)
Also another question :
I tried rebooting an S5830M into download mode but it wouldn't work using the button combination..and i also tried "adb reboot download" but the phone only rebooted any ideas ?

Does not work. Me and I guess also some other folks have tried that. But it's not a PC. These smartphones are embedded devices, so you cannot compare them only because of their CPU or GPU. and that makes it difficult to impossible to code or port something about these devices. Unlike Texas Instruments OMAP series, Qualcomm does not release any datasheets with more information about this specific CPU or chipset. So you have to rely on experienced DEVs to code some miracles
Does anyone know if it's possible to get the latest beta 9 of the ICS rom on this phone somehow?

ICS is not possible without GPU, ICS uses the GPU to show the image properly.
It might boot but will run on 2 frames per second max

I actually see that a lot of rom are ready for s5830, even cm10 is going to be complete.
So I was guessing, is it possible to port rom from s5830 to s5830i?
Have they yhe same processor, as asked in "how to port rom" guide?
The fact that hardware is pretty the same with some aspect should help us no?

The hardware isn't the same. The hardware with s5830i and s5360 is the same.
I don't think porting is possible. If it would we would already have ported cm9

it is a great buy considering the price.performance is gr8 in JB after changing kernel and cm is there, but problems are being sorted out(in alpha stage now) and no games lag with any of the custom kernels! (*samsung rom and kernel suck)
about O/C it has been done but not stable yet. i tested out the oc kernel....

I also have a sgsa but we have to accept the truth.
It has more ram and will support more official updates because it is released with jb 4.1.2 and for our sgsa sammy haven't released official update in all region.
But if you don't want to go for s3 mini and only want to know about sgsa than i will say sgsa is a superb phone. I haven't any complaint about my phone till now.

The price of sgsa has fallen by around 15% , so as a smartphone which is value for money sgsa still remains a good choice in the price range. and we will get JB official update in April.

It can have some problems, like I got a lot of dust under my camera, the front camera stopped working (hardware problem) and the screen glass is kinda sensitive on top, if you drop it shoulder high on cement or any hard surface it will crack. But all those problems are commonly on samsung phones, so it depends on how lucky you are with your phone

Lol yeah I felt like s3 mini looks really gay. And about S3...even I can afford it, I need a handheld that fits right in my hand. And that is SGSA. Need larger screen and then I'll just pickup my tablet.
