How to change looks of any rom? - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

Is there a way to change status bar icons and framework of roms easily? I am using Simplicity v3 and I tried to flash the ICS Theme patch of JellyBlast v3.0.4 Rom but I got boot loop. I love the looks of JellyBlast and performance of Simplicity. Please help me I have switched roms between JellyBlast and Simplicity more than 6 times. Is there a way to get the statusbar icons and framework of JellyBlast on Simplicity?

A big thanks! Your guide is awesome and you too!

I want to change Battery icon, WiFi icon, Network signal icon, Status bar looks, Phone.apk looks, Incoming call looks, Settings.apk background and Lockscreen icons. I couldn't find network signal icon and wifi icon in framework.apk but I found battery icon in it, I found wifi and network signal icon in systemui.apk, but battery icon was also there, so should I change the icons of battery both in framework-res.apk and systemui.apk? And where will I find png's of other things?

All icons are in framework-res.apk
You can extract the jelly blast framework and go to res/drawable_mdpi
As Jelly Blast had been ported from Galaxy Y

Would the system UI scale OK for hdpi devices? I looked in the zip and it was xhdpi but in op it says it should work for hdpi... was just wondering.

It should if it doesnt then system UI wont have theme everything else will. I only use it on HD2 192-240 dpi but think it should work with other AOKP builds. Thats why I am asking for people to try and let me know. I just hated the baby blue and thought maybe others felt the same.

I am on aosp not aokp but I am trying it anyways. Just about everything worked but the sysui. I'm adding them to sysui APk manually now to see if it scales right.
Thanks

ok system ui doesn't scale to hdpi devices just fyi. they work but are big. also the underscore bracket / line that goes under the text you are inputting whether it is in mms, etc is stretched out and doesn't look correct.
i was using the yellow/orange one btw.
thanks
thinking of making a yellow complete theme for hdpi aosp phone here shortly... for some reason yellow and black is appealing to me

I edited them all by hand in gimp. Took a while. Maybe I will get around doing them for system ui hdpi. The build/phone I use, uses xhdpi for system ui.
I was thinking Yellow was going to be my next one to do.
whipping up a yellow theme and just got done with the battery, what do you think?
Looks really nice. I didnt do battery in purple green or orange theme. Plan on going back and adding them later. I use the battery bar in ics myself.
Feel free to use my theme and modify the stuff inside all you want. Post your finished here too if ya like. I really do not like Baby Blue
Weird I just extracted out SystemUI\res\drawable-hdpi folder from latest build i use to gimp edit the png's .
Thats when I remembered there where none for me to edit. And thats only the SystemUI every other coloring I did was hdpi since thats what's in the rom I use.
So they should work for any HDPI device if they dont have systemUI colored then those png's need edited and added to theme.
If any of you have tried them on a different ROM or Device than I use please let me know how it worked and what your device is.
Also I only use the Gray theme so if something isnt right let me know what to remove and fix. And I will try and update it
Thanks

I dont use the Battery Icons.I really like the battery bar and its charging animation. So there really isnt that many png's that are blue in that hdpi folder. I will try and edit them and add to my current theme's this weekend
i am running AOKP Build (see link below) that was ported to our device (SGS-Epic-4G) so i flashed the most recent Mint version (from post #21) and the icons, dialer, contacts and a bit more are themed, but not the status bar... any reason you know of as to why? i had to mount system prior to flashing but after that i was nice... thanks man.

Thanks for the reply and for your support as well. I am sorry to confuse you, but even though you are correct that the thread I linked to in my original post was the MIUI ICS (V4) thread for our phone, I am not asking for your AOKP themes for MIUI ICS, but rather for the AOKP build I am running that happened to be posted in the MIUI ICS thread(?). XDA Member Alias8818 ported AOKP to our device (Samsung Galaxy S, Epic 4G, SPH-D700) and the link to the AOKP port was in the MIUI ICS thread, sorry.... Hopefully the links below will help sort it out, and I also included a link to my Dropbox folder that contains the SystemUI.apk you requested from our AOKP build, and I also included screen shots I took after flashing the most recent Gray theme to show what has been themed and what hasn't...
Here is a <LINK> to the SystemUI.apk (I uploaded it to my Dropbox account) I extracted from the AOKP build I'm on.
Here is a <LINK> to the specific post in the thread that contained the link to the AOKP build I'm on.
Here is a <LINK> to the Dev-Host Download page for the AOKP Build I am on (named "AOKP-MS4-CM9-Beta0.zip").

So I decompiled sysui using latest apktool and changed the color of my status bar clock and date and recompile successfully, put original signing keys back in using 7zip and flash it but sysui isn't working. Not force closing just no wallpaper or status bar. You ever come across this? I'm sure im doing something wrong.

We can change the Clock color in Tosti's ICS, inside Rom Control.
I don't mess with the APK's never decompiled or compiled one. I have been busy this week, I bought a 78 HD XLH, and then sold my car to fast lmao. Working on the old Hog, and its a Daily driver to and from work. It has rained every day since I sold my car lol.
I am going to refresh my theme's soon as I can when Tosti's next update comes out.

Touchwiz 5 icons, settings, changed statusbar (Zeus Theme)

A zip with zeus rom apks (settings, phone, clock, contacts, arcamera.etc) with changed icons plus settings menu icons and systemui.apk with modified stausbar, just replace to the system directory (not a flashable zip),here is the link:

Btw...the second file is a rar file
Messed up my lg ui though...but nice
Thanks for the screenshots,i really dont know many things about modding, all i did was take your mms, contacts, settings then changed the call picture to default lg but blue with the old one from previous version of zeus and then the flashable touchwiz theme from suppressed rom which i used at first and then changed to my personal liking only icons(anyone can copy their own framework and systemui apks in zip) but i wish i could make my own flashable zip to add apps etc and learn to modify framework and systemui then the next step is buildprop i think.also took icons from cm7 siii theme in this forum and from somewhere else i dont remember.
Renaming the DeskClock.apk to clock.apk in patch folder of the zip is gonna change the icon of lg alarm too ,i use alarmdroid.
ok...i installed the touchwiz theme as well. It feels pretty nice.

Reflash lg ui zip but before delete phone and contact also setting apks from zip so icons dont change then u should be fine.Update does not have the lg ui phone, contact, settings apk but zeus default, settings are worth trying but if u want the other one untouched dont replace them.
Thank you but am happy with the tw5 theme and your wonderful icons

I think that you need to deodex it before that change. Black one didn't work for me untill I deodex with Frapeti's files. And I think that we can't use that now, because there were some changes in new fw, and we will go back to previous with some things. So deodex it, or wait to someone do that.

In that case, maybe better wait for some custom ROM, and custom recovery. You do not want to end up with soft bricked phone, and to reflash JB again... My friendly advice.
Main thing is to change SystemUI.apk, and this one is for deodexed system. Stock is odexed.
And bobfrantic did this. He put mine SystemUI.apk in root.zip, like he said in that post, and he flashed it in recovery. And he renamed stock SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apkold, and SystemUI.odex to SystemUI.odexold.
P.S. And if you do not get anything - here it is in short. It is file that gives you black or transparent status bar. The one where clock, batery level, signal level are located. And it is for Jelly Bean, not for Gingerbread!

Just to correct you shut_down, I didn't put the systemui.apk in the root.zip. I only rooted my phone then used root explorer to put your transparent systemui.apk into the system/app after renaming the originals. it was easy but I wouldn't recommend this to a noob or unexperienced person for sure

[GUIDE]How to make status bar transparent

You need to have these things first :
1- Root
2- Deodexed ROM
3- PC (with JAVA installed)
4- Any apk decompiler (apktool, apk-multitool, etc..)
How to :-
1- Copy SystemUI.apk from /system/app/ to your sd card via any root browser.
2- transfer SystemUI.apk to your computer.
3- Decompile SystemUI.apk.
4- Open res\layout\status_bar.xml
5- There you will see a value like android:background=FF000000
6- To make it translucent type 5F000000 instead of FF000000 or to make it full transparent type 000000
Enjoy and if any questions plz ask here.. .

Ok, this guide needs to be elaborated...
I did the same, and following was output:
1. Even while changing background to 5f000000, background became full transparent.
2. Whenever i open an app, status bar becomes black again(opaque)
3. During media scanning also status bar looses transparency!
This means status bar is only transparent when on homescreen!
I'm attaching images which i tried on jelly blast rom and also the modded systemui.apk (of Jelly Blast rom) if anyone wants to try. Just rename the file to systemui.apk and put in system/app, change permissions and reboot. you will face lots of force close messages but don't worry after reboot it'll be fine!:good:

bro you don't have to edit drawer.xml but statusbar.xml -.-
And this guide is small and easy one for those who don't want to all the long fuss!
so you will get transparent status bar only when on homescreen or pulling the notification panel down
And I you want permanent transparency then you must search other guides or if they are not there then I will try to make it when I would get time
i think that I should mod the launcher so that it will have permanent trans. but I don't know how, if its ok with to make a tut it will be a big help for me

Open /SystemUI/res/values/drawables.xml with Notepad++ and edit this line to get transparency you need, for example, 100% transparent:
Code:
<item type="drawable" name="status_bar_background">#00000000</item>
#00000000 - 100% transparency
#3F000000 - 75% transparency
#7F000000 - 50% transparency
#BF000000 - 25% transparency

Hi
... i need anybody who can help me to make a flashable 25% transparent status bar for my S3 mini
All flashable.zip from enox. and Benz in this Thread run Perfect !!!! :good:
but i cant see Header icons and clock in Playstore, Whatsapp and more.
THX
Hello everybody,
since i'm unable to do this by my own because of the missing modding skills, i want to ask if someone of the more experienced devs could make me two statusbars, the first one with the clock and provider name in blue like the other icons and the second one with the clock in the middle of the screen and clock+provider in blue like the other icons. I use farias latest ROM which isn't deodexed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074514).
No one, hm ok...:crying:
Is it because i'm a noob?
