hi all. I have a problem on my sony ericsson xperia x8 running the original android 2.1 (rooted though).
basicly whats happening is when I tap the android market icon, the screen flashes white for a second and then goes back to the home screen, I cannot get onto the market at all.
tried uninstalling updates. clearing cache and data and still no joy.
any ideas?

do I really have to do that?
its a right ball ache putting everything back on the phone.
I know, but I think that is a problem from the installation of the google apps, the other option its going to Settings/ privacy and there should be options to restore/wipe the data of the phone, anyways you will need to do a backup of your numbers, messages, etc
if this doesnt work, you will need to reflash the stock software with PcCompanion
Anyways the last time that I had problems with the market app in stock, I just had to restore the fabric data of the phone in Settings/ privacy
Can't use market on 2.1 only 2.3 and up now so you must flash a ROM this is because they upgraded to play

I am on continuum v6 rc1 now but this problem has been persistent on serendipity and apex 7.1. I am on wifi and whenever I download an app from the market, it stays on the downloading bar and never downloads. I know that the connection is not the issue as I have been using it for other internet related things on the phone. I have flashed back to stock jf6 and master cleared before applying the latest continuum and the problem remains. I have also tried removing the market update, clearing cache, and rebooting. Nothing has fixed the issue, and upon rebooting, the apps that are attempting to download still appear in the notification tray without any success.
Please help...
Will they download on jf6?
did you g to settings>applications>manage applications>all>market>clear data?
also sometimes the market is just stubborn try one at a time and when it stalls like that click on it and select to download again. sometimes takes 3 or 4 tries before it acually downloads
I was able to download apps from the market on stock jf6. But now I am on cyanogenmod7 nightly 40 and I am still unable to download apps. This is very frustrating because I do not want to stay on jf6 just so I can use the market. What else should I try?

Sorry I forgot to tell you I already tried that.
Does anyone else have any suggestions. I feel like I've tried everything and still no luck.
This happened to me, sorry to tell you but.. you have to do a factory reset. Get titanium backup and backup everything important to you.
If you find sgs tools its an app trying putting this app on your phone by downloading it on a computer as an apk and put it on your sd card and install it then there is a spot that says run script find the market this will unistall market and reinstall it this could work

I tried both of your suggestion and neither worked. For a factory reset, I retrurned to stock and master cleared. While on atock the market was working. But now that I have flashed a gingerbread rom it does not work. I tried going into settings and doing a factory reset from the privacy screen. This simply earased the data on my sd leavng the apps on my phone. And the issue remains. I also tried using sgs tools to uninstall and reinstall the market and again no luck.
I know theres so many guide regarding rooting unrooting but all I can see is either only rooting but no unroot for a specific version like my W8. I know this request may sound awful but can you help me with the following
1. Root W8
2. Unroot W8
3. Unlock and relock bootloader of W8
I really need something to get back since my phone is just a 1/2 month old and still underwarranty. I need to restore its stock 2.1-update eclair firmware just in case something happens. My goal is to
Root, unlock bootloader, install CFW and an option to relock unroot and restore stock firmware. Thank you for the help in advance.
Im also planning to install gingerdx v017
and just in case I need to remove xrecovery or clockworkmod and restore to untouched W8
Whatever applies for the X8, applies for the W8 too. They are pretty much the same phones but with different colors. So follow those guides.

but is it still possible to comeback to untouched w8 just in case? I now rooted and made a backup of my stock firmware
If by "untouched" you mean as stock as possible, you can reinstall stock using SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service). It will remove every trace of rooting, Xrecovery and Custom ROMs.
thanks dude!By the way how does the stock app2sd on gingerdx works? or link2sd is better? does it mean every application is installed straight to mem card or phone memory first then move?
Ive only used apps2SD, you can specify where you want your apps to be installed in Cyanogenmod settings, but if you want to move apps between storages go to application > manage applications > find the one you want and you will se a button telling you where to move it.

I got it. I made a new partition 500mb as ext2 and I notice when I install apps theres no effect on phone memory it is still 207MB free. Is the partition two necessary? all I want is automated installation of apps to sd.
And last question I notice theres no google map?? wheres that
To tell you the truth, i have no idea how these partition stuff work!
When I want to transfer an app to SD, I do it by going to the app management menu
To automatically transfer apps to SD after installation, go to CyanogenMod settings, I think it's the second option you should tap, you will see a "default install location" menu.
You are using GDX right? DX has removed Maps to test battery life. Maps app has been proven to make the phone stay awake and thus consume battery, but you can get maps from the market if you still need it. If you can't find it there, search google for the apk.

I am using stock ICS, upgraded through KIES. But still i'm not able to install applications that have been downloaded as .apk. The install button in the installation screen doesn't seem to respond. But once i boot into recovery and wipe data, i get to install once and the problem is back again. Can anyone please help me out. is this common with ICS or am i the only one at stake ?
It's not common in ICS..
Anyways Be careful
Data wipe in ICS is not recommended...
It can be dangerous...
Do you know any reason why im not able to install applications?

Have you ubticked allow install from unknown sources in settings?
Are you sure the apk you are installing is compatible with ICS??
Maybe that are made for GB..
Obviously yes !!
Yea i had that install from unknown sources Checked. Not able to install any apps, the Install button remains dull. i had the same problem with AOSP ICS stunner also. And now the same with stock ICS.
I've got the exact same problem! ===and solved it ===
I'm on ICS stock, rooted and the install button does not respond.
Luckily i have an application (DX Toolbox) installed that allows me to install apk's. It uses a different interface.
Build in explorer, Root Explorer and ES File Explorer all use the main install screen with the 'defective' button.
I'm sorry to hear you've got this problem too, but also happy, cuz i honestly thought i was becoming retarded...
======Edit=======
I found out what app caused my troubles!
It was my screenfilter (got a yellowish screen tint, so it's always running). Once turned off everything worked as it should.
Pfff......was so close to getting retarded
Back in time. .
I rolled back to GB cuz i really got frustrated . Ll update and see if things get going better. And would you be kind enough to lemme know what screen filter you were using as i use ScreenFilter by haxor industry. and are you sure the app causes the problem ?

Ok, you need root for this & also a root explorer.
Open your file manager navigate to etc/init.d/ and if you see the file 01mvdalvik move it to /mnt/sdcard/ then clear the cache and data for Play and reboot into recovery. Wipe your dalvik and cache in recovery and then reboot.
You will have much less internal memory after this. The script you moved (if it is there) tells the OS to move the dalvik to the system partition instead of the user partition. This causes problems with Play sometimes.
hi had exact same problem I to frustrated again I just uninstalled brightness apk(lux) than onwards installation working fine that's weired and I use lux app for auto brightness see wheather u installed any auto brightness. uninstall and check it

Will Check It out.
Thanks guys for your replies. Currently downloading stock ICS. will Upgrade and check out the "installation process".
If you have screen filter running then you'll have to disable it. Somehow install button doesn't respond when its enabled while everything else works just fine.

I'm using 'filter your screen' app by Kovit. But this issue is caused by all kinds of apps that put some kind of layer on your screen. When i disable my filter i can install just fine, so I'm 100% sure this is the cause.
If you do a search for 'packet installer not working' you find similar threads. That's what i did after typing here
Hope it all works out for you, sorry you had to reinstall.

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but I also had this issue -- I was running screenadjuster because I also have a yellow tint on my Samsung Galaxy S3, and I couldn't install APKs until I disabled the screen filter. I will file a bug report with the author

It started with Market. Whenever I opened it, it would immediately go back to the homescreen. I did a factory reset, but it's still not working.
But that doesn't concern me that much. The problem is, Poweramp and ASTRO file manager started to do the same thing. What should I do now?
Thanks for your answers!

Do you have a custom ROM ??
If yes try updating it to the newest version.
If not...
Try using Flashtool to reinstall your OS, but remember to backup your personal stuff... ^^
Reflash the rom again..

I flashed the stock ROM, backed up the apps, and it didn't help it at all.
Its just a S/W issue.
Happened with me too once.
Just repair it with flashtools.
It might work.
(Maybe the problem is that you back up your apps)go to settings and find the apps that forse closing, clear cache and it will be fine maybe clearing data too would help but you will lose your data

With the New kernel, KERNEL][T] NK for Xperia™ T | 1.4.0 [20 NOV
I'm having a weird issue, after installing the zip I get it.to start up then about 30 sec later it reboots everything. I currently got doom kernel and android 4.1.2, the only thing that I can think of is that I have the 141 fw and not 145.
I tried the factory wipe n install and it works fine then, but when I try to restore the data backup I made I get back into the same issue. I wiped dalvik n all, it seems to not work when I restore my data.. Any ideas on what to do?
If there is anyway I can just get the sms messages restored and some way to batch install my apps I wouldn't mind.doing so (this kernel sounds great from reviews) but I can't figure it out as if now...
Thanks!!
Bump any ideas?
Is there a way to save my texts and restore them? (hopefully w/o downloadin some app from store that costs money.. )
also, a way to save my data files from the apps i have? I have several save points in games i want to keep
For some reason i cant access the date folder on my phone within Droidexplorer...
i have the data backup done in clockworkmod recovery, but like i said above, if i restore that my phone reboots about 30 sec after the home screen loads and the widgets are loading ( i can even open up some programs like texts, contacts, email, etc.. and they load up fine.. then the phone reboots.. weird issue! )
why don't you just reinstall doomkernel if that worked fine you....
